Chapter 1
Peridot's POV:
I slammed my fist into the stone wall, letting out a choked sob. My head pounded, and tears continued to stream down my face. I was unable to breathe normally, and my heart burned like a blazing fire. My nose ran, but I did not bother to wipe it, and I turned away from the wall slowly. My face felt like it was burning at over 100 degrees, and I stared at the metal bars in front of me. How could you let this happen? This is all your fault...why the fuck did it have to be her. Why did you get so attached. This is all your fault. Nobody's but yours.
I sorrowfully trudged up to them, and wrapped my fingers around one of them. I then placed my other hand on another cold bar, and leaned my head forward. My forehead hit the restricting bars, and the icy cold was unwelcoming. I closed my eyes as more warm tears spilled out, and I screamed at the top of my lungs, not caring who heard me. The scream echoed off the walls down across the other cells, but that was the only sound I got in response.
I released the bars and pushed off, walking back toward the wall. I tangled my right hand into my messy hair, and my free hand slapped my forehead. I repetitively slapped it, my eyebrows furrowed and my heart hurting. I let out another sob and thrashed my fists in the air, staring at the ceiling now with swollen eyes. I couldn't stop crying, and I knew I was always going to be left with this horrible regret. I gritted my teeth, and inhaled deeply.
. . . .
"Can't you go any faster?!" Jasper whisper-shouted to me, literally breathing down my neck. "Shut the fuck up and just let me do this!" I hissed, not turning my head to look at her. There we stood in front of a large safe in one of the Beach City Banks, after hours. I had placed a small bomb onto the door of the safe, and was now typing in the code (only I know) to activate it. ...8..9...6...4...3...2...4...7...andddd 2. The small device made a small beep sound to confirm activation, and I chuckled in victory. "Alright let's go!" I whispered, quickly hopping over the front counter.
Jasper followed as we dashed behind the nearest corner to avoid impact from the explosi-KA-BOOM! Both Jasper and I screamed as the countdown beat us to the corner. I felt a hot pressure that sent me flying forward into the front windows. I wasn't heavy enough to breakthrough the window pane, so I splatted into it like some retarded bird. Jasper's huge bulky body shattered through the window, sending her tumbling down the parking lot, hitting a parked car. I slid down slowly, and hit the floor with my back.
I groaned lowly, and hesitantly sat up, rubbing my aching head."You okay, Jasper?!" I yelled, glancing through the jagged hole of the window."Yeeahhp!" I heard her call back in a cracky voice. Yeah, she's gonna be sore in the morning. I hadn't even realized that the loud alarm bell had set off immediately after the explosion, and we had to haul ass if we were gonna get our hands on any of that money. "C'MON LET'S GO WE DON'T HAVE MUCH TIME!!" I screamed at the top of my lungs, and Jasper's head shot up. I clumsily climbed to my feet, and scrambled to the safe as fast as I could. The safe was in fact open, and the door of it was barely dangling off by a hinge. I took out a sack and reached into the safe. I urgently filled the sack with as much cash as it could carry, and Jasper quickly followed soon after.
"We really need a more efficient way to open safes..." I grumbled, continuing to fill the bag. I froze as soon as I heard police sirens in the distance, and I began to internally panic. "Dammit, it's the fuzz! Pack faster!" Jasper shouted, speeding up. As soon as my bag was already almost overflowing, I tied it closed tightly."Jasper we gotta go!" I whimpered, watching as she just continued stuffing her backpack. The front door was kicked open with a loud bang, and I flinched harshly. "FREEZE!! DROP THE BAGS AND PUT YOUR HANDS WHERE I CAN SEE THEM!!" a female voice hollered. "You parked the car around the back, right?" I whispered to Jasper in a barely audible voice, with both of our backs still turned to the police officer.
Jasper slowly nodded, not moving from her position. "Book it?"she whispered back. "Book it." I replied. We then both threw our hoods up, and sped down the hall toward the fire exit, still holding the money. "HEY!!" I heard the cop shout behind us, and we ran faster. Jasper slammed her shoulder into the fire exit door, running straight through it as it swung open. I swiftly slipped through it as it was closing. I ran straight into Jasper's back and almost fell backwards if I hadn't caught myself in time. "What's the hold up?!"I yelled, adjusting my glasses since it was harder to see in the pouring rain. But as soon as I peeked over Jasper's body and straight ahead, I saw why she stopped – we were surrounded.
The flashing lights of three parked police cars blinded my eyes, and my stomach dropped. "We have you surrounded!" a different cop called through a megaphone. "You said the car was around the back!" I screeched at Jasper. "It is! It's just down the street along that apartment complex!"Jasper replied, her voice much quieter than mine. We need a way to get past these pigs over to the car. But how?! I turned around, and noticed one of those metal ladders trailing up the back wall of the bank, leading to the rooftop.
My shoes made a screech noise as I sped over to the ladder, leaping as high as possible to grab hold of the bottom rung. I tried placing my foot onto it, but the rainwater made it slick, causing my foot to slip. I yelped as I fell backward off of the ladder, preparing to injure my back in some way. Instead, I felt large arms catch me, and I looked up at the person with a terrified expression. "What th-oh!" I stammered, looking up at Jasper's hooded face. She then threw me onto her back, and I wrapped my legs tightly around her waist, and my arms tightly around her neck."Hold this!" she shouted, throwing her heavy ass backpack into my face.
