3: A Party To Remember
{Rachel's POV}
As we walked into the Stoll's house, Katie, Will, Frank, Calypso, and I surrounded Piper, hiding her from Zak, who was currently making out with a girl in the corner.
"There you lame-os are," Clarisse La Rue, our non-popular friend rolled her eyes. "Come on, idiots. We're hanging out in Connor's room."
Clarisse led us up the stairs into a room with a sloppy letter C on it. A large group of kids were already laughing and talking as we walked in, but quieted down as we entered. I only had ever talked to Leo Valdez, one of Piper's best friends, Jason Grace, her not-so-secret crush, and Connor and Travis Stoll. I had seen everyone around school, but not their names.
"Alright. People, meet my rich popular friends," Clarisse rolled her eyes. We gave waves and smiles. "Get in a circle. It'll be like kindergarten!" Leo smiled happily. A girl with black hair and electric blue eyes slapped him on the arm. "I guess," Katie muttered.
"Well, uh, I'm Percy Jackson," a boy with raven hair and green eyes introduced. That was his name! All of the girls were after him. He was cute, but not my type. I could see why girls were falling for him left and right.
"My name's Annabeth. Chase," a curly haired blonde with grey eyes remarked. She added her last name quick and glared at the girl with black hair and electric blue eyes.
"That's Thalia Grace," Annabeth said, the girl wincing at her last name. "And that's her brother Jason Grace."
"I'M LEO FLAMING VALDEZ!" Leo yelled. A few of the girls facepalmed.
"Uh, well, I'm Hazel Levesque," a small dark-skinned girl muttered. Her frizzy hair was flying in all directions in her frizzy bun, and her golden eyes shimmered in the light of the room. I watched Frank blush. One thing I knew was how to tell if people were crushing, and I'd say that's a crush, Frank!
"I'm Travis," Connor said.
"And I'm Connor," Travis said.
"JUST KIDDING!" they yelled, getting groans, laughs, facepalms, and rolled eyes.
"I'm Nico," a goth-ish kid muttered. "Di Angelo."
"Well, my name is Reyna Avila Ramirez-Arellano," a tall girl with dark brown hair and eyes smiled.
"So, I'm Piper McLean," Piper smiled, trying to appear friendly. "That's our-"
"RESIDENT GAY, WILL SOLACE!" Will finished our inside joke. The large group laughed.
"I'm Katie Gardner," Katie started. "Kit-Kat?" Travis asked. People laughed. "No, Stoll. Katie. You already knew that," she retried. "Whatever, Katie-Kat," he answered. She rolled her eyes, blushing in the tiniest bit.
"I'm Frank Zhang," Frank smiled. "And-"
"I'm Rachel Elizabeth Dare," I said, finishing Frank's sentence.
"And, uh, I'm Calypso Nightshade," Calypso introduced.
"Alright. Enough with the kindergarten crap. Katie, truth or dare?" Clarisse asked. Katie contemplated her answer. "Um...dare I guess," Katie answered, "but make it easy." "Fine, princess. Show us your tattoo."
See, the thing about tattoos, is that they're pretty private. Most people didn't like showing off their tattoos unless they've found their soulmate. Past years have brought people pretending to be other people's soulmates, people covering up their tattoos, etc. So, this is a real dare.
Katie sighed an lifted up her sleeve. "Fine. But don't laugh," she ordered. "Don't worry, I won't. You should see some of ours," Annabeth laughed. Others nodded.
Katie's shoe tattoo that I had seen before multiple times was etched onto her shoulder, orange and white. But a new thing was added, a white wing on the design of the shoe.
"Woah! That wing's new! I must've met him!" Katie smiled. "Well congrats," Reyna said, smiling at Katie. Everyone seemed chill with Katie's tattoo, except for three people: Percy, Connor, and Travis.
Travis' face was redder than a tomato, and Connor and Percy were cracking up. Annabeth slapped Percy's arm. "Seaweed Brain, she said not to laugh!" she scolded.
"It's...not...her....tattoo," he panted, "it's....something...else."
I had a feeling he knew who her soulmate was.
"Wait, what kind of name is Seaweed Brain? I want to know the origins of these nicknames," I demanded. Some of the kids smiled. "Here we go," Reyna laughed.
"Well, I'm Seaweed Brain because one time in ninth grade, we went to the beach together. I went into the water for the longest time, and nobody could find me. Once they did, I was laying on the beach with seaweed all over my face because I passed out underwater. The doctors don't know how I survived, but Annabeth over here never let it go," Percy laughed while pointing to Annabeth. Oh, they totally liked each other. "Well, I guess for revenge, Percy calls me Wise Girl. I guess 'cause I do well in school or something," Annabeth rolled her eyes. "Don't lie, Wise Girl! It's 'cause when we were little, she was always the first person to raise their hand and one time, she called herself 'the wisest girl in da world'," he said in a baby voice. Annabeth rolled her eyes again.
