Previously on Chapter 8

"Please forgive me..." He whispers. I look down but not at him "I forgive you. But... I need time to accept you back" I say pulling my hand away. I walk away but before I reach the stairs, I turn around and look at him. He looks back at me with a sad expression. "I love you, Carl" I say, gently. His eyes widened in respond. But before he could say anything else, I'm already out.

Y/N P.O.V

It's been a week since I last have conversation with Carl. The past week, Carl didn't leave me alone. He keeps showing up around me.

To be honest, I still love him. I did forgive him, but.... He betrayed me, not once but twice. For this very reason, makes me afraid to give him another chance. I don't want to get hurt again.

I woke up in the morning, since it's my turn to watch in the tower. So I get up from my bed, I head to the bathroom to get ready for the day.

After I'm done, I pick my weapons and make my way to the watch tower. Along the way, I would occasionally greet people as I pass by them.

After a while of walking, I finally reach the watch tower. We work in pair. I was paired up with Thomas (A/N: he's not from The Maze Runner. But you could think he is if you one. This book is about you after all).

I can see the familiar brunette boy as I get to the watch tower. "Hi Thomas! Good Morning" I greet him with a small smile on my face. He turns around and saw me. "Oh hey Y/N! Good morning to you too" he said. He's using the binocular to watch over. I walk up next to him "so... Anything new?" I asks. "Nothing much, just the same stupid walkers walking around" he said. I hummed in respond.

After a while. Thomas decide to break the silent that have last for quite some time. "So... I heard you and Carl..." He said, but he didn't finished the sentence. "What?" I asks him. "Um... I heard you guys are together... But some also said, that you've broken up" He said. I sigh "it's complicated...." I said. "How come?" He asks. I look at him "every time we got together... There would always something to break us apart" I said. "I see..." He whispers. Then there's another moment of silent. "So... Are you gonna give him a chance this time?" He asks. I turn to look at him, then I look away. "I don't know, really... My heart said yes... My my mind said no.... People said mind is wise, but my heart loves Carl and wanted to be with him.... So, I don't know which one should I listen to" I said. I know why Thomas is asking about this. I knew he have feelings for me, I just pretend to not realise it.

"Well... That's hard... How about you give another people a chance. Another people who would loves you and take care of you, without hurting you" Thomas said, suddenly. I turn to him. "I'm not sure.... I just don't want to take a risk of getting hurt again" I said. He looks down, I can see the flash of disappointment in his eyes.

"What if I promised you that I won't ever hurt you, Y/N..." He said, looking at me. I look at him in surprise with my eyes widen slightly.

Thomas isn't the type of person to say something straight forwardly. So to hear him say that out of the blue is catching me off guard. Then my eyes soften, I just give him a smile.

"Don't make promises you can't keep, Thomas" I said. He shook his head "no, Y/N. I'm positive that I could keep my promise" he said. I look at his eyes and see no lies.

Then I look away. "I'm sorry, Thomas..... I need some time for this" I said. Then I feel a hand on top of mine. I look down at the hand, then up at the person. Thomas is looking at me with a soft smile "I understand Y/N.... I've felt what it's like to be in pain from a broken heart.... I know what they felt like. So I can wait. I'll wait for you, until you're ready to answer me..." he said. I shook my head "Don't wait for me, Thomas.... I don't want you to wait, only to feel disappointment when I told you that I couldn't be with you..." I said. He shook his head, then cup my cheeks. "There's no love.... without a sacrifice. I'm willing to wait for you..." he said.

Thomas P.O.V

I meant everything I've said. I'm in love with Y/N. She might not remember me... But I do. Y/N and I used to go to a same school, we were best friends back then. I've love since I first met her. But then she has to move away because her dad got a new job. A year have passed. Then I heard she have a car accident and lost her memories.

She forgot about me and our friendship. It makes my heart shatter when the news reach my ears. Then the first outbreak happen. I lost hope... I always thought that Y/N is gone or she has become one of them. One of those monster that now dominate the world.

I'm so happy when I found out that she's still alive. Now she's here with me, I'm not gonna let her go ever again.

Time-skip

It was now lunch time. Y/N and I makes our way to the dining room. We would talk about random things along the way there.

When we get there. I notice she's staring at a certain direction. I follow her gaze, to see her looking at Carl. They are making an eye contact. In Y/N's eyes, I can see the longing in them. I can feel that Y/N is still in love with Carl.

Do I even have a chance at all?

Y/N P.O.V

We are sitting in the dining room as we feast on our meals. I sit with Thomas on my right, Carl is sitting on my left. He still didn't leave me alone. He's so determine to get me back.

"Alright! May I have your attention please" I heard someone said. I turn my attention to the speaker. "We'll be having a new member to our group... Please welcome them" said the speaker. I turn my head to look at the direction she's pointing at, to see a group of people walking in.

My eyes widened as they landed on a certain person. "A-Alex....." I stutter. I can feel Carl getting tense next to me.

Alex's eyes landed on me and he smiles. "Y/N..." He said. I quickly get up and run to him. He welcomes me in his arms and hugs me tightly. "You're alive..." I whispers, hugging him tightly. He hugs me back just as tight.

Then I pull away. "H-how?" I asks him. "I don't know baby.... All I know is waking up in a room filled with kind hearted people" he said. Then he moves aside to let me see the person. My eyes widened once again. The person's eyes also widened when they landed on me. I run to him "dad!" I yelled and hug him. He hugs me back just as tight "oh my sweet... Sweet Y/N. It's so good to see you.... You're alive..." He whispers. "It's so good to see you too, daddy" I said.

Then my dad turn to look at Alex. "Well.... You and Y/N knows each other?" He asks. Alex turn to me and smile "yeah, we do sir... We know each other well... Really well" he said. "It's a small world after all... The boy I rescued a year ago, turns out to be my daughter's lover" Dad said with a chuckle. I giggle in respond. Then I stop as I realise something.

What did I get myself into? Carl... Thomas... And now Alex? Oh shit....
