Case File #15

Two days later, Sharna woke up after a long sleep. It was 7 am, but she felt finally rested; she took a warm bath and prepared coffee and pancakes. Her phone was buzzing, journalists wanted to interview her, but she wanted a break from the case and everything, so shed decided to ignore it and keep hiding.

She laid on the couch in her robe eating breakfast and watching TV.

"Ahh, How I missed being lazy" she thought

She tried to not watch any news, but this was a big case especially in such a small town, so with every channel it followed her.  "If you're gonna use a picture of me, at least use a good one" she shouted at the screen.

Tom Arnold was giving interviews on almost every channel, he was as arrogant as ever, but he still mentioned everyone specifically Sharna and Matt which she was grateful for. Detective Howard held a press conference and Officer Caleb was there and gave a couple of interviews. Matt as well was interviewed from the hospital, but Sharna wasn't tempted to do any press.

After a few hours, her home telephone rang; she was surprised that it was even working, but answered anyways.

"Hey Detective" it was Emily

"Hey. We haven'y talked on a home line since high school" Sharna laughed

"I tried to call you a couple of times on your phone and when you didn't pick up, I figured you were ignoring. So what are you doing?"

"I slept a lot Em, and now I'm just relaxing"

"Here's my proposal, Ty is away this weekend, work trip thingy, so I suggest a girls' weekend. What do you think?"

"I'm definitely in."

"I'll be right there"

Sharna got dressed and sat waiting for Emily, she picked up her phone and decided to check it out. "Wow, 59 missed calls and 34 messages" Sharna was surprised.

She had a missed call from her mum and a message. "I'm so proud of you, love mum" she read out loud and decided to call her.

"Sharna" her mum answered happily

"I saw your message mum" she smiled "Thanks" Sharna and her mum had a rough relationship, they both loved each other and sometimes it was going good between them, but most times they weren't really in a good place especially whenever Sharna told her mum that her father's death was murder not suicide.

"It's true sweetheart, I'm so proud and I told all of my friends about it"

"I'm a real Detective now mum" she joked

"I've always knew you'd make it, you've always been so smart and observant even as a kid" she sighed and was silent for a moment "I didn't mean to discourage you when you insisted that your father was murdered, I just wanted to spare you the pain of disappointment"

"I know that now mum, but I still believe that he was and I'll prove it one day and punish those who took him away from us, I promise"

"Good luck"

After hanging up, Emily arrived and Sharna lead her inside. "Can we just have a lazy weekend?" Sharna suggested

"No, definitely not" Emily laughed "I have a plan"

"Yeah? And what's that?" She said sitting down on the couch "aw, it's so comfy" she said gesturing for Em to sit down.

"It is, but we have a spa appointment!" She was excited "I've been working so much lately on my laptop and my back hurts so bad, I really need a massage" she was jumping in her seat from enthusiasm and also trying to get Sharna in the mood. "We can also get mani-pedis or a facial or both"

"I'm just not feeling it Em, I just wanna be lazy like that Bruno Mars song"

"I'll drag you to the street if I have you" she said sarcastically "What's wrong with you Shar?"

"I'm fine"

"You should be ecstatic, you're famous now and just solved your third crime"

"I'm good Em, I just want sometime and.."

"You want to stay home and be upset, but I won't allow you, so get up and let's get out of here before you get sucked into that couch" Emily got up and started pulling Sharna.

"Okay" Sharna sighed

"You know what?" Emily smiled a little too much which seemed creepy for Sharna "You need a hairstyle"

"No, I'm good" she laughed, Sharna hated haircuts because her hair doesn't grow back easily.

"Coco Channel once said 'A girl who cuts het hair is about to change het life' so we're getting you a hairstyle; it'll make you feel great, trust me"

"I'm not gonna even try to refuse cause I know how stubborn you are"

"Good girl"

On their way, they met Wyatt who seemed in a hurry.

"Wyatt" they called him from the distance and he turned and walked to them.

"Hey it's Detective Sharna Davis!" He hugged her "Hey Em" he waved at her.

"Looking good" Sharna smirked at Wyatt raising an eyebrow "Anything special?"

"I have a coffee date" he smiled "and I'm pretty late actually"

"Go get her" Sharna encouraged him

"Talk later" he walked away

They reached the spa and got in one of those mineral pools for their skin.

"This is so fancy" Emily smiled as a waitress handed them each a glass of champaign.

Each of them went in for their individual massages. The masseuse kept telling Sharna to relax and that her muscles were really tense. She applied essential oils on her skin and kept massaging with het fingers and palms and Sharna was enjoying herself.

"How do you feel?" The woman asked

"Great. Never felt better" Sharna said

"Good" she smiled and pulled away then walked to a nearby sink and started washing her hands

"No, I don't want it to be over"

Sharna met up again with Emily and they went to another room for their facials.

"Ok you were right" Sharna said to Emily

"Just thank me and say that I'm awesome" she laughed

"Thanks Em"

"That still won't get you out of our haircut deal"

"Damn it" they both laughed

Two woman came in and applied their facials, Sharna and Emily laid their heads back and closed their eyes while the women worked on their mani/pedis.

"So Shar" Emily said carefully "How did it feel meeting Johnny again"

"Confusing" she sighed "I mean we're supposedly in a better place now.."

"But?"

"But part of me still have feelings that I don't wanna have anymore"

"He was your first like real love, of course you'll always have some feelings for him, buy it'll fade by time"

"I guess you're right"

"Honey, I'm always right" she laughed

"Stop being such a Tom Arnold"

"He's everywhere these days, it's just contagious" she joked

"There's something though that I haven't told you" Sharna then told her about what happened with Matt at the hospital.

"How do you feel then?"

