It was a little while later before Kassidy snuck back out of her room and crept to the fridge to get more pizza.
“You know, you don’t have to slink around. I know you are here.” Rogers said from the living room.
Yes but i’m avoiding you. Kassidy thought and sighed and grabbed a slice of cold pizza and walked back towards her room.
“Kass. Wait.” Rogers said.
“Not.. now.” Kassidy said softly and walked into the room and closed the door.
Way to go Rogers, she finally started to trust you and now you are back at square one. At least she is still here.
He sighed and stood up and walked to her door and tapped on it.
“Kass just talk to me for a second. Please.”
Kassidy opened the door and walked over to her window and sat down watching the snowfall outside while eating her pizza. Rogers stepped in and walked over and sat down in front of her.
“I’m really sorry.” He said.
“It was bound to come out sooner or later..” Kassidy said
“I know but I feel like I forced that answer out of you. I just wanted to help but I just made things worse.” Rogers sighed.
“No. not really.” Kassidy shrugged. “I forget, that not talking about it, not telling people..doesn’t mean that it never happened.”
“How..did it happen?” Rogers asked. Kassidy looked down and pulled at the frayed denim on the knee of her jeans.
“You don’t have to tell me if you aren’t ready.” Rogers said and reached out and put his hand on top of her shaking hand.
“No..it would probably help, maybe we can start to understand each other a little more.” Kassidy said and took a deep breath. “It was summer vacation. We were in the car. I don’t even remember where we were going. Probably disneyland or some shit. My parents always liked to go there even though Sam and I were teenagers and the giant rat creeped me out.” Kassidy said.
“Kassidy Cole is afraid of Mickey Mouse. Noted.” Rogers chuckled.
“I’m not afraid of Mickey Mouse smart ass. Just the costume at Disneyland.. The big head is just weird.” She shuddered. “I should probably mention, that Sam is my twin. Well.. was and all that mumbo jumbo about twins being best friends is bullshit because I never fought with someone so much in my damn life.” Kassidy sighed “We were in the backseat arguing, over something stupid like most teenagers. Dad was yelling at us to stop. Mom was yelling at him to stop yelling at us,  Me..and my mouth told him to fuck off, He took his eyes off the road and turned to yell at me.” Kassidy’s hands balled into fists and her eyes squeezed shut. “I don’t remember a lot after that, I remember it being loud and I remember a lot of pain and then it was dark and when I opened my eyes again.. I was upside down and I was stuck. The car was crushed and I could hear people trying to get me out. They kept saying there's one alive. One. and that's when I looked around me.” tears fell from Kassidy’s eyes. “There was blood. Everywhere. I was covered..but most of it was Sams.. I had to.. Push his body off of me. I was screaming for them to get me out but at the same time I didn’t want to leave them. I begged whatever God is out there to take me too. I was trapped in the car with my dead family for another hour before they were finally able to get me out.”
“Jesus..” Rogers sighed. Suddenly a lot of things about Kassidy made sense. Hating small spaces, not wanting to stay in one place very long being afraid that everyone was going to leave her because everyone she ever cared about, did leave her. Kassidy leaned over and opened the window needing to feel the cold air on her face to keep herself from panicking.
“Kassidy.. I’m so sorry.” Rogers said.
“Its my fault. I did this.” Kassidy cried.
“No it's not your fault. You couldn’t have known that was going to happen.” Rogers said.
“That's what everyone says, but he took his eyes off the road to yell at me. If I hadn’t been such an asshole kid..” Kassidy mumbled. Rogers put his hands on her shoulders
“Look at me.” He said Kassidy looked up at him with her grey eyes clouded over with tears. “It's not your fault. I know me saying it, isn’t going to fix it, hell, it probably won't even change your mind but I promise you, it's not your fault.”
Kassidy leaned in and pressed her forehead against his chest.
“I miss them so much.” She sobbed and just collapsed into tears against him. He held her quietly and let her cry.

