Shattered Illusions
Olivia was desperately trying to free herself from the assailant's grip, which pressed the pillow over her face with all their strength. But the grip was so strong that every attempt she made failed within seconds.
As a result, Olivia struggled anxiously for air, much like a fish gasping on land. One thought flashed through her mind: Was this the end of her life?
At that moment, her parents faces appeared in her panicked mind, especially the promise she had made to her mother before coming to prison. Surprisingly, the invisible yet indescribable bond between mother and daughter filled her with an unpredictable strength, helping her push the assailant off her body.
A desperate scream for her life escaped her mouth as she opened her eyes and sat up on the mattress, gasping for air. She panted, her mouth and eyes wide open, struggling to take in heavy breaths. Her entire body trembled with fear, drenched in sweat, especially her face. In that moment, it seemed she had forgotten about her assailant while filling her almost empty lungs.
After a couple of minutes, when she came back to her senses, she saw the other three prisoners looking at her with shocked expressions. Their stunned faces made her furrow her brows in confusion as she tried to recall what had happened just a few minutes ago.
At that moment, Nora entered the cell and asked Olivia in a worried voice, laced with anxiety for her safety, "What happened here?" Concern etched on her face for the newly declared killer.
Olivia couldn't find the words to reply to her question, as she felt more confused and curious about her own situation than Nora did. She licked her trembling lips several times, taking uneven breaths as she looked down at her mattress, her eyes darting across its surface in search of answers.
Seeing Olivia's state, Nora quickly ran to the sink and returned with a glass of water. She then bent down to sit on the mattress, holding the glass out to Olivia. "First, drink this water. You'll feel better," she said.
Without saying a word, Olivia took the glass and drank the water in one gulp, causing her to choke. She began to cough, spilling water from her mouth. Drops of water trickled down from her chin to her neck and onto her clothes. Nora started to rub her back to calm her down.
"If she has nightmares every night and keeps screaming like this, I won't keep the deal between us anymore, because I don't spare anyone who disrupts my precious sleep." Nubia, the shot caller of the Nubians gang in Abyss Hill prison and one of Olivia's roommates, declared in a serious voice, glaring at the newly convicted murderer and breaking the silence of the cell. The other two inmates also shot their new roommate blazing glares of anger mixed with irritation.
"So, it was just a nightmare," Olivia thought, letting out a deep sigh of relief.
"If any of you tries to break the deal, I won't hesitate to break every bone in your body by joining the other team," Nora hissed through clenched teeth, her tone laced with fury.
Upon hearing the threat, Nubia rolled her eyes in mockery. One of the prisoners was about to speak, but she quickly stopped when Nubia signaled her to remain silent by shaking her head.
"Come with me," Nora said to Olivia, and she obeyed. They both exited the prison, and the guard locked the cell behind them.
"What the fuck! Now we have to endure the unwanted drama of a spoiled child of our enemies even during our sleeping hours, all because of that fucking deal?" One of the prisoners said, irritation evident on her face as she fixed her gaze on their leader for an answer.
"Calm down, Zel. We can take care of this kid anytime; in fact, it might be better to say she could die in her sleep from nightmares. But right now, our priority is to take down Abigail and seize control of her team as soon as possible. Otherwise, we risk losing our lives at their hands. Don't forget that Abigail's loyal dog already gave a bite to Olivia as a welcome gift." Nubia tried to convey the tense atmosphere of Abyss Hill prison to her loyalist.
"Queen is right, Hazel. I agree with her. I believe this is a golden opportunity for us to take down 'Abigail's Alliance' by killing her, with the help of the police officers, while keeping our deal. It will benefit us in many ways," said another follower of Nubia, smirking but keeping her voice low.
"Many benefits? How? Zoe, right now, I can only see one benefit," Hazel stated, her expression confused as she got up from her mattress and walked over to Zoe. She sat beside her on Zoe's mattress, eager to learn more in detail.
Zoe made eye contact with their shot caller, whom they used to call 'Queen Bee,' to seek permission to tell Hazel everything. After receiving a nod of approval from Nubia, she leaned closer to Hazel's right ear and whispered all the details, ensuring no one would overhear their conversation.
"First, if we succeed in killing Abigail, it will serve as an example to the prisoners. If any of our followers betray us by stabbing our Queen Bee in the back, they will lose their lives, even if they manage to gain their own followers. No one will dare to double-cross us for fear of losing their lives.
Second, we can easily live our lives without facing violence, as 'Abigail's Alliance' is the one that always initiates the fights to gain control of the 'Nubians.' For example, Fiona has already attacked Olivia to get revenge on her parents.
