Chapter 2

"Holy shit, dude look at all this cash!" Jasper shouted in excitement as she dumped the bags of money onto our coffee table. I sat on the couch with my hands clasped together as I stared at all the green before me. I smirked and took a banded stack into my hand. I pulled the rubber band off, tossing it to the side. "That was probably the closest one this week, though. We gotta find a new strategy." I said, carefully counting the dollar bills in my hands.

"I counted my half of the money. You and Aqua go figure that out while I figure out what I'm doin' with all this!" Jasper explained, staring joyfully at the wads in her hands. I rolled my eyes and sighed, looking up at television in front of the coffee table. 'FOURTH BANK ROBBED IN BEACH CITY THIS WEEK – IDENTITIES STILL UNKNOWN' was the heading of the segment currently running on the news channel.

I chuckled to myself, knowing damn well that all four of those robberies were us. "We don't gotta worry so much about getting caught. Whatever we've been doin' seems to be working." Amethyst suddenly piped up behind me. "Well it wasn't your turn this time. Tonight was a really close one. We got surrounded and everything." I explained, cocking my head to look over at her. "It couldn't have been that bad. You're just overreacting." Ame claimed, waving me off.

"We had to jump off a building, Amethyst!" I raised my cracky voice. My fellow accomplice only snickered at my statement, and laid herself across the top of the couch like some cat. "Ugh, I'm exhausted. My clothes are still wet." I grumbled, standing up and tugging at the hem of my shirt. "Go change 'em, dummy." Amethyst barked from the couch. I groaned and trudged to my bedroom upstairs, halting at the door. I sluggishly kicked it open, and stepped in.

I swung the door closed behind me, and I looked over at my bed – which looked extremely comfortable right now. I took my smudged glasses off, and set them down on the sidetable. I checked my digital clock sitting on the table – which read 1:23 AM. I unzipped my dark green hoodie, and let it slide off my shoulders and down my arms. It dropped to the carpeted floor, and I yanked my t-shirt off.

I kicked my jeans off, and threw on a pair of shorts and a dry sweatshirt. Oh god I'm so tired, I lazily thought, staring at my bed. I jumped into it, landing on my stomach with a grunt. I stuffed my face into my soft pillow and fell asleep not even a second later.

. . . .

I was falling. The wind blew through my hair, and the air was slightly cold. My eyes were closed, and I don't know where I was falling, but I couldn't care less. My body turned slightly, and my stomach was now facing downward. The air hit my face harshly, but I grew used to it. My eyelids finally fluttered open, and my eyes immediately widened as I saw the concrete floor beneath me getting closer and closer. My arms began to flail, and my legs started kicking. I tried to make any sound but I was unable. I just stared as I only grew nearer and nearer to the grou-BANG!

My eyes shot open to the sound of a gunshot from downstairs. I sat up quickly and looked around, noticing I was in my bed...in my own bedroom. I ran my fingers through my hair, and exhaled sharply. I looked over at my door, and arched an eyebrow. What the fuck was that? "AMETHYST WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?!" I heard Aquamarine's high-pitched scream.

"I DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS LOADED!" Amethyst's voice shouted back. "Pffft. Yes you did." Jasper added. Ughh. The mattress squeaked as I clumsily hopped out of bed, and stretched my arms up. Putting my glasses on, I slowly walked downstairs and yawned loudly. I squinted my eyes and regretted coming downstairs as soon as I saw the scene before me.

A busted milk carton sat on the kitchen table, and milk painted the walls, as well as the floors. Amethyst was covered in it, and so was Aquamarine. Jasper sat in a chair across from the table, and her newspaper shielded the upper half of her body. "Where are the cleaning supplies?! Ohhhh my godddd what the fuckkkkkk..." Aquamarine whined, pacing back and forth.

"We don't have any." Jasper muttered, continuing to read her now soaked newspaper. Aqua's angry eyes immediately darted over to me, and I looked to the side, confused. "Peridot, can you please go pick up something to clean all this shit up?!" she asked in a frustrated tone. "Why me?! Amethyst's the one who did it!" I protested. "She's covered head-to-toe in the milk, and if we plan on stealing the cleaning stuff, we don't want to draw too much attention." Aquamarine explained.

"Seriously we have thousands of dollars, is it really necessary to steal the cleaning supplies when it only cost, like, 20 bucks maximum?" I asked, squinting at Aqua. "Fine then. Amethyst, go purchase the things." Aqua commanded, looking back over at Amethyst. "What?! No way! You're the one who's making such a huge deal about it!" Ame protested. I was already getting a headache from this, and I knew they were incapable of coming to a solution for this. "Ohhh my stars, I'll purchase the shit, you Kardashians." I groaned, rubbing my temples.

