Nothing

I woke up in a comfortable bed and rubbed my eyes tiredly, after what was probably the best night's sleep I'd had for a long time.

Sitting up stiffly, I look around what I supposed was my new room. It was nothing special, just a small square shaped area with bare beige walls, a simple wooden dresser in the front left corner with a handheld mirror set on top, and my small suitcase next to the door, unopened and undisturbed.

Getting out of bed, I explored the modest space, making note of every small nook and crany. I unpacked my bag, setting the contents on my new mattress. Neatly folding everything, I put all of my new clothes in my drawers, only to find that my new parents had already bought me clothes. I took out one of the shirts that was in the top drawer. It was just a simple plain white tee, but I liked it, so I tried it on and saw that it fit almost perfectly. Hmm. I didn't question it, and finished stuffing my old clothes in with my new ones.

Quickly grabbing a purple brush from off of my bed, I attempted to brush the mess of knotted chestnut coloured crap that I called my hair. Hey, at least I tried. I gave up, and opted for my usual high ponytail. I looked over at the mirror on my dresser, and looked into it only to see my own dirt coloured eyes staring back up at me. But, for a second, I could've sworn they had turned black. And I don't mean my pupils dilated; I mean fully black. Even the part that's usually white. Whoa. Creepy, much?

I had a hard time finding anyone in what I assumed to be the Winchester household. Turns out everyone was in the kitchen (the last place I looked, of course), but I did find the library, living room, dining area, bedrooms, storage room, endless bathrooms, and a dungeon. Who were these people?

The strong scent of liquor filled the air, so I thought everyone in the room would be drinking something, but when I walked in, only Dean had a glass out. Sam was huddled over a laptop, clicking away at something vigorously. Cas had a newspaper in hand, studying it like his life depended on the contents of yesterday's news. Sam looked up at me and nodded to show the he acknowledged my presence, then went back to his computer.

"Got anything, Sammy?" Dean asked, setting his cup down on the counter. Sam shook his head.

Castiel slammed the paper down in frustration. "No demons, angels, or monsters for a week. Something's about to happen. Something big."

"Dean," Sam said, shutting his notes, "Cas is right. Something's coming."

All three of them looked over to me. "Good thing we have a new recruit, then," Dean told the others.

"New recruit...?" I asked, unsure about what he was talking about. "Oh-no."

And then Dean up finished with, "Saving people, hunting things, the family business. And like it or not, Ada, you're part of this family now."

I looked around at the three of them. "I'm ten! Why me?"

Sam answered. "We asked Ms. Anike for a child who wasn't scared of the monster under the bed, or the one in the closet. And she suggested you, Ada. She wanted you to be a Winchester."

They all acted like I would just go along with their insane plan of teaching my how to hunt. Like I said before, I was only ten at the time. Freaking ten! I just couldn't believe my ears.

Sam, Dean, and Castiel had told me that there were things in the universe to fear. And that those things feared the Winchesters. They could live inside of us. And bad stuff happened when they did. The Winchesters had made it their life's mission to hunt down and kill as many sons of {bowties} as possible. I honestly didn't know what to think about my new dads. According to the Winchester boys, death is not goodbye. At least, not for hunters.

"Or angels," Cas pointed out. Oh yeah. Forgot to mention that Castiel was an angel of the Lord.

The three of them had been fighting evil for as long as the could remember, and had all died more times then they could count.

Castiel said something up his breath that sounded like, "73," but I wasn't sure.

Imagine spending a decade thinking you had the basics of life figured out, and then three dudes break into your perfect little haven and change your entire perspective of everything. It's like being adopted by the Winchesters. Wait...never mind...you get the point...

I was about to say something when the all of the lights flickered once, and with everything I had just learned, I knew that flickering lights almost never had something to do with the electrical wiring.

Dean stood up. "Mrs. Tran is here. I'll go get her. "

Sam quietly got up and left the room, heading for who-knows-where.

"Um..." I said to Cas, the only person left for me to talk to. "What was that all about?"

