AVELINA FOLLOWED ANTON out of the room but not without sparing one last glance to Adrik who continued to busy himself with his piano. She couldn't stop herself from frowning just before her eyes traveled back to what was in front of her as she walked.
Anton walked her to the couch in the living room where he sat her down. She looked over at him patiently in wait as he sat down right beside her. The conversation seemed very serious, so she was quick to put on her game face.
"Speaking for Mr. Zolotov is really simple. Most of the people in the office know what to do in order to stay out of Mr. Zolotov's way. The only times he will need help speaking is for certain gatherings with large amounts of people and loud noises, but in private meetings, he practically speaks for himself. All you have to do when you talk for him is say the things that people want to hear in order to get the conversation to end as quickly as possible," he explained. Her brows knotted together in confusion as she processed his words.
"I know it may seem complicated, but once you start, you will be very fast to get the hang of it," he stated.
"I didn't realize I would be going to the office with him," Avelina said softly as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. He smiled gently at her before nodding his head in response.
"Yes, you start today. Mr. Zolotov's personal assistant, Zaria Kensley, will be there to help you every step of the way," he said. Avelina nodded her head slowly until she realized that he had said a woman's name. For some reason she couldn't help but wonder if Adrik was more communicative to all women in general, or if it was just Avelina that he was comfortable around.
"I don't think I have any business attire," Avelina told him as she glanced down at her clothing. She found herself biting down on her lip as her eyes returned to Anton.
"Zaria already made sure to pick out some clothes for you to wear," Anton told her. She nodded her head with a tight-lipped smile as she stood up from the couch.
"Wait, how does she know my size?" Avelina questioned.
"Your clothing had to go through our security just to make sure you weren't housing anything that could cause danger. It's possible she checked for your size during that time," he said with a small shrug. Avelina opened her mouth to say something, but decided to just let it go.
She didn't know that the security had checked through her clothes. It was bizarre how she didn't anticipate it seeing as she was staying with a very rich man who, as they said, had a lot of enemies.
"Where are the clothes?" she questioned, glancing around the room just to make sure it wasn't hiding in plain sight.
"It should now be in your closet. Be ready in one hour, you will be leaving with Mr. Zolotov," he said. She nodded her head and headed up the stairs where she entered her bedroom.
The second she walked into her closet, she spotted the attire very easily. One thing she had always hated most was businesswear. It made her feel like she was trying too hard to be something she wasn't. Not to mention the fact that it always managed to be itchy.
She picked up the pearl dress that literally screamed how expensive it was. A frown made its way onto her face as she stared down at it. Then, she found herself looking at the plain black pencil skirt. Placing the dress back into the closet, she replaced it with the skirt where she was quick to take off her clothes and place it on.
It had to be two sizes too small. The fabric was hugging her body and leaving no space to breathe. It didn't leave absolutely anything for the imagination. With the frown still on her face, she eyed the dress once more.
It was either she could wear the dress or the skirt. Sighing, she decided to just wear the tight skirt as her finger skimmed through the hangers in search of a shirt to wear. When her eyes settled on a plain white blouse, she couldn't help herself from groaning in annoyance.
She already felt uncomfortable and she wasn't even wearing the whole outfit yet. Placing the shirt on, she began to button it up. As she worked with the buttons, she could only hope that Adrik wouldn't call the shirt she decided to wear a 'napkin' again.
Once she finished, she looked around her closet once more until she found a pair of heels that were a decent height. As soon as she slid them on, she made her way to restroom where she fixed up her hair by leaving it down in its normal state.
After she was done with everything, she walked out of her bedroom and made her way down the stairs. The first thing she noticed was Anton who was waiting patiently for her at the bottom of the stairs. She gave him a small smile as his eyes seemed to unintentionally roam her body. He was quick to clear his throat and look away.
"Mr. Zolotov is waiting for you in the car," he spoke.
Avelina nodded her head before following Anton out of the door. She looked on both sides of the door to see guards staring into the space straight in front of them. At first it kind of left her to question why there were guards literally guarding the entrance of Adrik's home, but then she quickly realized that he probably needs the protecting. She can recall being told that money means power and power brings enemines.
She stepped out of the house and continued to follow Anton towards the all black BMW where he opened the door for her to enter. The second she peeked inside, she noticed Adrik was sitting there with sunglasses perched on his face. He was quick to turn his attention towards her just as she sat down on the cool leather seats right beside the notorious Adrik Zolotov.
"Hi there," she smiled at Adrik who only continued to watch her. Anton was quick to shut the door behind Avelina just before the driver pulled off down the road.
"I'm kind of nervous. I've never worked at a big office before," she admitted as he looked away from her and glanced out of the window. She couldn't help but frown as she watched the way his sunglasses seemed to sit on the bridge of his nose. Her eyes strayed down to the curve of his nose to the plumpliness of his lips. She couldn't stop herself from licking her own lips that seemed to dry out.