Third, many 'Nubians' will have the opportunity to be released from prison before their sentences are up due to their nonviolence and good relationships with others.
Fourth, we can eliminate some arrogant, ungrateful, and dangerous bitches before they have a chance to stab our Queen Bee in the back and bully any other 'Nubians.'
"Fifth, if we can protect Olivia, the maximum number of officers who admire her parents will help us in the future whenever we need assistance. Additionally, her parents will be grateful to us, and they may also become helpful in the future, as we don't know what lies ahead." Zoe stopped, leaned back to make eye contact with Hazel, and asked, winking at her, "Did you get my points, bestie?"
In response, Hazel wrapped her arms around Zoe's shoulders, giving her a tight hug, and replied, "Of course, Beasty."
"You bitch, how dare you call me Beasty instead of Bestie again?" Zoe exclaimed, starting to tickle Hazel on both sides. As a result, they both fell onto the mattress, tickling each other and laughing wholeheartedly, momentarily forgetting the implications of their interrupted sleep due to the newly declared murderer.
After witnessing the scene, Nubia shook her head in disbelief, thinking about how childish her followers could be. Sometimes, they forgot their true identity-that they were dangerous criminals who had not hesitated to kill their enemies in the past.

Meanwhile, at the City Nexus Hospital, commonly known as C.N. Hospital, two senior doctors rushed toward the operating theater with serious expressions and hurried steps. One of the doctors was putting on gloves, while the other was knotting a surgical cap on his head.
They entered the operating theater, and the door closed, activating the red light outside the O.T. room. Inside, the unconscious, bloodied body of Drake Wilson lay on the operating table. Blood flowed continuously from the back of his head, spreading onto the sheets.
Two male nursing assistants were busy changing his clothes so the doctors could operate on his injury as soon as possible to save him. At the same time, four female assistants were occupied setting up the medical equipment needed for the operation.
All of a sudden, one male nursing assistant found a crumpled piece of paper inside the patient's trouser pocket.
"Dr. Scott, I found this in his pocket." With that, he held up his right palm to show the page to everyone.
"Take it with you and submit it to Dr. Smith, quietly," Dr. Scott instructed in a low but serious voice, ensuring the nursing assistant understood the importance of the situation, especially regarding the page.
With a nod, he wrapped the page in a clean tissue and placed it inside his uniform pocket. Then, without wasting a second, he left the O.T. room to go to Dr. Smith.

In parallel, Dr. Smith was focused on tightening the hospital's security, knowing that the assailant might target Drake Wilson here. He was giving instructions to his special security guards, who were trained to handle any situation, especially if the assailant was armed.
At that moment, they heard the distinctive knocking sounds on his cabin door, which indicated an urgent emergency.
"Come in!" Dr. Smith exclaimed, a hint of nervousness in his voice due to the urgent knocking. He responded without hesitation, his heart racing as he grasped the seriousness of the situation.
The male nursing assistant entered and made eye contact with Dr. Smith, silently conveying that he needed privacy to disclose the news.
"I hope you all understand what you need to do," Dr. Smith said, his expression stern.
"Yes, Dr.!" his special security guards replied in unison before leaving the room.
"Dr. Smith, I found this in Mr. Drake Wilson's trouser pocket," he said with a tense expression, pulling out the tissue wrapped in his uniform pocket and handing it to Dr. Smith.
"Thank you!" Dr. Smith said as he received it.
"Dr., is there anything else I can do?" he asked, fixing his gaze on the doctor, waiting for his next order.
"Just be careful from now on. I'm afraid the assailant of DK might be someone we know; otherwise, it wouldn't have been possible for any hired attacker to breach the security of the Love-Nest and attempt to kill DK," Dr. Smith warned. He nodded in response and left.
Dr. Smith placed the tissue on the table to put on his gloves. Then, he unfolded the tissue and discovered a crumbling page, which made him furrow his brows in both confusion and curiosity.
"It looks like a torn page from a diary. What could be inside it that caused DK to be attacked in his house?" he mumbled to himself, feeling puzzled. Then he shook his head and opened the page to read it.
As Dr. Smith read each line of the torn page, his facial expressions began to change like the weather. His eyebrows furrowed in confusion, but as he continued reading, curiosity took over, and his eyes widened with every line he processed.
When he finished reading the torn page, he sat in the empty chair behind him, his face stunned and his breaths uneven and heavy, as it had all been unexpected.
After a couple of minutes of thinking, he could no longer hold back the tear that fell from his left eye as he imagined DK's pathetic situation after reading the lines on the page.
Then he whispered to himself in a sympathetic tone for DK, "What have you done in the name of revenge? You struck your own leg with your axe."