"I call him Kelp Head, though," Thalia piped up.
"Any more?" Piper asked. Percy nodded.
"Thalia is Pinecone Face because she ran into a pine tree once trying to climb it," he laughed, and Thalia punched him. "That's not what happened and you know it. I climbed up a tree and knocked Percy down, getting stuck up there myself. Don't judge me, we were like seven. That's where Jason got his nickname, Blonde Superman," she rolled her eyes.
"We got a few more," Clarisse laughed. "Right, Miss Princess?" "Stop calling me that, Clarisse," Annabeth growled. "Fine. Prissy can tell you," Clarisse said, pointing to Percy.
"Well Death Breath over here is goth as heck, so that's pretty obvious. Uh, Leo is Uncle Leo, long story, uh, I think that's it," Percy said. "We're boring. I'm just Dare," I laughed.
Suddenly, a pound on the locked door was heard. "Piper, you in there? It's Zak. Come out here," Zak said.
Piper froze up, shaking. Leo had a look of panic of his face. "Hide her. NOW," he ordered. The others looked confused, but agreed nonetheless.
We shoved Piper into a closet and all scattered across the room, like we'd been sitting there for hours. Leo unlocked the door. "Valdez," Zak sneered, "Jackson. Grace." "Robins," they answered. "Where's my girlfriend?" Zak asked. Jason seemed to catch on. "Last I heard, Piper broke up with you," he snapped. "Well, that's what she thinks, now where is she?" Zak demanded. "Zak, she doesn't like you! And she left an hour ago. She looked sick," I rolled my eyes. He stomped out of the room.
Leo slammed the door and locked it. I coaxed a sobbing Piper out of the smelly closet.
"Uh, what just happened?" Thalia asked. Our group of friends sighed. "Look, Spunky, it's none of your business-" Calypso snapped and started, but Piper stopped her. "It's fine, Cal. He's abusive. He wants to sleep with me," Piper muttered.
I had never seen some of the rowdiest kids in our school so speechless. Best part? A bunch of them wrapped Piper in a hug. These kids weren't bad after all.
"Piper, he's a jack-" Nico started, but Hazel slapped a hand over has mouth. "NO SWEARING!" she ordered. Nico rolled his eyes. "Hazel's my adoptive sister," he explained. I nodded.
"Hey, whatever happened to truth or dare?" Clarisse whined.
...
The party was better than we all expected, and now here we were, with everybody, at a sleepover at the Stolls' a month later. We all had become great friends, causing drama at school, but who honestly gave a crap?
"So how was school, guys?" Will asked. Nico shook his head. "Ugh. This girl came up and asked me out, and I was like, honey, do I look straight to you?" he explained, getting a laugh from everyone, and a smile from me to Will. Two gay guys in one group, and I knew Will was crushing on him, even if it was small.
"What about tattoos?" I asked, quickly changing the subject. "DUDE! Mine is so detailed now. I wonder if it's someone in this group?" Piper asked, but immediately regretted it, blushing her face off.
"I didn't even consider that. I mean, all of our tattoos are like really complex now aren't they? I mean, except for me and Reyna," Thalia said. Her and Reyna had soulmates, they just didn't go to the school we went to.
"Well yeah, mine went from a messy blob to a necklace looking thing," Frank volunteered. I scanned the room. It finally caught my eye. Hazel was fidgeting with a necklace, not paying attention. That necklace looked a lot like the one Frank had a tattoo of! Oh, they were so soulmates. If you couldn't tell, I'm the matchmaker of the group.
After a few hours, most of us were asleep, except for my original group of friends and I.
"So...I have something to tell you guys," Calypso muttered. We turned to her. "I know it's kinda rude, but can I ditch our hangout tomorrow for...a date?" she stuttered, whispering the last part.
"WELL DUH, CAL!" I yelped, but then quickly quiet down considering the people around us. "With who?" Katie asked excitedly.
She muttered something.
"Who?"
"...Leo."
"SHUT UP! Seriously?!" Piper asked. "Yeah," she blushed. "If he hurts you, I'll break his face," Will said, cracking his knuckles. "I will, too!" Piper volunteered.
"There will be no breaking of anyone's face!" Frank whispered. Piper and Will rolled their eyes. "Fine. I'll just...put him in the nurse's office," Piper grinned. "Where Will volunteers?" I asked. "That's the point," she smirked.
Man, these friends were strange, but amazing.
