Home, Secret Home
The room was a big one, a huge chandelier hanging from its white ceiling. The six fluorescent light bulbs brightened the auburn-shaded wallpapers that covered the walls. The black iron-rod bed suited the illuminated scenery alluringly, with a sleek grey sofa completing the look.
"Wow. I love it."
Glory's old bedroom at the Hamilton's was no match to this one. Her old bedroom wasn't as big, and the walls were painted a dry white grace wallpaper.
This one was heaven.
"We kept this room for our sixth member, actually. We're lucky to find you." Zac smiled.
These people were really good. And, they were tortured. The Hamiltons were über-mean.
"Thanks a lot. You have no idea how much it means to me." She smiled back.
Ashley came over and placed her small white hand on Glory's shoulder. "We'll be great. D'ya want something to eat?"
Ashley, Callum, Ian and Jazail, all had this naughty, mocking street-accent. Zac was the only one among them who spoke proper, fluent American English.
"Yeah. I'll love some food."
Ashley gave her a thumbs-up and exited the door.
It was all quiet then.
"So. Fresh up. Let's meet at lunch?" Ian spoke.
Glory nodded.
Ian and Jazail paddled to the gallery. Zac stayed.
He smiled. "It's really good to have you, you know."
Wow. Someone actually thought having her was good.
"Come on. You don't mean it."
Zac rolled his eyes.
"Why not. I'm sure, you will be of great help. To me, to us, to yourself, to all."
"Oh really?" Glory mocked.
"Ha ha, yeah." Zac added in.
If anything, Zac was awesome.
"Whatever. I want to tell you something."
Glory threw out her bottom lip. "Go on."
Zac started tapping the bed's leg by his foot.
"Hey. Stop that noise, it's irritating."
Zac tapped it harder, a strange smirk on his face.
Glory squinted wickedly. "Mean."
Zac chuckled.
Glory met his eye. "So, what did you want to tell me?"
Zac shook his head. "Nothing. It was not important."
Weird.
That was silly, wasn't it?
"Never mind. See you at lunch, then?"
Glory nodded.
And with that, Zac paddled out of the room.
Glory sighed.
She faced her bedroom again.
Should she rest?
She thought of taking a shower to wash away her dizziness, but where was the bathroom? There was no other door inside the room.
Maybe it was outside?
She slowly opened the door and stepped into the gallery. A faint aroma of lemon grass and polish clung in the air.
She paddled across the wooden floor, which made a strange creaking sound. Maybe the third floor was out of use?
Whatever.
She noticed another door a few steps away.
Weird, but maybe this was the bathroom? She slowly turned the knob and the door squeaked open.
Glory stumbled back as a cloud of dust gushed out of the door.
The smell felt strong in her air and she choked.
Finally, when the cloud vanished into thin air, she entered the room.
The room smelled of cardboard. It was a small one, with shelves covering all four walls. There was a small space that held a cupboard and a love seat was placed at a corner. Glory's eyes caught glance of a file placed in the nearest shelf. It looked like some check list.
Hl-House Address. It was ticked.
Exterior: Main Door&other entrances. It was ticked, too.
Hl-House Interior Map.
It was unchecked.
What? What did they have to do with the Hamilton address? And...interior plan?
"What are you doing here?"
Glory turned around to face Jazail standing in the door way.
Shit.
Jazail raised an eye brow.
"I, I was searching for the bathroom." Glory stuttered. That wasn't a lie, was it?
Jazail fluttered her eye lashes. "That's to the left of your room. And, I just came to ask you if you were ready, so that we can serve lunch."
Glory nodded. "Yeah. I'll just take five minutes. You guys can start."
"Uh huh. Take your time, though. We'll wait."
She gave Glory a tight smile.
"And don't come to this room. It's...personal."
Glory stepped out of the room the very moment, slamming the door behind her.
"Better." And then she went away.
God.
What was wrong with them?
What did they have to do with the Hamiltons?
Glory shook her head. She headed for the bathroom, which really was on the right of her bedroom.
She closed her eyes and let the warm water cascade down her body, washing away all thoughts of curiosity.
She was with them now. And she knew whatever they were doing was nothing but revenge.
They were great.
And whatever this would cause the Hamiltons, they deserved it.
But, she was curious. What were they planning? Would they tell her?
She closed her eyes again.
It didn't matter.