The next few days around the house were quiet. Rogers worked from home, just to make sure Kassidy was okay and if he had to leave he made sure not to be gone too long, but after three days of near silence and looking at his own walls, he was getting a little restless and was willing to try anything to spark some sort of life back into Kassidy, it was a crazy idea. A silly idea, and not something he normally would have thought about, but it was something that was right up her alley. He stood back admiring the thick barrier of saran wrap in front of her door. Not half bad. He knocked on the wall.
“Kass! Breakfast is ready!” He yelled, thankfully he had made sure to at least cook the bacon before setting up the prank, if there was anything Kassidy loved more than mischief it was bacon. Kassidy pulled the door open and went to hurry out of the room and ran straight into the wall of Saran wrap and fell backwards onto her ass.
“Hah!” Rogers shout laughed.
“The.. hell?” Kassidy asked and reached out and slapped at the saran wrap. She narrowed her eyes at Rogers.
“Very funny Detective Amature hour.” She said and tore down the wall of saran wrap and put her hands on her hips giving him a sly smile.
“Hey. the look on your face was priceless.” Rogers said still chuckling.
“Oh. I’m sure.” She said and walked past him to the kitchen to get some bacon.
“However, I hope you do realize this means war.” She smirked.
What the hell had he just started?

“Cole!” Rogers boomed and pounded on her door. Kassidy opened the door and cracked up laughing.
“The fuck is this?” He asked gesturing to his now bright pink button up shirt.
“Oh. So I wasn’t supposed to slip something red into the whites?” Kassidy asked. Rogers rolled up his pant leg showing his bright pink sock.
“You are dead.” He said. “D E A D dead.”
“Its okay Detective, Tough guys were pink.” Kassidy smirked and walked back into her room.

Rogers set a plate of food in front of Kassidy later that night.
“Oo looks delicious!” Kassidy smiled. “So, How did everyone like your pink shirt?” She asked.
“Well, lets just say it was the hot topic at work today.” He said and narrowed his eyes at Kassidy. Kassidy smirked and took a bite of her food.
“Mm Pass me the salt?” She asked. Rogers handed her the salt. Kassidy went to sprinkle some onto her food and the lid came off and she ended up with a pile of salt in her food.
“You should probably watch your salt intake Cole, that much salt is really bad for you.” Rogers said his lips curved into a playful smirk.

Rogers hid the bottle of super glue after  putting it all over the handle of the fridge smirking to himself before walking over to the coffee pot to pour his morning cup of coffee. Kassidy walked out yawning.
“Morning detective.” She smiled.
“Morning, Want some coffee?” He asked and sipped at his coffee.
“Nah I’m good.” Kassidy said and glanced down trying to hide a smile.
“What's that smile for?” Rogers asked. Kassidy just smirked and walked to the fridge and opened it. Rogers went to put his cup down and realized it was stuck to his hand. The tricky little devil had beaten him to it!
“Bloody hell” He sighed. Kassidy laughed.
“You just thought I was done.” She said.
“Well, I may have a coffee cup stuck to my hand for the majority of the day, but at least I’m not stuck to the fridge all day. See you later Cole.” He smirked. Kassidy went to pull her hand off of the fridge handle but it was stuck.
“Rogers!” She yelled as he was walking out the door.

Rogers returned home later that evening and put his key in the lock but it wouldn’t fit.
“What the hell?” He muttered and tried every which way to get the key to fit but it wouldn’t go. He banged on the door.
“Kass! My key wont work unlock the door!” He shouted.
“What's the password?” Kassidy asked.
“Password? Its my bloody house let me in!” He yelled.
“It was your house and then you superglued me to the fridge and when I finally managed to tear my hand off of the fridge door I changed the locks. So. Now it's my house.” Kassidy laughed.
“Cole, Don’t make me kick my own door down.”
“I know you won't kick your door down.” Kassidy said. “Because then you’d need a new door and that would be stupid.”
“Kass its cold out here Let me in!”
“What's the password?” Kassidy asked again.
“I don’t know what the password is!”
“Fine. Fair enough. Spin around in a circle and say I’m a pretty princess.” Kassidy said and giggled.
“I will not!”
“Then you will not come in.” Kassidy mocked his accent.
“That was bloody terrible. Fine!”
Kassidy watched out the peephole as Rogers spun around in a circle
“I’m a pretty princess.” He said. “ Now Let me the fuck in!”
Kassidy laughed and unlocked the door. Rogers marched in and glared at her. Kassidy tossed him a new key so he could get in and out.