I had to release one of Jasper's shoulders to sling the backpack over my shoulder, and I nearly screamed as I looked to the right. About five cops charged us full speed with their batons in hands. Jasper began to climb up the scarily wobbly ladder as I held on for dear life. I made sure the exact shadow of my hood covered my face before I fully gave my attention to the police officers. The cop in front was running the fastest, and her expression was angry. My glasses kept smudging and my vision was slightly blurry due to the heavy rain, but the expression was distinguishable - definitely not happy.
As soon as the cop jumped up to grab onto the ladder, Jasper had reached the top of the building. She climbed over the edge, and straightened up, now standing on the roof. I hopped off of her back, and kept my feet steady. We looked around, and all of the police officers were now around the back of the bank. Heh,clods. "Welp, we're on top of the Beach city Bank. Now how arewe supposed to get over there, smart one?!" Jasper asked in a slightly annoyed tone. "Oh, calm your tits. We just needed to get the coppers all to one side. Now we go out this side and throw 'em off." I explained, nodding my head toward the front once again.
We then heard the sound of a gun cocking, and froze. "Don't turnaround!" I whisper-shouted. We couldn't let the officer see our faces, so it would be harder to search for us. "We're gonna have to do some jumping." Jasper whispered. Wait what?! "Don't move!" the officer yelled. "MOVE MOVE MOVE!" Jasper boomed, grabbing my wrist and yanking me along. I ran as fast as my feet could takeme, and I was wheezing. The terrifying sound of gunshots filled the air,and we ducked our heads and ran faster. "J-Jasper th-this isn't such a good ideaaa..." I whimpered as we got closer to the edge. "Jump on three!" Jasper yelled in response.
"JASPER NO-" "ONE!""Jasper plea-" "TWO!" "JASPEE-""THREEE!" Jasper's grip on my wrist did not loosen, causing me to end up jumping with her. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" I heard the police officer scream behind us. I screamed at the top of my lungs as we were now falling from the building. However, I wasn't as panic-stricken as soon as I spotted the metal stairs trailing up the side of the next building. The next building was merely seven feet away from the bank, but it still felt like we jumped off of a skyscraper and were now flying across a twenty-foot long abyss.
Jasper landed onto the railed stairs and rolled, popping back up onto her feet once again. I flailed my arms and slammed harshly into the rail along the stairs, knocking the wind out of me. But I kept a tight grip on the rails, hanging off from a thirty-foot drop. The backpack slung over my shoulder began to slip, reaching to my wrist. I whined as my arm became heavier, and I started losing my grip. "C'mon!" Jasper shouted as she reached her hand out. I reached my free hand all the way up to hers, and she wrapped her fingers around my wrist tightly. I kicked my feet out of reflex as the large woman hoisted me up over the railing.
I clumsily landed on my knees onto the stairs, and I squeaked as I realized that was probably going to leave some scrapes later. We ran down the zig-zag structured stairs as fast as possible - without slipping, of course. Once we reached the bottom, I sighed in relief. "Down this alleyway!" I exclaimed, pointing to a dark alleyway leading to the apartment complex we were hoping to get to. We ran down the slick street, through the alleyway, turning corners here and there making sure the force lost track of us.
Once I turned one more corner, I immediately regretted it. I collided with a police officer and nearly fell onto my back. I yelped and yanked the hood farther down over my face. "There you are!" she growled, now pointing her pistol at us. I was trying to formulate any plan, and just did the first thing that popped into my head. I inhaled sharply and screamed at the top of my lungs, sounding nearly identical to a little girl throwing a fit. I used all of the breath in me to make the sound as loud and high-pitched as possible. The cop gave me a confused 'wtf' face as I continued to stand there and scream.
This gave Jasper the opportunity to harshly bump the cop's shoulder, causing her to drop the gun. Once I completely ran out of breath and could no longer scream, I scrambled under the cop's legs to throw her off even more. I dashed through them and climbed back to my feet, running full speed toward our car. I heard the officer yelling into her walkie-talkie while struggling to chase us. I sprinted to the passenger seat, while Jasper quickly tumbled over the hood of the car to the driver's side. Jasper pulled open the car door andso did I, throwing myself into the vehicle. Jasper hopped in afterward and jammed the key into the ignition, shakily turning it.
"Uhhhh, Jasperrr..." I squeaked, watching as now four police officers were running toward our car. "I know I know!" Jasper cried, exhaling as the car started with a loud roar. My accomplice floored the gas petal, and my back hit the seat roughly as the car sped off down the street. I dropped the backpack and sack onto the car floor, and reached into the backpack urgently. I pulled out my pistol, and sat on my knees on the car seat. I stretched up to press the sunroof button and the window began to slowly open.
"Keep turning different streets. We gotta get them off our tails!" I shouted over the roaring sound of wind rushing in from the now open sunroof. I slowly but steadily stood on top of my car seat, so that was upper body was now outside of the car and through the ceiling. I gripped the slippery roof of the car with my right hand and aimed my gun with the other. Two cop cars were chasing us down, and I pulled the trigger. It hit the windshield of the cop car in front, and it swerved a bit,but other than that didn't budge.
I then fired several shots at both of the cars aimlessly, gritting my teeth. Both of the vehicles were now swerving violently, and soon enough crashed into each other. They both braked, and just stopped in the middle of the road once we were too far ahead."haHAAAA!!!" I laughed victoriously. I threw the pistol back into our car, and I flipped the two cop cars off with both middle fingers. I stared as the vehicles became smaller and smaller, and soon out of sight. I screamed asJasper took a sudden sharp turn, causing my hip to hit the side of the sunroof hole. "OWWW!!"
