10: Wild Hallway Chase
No pun intended ^^
Sooo I'm gonna review what happened last time and what'll happen this time from now on...I guess idk.
WHAT HAPPENED LAST TIME:
BASICALLY, everyone discovered that Caleo are soulmates, Drew is Piper's sister, and everyone (except Piper) found out that Jason and Piper like each other.
WHAT'S COMING UP:
Everyone goes looking for Piper. Katie and Travis get stuck, Leo and Calypso have a moment, Annabeth and Percy get sidetracked, Hazel and Frank get bullied, Nico and Will get in trouble, Rachel and Connor come close to finding out something, no one knows where Reyna, Clarisse, and Thalia are, and Jason just wants to find Piper.
Also this chapter is really dramatic. Like high school movie dramatic.
Hope that encouraged you to read.
(Katie's POV)
"Travis! What the heck are you doing?" I scolded.
Travis turned to me and smirked. That troublemaker smirk that brings out his dimples and his freckles seem to pop out of his face. The troublemaker smirk that, I hate to admit, I've learned to know and love.
"Why, Katie-Kat, you don't believe that I'm going to do something stupid, would you?" Travis jiggled the doorknob of the janitor's closet again. "Why won't this open?" he muttered.
"We're supposed to be looking for Piper," I crossed my arms. "You really think Piper would hide in the janitor's closet?"
"They do it in high school movies," Travis shrugged. "I've done it."
"I - I'm not even gonna ask," I decided. "Just...if we're gonna go in there, be quick about it. I don't wanna get caught."
He scoffed. "Pfft, you think that I'm gonna get caught? Please, I'm the king of pranks. Well, co - king. But if I've never been caught before, doubt I will now." Travis jiggled the doorknob again, and this time, it opened. "Yes!" he cheered.
I poked my head in to see no Piper, just as I suspected. I was about to give Travis a good "I told you so" when he shoved me in the closet.
"What the-" he covered my mouth with his hand.
"Shh!" he whispered. "There's a teacher coming!"
Travis smushed himself through the doorway and closed the door. "No!" I managed, but he didn't hear me.
I heard heels clicking on the boring white tiles, and from the walk pattern, I determined it as Mrs. Dodds. Yeah, Mrs. Seriously, why would somebody marry her?
After Mrs. Dodds clopped away, Travis sighed in relief. He jiggled on the door handle, and started to panic. "No, no, you're kidding me."
"I told you not to!" I scolded and turned on the light. "You didn't listen!"
Travis hit his head on the door and slid onto the floor. "Now what?"
(Leo's POV)
I dragged Calypso behind me as we searched the halls for Piper. Why does Jason have to be so clueless? Like, I don't even think Percy's that clueless about Annabeth.
"Where could she have gone?" I muttered.
"It's fine, Leo. We'll find her," Calypso assured, but she had an edge in her voice. I chose to ignore it for the time being.
"It's no t the end of the world, really. I mean, we will find her. It's not like she's dead. Wait, is she dead? What if-"
"Leo, cool down."
"Sorry. I'm just upset 'cause she's probably really mad at me. Not to mention I just spilled her crush secret to Jason-"
"That wasn't you."
"But I started the conversation!"
"Leo! Stop!"
I turned to see Calypso with a scowl (Jason) gracing her face. Her arms were crossed, and her right foot was tapping impatiently. "It's not that big of a deal."
"What do you mean? I thought Piper was like your best friend?" I asked.
She seemed to think about her answer. "I guess."
And you thought I was stupid. I quickly figured it out.
"You're...jealous," I muttered.
Calypso made a face and was taken aback. Her foot stopped tapping and she started to lower her arms, but quickly put them back. "I have no idea what you mean."
"No, you're jealous. Of Piper! My best friend since kindergarten! I know literally everything about her, and she doesn't have any interest in me," I assured her. "Plus, you're my soulmate. Literally!"
She huffed. "Okay, so maybe a little. But you can't blame me if I'm jealous of the girl you've known your entire life, hang out with everyday, know everything about, and literally kiss on the cheek all the time."
