"So, apparently I struck a nerve." Rogers said and sighed. "I'm sorry."
"Why would you do that? What point are you trying to prove?" Kassidy asked.
"I honestly was just trying to see if you had any family around. I was trying to figure out why you are in your situation."
"Well, I don't. And I'm in my situation because its where I chose to be."
"Why would you choose to be homeless?" Rogers asked. "What happened to make you choose this?"
Kassidy just looked away.
"I'm done talking."
"I'm not." Rogers said. "What happened Kassidy?" Kassidy was silent, for once.
"Alright. Fine." Rogers said and stood up and pulled her out of the chair. "I'm going to take these off. Do not try to run." He warned and removed the hand cuffs. Kassidy flexed her wrists while Rogers lead her to a cell. Kassidy froze for a second as he opened the door.
"I could let you walk out that door tonight All you have to do is talk to me." He said Kassidy turned around to face him and narrowed her eyes stepping backwards into the cell.
"Fine. Be stubborn. Have fun in there." He smiled and closed the door and locked it.
Rogers sat messing with his computer trying anything to get it to work.
"She wipe your hard drive?" Weaver asked.
"Aye." Rogers sighed.
"Serves you right. I told you not to go digging." Weaver said and shrugged. Rogers glared at him.
"I'm a Detective. Its what I do. Why would anyone choose to be homeless?" He asked.
"Kassidy likes the freedom, She doesn't like small spaces, which is why she never stays in the same place for long."
"But her Family, they don't miss her?" Rogers asked.
Weaver sighed "That's a story for another day, perhaps one she can tell you if you stop treating her like a criminal."
"She stole my bloody laptop and destroyed it. I'm treating her like a criminal because shes a criminal."
There was a sudden loud scraping sound.
"What the devil was that?" Rogers asked and stood up and walked out of the office and towards the cells and sighed watching Kassidy move the cot to the other side of the cell.
"What are you doing?" He asked.
"I can't sleep. So.. I'm redecorating." She said and shrugged.
"Well, stop."
"What else am I supposed to do in here?" Kassidy asked.
"I don't know, maybe reflect on why you are in here to begin with? But do it quietly."
"I'm in here because you are a nosey son of a bitch." Kassidy said. "There I reflected." Kassidy smiled. "Aren't you supposed to feed me?"
Rogers rolled his eyes and walked to the vending machine and put some money in and punched a random button pulled out the bag of chips and walked back over to the cell. Kassidy reached through the bars on the door but Rogers held the chips away.
"What's the magic word?"
"You're really going to make me say it?" She asked. He gave her a look. She sighed and rolled her eyes
"Please?" She asked.
He handed her the chips. "There, now was that so hard?" He asked.
"It almost killed me." She muttered and paced back and forth in the cell eating her potato chips.
"When you letting me out of here?" She asked.
"Maybe a couple days. Maybe next week." He smiled. Kassidy glared at him.
"Ready to talk to me yet?"
"What? The key to me getting out of here, is to tell you really personal details about my life?" Kassidy asked.
"I'm sorry that I went digging into your past."
"Apology accepted." She said and shrugged.
"Just help me understand."
"You don't need to understand me Detective. Why can't you be like everyone else who just accepts that I am the way that I am and don't ask questions? Like Weaver, Roni.. and everyone else in the Heights."
"Because I'm not everyone else. I saw you on that rooftop. The real you, Not this act you put on for everyone else." Rogers said. Kassidy snorted
"Please."
"So be it. I'm getting back to work."
"So, go." Kassidy said. Rogers shot her a glare and then walked away from the cell.
The Next Day
Kassidy laid with her back on the cell floor and her legs kicked up on the cot. she groaned out of boredom.
"Well, look who actually got herself a room." One of the officers said standing in front of the cell. Kassidy looked over and blew a strand of hair out of her face.
"Luke." She said.
"Cole." He smirked. "Rogers is pretty proud of himself. You must have really pissed him off."
"I think pissed off is an understatement." Kassidy smiled. "I'm so bored."
"Well princess, its jail its not supposed to be fun." Luke chuckled. "What did you do?"
"I took his laptop and erased the hard drive. I may have also took his clothes while he was showering and hung his underwear up on his car antenna like a flag." She grinned.
He laughed. "I'm sick for the day and I miss that? Damn. Weaver gonna get you out of here?"
"No, he said I was on my own." Kassidy frowned. "But you could let me out. I know you have a key."
"I do. But no, because I remember when it was my ass out there trying to get you in here and this. This is great." He grinned.
She pouted and then grinned.
"Wanna do something fun?" She asked.
"I don't know. You and fun, always end up in trouble." Luke said.
"Is Rogers here yet?" She asked.
"Yeah. Hes in his office. Why?"
"You'd consider me a pretty good pick pocket yes?" Kassidy asked.
"Well, yeah."
"Think I could take his phone without him knowing?"
"No way. He'd catch you, and then he'd kill you." Luke said shaking his head.
"Wanna bet?" Kassidy smirked.
"What kind of bet?"
"If I can get his phone out of his pocket without him noticing. You let me out to watch tv when he goes to lunch." Kassidy suggested. Luke thought for a minute. "What's in it for me?"
"What do you want?" Kassidy asked. Luke grinned.
"If he catches you. and he will, I get to tack on another day to however long Rogers has you in here for."
"Fine." Kassidy said.
"How are you going to do it?"
Kassidy smirked and stretched. "Ready?" She asked.
"I think so?" He said. Kassidy took a deep breath and then dropped to the floor in fake convulsions.
