Mia blinked her eyes rapidly as the blur image in front of her slowly turned clearer. She found herself on a bed.
"I'm alive? Am I in a hospital? Who saved me? " she thought to herself.
Surprised and shocked, she slowly sat up on the bed, pushing away the blanket which she realized was her own.
"My favorite blue blanket!" Mia exclaimed. As she looked around, she realized that she was in her own room. She quickly glanced around the room again.
The door was closed, the curtains were drawn apart and tied with white strings, windows were open letting in the warm sunrays which now fell on her face, all the things were in place, drawers shut, pictures hung peacefully on the wall as if nothing happened and no sign of water anywhere.
"What happened with me? What just happened here?!" she thought. Out of no where she smelled the magical aroma of coffee, which made her head turn involuntarily towards the direction where it came from.
Eva stood there with two cups of coffee in her hands.
"Good morning Mia!" she said cheerfully, with a smile on her face.
Mia looked up to her. She wore a peach colored cardigan paired with black trousers. Her hair was tied up in a neat ponytail.
"Eva!!"
"Where were you all this time?!", Mia asked. This was the first question she picked out from the hundred questions she had in her head.
"Umm...I was making coffee." Eva replied, showing her the coffee cups.
"Coffee?"
Mia didn't wait, she could not stop herself from asking Eva all the questions which she could not contain in her head anymore.
"What's wrong with you Eva? How could you lock me in like that? I was all alone in the room in the dark. You don't know what happened after that. There was an earthquake and then this room was flooded with water. And I just drowned. I don't know what happened then, I think I became unconscious. Who saved me? Where did all the water go? What just happened??
Eva, why are you silent? I need answers!!" Mia said and stopped for a breath.
Taking the opportunity, Eva said, " Are you okay Mia? Looks like you've just had a terrible dream!"
"Dream! What are you saying Eva?," Mia asked, shocked.
"You were screaming and you looked terrified in your sleep." Eva said.
"What?"
"Yeah you were asleep and you were sleep talking! I even tried waking you up twice."
"Noo! This can't be true! There was water everywhere and the room was flooded. I was drowning and I almost died....and you say it was all a dream?!" Mia paused with a her mouth open in astonishment.
"Here, have some nice hot coffee, you'll feel better Mia," Eva said calmly.
Mia was so confused that she couldn't think of anything at that moment, so she quietly replied "Okay".
"So, What was all dream about? I can't wait to hear it from you!" Eva said, excitement evident in her voice as she handed Mia a nice hot cup of coffee and sat down on her chair.
Mia took the cup of coffee and placed it on the side table. She touched Eva's hand to make sure she was real, what if this was another dream!
Mia took a sip of coffee as her mind recollected all the events that took place in her dream, still not sure if it was a dream.
She started narrating what all had happened in her so called dream.
"Woah! New York! That's awesome!", Eva exclaimed excited.
" Yeah but it started raining in my dream, and I woke up to see that you were pouring water on me!" Mia told her.
"Ohh , so you had a dream in a dream!", said amused.
"Yeah I guess," Mia said still confused and continued.
" And then you just locked me in the room and left for school. I kept calling for you and banging the door, but you were gone. I was all alone in the dark room and...", Mia went on.
"The weather was stormy and it was raining heavily...There was an earthquake... Then the door opened all of a sudden and then I heard your voice but I couldn't find you. Then water flowed into the room...I was just trapped and so helpless...I was drowning and then the next thing I remember is waking up here now."
Eva was listening very keenly to her and was silent as her mind was busy analyzing what all Mia had told her.
"Eva? Were you even listening?" Mia asked her.
"Aah! It all makes sense now!" Eva said smiling.
"What?" Mia asked with an expressionless face.
" I told you that you looked very scared in your sleep. So I tried to wake you up. So I first shook you hard, but you didn't wake up. Then I poured a glass of water on your face. But you still didn't wake up. So I just thought of letting you sleep for some more time." Eva stopped for a moment and continued-
"When I shook you, that seemed like an earthquake and when I poured water on you that turned out to be a flood in your dream! What an imagination! You are an amazing dreamer Mia!"
Eva barely finished her sentence before bursting out with laughter.
Mia stared at Eva in shock. "Dare you ever wake me up like that again!" Mia said seriously to Eva who was still laughing. Mia picked up a pillow and threw it towards Eva, which hit directly on her face.
"Don't start a pillow fight now!" Eva said, as she threw the pillow back towards Mia.
After spending around five minutes throwing pillows at each other, the pillow fight finally ended, which left them both laughing.
Suddenly Mia remembered about the English Assignment and she asked Eva about it.
"Oh Mia it's Saturday today. We have to submit it on Monday. Looks like you are still very afraid of Mrs. Lee after what happened that day."
"Yeah but thank God, I still have a day to finish it then," Mia sighed.
Mia looked at the clock. It was 9 am. She got up to go and get ready to begin a new day after a terrifying dream. All the events of the dream flashed in her head like a song played on repeat.
Mia stopped and turned back towards Eva and said,
"Please don't ever leave me alone like you did in my dream."
Eva gave her tight hug and said "Why would I ever do that? We're are sisters forever Mia!"
"Promise?"
"Promise."
