we are the hero's of our time.

"AGAIN," IZZY ORDERED Sophia and Beth as they were fighting each other with their fists. Sophia grunted as she swung a punch at Beth who dodged it a second too closed. "Again!"

Daryl stood to the side, leaning up against a tree, smirking in amusement as Beth was barely holding herself up against a thirteen year old. Jack was cheering on both girls because he would feel bad if he were to choose one over the other. And, Claire was off hunting.

It's been about two week's since the whole incident with the prison blowing up, and they haven't had any trouble since then, only a few walkers here and there, nothing too big. The only other problem was finding food, but that was a given due to them being in the middle of nowhere.

Izzy smirked in satisfaction as both girls were able to handle themselves a whole lot better now that she is able to train them a lot more often.

So far, the girls, including jack knew how to handle guns — big and small, daggers, and they knew a couple tricks to get the upper hand in a fist fight, but, they were still amateurs.

"Again," Izzy demanded, loudly.

Sophia grunted and let out a frustrated yell before finally hitting Beth in the jaw with her little fist. Beth staggered back for a second before swiping Sophia's legs out from underneath her, sending her to the ground.

"Good job," Izzy complimented Beth before nodding to Sophia to get up, and the thirteen year old obliged. "Sophia. Go practice with Jack. I'll work with Beth." The thirteen year old obliged. The youngest Winchester turned to Beth, getting in a fighting stance. "Once you can take me down, you're done for the day."

"Okay." She nodded determinanly, and got in a defensive mode, holding up her fists.

"Strike one," Izzy said which made Beth frown in confusion. "Don't put your fists up like that until you're going to swing. It gives your opponent a thought on what you're gonna do. And when you're gonna throw a punch, try to sike the other person out, okay?"

She nodded and lowered her fists.

As Izzy nodded and went to take a step back, Beth threw her fist towards her face at a fast pace. Expecting it, Izzy moved her head to the side and gripped the younger blondes fist. She smirked and shoved her backwards harshly, making the young Greene stumble in surprise.

"That was good, but you had your body positioned wrong, and you were way too slow. I saw you making that move a mile away." She tsked, shaking her head in disappointment. "I thought I taught you better than that. Come on!"

Beth nodded went to throw a right hook at Izzy, but the Winchester easily dodged it, again.

She grunted and changed her stance. She wanted Izzy to think that she was gonna throw another right hook, but she actually went to throw a left one.

Izzy quickly grabbed her left fist and pushed it away from her. "Again," She demanded.

Beth let out a frustrated breath and sent a kick to her legs, but Izzy easily gripped it and threw her backwards. She landed hard on her back, letting out a huff.

"Stop getting frustrated and angry," Izzy told her, holding out a hand for her to grab. Beth huffed out a breath and gripped her hand, and Izzy hoisted her up. "Don't fight with your emotions. It makes you vulnerable in a fight against an enemy who wants you dead."

"The dead wants us dead," Sophia shouted from where she had kicked Jack in the shin. The young Nephilim let out a cry of pain before grabbing his shin.

"Yeah, but the walkers can't think," Izzy spoke up. "Going against a human enemy is different. They can think, they can see your moves coming and block them, they can strategize, and they can beat you. Me teaching you will help you go up against someone twice your size, and weight. And trust me, there is much more out there to hurt you than just walkers and people. I want you all to learn to protect yourself just in case Daryl and I aren't around."

They had all stopped and looked at her, giving her soft looks. They knew a lot of people won't survive this whole apocalypse, but they were hoping that if anyone was going to survive, it was Izzy. She was the strongest out of everyone in the group.

Izzy let out a breath. "Daryl, can you go and look for Claire, she's been gone a little too long for my liking."

Daryl grunted before walking away, his crossbow slung over his shoulder.

HOURS LATER, Izzy began to become even more worried once Claire and Daryl didn't show up. There was no traces of them whatsoever.

Suddenly, something came running around them, too fast to be a human or a walker. It's screeched reaches Izzy's ears making her curse and shout in both fear and anger.

"Kids!" Izzy shouted, grabbing them and keeping them right beside her. She yanked at her duffel bag and brought out a flare. She quickly lit the thing and flashed it around the four of them. "Fuck!" She yelled as the thing ran past them again, making the girls scream in fear. "Son of a bitch!" She quickly yanked out a map from her backpack and gave Jack the flare. "Coal mine... coal mine. Aha!" She shouted as her eyes zeroed in on a coal mine that was maybe a mile or two away from where they currently were. "That means it's a—" She was cut off as the thing launched itself at them.