Kassidy blinked her eyes open the next morning and rolled over and shrieked at the tarantula that was sitting next to her head on her pillow. She rolled out of bed and hit the floor Rogers came running in.
“What is it?” He asked.
“SPIDER!” She screamed and pointed to her pillow. “Kill it! Kill it with fire!”  Rogers picked up the spider in his hand.
“But its cute.” He said
“You are insane.” Kassidy said and backed herself into the closet door trying to put as much space between her and the spider.
“Aw Kassidy, it likes you.” Rogers said and threw it at her. Kassidy screamed
“No No No!”
Rogers burst into laughter. “Do you honestly think I would bring  a real spider in here?? Its fake!” He said Kassidy looked down at the rubber spider beside her and then glared at him and wiped tears from her eyes.
“Oh my God are you crying? Are you actually crying?” Rogers asked still laughing.
“I hate spiders!” She yelled.
“Good to know.” Rogers laughed and walked out of the room.

It had been a few days and Kassidy hadn’t paid Rogers back for the fake spider so she had either given up, or was thinking of something incredibly devious.
“Wakey Wakey Detective.” Kassidy said in a sing song tone as she sat in the middle of his bed. Rogers opened his eyes.
“Kass what are you doing in here?” he asked and pulled the blanket up over his shirtless torso not wanting to be indecent, even though she had clearly seen much more than his chest hair before. He went to run his hands through his hair but realized that one of his hands was pinned above his head. He looked up and saw that Kassidy had handcuffed him to the bed.
“Hah Hah Kass. This isn’t funny.” He said.
“Oh its great. And now that you are handcuffed for the day, I think I am going to take a stroll outside.
“Kass if you want to leave, uncuff me and we can go out together It's the only rule I have, you don’t leave alone.”
Kassidy smiled. “I don’t follow rules detective.” She said and hopped off the bed and picked up his wallet.
“I’m going to go get some tacos. I will bring you some.” She grinned.
“Kassidy I am serious unlock these cuffs right now!” He said.
“Oh relax detective, you're a handsome man I’m sure it's not the first time you’ve been tied to a bed.” She smirked and walked out of the room.
“Kassidy!” Rogers shouted. “Don’t leave!” He heard the door open and close and it didn’t take long before the panic set it. If those men were to grab her again there wouldn’t be anything he could do about it. He couldn’t even reach his phone to call Roni or Weaver, or anyone to keep an eye on her.
“God Damn it Kass!” He growled to himself.

It was hours before he heard the door open and Kassidy strolled back in the room and smiled at him.
“You just gonna lay in bed all day detective?” She asked. He was quiet. She took his silence to mean he was done playing around and she took the keys out of her pocket and unlocked the handcuffs. He flexed his wrist and glared at her and stood up walking to his closet to put a tee shirt on.
“It was just a joke.” Kassidy said.
“I told you it wasn’t funny.” Rogers said and turned around. “The only thing I ask is that you don’t leave the house by yourself! If those men tried to kidnap you again I wouldn’t have been able to do anything to help you Kassidy. I couldn’t even reach my phone to call Weaver, or Roni and you were gone for hours. I was so fucking worried about you!” He yelled. Kassidy wasn’t used to this. No one had really shown her this much concern in years. Yeah Roni was overbearing sometimes, but Rogers looked genuinely upset and scared.
“I’m okay.” Kassidy said and looked away from his eyes.
“I can see that, but for the hours you were gone, The only thing I could think about was someone had taken you and you were being hurt and there wasn’t a goddamn thing I could do!”
Kassidy approached him hesitantly and awkwardly put her arms around him in a hug she pressed the side of her head to his chest, his heartbeat was going wild. He was truly scared.
“I’m sorry.” She said. The hug caught Rogers completely off guard. Kassidy had never really shown him this kind of affection and when she touched him it made his skin tingle. He wrapped his arms around her and sighed as her body seemed to melt into his and she wasn’t letting go.
“Its okay. Its..just you went too far this time.” He said. “Truce?” He asked.
“Truce.” She agreed.
