adj. confused and disconcerted

AVELINA WOKE UP with Adrik's arm wrapped around her waist. Sometimes, he would go into her room and place himself on her bed while she slept. Avelina had gotten used to the treatment after the second time he had done it only because it always managed to wake her up with a smile on her face.

"Morning, Adrik," she muttered when she felt him move slightly. Her eyes moved over to him where he lifted his head from the pillow with his eyes closed just before letting his head plop down once more. She couldn't help but laugh.

With that, she moved to get up but was pulled right back down into Adrik's warmth. She didn't know how he ended up on top of her, but there he was. His head nestled its way into her neck as his eyes remained shut. Avelina didn't exactly know how to respond except for running her hand up and down his bareback. She found herself tracing every muscle.

"You're usually the one being punctual and waking me up. Since when have things changed?" Avelina questioned, a smile coating her lips. Her smile quickly went away as she felt his lips grazing her neck. Immediately, she tensed up when she felt him kiss her skin. It felt so good but she knew it was so wrong.

"Adrik," she whispered out. He must've taken that for validation because he had gone from kissing her neck to sucking her skin-possibly giving her a hickey. Her hand fisted his long strands of hair as he moved lower from her neck to the top of her breasts.

Her eyes were quick to shut in delight while he continued to kiss lower and lower down her body. Her lower region was throbbing. It was just pulsating in need and hunger.

Her back arched when he slipped his hand into her shorts and pressed his finger against her panties right over her soaked area. He began to rub her up and down while his lips never stopped their manipulations on her body.

When his other hand moved to the hem of her shorts, she knew things were going way too far.

"Adrik, stop," she told him.

He pulled away from her, his eyes staring into hers. She didn't know what he was trying to say but could tell he was frustrated.

"Look, Adrik-"

"No," he let out. She felt her shoulders fall with a sad look on her face. He shook his head just before exiting the bedroom and leaving her all alone.

Avelina tried to contemplate if she should just leave him alone for a moment or talk to him about what just happened.

With a sigh, she decided to go after him. As soon as she opened her door, he was already there.

"I don't understand why you're mad at me," she said. He looked away from her in response.

"I am not particularly mad. My heart feels broken," he told her in such a nonchalant tone. The tension in her face eased as she looked at Adrik. She was always having a constant internal battle that she was fighting with herself-hold him or only do her job.

"Why does your heart feel broken?" She asked sadly, her hand coming up to his face. She could feel her own heartbreaking as he pushed her hand from his face and let it fall back to her side.

"You do not want me," he spoke in such a monotone voice.

She only sighed in response. She didn't know what she wanted. Not only did she work for him, but he also did illegal things as a side-business which wasn't something she would ever want to get involved in. Although, he was charming, honest, and never failed to make her laugh which is why she always wanted to pull him close.

"That's not true. We're friends, Adrik," she told him. The way he moved back a little and turned his head away, Avelina could see how he looked even more rejected despite the fact he didn't exactly show it with his facial expression.

"Okay," he told her, walking away from her door.

He wanted to tell her that he didn't want to be friends. She was all he could think about and he had never felt like that with anyone else. It was like he couldn't feel any judgments escaping her like he could with everyone else. He was a beast and she was his beauty, but this wasn't a fairytale. For Adrik, there wasn't a happily ever after.

He walked into his room and shut his door in frustration. His body felt like it was shaking but he knew it was only in his mind. His mind always managed to figure things out, but no matter how hard he tried to figure out Avelina, he couldn't.

Adrik no longer wanted to keep trying because every time it seemed like they were close to something, she'd shut him down.

"Adrik," Avelina's voice spoke softly as she knocked on the door.

Despite how much he hated himself for it, he opened the bedroom door and looked down into Avelina's piercing blue eyes. Her eyes were the only eyes he could ever remember seeing. The blue of them seemed to pull him in and shut the rest of the world out.

"Avelina," he responded.

"I don't like this place that we're in right now. I'm not saying that I don't care for you because you know that I do. What I am trying to say is that maybe when I'm no longer your care-provider in two more months, then we should try to be something more. Who knows?" she laughed off before continuing, "maybe you'll be tired of me by then."

'I would never be tired of you,' he thought.

"Okay," he told her. She laughed softly before wrapping her arms around him and pulling him into an embrace. Her head rested on his chest and he found himself loving every time she managed to hold him close. He hated hugs more than he hated Johnathan, but with Avelina, they were his favorite things in the world.

To him, the hug ended way too quickly. He watched as she pulled away from him with a huge smile on her face. He loved it when she smiled, it fit her so perfectly. Everything about Avelina was mesmerizing, but it was especially her smile.

"Come downstairs for breakfast. You are supposed to eat in exactly-oh crap! Ten minutes!" She let out as her eyes widened. Adrik only watched her as she quickly ran away from the door. He listened to the sound of her loud footsteps as she raced to her bedroom.