"Sunshine, I swear you have nothing to be worried about," I sighed. "It's just Piper, okay? She's just Piper."
"One, don't call me Sunshine," Calypso rolled her eyes. "Two, fine."
I smiled before I heard a voice.
"Just Piper, huh?"
I turned and saw Piper standing there with red eyes, and I cursed loudly. "How much did you hear?" I was hoping she heard a lot of the conversation.
"I heard that I'm 'just Piper'," she put air-quotes around "just Piper". "Am I really that bad?"
"Piper, that's not what he meant by it," Calypso assured her.
"So what did you mean?" Piper crossed her arms. Calypso opened her mouth to say something but then closed it. After about twenty seconds of silence, Piper rolled her eyes and ran down the hall.
"Piper, wait!" I called, and chased after her. But when I turned down the corner, Piper was nowhere to be seen.
(Annabeth's POV)
"Percy, oh my gosh," I rolled my eyes. "Piper is not going to be in her locker."
Percy yanked on the locker's latch. "You don't know that."
"I do know that. Let's go look in a classroom or something," I insisted.
"Please. The last place Piper would be is a classroom. She hates school," Percy argued.
"She doesn't hate school. I've known her longer than you have," I crossed my arms.
"Yeah, like one day."
"One very productive day."
"Ahem."
Percy and I turned around to see Miss Hestia, a small cinnamon skinned English teacher, standing in front of us. "Are you two out on a pass?"
"Uh..." Percy trailed off.
"Yes! Um, we're out on..."
"We were looking to join yearbook committee!" Percy finished. I glared at him through the corner of my eye.
"Oh, that's fantastic! Follow me!" Miss Hestia smiled. She walked off and Percy and I slowly followed.
"Yearbook committee?" I scolded.
"It was the first thing that came to my brain!" Percy defended. This is just GREAT.
(Hazel's POV)
"Frank, uh, you're really good friends with Piper, right? Do you know where she'd be?" I stuttered.
Frank nodded. "Yeah. Well, the really good friends with Piper part. I have no idea where she'd be. Piper's been really distant recently."
I turned to him. "Wait, seriously?" I asked. "Tell me."
He shrugged. "There's not much to say, really. After what we now know as the 'Drew Tanaka Incident', Piper didn't talk much to me or Will. I know she went to Rachel's for a sleepover, but otherwise..."
I caught his signals and quietly nodded. It wasn't until four minutes later when I said anything.
"Frank, look!"
Octavian Romanus, a scrawny, dumb, idiotic boy, was standing at the other side of the hallway with his gang, Olivia Carlson and Oscar Lupa. The O's, as everyone called them, but Olivia ruined that by wanting people to call her Livia. Octavian wasn't very strong, but Oscar and Olivia were.
"The O's," he muttered. "C'mon Haze, we gotta go."
"Hello, Zhang and Levesque!" Octavian smirked. I rolled my eyes.
"What do you need?" I asked him.
"Oh nothing," he responded. "Olivia, Oscar, do the honors?"
Oscar shoved me into Frank and we landed onto lockers. I landed a nose apart from Frank.
"Uhh, hi," he blushed.
"Hi," I squeaked.
"So, uhh..."
"Can we just...?"
"Yeah."
Frank stood up and pulled me to my feet. Time to face the O's.
(Nico's POV)
"What the actual hell are you doing?" I asked Will. He turned and looked at me.
"Looking for Piper, duh. I know where she is," he insisted.
"But why are you leading me down the electives hallway? She's not going to be down here, there are classes going on," I protested.
"I know!" Will said. "There's a class that isn't, though."
"That's not even the biggest problem!" I continued. "Why are you leading me down the electives hallway while holding my hand ?"
Will turned and let go of my hand, crossing his arms. "Is that a problem, Mr. Gay Boy?"
"Okay, one, that's offensive. Two, yes, it's a problem if we're friends," I argued.
"Oh, so we're friends now?" Will smirked.
