Halloween.

"Hello?"

"Charles."

"Mom?  What do you want?"

"I-I wanted to speak to you.
I want to apologize."

"For what?  For treating my wife badly?  For completely ignoring my son?  You've never even met him, mom!"

"I know, I know.. I'm sorry.
We're having Thanksgiving here at the house this year.  I'd really like it if you, Maddie and the baby could make it.  I realize that I'm wrong, and I'm sorry."

"I'll talk to Maddie.  If she doesn't feel comfortable then no, we will not be there.  And I wouldn't blame her one bit if she didn't want to see you.
It's different now.  Not only are you being hateful to her, but you're being hateful with our son.
I know for a fact, Maddie will kill before she lets anyone mistreat her baby."

"I won't mistreat him, Charles."

Chip takes a short pause.
"I'll speak with her.  Goodbye, mom."

"Wait, Chip!"

Chip didn't care what his mother had to say and hung up.

"Say I'm ready for candy, daddy!" Maddie walks into the living room with Lorenzo.

Chip turns when he hears his wife.

"Oh HEYYY!  Look at you, buddy!" Chip chuckles.

"Your spaghetti and meatballs is served, daddy!"

"This is so adorable!"

"Right? Mama just wants to eat him up!" Maddie baby talks and kisses his chubby cheek, making him laugh hysterically.

"You're gonna be a hit at the party, bud!"

"Chip, honey.. about that..
Maybe you two should go and I stay."

"Why, baby? You feel alright?"

"Yeah.. it's just.. I don't know if I'll fit in.."

"Of course you will! Some of the wives of the guys I work with just had babies as well! You'll have so much to talk about with them!"

"I'm sure they're all twenty years younger than me, Chip.. I'll feel too uncomfortable."

"Maddieeee.." Chip hums.
"This is Lorenzo's first Halloween. You can't miss it, baby! We can just stay home or go out to dinner if you don't want to go to the party."

"No, no, I'll go. You've been looking forward to it."

"But I don't want to go if you don't want to."

"I'll be fine."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah." Maddie smiles softly. "I promise."

"Okay.  Well go put your chef costume on so everyone knows we're the ones who made this little meatball!" Chip says taking the baby.

"Okay!" Maddie laughs.

"Dave! You remember my wife, Maddison, don't you?"

"Yes! It is a pleasure to see you again, Mrs. Martinez." He smiles and shakes her hand.

"Nice to see you." Maddie smiles.

"And the little guy!" Dave chuckles.

"Yes, this is Lorenzo! Say Hi, Enzo!"

Lorenzo smiles and hits his hands on his mother's shoulder.

"He's adorable! Well you all make yourselves at home. There's food and drinks in there. Go crazy, kids!" He chuckles.

"Thanks, Dave." Chip smiles.

"That's the boss. He really likes me, babe." He whispers.

"That's great, honey! Maybe you'll get that promotion you've been wanting." Maddie smiles and fixes his costume.

"I hope so! Then I can spoil you two even more!"

"Aw baby.."

"Come here, let me introduce you to some of the wives!"

"Oh honey, I'm fine!"

"No, come on! It'll be fun." Chip smiles.

Maddie looks at him and sighs.
She really didn't feel comfortable but, she was going to do it for her husband.

"Hey it's Chip!" One of his co workers says.

"HEYYY! You guys, this is my beautiful wife, Maddie, and this is our son, Lorenzo."

"Oh isn't he adorable?!" One of wives says.
She was about Maddie's age.

Soon the guys broke away and the women stayed there talking.

"All these babies! I just can't wait till my little sugar arrives!" A woman with a thick Texas accent said.

"When are you due?" Maddie asks.

"November fourteenth!"

"Oh wow! It's close, huh?"

"Yeah! I'm ready for him to come out Now!" The girl laughs.

"Oh I totally understand how you feel!" Maddie says. "At the end of my pregnancy with Lorenzo, I was begging him to Just Get Out!" She laughs.

"Oh you had him yourself?" The young girl asks.

"Uh.. Yeah!"

"I just assumed he was adopted! Oh! Well that's so great!"

"I can't imagine going through pregnancy now at my age!" The woman around Maddie's age said.

"I had all my kids twenty something years ago!
Is he your first?"

"Yes he is. My ex husband couldn't have children.. he came as a surprise shortly after Chip and I got married. He's a blessing and we're both so grateful we get to experience this with such an amazing little boy."

"That's great, honey!" She smiles.

Maddie smiles softly and nods.

"Will you have any more?"

"Oh no. Just the one." She chuckles.

"That young man loves this little boy! I know he'd love another! You can just see it in his eyes!"

"Oh.. well I don't know, we haven't really talked about another baby since Lorenzo came."

Just then Lorenzo starts to fuss.
Maddie was thrilled. Finally an excuse to get the hell out of there!

"Excuse me, ladies. He needs to be fed." Maddie says grabbing the diaper bag.

"Of course! You can go into my bedroom if you'd like. That way if he falls asleep, you can just leave him on the bed." The woman smiles.

