Part One

"Betty Blue, Betty Blue. Do you read me? C'mon." Jonas Blane sent out a radio signal to his fellow Unit member through the dry brutal foliage of a dense field. He was dressed head to toe in camouflage, and the sun was beating on him so fiercely that he had to constantly pause to wipe the sweat from his eyes to get a better view of his surroundings.

"I read you loud and clear Snake Doc. What's your twenty?" Carlito responded, relieved by his friend's unexpected contact. The walkie-talkie sounded like it sparked as he unconsciously spit against the mouthpiece while talking. It had been days since their last correspondence. He held onto the hard rectangular handset as if it was his only link to salvation, before Jonas called back once more through the miniature amplifier lightheartedly.

"Outstanding..." Blane grinned to himself as the mound of arid grass swallowed up his body in a warm earthly cocoon.

"Beautiful..." Carlito mirrored his comrade's wit, breathing in a sigh of relief. "How's the package?"

"The package is en route. I repeat. The package is en route... The Robin leaves the nest at dawn."

"Message received..."

"Take care of your end, brother."

"Take care of your ass." Betty Blue considerately cautioned his superior before alerting the others in the group of their new plan for departure.

"Snake Doc out." Jonas swiftly turned down the dial so the signal would end soon after sharing his modest memo.

Before he could rest back against the earth the sound of labored wheezing echoed into view in his peripheral, "Good morning Governor, it's a beautiful day to be alive."