"Do you have any advice?" She questioned only to rid her brain of the thoughts that couldn't stop themselves from barging in. Usually, she managed to be very good at handling her desires. With him, it was like he didn't have to try at all. He could make her feel a certain way just by sparing her a glance.
"Zaria will help you," the driver spoke randomly. She looked over at him and realized that he was speaking for Adrik. It was something she would have to do very soon. When her eyes shifted over to glance at Adrik once more, she picked up on how he had already been looking at her.
"Zaria, I believe Anton told me about her," Avelina said, her eyebrows coming together at the mentioning of her name once more. It left a small pang in her chest that she couldn't quite describe the reasonings behind it.
"Yes, she is Mr. Zolotov's personal assistant. She is actually one of the only few people that work really well with our don- excuse me, I meant boss," he said. Avelina couldn't deny the way her mouth seemed to form it's own frown. She had only hoped that Adrik wasn't still watching her.
"Very well then," she smiled. Suddenly, she turned her head and Adrik seemed to be mere inches away from her face. Her eyes instinctively dropped to his lips before running back up to his eyes to gaze into his covered eyes. She could feel her heartbeat increasing as he leaned closer and closer.
Soon, her eyes seemed to shut slowly on their own accord as he kept moving towards her. All of the sudden, he moved past her lips and toward her ear where he allowed his soft lips to graze her skin.
"The fact that you claim you don't want me seems a bit ambiguous now, Avelina. Jealously is so evident on your features and the way you crossed your legs when you were staring at me only a minute ago really grabbed my attention. Even now, your brow is slightly raised which you do only when you are trying so hard to not think about me," he whispered lightly.
As he pulled away, she couldn't help but release the tension in her brow. He was right, it was slightly raised.
"Adrik," she murmured in an exhale. He turned away from her and glanced out the window leaving her in her own thoughts. No matter how hard she tried, her eyes always managed to look at him. He was wearing a black suit that hugged his body perfectly. She was sure that he could look good in anything, but the suit made him look absolutely panty-dropping.
After a few moments, they pulled into the front of a gigantic building. She had to crane her neck to the farthest of its ability just to gaze up at the top of it. Adrik had gotten out just as the driver had retreated from his seat as well. The man quickly opened Avelina's door just as Adrik made his way over to her where he placed his arm around her waist and helped her out of the car.
"You don't think this looks a bit unprofessional?" Avelina asked. Adrik didn't say a word or even glance at her just as flashes began to go off from all over the place. Avelina's jaw dropped due to the crowds of people that appeared out of nowhere. They were shouting all types of questions that left her completely flabbergasted.
"Mr. Zolotov, is that your girlfriend?"
"Who are you?"
"Is she your long lost sister?"
That caused Avelina to stop dead in her tracks. Her mind tried to grasp what he meant by 'long lost sister'? She couldn't figure out if he was just saying whatever would get his article to sell, or if there was a sister of Adrik's who was truly out there that no one had heard from.
Adrik was quick to grip her waist and walk her into the building. She looked behind her at the reporter who had asked the question to see his ginger hair and thick-framed glasses perched on his nose. Her eyebrows pulled together in confusion as she watched him. Slowly, she returned her gaze to in front of her as they walked into the building.
A man sat at the receptionist desk with a phone pressed to his ear. The second they walked in, he placed the phone down and greeted the two of them with a smile.
"Goodmorning. You must be the new caregiver, Avelina Santos. I'm Jeffery Pina, the receptionist. Zaria had mentioned that she will meet you in Mr. Zolotov's office," the man said. She nodded her head in response with a small smile as Adrik continued to drag her towards the elevator.
"Nice meeting you, Mr. Jeffery!" she exclaimed just as the elevator doors had opened. Not even a second went by before she was dragged into them.
"Why are you in such a rush?" She questioned with a raised brow the moment the elevator doors closed. Avelina couldn't help but notice the way he fixed his suit jacket to make sure that both sides were perfectly even. He seemed to make sure that every single thing about him was precise.
"Look at the time," he said in response. She flipped over her watch to see the time. Suddenly, her shoulders fell as she quickly realized why he was rushing.
"We still have a minute to spare in order make it on time, Adrik," she said, looking over at him. He seemed to gleam down at the floor as she stood there watching him.
The elevator was quick to move up allowing their bodies to irritate gravity. She stepped toward him and brought her hands up to the edges of his glasses. For some reason, she couldn't help herself from slowly pulling them off of his face just so she could peer into his eyes.
He looked over at her before quickly looking away once more. Her eyes beamed into the beautiful silver of his orbs. She could see how his mind was racing as anxiety tagged itself to the fact that he was going to arrive to his office late.
"It's okay," she whispered. He glanced over at her and seemed to let out a small exhale.
"It's not," he spoke. She didn't know what compelled her to do it, but she wrapped her small arms around his muscular frame. He seemed to freeze for a moment as she placed her head onto his chest.
"It's okay," she repeated.