"Perfect! Thank you." Maddie said with a friendly smile.

Maddie carried Lorenzo down the hall as he cried.

"Amazing timing, little dude." She says patting his chubby thigh.

"WAAAAHHH!"

"Oh I know, honey. I know!" Maddie baby talks.
"We're almost there, love. Holy shit, this house is huge!"

Finally Maddie made it to the bedroom.
She shut the door and sat her things down on the bed.

"Mama's comin, mama's comin..
There we go. Better now?" Maddie giggles as Lorenzo holds her breast in his hand and eats like he was starving.

Maddie slowly rocks him and gently pats his bottom.
"Oh Lorenzo.. mommy's old.
I mean not super old but, old for a new mommy!
I just hope you won't be embarrassed of me when you're older. Because I may be.. more mature than most mom's.. but I have more love then all of them combined!"

Maddie then began to cry.
"... I don't know if daddy wants more kids.. I guess it isn't fair that you don't have a little playmate, huh? Once daddy and I are gone.. then it's just you. That's not fair. I mean, I would love another baby.. but am I being selfish? What if something were to happen?
Oh gosh, I just don't know!"

Maddie sniffles and looks down to her baby boy.
"You're a very good listener, Lorenzo." She giggles.

Just then they hear a knock on the door.

"Oh uh, just a second!" Maddie quickly tries covering herself.

"It's me, baby."

"Oh! Come in, honey." Maddie relaxes and wipes her tears.

Chip walks in and smiles at the sight.
His beautiful wife and their son at her breasts.

"I was wondering where you snuck off to."

"He was hungry and, Betsy said we could come in here."

"That's nice of her."

"Yeah.."

All this time Maddie was avoiding eye contact, and Chip noticed.

"Honey?"

"Yeah?"

"Look at me, love." Chip gently grabs her Chip.

Maddie took a deep breath and looked up.
She smiled softly trying to hide her sadness.

"Are you okay? Were you crying?"

"... No." Maddie's voice cracks.

"Yes you were. What's wrong?"

"I'm sorry I'm old." She says as tears escape her.

"What?! You're not old!"

"I'm too old to give you all the babies we want!
I'm too old to fit in with your work friends' wives!
Maybe I'm too old to be your wife." Maddie says, tears continuing to roll down her cheeks.

"Baby girl, no!  You're not too old for any of that!
What happened? You were fine just a little while ago."

"Nothing.. they were all just so shocked that I birth to Lorenzo.  They act like I'm eighty years old!" Maddie's cries even harder.

Chip rubs her back and let's her finish.

"Chip, do you want another baby?" Maddie looks into his eyes.

"I want what you want, Maddie."

"That wasn't my question. Do You want another baby?"

"Honey, I answered. I want what you want.
If you don't then no! I'm perfectly fine with having our one perfect little man!" Chip says gently caressing his son's cheek.

"If you do, then put that baby to bed and let's get started!" He chuckles.

"Do you want another baby?" Chip asks.

Maddie looks down to Lorenzo, then back up to Chip with tears slowly rolling down her cheeks.
She nods her head and says, "I do. I don't want him to be alone. I don't want to be selfish but, I want another one, Chip!  I want one more little boy.. or maybe a girl!  I want another baby!"

Chip smiles. "I was hoping that's what you'd say."

"Really?"

"Yeah! I love you so much! I love Lorenzo more than the whole world. I want to create another life with you, Maddison Marino."

"There will be risks."

"There were risks the last time.  There will always be risks for every pregnancy.
But everything was fine!  Plus, we will love this baby no matter what."

Maddie nods her head. "Yes.  Yes we will!" She smiles.

Chip smiles. "We're trying?"

"We're trying to get pregnant!" Maddie giggles.

"I love you."

"I love you!"

Chip then locks lips with Maddie's.

"Eh!  Ahh!" Lorenzo fusses.

Maddie pulls away and laughs.
"Daddy, you're squishing him!"

"Oh I'm sorry, bud!"

Maddie then sits Lorenzo on her lap and fixes her top.

"Daddy got a little excited with the baby making plan!"

"I noticed!" Maddie chuckles.

"Oh come on, you were ready for it!"

"Not in this bed, fool!"

Chip laughs then looks at the baby.
"Do you want to be a big brother, Lorenzo?"

"Do you think he's too little, honey?  I mean, I know my biological clock is ticking but.. will he be okay?"

"I think so!  I mean it's not like the baby will be here tomorrow!"

"Heh!  That's true."

Chip looks at Maddie and smiles.
"Come on.  Let get out of here, Meatball."

"Ahh!" Lorenzo squeals and giggles loudly.

"You're Little Meatball!  Don't get jealous." Chip says.

Maddie giggles.
"He really is just perfect, isn't he?"

"He is!  Look at that cute face!" Chip grabs his cheeks.

"Haha!  Chip, watch it, he's gonna get mad!"

"Ah, he loves it!" Chip says as Lorenzo cracks up.
