Chapter two: A Pack's Vigilance

"Why are they at the beach? I knew making camp nearby was a bad idea," one of the elders sighed, shaking his head. "We should've moved further away."
"But the hunting grounds are so close by," another elder pointed out. "It would be easier for us to keep an eye on them."
Cedar and Talvi exchanged worried glances as they stood before the elders, relaying what they had heard. The elders listened intently, their expressions growing more grave with each word.

"What if they are hunters? What if they plan on hunting our pack?" One of the elders asked, her ears flattening in fear.
"We should send scouts to investigate," another elder suggested, his voice steady. "We need to know what's going on before we can take any action."
Cedar and Talvi nodded, relieved that their leaders were taking the threat seriously. As the elders discussed their plan of action, the pair felt a new sense of purpose and determination welling up inside them. They knew that they had to be prepared for anything, and they would do whatever it took to protect their pack.

"What are we going to do now? Talvi still has to check on Caspian," Cedar asked, worry creeping back into his voice. The other elders nodded in agreement, and one of them volunteered to stay behind and keep an eye on the pair's pup. As they set out once more, their hearts heavy with trepidation, Cedar and Talvi couldn't help but feel a new sense of responsibility weighing upon them. They had to make sure that the pup and all the other young wolves in the pack were kept safe from whatever danger lurked nearby.

"We have to check on him and Luna," Talvi replied, her voice shaking slightly. "They need us." The two wolves quickened their pace, their ears pricking for any signs of danger as they made their way back to the den. The air was thick with tension, and every rustle in the bushes or creak of a branch sent their hearts racing.

"stay sharp." Cedar whispered to Talvi, glancing at her worried expression. They continued to move swiftly through the forest, their senses heightened and alert. The closer they got to the den, the louder their hearts pounded in their chests. Finally, they spotted the familiar clearing where the den was hidden. They exchanged a relieved look before dashing the last few yards to the entrance.

They saw Jace's head sticking out of the den, his eyes widening in surprise as he spotted them. "Talvi! Cedar! Is everything alright?" He asked, his voice filled with concern. They exchanged glances, not quite sure how to answer. Before they could say anything, Jace didn't want to leave his mate and pup, and he was about to remove himself from the den.

"Where are you going?" Luna asks; she is cradling their pup in her arms. "You can't leave us alone." Jace looks torn between wanting to protect his family and his need to investigate what's going on. "I'm not leaving you; I'm just going to check something out. I'll be right back." He hesitates for a moment before turning back to Talvi and Cedar. "Be careful, okay?"

She nods her head slowly, her gaze flickering between Jace and Cedar. "Be careful," she repeats softly, her voice shaking just a little. "And come back to us soon," he nods, reassuring her with a gentle touch on her muzzle before turning back to Cedar. "Lead the way," he says, ready to follow his friend and mate into whatever danger may lie ahead.

"We heard music and human voices at the beach," Cedar began, his voice low and urgent. "We think there's a group of humans there, and they seem to be up to something. We don't know if they pose a threat to us, but we can't take the risk." Jace nodded, his expression grim.

"Dude, they are probably just camping," Jace says, trying to play it cool. "But yeah, we should at least check it out. If you stay here with Luna and the pup, I'll go with Cedar." He looks to Cedar for confirmation, but Cedar's expression tells him he doesn't want to leave his mate and pup behind.

Talvi's eyes darted back and forth between Jace and Cedar, her heart racing with fear and worry. "Are you sure it's safe for you to go alone?" she asked, her voice trembling. "What if something happens to you?" Cedar placed a comforting paw on her shoulder, reassuring her that he would be careful.

"We need to wait till Luna and the pup are a little older before we can leave them alone," Jace says, his voice firm. "I'm not risking them." Talvi looks at him gratefully, relief washing over her. "You two stay here. We'll go check it out and come back. If it's nothing, we'll just make sure to keep an eye on them from afar. Okay?" They nod, and Jace turns to Cedar. "Let's go."
