Jeon Jungkook felt more restless as the days went by, counting down the hours, minutes, seconds on the dawn of the festival.
Soon, the Tomatina was but a day away, lingering so close the boy could practically taste the events.
No one knew what the excitement was in throwing tomatoes at each other, but Dios, the last Wednesday of every August had always been his favourite.
His usual Tomatina would consist of staying in the little town of Buñol, bringing a special girl of that year with him to remind him of the other forms of pleasure undertaking before the festival.
Then, the lining of millions and millions of tomatoes, which you pick up, squeeze, and at the count of speaker, you'd start hurling.
Most men use this golden opportunity to get extra handsy with significant others or just women they lust after, whether the poor ladies wanted it or not.
They only have a single hour until officials demand to stop, bringing out the huge water tanks carried by dozens of horses to be sprayed at the general public who participated.
It's all just good fun in the end. Jungkook And Jimin always kept that in mind, before sneaking away to another town and wilding away till the word 'sober' fades away in their existences.
Because Jungkook and Jimin were definitely not allowed to participate in such a barbaric event. No, they were aristocrats, men who made society and shall control it with a little self restraint.
It was just too bad that the boys did not care at all.
If only Jimin was coming this year, Jungkook thought sadly, laid peacefully on his hammock as his one booted foot swayed the stringy bed. It's been a dull three Tomatina-less years.
Yes, the poor boy, for his best friend's sake, didn't attend the festival after he left for Italy. Not only was it a little boring, but the thought of fucking around without him didn't settle well in him.
"Jungkook-ah!"
The boy sat up instantly over the voice, turning around to see his father, suited and booted as he carried an average sized suitcase in his hand.
"Don't mess around while I'm gone, chico," He guttered. "I'll be back in a few days after I finish the Tomatina."
Jungkook raised an eyebrow. "Sorry for being a bit blunt here, but you're not exactly a party animal. Why would you want to go?"
Sir Jeon scoffed gravely. "Alcohol consumers rise ten times as much in Buñol during the festival. If I see an opportunity, chico, I will take it."
"Don't have too much fun, Papa, or else everyone will know where I got my recklessness from."
"Cállate!"
Chuckling, the boy wished his father a good journey, internally hoping the driver would ram his carriage into a ditch so the old man could never come back.
Funny how he hadn't mentioned any money taken from his accounts.
Maybe he doesn't find you important enough to share his concern.
Agitation simmering, Jungkook turned his head towards the kitchen, head rested behind his hands.
"Mi amor, how much longer is it gonna take?!" He demanded, tapping his foot upon the pavement.
Aeri came rushing out, a baby in her hand, a plate filled with food in the other.
She gave him a dark look. "Say that one more time and I'll feed this to your dog."
Jungkook raised his head upwards. "Piccolo will die if he eats that."
Rocking Jihoo, she remarked, "Well maybe you should eat it, then."
He let out a breathy laugh, sitting up a little straighter, swaying the hammock still. "Spoon-feed me and I'll be happy to die."
"Dios mio, culo, you're insufferable!"
Jungkook's laughter radiated across the courtyard, Aeri's shoes tapping furiously back in the kitchen.
"Ay, I can vouch for that."
Stunned, Jungkook whirled his head to the gates, where an amused Kim Taehyung stood, hands in his ripped trouser pockets.
"Oh, Christo, what the fuck are you doing here?"
"Buenas tardes to you too, asshole," the peasant drawled, striding to him. "What's the smell?"
"Of you not taking a damn shower your entire life," said Jungkook, laying back in his hammock.
Aeri entered the courtyard again, the plate now more filled up from the last time, gently rocking the baby. "Here, bastardo. Happy now?"
She made to set the plate atop the little table beside the hammock when she set her eyes on the guest.
Jungkook's heart broke a little when her lips burst into a smile.
"Taehyung!" she exclaimed, putting the plate down and hurrying over to him.
Being careful of the baby, she flung an arm around him, pulling him close. "Where were you?"
"Ah, mi poco flor," he murmured, pressing a light kiss to her cheek, "I'm sorry, but I was a little occupied with this guy."
Why, that little shit-
"What am I, a child?" Jungkook retorted, heaving up from the hammock. "It was your fault for pressuring me into giving you the money."
"Which I'm thankful for," Taehyung countered, now turning to the baby that was perched in Aeri's arms.
His smile had Jihoo spluttering into a fit of giggles.
"Ah, Aeri, give me the boy," he said, grabbing hold of Jihoo and settling him against him.
