Mia stood frozen at the same spot for a few minutes, letting her eyes get accommodated to the darkness. In some time could now faintly see the furniture around in the room. It was indeed a miserable beginning of the day for Mia.
The weather was stormy outside. Dark clouds filled the sky. The wind blew into their room through the window. The windows kept swaying and hitting each other with 'thud' sounds.
The cold air touched Mia's face and she looked in the direction of the windows.
The howling wind moved the long white curtains in their room and raised them high up and then down.
Chills crept down her spine. The room looked like a shooting set for a horror movie. She hated horror films in the first place, and now felt like she was the protagonist of one. She didn't dare to walk all the way across the room and shut the windows, though they were only about ten steps away.
The white curtains appeared like ghosts to her. She stumbled upon the side table and somehow managed not to fall.
Her heart almost skipped a beat when she heard another loud crash of the windows. She trembled out of fear. She was really scared. She wished Eva was with her. But Eva was the one who locked her in, leaving her all alone.
She kept looking at the curtains flying like ghosts in her room, even though she didn't want to. Her eyes involuntarily looked at them.
But ghosts suddenly reminded her of...
Mrs. Ghost.
Mrs. Gousten!
Mrs. Gousten, their hostel warden had spare keys for all the rooms!
She thought herself to be an idiot to forget that she could have just called up Mrs. Gousten!
She had completely forgotten about her phone. She forgot that a device called a mobile phone exists in this world.
"Where's my phone now? Umm where did keep it now..", she talked to herself. She checked her study table, the side table, and her shelf. But she couldn't find it. She searched everywhere possible but was unsuccessful.
Eva always told her to keep her things in place.
Eva was just like her mom.
She had the same eyes as her mother. Mia remembered her parents. She felt so helpless without her sister. She was all alone now.
"What will I do now?", she asked herself, as a drop of tear rolled down her right cheek. She leaned against the door and sat down on the floor crestfallen.
Her eyes fell upon their family photo frames which hung on the wall next to the door. She saw four smiling faces in all of them. They were the family pictures they clicked when they were kids, in the living room of their lovely home.
Their family photos which hung on the wall.
Currently, her parents who were geneticists, were in Tokyo for their global project of advanced DNA research work.
Their parents' job forced them to travel across the globe to different countries to meet different people and do their research work. They had to travel to a new country every six months. They couldn't take care of their daughters because of their work and they didn't want to disturb their education.
So they got them admitted into the world's best residential school, which was in their native country.
The United School, an international school with its branches all over the world. It was an all girls school with the hostel and mess facilities. They wouldn't have traveling or food problem. It had all kind of sports facilities and extra-curricular activities. They provide a lot of opportunities for students to learn.
It had everything they wished for daughters' education.
They were in 8th grade when they joined their new school. Initially it was very difficult for Mia to adjust living in the hostel and getting all things done by herself, but Eva was the one who helped her with everything.
Though they were of the same age, Mia always felt like Eva was her elder sister. Mia was afraid of living away from their parents. But Eva took care of all her needs, just like her mother did. Mia was more close to her sister than her parents now.
In four years, the bond between the sisters had grown deeper. Four years seemed like infinite number of years then, but time flew. The only person she could always trust in the whole world was Eva. She was her best friend.
Stronger cool wind blew in and Mia's hair spread on her face. She didn't mind. The windows kept shattering and the curtains were flying, but she didn't notice them anymore.
The only thought in her mind was,"How could Eva lock me like that? how could she do this to her own sister? How could she...", thought Mia, shifting her eyes from the family photo frame to the wooden floor. She closed her eyes sadly, more tears started to roll down her cheeks. Her crying soon turned into sobbing.
"Mia?"
Out of no where she heard a voice. She wasn't sure if she a heard it or imagined it.
"Mia?" repeated a familiar voice, now louder than before.
It was Eva's voice from the other side of the door.
Mia stopped crying, and stood up at once.
"Eva?" she asked, still not sure.
"What happened to you?,"said the Eva's voice.
"Eva is that you? Please open the door!", Mia cried out to her.
"Why are you crying, Mia? What's wrong?", replied Eva.
"Open the door, Eva!!" Mia screamed. She then started banging the door.
"What door Mia?," asked Eva.