"I don't know, I just feel not ready." She sighed

"Do you like him?" Emily said in a serious tone.

"I do like him as a friend, but I'm not sure how I feel like in a 'romantic' way. Plus Em he's really skinny and I'd look like a freaking bulldozer next to him"

"Hahaha" Emily laughed loudly "I'm sorry"

"I'm serious!"

"I know you are, but when you truly like someone you wouldn't care how they look"

After their treatment, they went to the hair salon. Emily convinced Sharna by continuously repeating Coco Channel's advice to shorten her hair and add some blond highlights to her chestnut hair.

"Just relax" the hair dresser said "You're in good hands"

"Why is there no mirror?" Sharna asked him

"Your friend said you wanted to relax and be surprised by the outcome"

"Ok?"

Sharna laid her head back, the hair dresser started washing it and it felt relaxing.

"I wanna use that time for a mind break, but how do I not think?" she thought "Do I just stop talking in here or should I just think of something relaxing? Let's think of a beach"

A couple of minutes later "I wanna eat shrimps." she thought "The beach made me hungry. Should I think of something else? Why is everything else now food related. Crap is my stomach making hungry growls"

Sharna told Emily to get her some magazines from the table instead and started reading them.

"Why is it taking so long" Sharna said to herself "I'm bored of these magazines I don't care about Celebs and horoscopes. Guess I'll just try to meditate again"

She tried to keep her mind silent and relax "How the hell do they shut their minds up"she thought

Sharna tried to ignore the amount of hair falling to the ground, she knew her mind would definitely exaggerate.

"You had a lot of dead ends in your hair, now it'll be smoother" the guy said reassuring her.

After some time, the hair dresser told her it was time to see the result he had a mirror in his hand. "Do you wanna see?"

"Where's Em?" she asked

"She's been outside talking for a while, do you want me to call her in?"

"No, it's okay, just show me"

He handed her the mirror, she held it in her right hand and looked.

"Oh my God!" the mirror slipped from her hands into the ground "What the hell, purple?" she got out of her seat and started screaming at him. "Why is my hair freaking purple?"

"It's what I was told?" his voice was shaky

"Who told you to do this?"

The girl next to her turned to them "It was actually my order, but it looks really cool"

"Just go back to whatever the hell you were doing" Sharna was out of control, she turned to the guy again "I want my hair back"

Emily came back in, she could hear Sharna's screams from outside.

"What's going..hahaha" she burst into laugher

"It's not a joke! Damn it, no one will take me seriously like that"

"You look cute though" Emily was trying to hide her laughter

"Yeah, cause I look like a freaking anime"

Emily's eyes were tearing from trying to hold her laughter.

"It'll fade away" the guy added and Sharna gave him an angry look.

Eventually, they were able to calm Sharna down and she decided to embrace her new temporary look.

Sharna took a cab home and decided to take a break from that girls weekend, she wasn't upset at Emily, but was shy about her hair cause she didn't like anything that would be too eye catching and kept picturing Detective Howard's reaction or worse Tom's.

She went up her building only to find Wyatt waiting outside.

"Wow" he said as he saw her.

"A girl who cut her hair is about to change her life" she tried to defend her look

"Remember when you wanted to paint your bedroom purple when we were kids"

"Yeah and mum refused so that would be a nice reminder" she laughed "I need to send her a picture though" she grabbed her keys out of her purse

"Don't give her a heart attack" he said sarcastically and Sharna looked down in doubt

"Is it really that bad?"

"It's just unexpected, but actually it looks pretty good"

"Thanks." She smiled "Anyways, how was your date?"

She opened the door and they went in.

"Do you want something to drink first or something to eat?" she added

"No, I'm good" he gestured for her to sit down.

"Okay? I'm a little worried"

"Don't be, it was a really good date, I've known that person for a while now and I think I really like them" he said hesitantly

"That's great I wanna meet her then"

"The thing is," he looked away shyly "it's not a her, it's a him"

"Oh, okay," she was silent for a moment "why were you afraid to tell me?"

"I don't know, I guess it's new for me to tell anyone" he shrugged his shoulders

"I sort of knew though, I mean you broke up with Em" she joked "Anyways, when do I get to meet him?"

"You already did" he smiled

"I knew it, it's Steve my High school boyfriend, isn't he" she said proudly "I knew he was gay"

"No, but he is though"

"Who is it then?" she insisted "You know I'm curious and I don't like these guessing games"

"Remember, the real estate guy who you this apartment, Nick?"

"He was cute" she joked and Wyatt started blushing, then she was quite for a minute before she realized "Oh my God, he's Detective Howards's son!"

"What?" it was news for him "I didn't know that"

Sharna didn't know what to say, she didn't want to seem unsupportive, but she didn't want any more Howard Young in her life.

"If you're happy, I'm happy them" she smiled at him

Wyatt left and Sharna changed into her PJs and made some green tea to drink then grabbed her phone and laid in her bed drinking.

She had a message form Emily.

"R u mad?" it said

"Definitely not it's weird, but I kind of like it now. My mum though thinks it's hilarious" she replied

Emily sent her another message "I still think it's cute. Shar, your college friend, Nicole, called me. She says you've been ditching her calls"

"Yes, I have" she replied coldly because she didn't like to talk about what happened with Nicole

She turned on the TV, the news channel was talking about the case and she smiled proudly "One step closer dad" she said to herself. Suddenly, the channel cut to a live scene at the lake separating them from their neighboring town; police men were there and the TV reported said "A car was found drowned at the lake, police are pulling it up and it seems there are people in there"

Sharna turned off the TV. "No Sharna" she said to herself "You need a break and you've got nothing to do with this" she sat thinking about it then got out of bed "Who am I kidding? I need to be there".