I felt blood rush up to my face. No, there's no way I'm blushing. "Well, if we hang out daily, I would classify us as friends."
"Yeah, yeah," he laughed. "I was just teasing. Now come on, let's keep going." Will went to grab my hand again, but a voice interrupted us.
"Just what do you think you two are doing?"
I noticed Mrs. Hera behind Will as he turned. She was tapping her foot angrily and glaring at us.
"Oh, uh, we were just..." Will stammered.
"I led him out here," I quickly stepped in. "He...forgot his homework in his locker. I was trying to get him there."
Mrs. Hera stared flatly at me. "Very well. What is your name and homeroom, boys?"
"Nico di Angelo, my homeroom is Miss Demeter. This is..." I trailed off. "Jake Mason. Also from Miss Demeter's."
Mrs. Hera smirked. "Fine then. Mr. di Angelo, come with me, Mr. Mason, head back to the cafeteria. I'll be speaking with you during homeroom tomorrow." She turned and strutted off.
When I looked at Will, his eyes were wide and in shock. "You just...you said...what...?"
"Go find Piper," I insisted. "See you after detention."
(Connor's POV)
I watched as Rachel paged through her diary. "No...no...no! None of this will help!"
She sat cross-legged with her back against her locker, and I sat next to her. Rachel's diary was emerald green, rather like her eyes, with a large pocket on the front with a big black "R" on it. Inside the pocket was a blue plastic hairbrush.
"What is the diary supposed to do again?"
Rachel turned to me with an almost-glare face. "I write everything down in here everyday. I've had it since ninth grade. This isn't the first time we hurt Piper's feelings this badly."
"So, she's dramatic?" I asked.
This time, Rachel's face was a glare.
"She's been through a lot, you know. Neglecting father, abusive boyfriend, bullying, all of it. You can't just assume she's 'dramatic'," she scowled.
"Okay, okay!" I threw my arms up in protest. "I shouldn't've of said that, it was a jerk move. Annabeth and Thalia get like this, too." Rachel shrugged and continued to flip through her journal.
"So, are you free-"
"AHA!"
I jumped at Rachel's sudden outburst. "What? Did you find something?"
Rachel nodded rapidly. "Right here! In tenth grade! Look!" She handed me the book and I took it out of her hands. At first, I couldn't tell what she wanted me to see, but then, I found it:
Piper's been really distant. She just started dating Zak, maybe it has something to do with it? I'm not sure. But I do know that she's been really into musicals lately. Well, more than usual. Especially Chicago and Wicked. She's always singing songs from them.
"Musicals?" I asked. "So?"
"So," Rachel continued, "she's still like that! Piper's probably in the theater room!"
"But the theater room probably has a class right now," I protested.
Rachel frowned as she realized I was right. "What about Mr. Apollo's room? He always liked her. Or Mr. Cupid? Her uncle?"
"No reason not to try," I smiled, and dragged Rachel by her hand.
(Will's POV)
After Nico left me in the hallway, I snapped out of my shock and continued down the electives hallway. The classroom she'd be in is the one classroom she felt safest in, the classroom she made friends in, the classroom that had no class going on right now.
I turned right and entered the theater room. As I wondered in, I was greeted by a beautifully familiar voice singing a familiar musical song.
"And if I'm flying solo,
At least I'm flying free!
To those who ground me,
Take a message back from me!"
I tried following the voice to the back room. Climbing over hundreds of props, I continued on.
"Tell them how I am defying gravity!
I'm flying high
Defying gravity!
And soon I'll match them in renown."
I noticed her hair and knew I was right there.
"And nobody in all of Oz, no wizard that there is or was, is ever gonna..." I continued, and Piper jumped. Once she noticed me, she gave me a weak smile.
"Hey, Will," she smiled.
"No, Piper, finish!" I pleaded. "Let me hear that note!"
Piper rolled her eyes. "Fine." She played her iPhone again and her eyes came to life. I could tell it was close.
"Bring me down!
Woah!"
Piper finished and blushed as I applauded. "Just...come sit down, Will."