A small part of Jungkook felt like punching him in the face. The only thing that began to calm him down was the thought that he was the one who put the little baby to sleep.
Not that stingy peasant who seemed so close to the probable 2 year old. So close to the one who birthed him too.
Stop it, Jungkook! You're overthinking this! Taehyung is definitely not the father.
Then why was it so hard to believe when he looked perfect in that family of three? Why wouldn't be hard to believe, when all Aeri sent him were genuine smiles and looks filled with love and appreciation?
"What?"
The boy turned his head to the dancer, who stared at him in shock.
"'What' what?" he asked.
"You..." Aeri scoffed. "You actually gave the extra money?"
He shouldn't have felt so offended. "And why is that so hard to believe?"
"Señor, need I remind you who your father is?" drawled Taehyung, wiggling a finger towards Jihoo.
"That doesn't mean I'm exactly like him, gillipolla," hissed he, running a hand through his dark hair.
Looking to the baby in his arms, he sighed. Or at least I think so.
"No."
Jungkook's eyes snapped to the direction of the voice.
"If you think that you're like you're father, señor," Aeri started, "Then you're wrong.
"That man wouldn't think twice about his workers' wishes. For years Taehyung begged him, and his father before him, but he did not listen."
The girl's chocolate eyes bore into Jungkook's own, the very irises swirling with an emotion he couldn't decipher. "At least you heard him. Answered his plea, and fulfilled it."
She paused. "You don't find men of wealth who'd do that much for a mere commoner."
All presence of oxygen escaped the boy, leaving him breathless, in need for something more to get him to breathe.
Was that...
Was that Aeri praising me?
"Pardon?" He blurted out, genuinely surprised over the words emitting from the girl's mouth.
"Why are you so shocked?" Aeri asked. "I spoke the the truth."
"Don't boost his ego too much," Taehyung mused, rocking Jihoo, "Or else his head'll grow double his height, it's already so big."
Jungkook sent the peasant a look which had him cackling out. The former didn't care much for it, as he kept gaping at Aeri Alvarez as if she'd grown another three heads.
Ay Dios, when is she gonna let me breathe?
"Which is why I came here."
The voice had him perking up. "Hmm?"
"Tomorrow evening, the workers have arranged a surprise for you," Taehyung explained. "As a token of our gratitude."
Jungkook pointed his finger at himself. "For me?" He furrowed his brows. "Why?"
"As I've said," The worker repeated, "In thanks for the money you gave us."
He passed the baby back to Aeri, being so careful to hand him to her gently. "You, see, señor, although you have the hard rich boy roots in you, I sense a little redemption.
"And almost all the workers are willing to be friends with you because of the kindness you showed us."
"Almost?"
Taehyung sighed. "A few of the girls want to take the 'being friends' gesture to a whole new level, which consists of you and one of them fucking behind the greenhouse."
"Oh...right."
"Indeed, señor, so I say not to bother with that.
"But what you should bother with is actually coming," he carried. "Because this surprise took a lot of effort."
Jungkook, after, listening to Taehyung, pondered over the answer.
A night out with the workers. Filthy ass commoners who might just waste your precious time even more than they already have.
Come on, Jungkook. You know you don't want to go. Just decline it, he can't do shit about it.
The boy's eyes flicked upwards towards the peasant, patiently waiting for his answer.
But...
They're doing this surprise...for you.
Because you actually helped them.
Why not help some more?
"A question," Jungkook spoke up.
Taehyung quirked a brow. "Yes?"
The former looked to Aeri, murmuring sweet nothings to her child to speed up his slumber. "Is she going?"
"Why, of course Aeri's going!" He declared, slinging an arm around her neck.
"Am I?" She suddenly asked.
Taehyung gave her a knowing little smile. "Of course."
The girl frowned, glancing down at Jihoo. "I don't know, amigo, I have to take care of him, and I got so much work to do—"
"Aeri," the boy interrupted, getting up from the hammock. "I'll give you the day off for tomorrow. It's the Tomatina anyway, so you won't have to work around the house.
"And Mama can take care of Jihoo while we go to the vineyard," he carried on, taking a step forward.
Aeri nuzzled the damned baby closer to her, muttering, "I don't know..."
"Come on, mi flor," Taehyung whined. "It'll be fun, I promise!"
"And plus, I won't go if you won't," Jungkook added.
The girl's eyes flared. "Y-you can't do that!"
Scoffing lightly, he crossed his arms, cocking his head. "Watch me."
"Argh!"