Izzy yanked the flare out of Jack's hands and threw it at the monster. It screeched and staggered back before growling again. It launched at them one more time, and this time, Sophia was stupid enough to run off into the woods.

"Sophia!" The others screamed as the monster ran after her, leaving the trio behind in the dark.

"Son of a bitch!" Izzy shouted at the top of her lungs and stood up, rummaging through her bag, looking for more flares and flare guns. She knew that they would need them sooner or later, and she hated the fact that it was sooner rather than later.

"Wh—What was that thing?" Beth stuttered out, shaking like a leaf on a tree. Jack, seeing how shaken up she was, placed his jacket over her shoulders, and pulled her into a hug.

"A wendigo."

"What is a, um.., a—"

"Wenidgos are old coal miners or even natives that were starved for a long period of time that they became cannibals. The cannibalism them consumed them and made them into something not human, into what you just saw," Izzy explained, making sure the flare guns were full before handed one to both of them, and kept one for herself. "They don't like fires, it weakens them and kills them. You see anything that doesn't look human, shoot it until it's not moving anymore."

AFTER A GOOD AMOUNT of time, they reached the abandoned mine. Isabelle sighed and closed her eyes for a short second. They could be dead, she knew that, but, she knew that wendigo's love to make their food supply last a while, especially now since it's low due to the apocalypse.

She turned around and faced both Jack and Beth. "You both stay by me, do not leave my side, not even if you hear someone calling out for help. They can mimic people. Okay?"

Turning on their flashlights, they slowly ventured into the mine, going through many tunnels and passageways until they heard hushed whispers and groans coming from a tunnel to the right. Quickly but quietly, they made their way to the hushed whispers, hoping and praying to Chuck that they were alive and well.

As they entered into a small room full of skeletons and dead bodies hanging from the ceiling, Beth gasped and let out a strangled cry.

"Oh, my god."

"Over there!" Izzy whisper-shouted as she saw Daryl, Claire, and Sophia hanging by their wrists. "Jack, cut down Sophia, Beth cut down Claire, and I'll cut down Daryl."

They did as told and eventually, the other three was down on the ground, catching their breathes, and rubbing their bruised and bleeding wrists. Daryl had blood running down his face, Claire was limping and had blood running down her arm where a scratch could be seen, and Sophia was muddied and bleeding from her leg.

Turning around, Izzy held her breath as she came face to face with another wendigo. It's white eyes felt like they were staring right through her and into her soul.

"Shoot it..." she whispered out, loud enough for Jack and Beth to start shooting at it with flare guns until it was screeching and withering. It's whole body was on fire and then it dropped dead. Izzy let out a breath and turned to Beth and Jack with a proud smile.

And that was mistake.

A wendigo came out of nowhere and rammed into her, sending them both flying to the ground, her back cracking as it came in contact with the ground. She let out a cry and struggled to push the thing off of her. It was so close to her face, it's mouth open. She could smell the rotten flesh in it's mouth, and she could even seen pieces of flesh stuck between it's teeth.

"Guys!" Izzy screamed, her eyes wide in fear as the mouth moved closer to face. She turned her head sideways and closed her eyes as the thing screamed — well, more like screeched — into her ear. "Help!"

Suddenly, the wendigo was off of her and was screeching in anger as it caught on fire.

"Come on," Daryl grunted, holding out a hand to her and she gripped it tight, and allowed him to pull her up into a standing a position.

"Let's blow this place up and go!" Shouted Isabelle, and they all quickly booked it out of the mines as more screeches and growls followed them.

THEY ALL STOOD at the entrance of the mine, watching it go up in flames.

"What the hell just happened?!" Daryl demanded, turning to face Izzy, Jack , and Claire seeing as they weren't that fazed with what had just went down. "What were those things and how did you guys know what to do?"

"Yeah, we want to know, too," Beth muttered out, Jack's jacket still around her, and she had her arms around a shaken Sophia.

"Let's get away from here first. The fire will draw the attention of both human's and walkers. We also got to find a place to lay low and take care of any wounds that anyone got before we explain," She told them, wiping off her face seeing as she had wendigo spit on her face. "We'll explain everything tomorrow morning after we all get some much needed sleep."