"Oh. shit you're really going there." He laughed
"Go get him you idiot." She hissed.
"Hey! Someone Help!" Luke yelled, and of course being the good guy he is Rogers bolted out of his office and ran straight for the cell.
"What happened?"
"I don't know She just dropped!" Luke said in disbelief this was actually working so far. Rogers unlocked the cell door and flung it open crouching down to Kassidy.
"Cole??" He said. He seemed to be really worried which made Kassidy feel just a little bad In the middle of her false convulsions she snuck her hand around to his back pocket and slipped his phone out and tucked it into her jacket sleeve.
"Kassidy can you hear me?" Rogers asked.
"Of course I can hear you, idiot." Kassidy said and grinned. Rogers looked at her with a mix of disbelief, and anger.
"Are you fucking kidding me?" He asked.
"Well, yes actually." She laughed.
"Bloody hell I thought you were having a seizure!" He said and stood up. "Unbelievable!" he said and turned to Luke.
"She rope you into this?!" He demanded. Luke shook his head
"No sir." He lied. Rogers turned back to Kassidy.
"I really hope you like it in here." He said and walked out and slammed the door shut locking it marching back to his office. Kassidy grinned and waved his phone in her hand.
"He goes to lunch at 12. and I like Investigation Discovery network." She said.
Kassidy sat in the lounge with a few of the other officers watching the tv.
"Rogers is going to kill all of us, I hope you realize that Luke."
"God you should have seen it though. Priceless." Luke laughed. Kassidy had been playing with Rogers phone all afternoon taking selfies, and texting random people. How the hell he hadn't noticed it was missing by now was beyond her. Weaver walked into the lounge.
"What the hell is this?" He asked.
"Fuck. Is Rogers with you?" Kassidy asked.
"He's outside. You have three seconds. Run." He said. Kassidy bolted off the couch in the lounge and back to her cell. Weaver quickly locked the door.
"You pull that again, and I will not save your ass next time. Got it?" He asked. Kassidy nodded.
"Got it." She smirked. Rogers walked into the building and started looking all over the place.
"What are you doing?" Weaver asked.
"Looking for my bloody phone I can't find it anywhere." Rogers mumbled as Roni walked in the door with a bag of food.
"Roni. what are you doing here?" Rogers asked.
"Bringing you the Cheese fries you asked me to bring you." She said. Weaver glared at Kassidy she just smiled innocently.
"I didn't ask you to bring me cheese fries." Rogers said.
"Uh. Yeah. you did." Roni said pulling her phone out and showing him the text.
"Cole!" Rogers boomed.
"I should have known." Roni smirked. "I'm guessing you don't want these."
"Just set them down I'll bring you some money for them later."
"Spare her life and they are free." Roni said and walked out of the station. Rogers marched over to the cell.
"Phone. Give it to me." He said.
"I don't know what you are talking about." Kassidy said.
Rogers started unlocking the door and Kassidy was in no mood to get tackled.
"Okay Okay!" She said and handed his phone to him through the bars.
"I'm warning you Cole, anymore problems out of you and you won't see the sun for a long time."
"Well that's nothing new, its fucking Seattle. Its always raining." Kassidy smiled.
Weaver sighed.
"Just keep digging the grave Kassi." He muttered and walked away.
"Well. I gave you your phone. Can I ate least have my cheese fries?"
"Oh. These fries?" Rogers said and walked over and grabbed the to go box off the counter and walked back over to the cell and opened it and started eating them.
"That.. is just mean." Kassidy said and reached out of the cell. Rogers slapped her hand.
"Ow!" She yelped and pulled her hand back.
"These are good." He smiled.
"Okay well what am I going to eat?" She asked. He smiled. "Be right back." He said and walked off and returned with a sandwich wrapped in tinfoil. Kassidy opened the sandwich and scrunched up her face.
"Bologna?" She asked.
"Enjoy." Rogers smirked and walked away eating the cheese fries.
2 days later
"Get up Cole." Rogers said. Kassidy sat up blinking the sleep out of her eyes. Rogers unlocked the cell door and swung it open.
"Is this a trap?" She asked.
"No, you are free to go." Rogers said.
"This is a trap." Kassidy said. Rogers held out her backpack. Kassidy hesitantly stepped out of the cell and took her backpack.
"You are letting me go?" She asked.
"Well yeah, I would have let you go yesterday but you went and faked a seizure to steal my phone." He said. "Excellent performance by the way." He sighed.
"Yeah, well. I used to get seizures when I was younger so..." She said and shrugged.
"Did you just share a part of your life with me?" Rogers asked and faux sniffled. "I think we've bonded."
"Relax Detective. Its common knowledge. I had one last year and scared the piss out of Weaver." She said "Guess your Detective skills didn't pick that up when you snooped through my medical records."
He sighed and scratched behind his ear.
"I'm sorry." He said. "From now on, anything I need to know will come straight from the source. Deal?" He asked and extended his hand.
"Deal." She said and shook his hand.
"Right, well you can use the shower before you leave if you want."
"Yeah I think I will." She replied and walked back towards the showers.
She walked back out after showering in her spare change of clothes which was a striped tee shirt and a pair of shorts. Rogers walked her outside.
"I don't suppose this means truce?" He asked.
"Not a chance in hell. I gotta get you back for locking me in there for three days." She smirked.
"Fantastic." Rogers sighed.
"Oh come now Detective. You like it, just a little. I keep you busy."
"Well, there is that." He smiled.
"Oh yeah. Theres that." Kassidy laughed.
"See you around Cole?"
"Look forward to it Detective." She smiled before walking off.