Castiel shifted his position then answered me. "A couple years back, Sam attempted to close the gates of Hell, but Dean talked him out of it after it was too late. Sam was dying, and Dean became desperate. He sent out an open call to all angels, asking for someone to come save his brother, and an angel named Gadreel answered. He told Dean that his name was Ezekiel, and that the only way to bring Sam back was for Gadreel to use Sam as a vessel, so Dean and Ezekiel tricked Sam into accepting him. Once inside, the angel had full control of Sam, and took advantage of him. Gadreel used Sam to help Metatron, and Metatron used Gadreel as an assassin, and he had him kill Kevin Tran, a prophet who was helping us decipher the ancient word of God. Kevin came back as a ghost, and whenever Mrs. Tran comes over, she always brings Kevin along with her, and we're afraid the he'll try to take revenge on Sam for killing him. So Sam goes away when Kevin's here."

I rolled my eyes. "Every second I am a Winchester, life becomes more and more weird...You guys said ghosts are afraid of you, but you're afraid a ghost will kill Sam?"

"Kevin is our friend," Cas objected. "We are trying to avoid sending Kevin away."

I had been a Winchester for a little under twenty four hours by this point, and so far, everything I had learned conflicted with something else.

Just then Dean walked in with a short Asian woman wearing a think metal ring around her finger. Which is cool, I guess, but I had always thought that those kinds of rings were stereotypically for guys, not tiny Asian women.

"Oh, Dean," she said, looking at me. "Is that Ada?"

Castiel nodded and Dean said, "Yep. That's our girl."

"Hi...?" I said hesitantly to the new person.

She hit herself in the head. "I nearly forgot! I'm Linda Tran. I'm a retired hunter, but I still like to come over and help the boys from time to time."

I was about to question how a woman of her size was supposed to save the world and hunt down monsters when she pulled a decently sized knife out of her boot and started sharpening it. I decided not to say anything. The air around us all chilled significantly. I reached for the salt that Sam had given me before he left.

Linda announced that she was going to see Sam, and she took off the ring and set it on the wooden table in the middle of the room, then left. I was left alone with Dean and Cas, and as I was about to find Kevin.

"Hey, guys," said a voice to my left and I looked over to see a man in his late twenty's sitting next to me. I jumped up in shock. He had short black hair, and strange scars around his almond shaped eyes. He turned to look towards me. "I'm Kevin. I am a ghost."

I told him that I already had that conversation with Castiel. He nodded and said that he figured.

Kevin and his mother pretty much ignored me after that. Mrs. Tran came back in from time to time, but whenever she did, she talked with Cas and Dean. Guess they all thought that I wasn't too young to know about everything, but I was too young to go out and fight it. Ugh...youth...what I would do to have it back...

They all discussed a couple of recent demon possessions about an hour away from Atlanta, Georgia. Dean said that it wasn't much, but it was the most activity they had seen in awhile, so he said they'd take the job. He thanked Linda and the tiny woman grabbed her iron ring and left the house.

Once Kevin and his mum were gone Sam came back and started to help Dean and Castiel pack up for the long road trip to the South. I went to my room and packed up my things, and put the mirror I had found earlier in my bag for no apparent reason other than I wanted to.

I entered the room where everyone else was with my luggage in hand, telling them I was ready to go. None of them would look me in the eye.

"I'm not going, am I?" I asked, sarcastically.

They all shook their heads.

"Sorry Ada," Sam told me softly, "but these are the first demons we have heard of in over a month. We don't know what to expect. You need to stay here in the bunker while we figure out what is going on in the supernatural world. It's just for a couple of days, I promise."

I thought about how that was the last thing that my real parents had said before they were brutally beaten to death when I was only three years old. Bad things happened when the words "I promise" are told to me. It's like the universe is set on making sure no one ever fulfills their agreement. Sometimes I hate my life...

I stomped my feet all the way back to my room as a came up with a plan in my mind. It slowly started to form, the took over completely.

I was going on that trip. And nothing was going to stop me.

Nothing.