He slowly closed his door and walked into his bathroom where he prepared himself by brushing his teeth, his hair, and shaving.

Avelina, on the other hand, had run into her room where she focused on brushing her teeth while also throwing her hair up in a ponytail at the same time. After everything was done occurring, she raced into the kitchen. Avelina knew Adrik's neat-freak tendencies were going to hate her for spitting toothpaste into the kitchen sink, but she didn't care. She had to make sure he ate his breakfast on time.

When she was almost finished making his food, Adrik entered the kitchen, but only this time, he had a shirt on. She gleamed at him happily just as her phone began to ring.

"Hey, can you get that?" She asked him as her attention turned back to the food at hand.

"Hello?" He answered. Avelina couldn't help but smile at him.

There was a long pause and it sounded like there was screaming on the phone. Avelina's eyebrows pulled together as she turned off the stove and placed the food in a bowl just before handing it to Adrik.

"I am not interested," Adrik said, clearing his voice. Avelina grabbed the phone from him and laughed as she realized he was talking to Miss Paola.

"Miss Paola!" Avelina exclaimed.

"No, no. Put the man back on the phone. I may be old but I will show you how this old woman can go to town! He sounds sexy, too. That nice sexy accent-ouu," Miss Paola moaned said into the phone. Avelina's jaw dropped slightly.

"What is he-Russian?" She asked. Avelina nodded her head, her eyes going over to Adrik. She then realized that Miss Paola couldn't see her and decided to clear her throat.

"Yes, um, something like that," Avelina told her.

"OH, MAN! Oh, man! Oh man, oh man'. That's the guy you left me for? I can't even be mad at you. I'd drop my old a*s like a bad habit if I got to take care of a Russian! I heard they're a freak in the sheets," Miss Paola sang.

Adrik cleared his throat in response to what the woman was saying. Avelina's cheeks coated a light pink at the realization that Adrik could hear the loud and inappropriate woman.

Avelina took a few steps away from Adrik to keep him from hearing any more of Miss Paola's embarrassing words.

"You find a new caregiver yet?" Avelina asked her to stir the conversation away from Adrik.

"I sure did. They gave me a man to take care of me this time. Whoever is at the head of the company..." Miss Paola began. Avelina could only roll her eyes as she thought of the person who was at the head of the care agency-Johnathan. "...They sure did give me some luck. I got a young fine man to take of me."

"Oh?" Avelina asked, very much intrigued.

"Yes and-," Miss Paola began once again but cut herself off as the sound of her slapping something echoed through the phone's speakers. "He has a nice round booty, too."

"Did you just smack his butt?" Avelina asked. Avelina was laughing so hard and couldn't stop the snort that escaped her lips.

"Yes. I. Did," she said.

"You might be happy now, but wait until he files a sexual misconduct complaint," Avelina told her.

"You're so boring. Is that why you haven't jumped on Mr. Russian's PP yet? If you don't want to do it, you know I will. Tell that boy that if he ever wants someone who loves to break the rules, I'm only a call away," Miss Paola told her with the flirtiest voice she could muster. All Avelina could do was smile and shake her head.

As much as Avelina wanted to continue speaking to Miss Paola, the doorbell had rung. Her smile had transformed itself into a frown.

"Okay, Miss Paola. I'll let him know. I have to go now, but we will talk later. Bye, and tell your care provider that I wish him the best of luck," Avelina chuckled.

"Don't you forget to call me," Miss Paola said just before hanging up the phone. Avelina smiled at the conversation they just had. She then placed her phone into her pocket and headed towards the door.

The second she pulled it open, her smile grew even more.

"Jordan!" She said. He air-kissed both sides of her face once more before handing her a long black bag. She couldn't wait to see what it looked like and made sure her anticipation was as clear as day on her face.

"I have to go now, but we will be seeing more of each other soon, honey. I hope the wedding is delightful," Jordan winked. She watched him bidding his goodbye by wiggling his fingers.

"Ta-ta, Miss Avelina!" He exclaimed.

"Bye!" She returned happily. The second he got into his vehicle, she shut the door and walked over to the couch where she sat the bag down. She didn't waste any time removing the cover and gleaming at the beautiful dress that was laid out in front of her. It was a sparkly gold gown. She already knew she was going to love it the second she puts it on.

Avelina could feel someone's eyes on her, so she turned only to see Adrik staring at her. He was leaning against the door frame with his arms crossed just before he moved to get a better look at the dress.

"Did you pick it out for me?" She asked, hoping that it was him who picked it out and not Zaria. For some reason, she would feel better knowing that it was he who picked out her dress only because it solely reminded him of her.

"Yes," he answered. She nodded her head and tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. As much as she tried to hide her blush, it still made its way there and she knew he could see it.

"I love it. Thank you," she told him. His hand grazed her hip when he placed himself beside her.

"We have to leave for the wedding in two hours. Please be sure you are ready."