Aeri moved her arms in a soft rhythm, confirming Jihoo's definite nap. Clearly she didn't want to go, but Jungkook couldn't take a girl so young ruining her youth for a baby.
He wanted her to live a little. To enjoy life as much as he did when he went out, to feel the same adrenaline he'd familiarised with.
Hasn't she already, tonto? And isn't that child the result of it?
After a minute long pleading look from Taehyung, Aeri Alvarez sighed out in defeat.
"Fine, you assholes. I'll come."
The two boys cheered in celebration, egging her to smile a little until one corner of her mouth tugged upward, just too close to becoming a mesmerising grin.
"Now eat the food I made you, señor, or else my hard work will go to waste."
"Si, señorita!"
-
The evening practically flew past, the day of the Tomatina finally arriving after a whole year of impatience.
Half the elites had travelled to Buñol, probably the only one left in Seville being the boy, who was skipping around the estate as if it was the last time he'd do it.
Aeri Alvarez stayed with her child, choosing to play with him over keeping her boss company, which was the exact opposite the boss himself wanted.
He didn't have to wait long, though, for the evening slid into the present, indicating the two that it was time to go to the vineyard.
The two were instructed to wear something beautiful, so that's what they went with. Jungkook wore a navy coloured shirt, the sleeves airy and large until cuffed at the wrists. Black trousers tightened on his jeans, boots of the same colour adorning his feet.
The boy brought out a pocket watch, waiting with little patience for Aeri's arrival.
The sudden tapping of shoes had him looking up.
And kept looking.
Aeri Alvarez wore a dress that looked like a second skin, with how they seemed to swallow her body and become the body so effortlessly. That was only the upper part however, as the bottom then flowed out to the floor, the edges hitching when twirled.
She looked classy. Sexy. A woman he'd fallen so hard for that he just couldn't get back up.
The girl tossed her curly locks from her face. "Let's go."
"You look beautiful," he said in answer.
Blinking, she replied, "Thank you."
She then looked over the boy in front, eyes assessing his outfit.
Jungkook braced himself for the compliment.
None came as she walked right past him, out of the gate.
"Hey!"
Coco stood out, waiting for her master to send her galloping as Jungkook followed Aeri out of the estate.
To his horror, he saw Aeri trying to get on the horse, even with being in a dress which most certainly hitched up the moment she raised her leg to the strap.
"Aeri!" He hurried over to her. "Wait, let me help—"
"I'm fine," she said, waving his hungry hands off as she heaved upwards, sitting atop the horse with both legs to the side.
Jungkook ran a tongue over his teeth. How in the world did she do that?
"Are you gonna eye-molest me all night or shall we get going?" Aeri jeered.
"Oh! Sorry, sorry," he murmured, hopping atop the horse, behind her.
It was just not the time to sense her so close to him. He was about to hang onto her—
"Touch me, señor, and I'll kick you off the horse," she snapped.
Well alright then.
He gripped onto the saddle, praying to God he didn't fall off and break his neck as Aeri snapped the reigns and began to ride.
-
Jungkook nearly broke his neck when he arrived at the vineyard.
"Jeez, Aeri, you could have killed me!" He exclaimed, getting off Coco after her.
"What a shame that would have been," she said dryly, dusting off her dress.
He gave her a nasty look. Why am I infatuated with her, again?
Opening the vineyard gates, the two were welcomed by a mass of workers, all grinning in pure joy over their arrival.
Taehyung stepped forward, looking a little more fresher, probably because he actually gave his face a wash after so long. His clothes weren't quite so tattered, either.
In fact, the peasant surprisingly looked handsome. It only radiated more with that boxy smile of his.
"Señor! Mi poco flor!" He greeted, going over to kiss Aeri's cheek.
He looked her over, letting out a smooth wolf whistle. "Up for a second child, querida?"
The girl only laughed, smacking his arm.
Taehyung then turned to Jungkook.
A malicious smirk graced his lips.
He took a step forward, fisted hands spread out. "Señor."
The boss of them all walked towards his employee, arms reflecting the move to hug Taehyung. "Ah, it's so good—"
They were about to exchange hugs, to bond in this brotherly code when the most unexpected happened.
SPLAT!
"AH!" Jungkook screamed, clutching his cheek in agony. He found the skin moist.
What the fuck—
He looked at his hands. There was liquid, and it was red, but it wasn't blood.
Wait, is that—
Jungkook looked up.
There, in Taehyung's hand, was a squeezed tomato, the juice sliming out his spindly fingers.
The peasant's grin spread wide. "Let the Tomatina began."