. . . .

I stood tiredly in line, my eyes trying to stay open. I had a bottle of Oxi-Clean that was supposed to "make surfaces shine like new", and I assumed that's probably what Aqua wants. I also held paper-towels, as well as a 4-pack of rags. I was next in line, and dropped my items into the conveyor belt. I PAYED for the items – something I rarely do, heh – and headed back to my car, carrying the two bags. I felt a vibration in my pocket, and I groaned as I had to switch one bag to my other hand, which was already holding a bag. I answered the phone, rolling my eyes. It was Jasper.

"Hello?"

"Peridot, uhhm, can you also do us one more favor?"

"No."

"Pleeeaassseee?!"

"NO."

"I'll be your best friend."

"I'm probably one of your only friends."

"Just please do it."

"Ugh, what is it?"

"When the milk exploded, it splashed all over the coffee pot, and now it's not working. Can you please please pleaaaase just stop at the coffee shop and get us some coffees?"

"I'm getting you all black coffees."

"I like extra cream in mine."

"Fuck you."

"'K thanks byeeeee"

"Jasper-"

Call ended

I sighed loudly, getting into my car and throwing the bags in the passenger seat. I stuffed my phone into my pocket, and started the car. I turned on the radio, and cringed as I heard the mumbling rap music infecting my speakers. I slipped a CD in instead, and started bobbing my head to Sweater Weather.

All I am is a man,

I want the world in my hands,

I hate the beach, but I stand,

In California with my toes in the sand

My fingers started tapping on the steering wheel, and I started mouthing the words. I pulled into the coffee shop lot, and saw that the drive thru was closed. I rolled my eyes but shook it off, continuing to sing to the song. I bobbed my head harder this time, and as I pulled into the parking lot, I was practically screaming the words.

"'CAUSE IT'S TOO COOOO-OOOLLLDD WHOAAA-OAAA! FOR YOU HEEEEEERRE!! AND NOW! SO LET ME HOOOOO-OOOLLLLDD WHOOOAA-OAAA! BOTH YOUR HANDS IN THE HOLES OF MY-" I immediately stopped as I spotted a girl standing on the sidewalk staring at me. She looked like she was about to walk into the shop, but stopped when she saw me singing.

It looked like she was about to burst out laughing, and my face burned to nearly a hundred degrees. Oh god oh god oh god please just don't look her in the eyes just don't look her in the eyes. Just look away look away look away. I stared down at my steering wheel for almost 15 minutes, and when I looked up, the girl was gone. Maybe she decided to go to a different coffee shop. Oh god I'm hoping she did. I hesitantly got out of my car, and entered the shop.

I nearly screamed at the top of my lungs as soon as I spotted the same girl standing in line for the front counter. I was just about to turn around and walk out of there, but she had already saw me, so there was no turning back now. I just slowly walked toward the line, shoving my hands into my pockets. My cheeks were probably beet red, and I bit the inside my cheek harshly. I tried to look everywhere except her, but I noticed she kept side-glancing me, and I couldn't help but look back.

I finally fully turned my head to look at her, and her eyes met mine. My face grew ten times hotter suddenly. Her eyes are pretty. The girl finally giggled, and I nervously chuckled. "Uh, s-sorry you had to see that..." I muttered, scratching the back of my neck. "I like that song too." she replied, smiling at me. Something about her was familiar. "Between you and me, sometimes I sing louder." the girl said to me quieter, giggling again. Her giggle is cute.

I smiled back, and laughed. "I'm Lapis. Lapis Lazuli." she stated, holding her hand out. I took it in mine, and nervously shook it. "Peridot." I replied, looking into her eyes again. She was quite attractive, and her eyes kept grabbing my attention. "Nice to meet ya, Peridot. I would say we should hang out, but I gotta get to work in about 15 minutes." Lapis explained, putting her hands in her pockets.

"Yeah, I gotta get home too, heh. But if we both didn't have places to be, I definitely would like to hang out." I flirted, raising an eyebrow. Lapis looked down at her feet and chuckled. Shit I'm gay as fuck. "So, where do you work?" I asked. "Oh, I work at the BCPD. I normally work the night-shift as an officer but they needed me in today." Lapis explained. My stomach dropped as soon as I heard the terms "BCPD" and "officer". OH MY GOD THAT'S WHERE I'VE SEEN HER. SHE WAS THE OFFICER CHASING US LAST NIGHT. OH MY GOD OH MY GOD. SHE DOESN'T RECOGNIZE ME.
