Chapter 8
I couldn't stop thinking about Lapis Lazuli. She was constantly running through my mind, and there was nothing I could do to stop it. Every single thought I had always ended up coming to when will I see her again? I felt quite terrible about her broken laptop, considering the fact that I actually couldn't ever give it back to her if I wanted to stay out of jail. So I decided that I'd come up with an excuse for the next time I saw her... the next time I saw her... when will I see her again?
A vibration abruptly interrupted my train of thought, and I looked down at my pocket. I had previously been sitting on my bed staring off into space being a loser. I pulled out my phone and checked the new message, discovering it was from none other than Lapis. I internally squealed before eagerly reading it.
Lapis: Hey, Peri. I had fun seeing u again yesterday :)
Peridot: I did too! Also once again I'm rly rly sorry about the laptop. I'm such a fkin klutz sometimes smh
Lapis: Lol it's ok. Did u by chance get it to work?
I stared down at the text, internally cringing. Oh god I'm not prepared. What do I say?! I looked over at the broken laptop sitting at my bedside table, and I sighed loudly. I then spotted the flash drive plugged into the device. Hmmm. An idea popped into my head.
Peridot: I'm still working on it. But the flashdrive seemed to be fried and completely wiped out, so it's pretty much useless now :/
Lapis: Agh, bummer. That's ok I guess. I'll just have to get a new flash drive.
Peridot: Yeah... but I'm pretty sure the laptop will be fine
Lapis: Awesome!
I mentally high-fived myself, noticing that Lapis basically disregarded the fact that she lost that security footage. The footage was on the flashdrive, so all I had to do was get rid of it. Right? As soon as I reached for the flash drive plugged into the laptop, I heard my phone vibrate again. I looked over at it questioningly, and turned back. I picked it back up and opened the text.
Lapis: So... I don't normally do this, but I was wondering if maybe u wanted to come investigating with me
Peridot: Investigating?
Lapis: Yeahhhh... like I volunteered to investigate a recently closed crime scene because my boss wants to open it back up. There was a supposed suicide there but my boss thinks there may be more to the case so hes opening it back up.
Peridot: Lol sounds fun
Lapis: lmao ok cool :) tomorrow evening?
Peridot: sounds good
I smiled at my phone, absolutely thrilled to see Lapis again tomorrow. I wonder where the crime scene is? And a suicide? I've never heard about any suicides around here... maybe I just need to get out more. I sighed happily, and dropped my phone beside me. I grabbed the laptop from my side table, and looked into the side port. I pulled out the blue flash drive, and carefully dropped the laptop onto my bed.
I walked downstairs, flashdrive in hand. I needed to make sure this thing was destroyed, and out of sight. So I went straight to the bathroom, and opened the lid to the toilet. I hovered the small object over the toilet, and released it, watching it fall into the bowl. It was submerged into the water, and I chuckled victoriously. I placed my fingers on the flush handle, but immediately froze when I thought for a moment. What if this turns up somewhere?! Someone will find it! What if an expert stumbles upon it and recovers the data?! WHAT IF THEY'RE A TATTLETALE?!
I groaned loudly and dipped my hand into the toilet, urgently grabbing the drive. It was pretty damaged by the looks of it, but it was still possible to recover the data on it if you knew enough. I then realized that I had just stuffed my hand into a filthy ass toilet, and cringed. "Why are you sticking your hand in the toilet?" Topaz suddenly spoke behind me, and I slightly jumped. "Don't you knock?!" I grumbled. "It was open, though." she replied quieter.
"Nothing of your concern." I stated flatly, walked past her back out to the living room. "Huh?" Jasper twisted a bit on the couch to look at Topaz and I. "Peridot was sticking her hands in the toilet." Topaz claimed, and I rolled my eyes, feeling my cheeks burn. Amethyst burst into loud laughter, and Jasper chuckled. "What're you up to, Peri?" Jasper asked, but I gave no answer. I walked into the laundry room and opened the door to the garage slowly. I entered the garage and walked toward the tool desk in the corner. I reached for the hammer sitting there, and picked it up. I walked back into the house, and the others were still questioning my actions.
I simply ignored them, and placed the small flashdrive onto the counter. I closed an eye and aimed carefully, biting my lip a little. I raised the hammer above the object, and jerked it down. I slammed the hammer against the drive with a loud bang sound. However to my dismay, I wasn't careful enough, and it slid violently across the counter, flying off the edge. "FUCK!!" I screamed as it hit the floor with a loud clack noise. I dashed to it, and checked to see if it was damaged.
There was certainly damage - but not enough. I growled frustrated, and picked it back up. I stormed back to the counter and grabbed Jasper's gun. "What the hell are you doing?!" Jasper asked, sounding more surprised now. I opened the back door, and threw the flash drive harshly onto the concrete patio. I pointed the gun at the small thing, and pulled the trigger at least three times. "PERIDOT WHAT THE FUCK!!!" I heard behind me. "SHHH!!!" I shushed, before cocking the gun and shooting it once again. The flashdrive's pieces had scattered everywhere, and I continuously shot each piece.
I spotted a specific piece in the corner, and I harshly stepped on it. I repeatedly stepped on it until it was nearly dust, and I did the same with all of the other pieces I could find. "Yup... she's definitely gone crazy." I heard Amethyst state from the door. I continued mercilessly crushing the pieces, growling as my foot grew more tired. Sorry Lapis. I panted heavily as I was now too drained to do any more damage. I'm pretty sure that was enough anyway. Without a word, I walked past the others back into the house, placing the gun back onto the counter. I walked upstairs and locked myself back into my bedroom.
I stood in front of my bed, staring down at the laptop. I'm gonna fix this. Just because Lapis lost her flashdrive doesn't mean she has to lose the whole damn laptop right? I sighed and yanked my tool box out from under my bed, and hoisted it up. I dropped it onto my bed, and climbed onto the bed afterward. I figured I'd better get this done soon if I wanted to give it to her by tomorrow...I can't wait to see her again tomorrow...
