Omake: Character Decks
Chabashira-sensei: Welcome to my extra lesson on the analysis of other character's Vanguard decks. I'll be presenting the decks used in this volume, and give my commentary on them. Deck statistics are also included, graded from E- to A+. An explanation for each category is provided below.
Consistency: Refers to drawing, searching, deck thinning, etc. Anything to increase getting into your win condition more often.
Power: Refers to power, critical, number of attacks, etc. Anything to attack the opponent with an increased edge in battle.
Recovery: Refers to resource management, recycling cards, levelling the playing field after falling behind, etc. Anything to close the gap between you and your opponent if you are losing.
Protection: Refers to shield, retiring, binding, etc. Anything to protect yourself from your opponent through various means of disruption.
Versatility: Refers to the various lines of play the deck can make, what different strategies it can utilise, how it deals in niche situations, etc. Anything that the deck can do in any number of given situations, and how well it can adapt to it.
※ The codes next to the deck name refer to the set they come from. V-CD stands for V Character Deck. V-LD stands for V Legend Deck. V-BD stands for V Booster Set (i.e built from the set).
Chabashira-sensei: With the introduction of the Ride Deck, cards included will be marked with a §.
V-BD12: The Moonshine MAFIA "Zyriot Feirbuster"
Imaginary Gift: Protect I
Machine Duplication: Choose a grade 1 or less unit in your soul, and call it to (RC) as [Rest].
Grade 0
1x Machining Worker Ant (Starter) §
4x Scissor-shot Mutant, Bombscissor (Critical/Sentinel)
4x Jewel Flasher (Critical)
4x Shelter Beetle (Critical)
4x Medical Battler, Ranpli (Heal)
Grade 1
4x Mutant Gentleman, High Class Moth §
4x Machining Cybister
4x Machining Hornet
Chabashira-sensei: Despite putting Moth into the deck due to his ability to act as a grade 3 in soul, Zyriot-san has seemed to have failed to recognise that Ornamental's cost specifies a "Machining" in specific. While Moth is a good card, it would be wise to remove him for another "Machining" unit to add further consistency.
Grade 2
4x Machining Scatter Horn §
Grade 3
4x Machining Spark Hercules (Avatar) §
4x Machining Ornamental
4x Machining Meteorbullet
3x Machining Stag Beetle
2x Machining Black Saturn
Consistency: C-
Power: B+
Recovery: D+
Protection: B-
Versatility: D+
(41)
Chabashira-sensei: The main aim of this deck is to perform the Hercules-Ornamental combo to overwhelm your opponent with three massive attacks while they have a de-buffed vanguard. One of the cornerstones of this deck is Scatter Horn, as it can tutor a grade 3 from hand into soul, meaning it is possible to pull off the combo on turn 3 now.
V-BD13: Red Hot Apocalypse "Mitsuba Jun"
Imaginary Gift: Force II
Blazing Forge: Get one Imaginary Gift: Force I and remove it at the end of your turn.
Grade 0
1x Lizard Runner, Conroe (Starter) §
4x Dragon Knight, Jannat (Critical/Sentinel)
4x Embodiment of Spear, Tahr (Critical)
4x Demonic Dragon Mage, Rakshasa (Critical)
4x Angry Horn Dragon (Critical)
Chabashira-sensei: Since Mitsuba-san is looking to close out the game on turn 3, he uses sixteen criticals to increase his chance of drive checking multiple of them both in the early game and with his three DOTX attacks.
Grade 1
4x Heatshot Dragon §
4x Calamity Tower Wyvern
4x Flame of Searing Heat, Gibil
4x Purple Gem Carbuncle
Chabashira-sensei: Combining Calamity Tower's +15k and Gibil's +5k are very effective ways of making DOTX a huge vanguard.
Grade 2
1x Prowling Dragon, Striken §
4x Igniroad Dragon
4x Torridcannon Dragon
Chabashira-sensei: Mitsuba-san's secret tech, Striken, actually makes the deck worse since it requires a counterblast to work. This means your opponent has complete control on whether or not you can activate the skill, since all they have to do is avoid attacking the vanguard. He was very lucky in the war that Zyriot-san attacked him, since he could've denied the damage and passed turn to avoid dealing with a 3 critical vanguard.
Grade 3
4x Dragonic Overlord "The X" (Avatar) §
4x Dragonic Overlord the End
Consistency: D+
Power: A+
Recovery: E
Protection: D-
Versatility: E
(29)
Chabashira-sensei: Regarded as one of the most helmet decks in the game, this deck has one goal, and one goal only: to bash in the opponent with DOTX three times. Mitsuba-san plays the fairly standard version of the deck while adding his own spin to it with the Striken tech. Don't let its low overall evaluation score fool you, since it's hyper aggressive power on turn 3 can easily steal games.
V-BD14: Invisible Rage "Imaishi Reo"
Imaginary Gift: Accel II
Sword Dance: When your rear-guard is placed from deck, Soul Charge (1).
Grade 0
1x Spring Breeze Messenger (Starter) §
4x Dantegal (Front)
4x Greeting Drummer (Front)
4x Halo Shield, Mark (Draw/Sentinel)
4x Elixir Sommelier (Heal)
Grade 1
4x Little Battler, Tron §
4x Knight of Sound Health, Cunedagius
3x Interlude Angel
Grade 2
3x Liberator of the Flute, Escrad §
4x Knight of Hard-work, Alienor
3x Knight of Phosphorescence, Langlee
2x Knight of Strong Favours, Berengaria
Grade 3
4x Knight of Fury, Agravain (Avatar) §
4x Knight of Flying Rings, Edmund
2x Full Cavalier Dragon
Consistency: B-
Power: B
Recovery: E
Protection: E
Versatility: E+
(28)
Chabashira-sensei: Generally, in Agravain, you're using him for his multi-attacking capability, rather than his soulblast 12 skill that locks the opponent out of calling non-normal units. However, Imaishi-san has made his deck focused around this skill, as seen with the addition of more recent cards like Edmund and Berengaria. For a start, this deck can be immediately improved by including the Percival-Aglovale package, as it would open more Accel circles and Aglovale helps builds soul for Agravain.
V-BD15: Call of the WILD "Jomko Akari"
Imaginary Gift: Accel II
Savage Jungle: When your rear-guard [Stand] by a card ability, that unit gets [Power]+5000.
Grade 0
1x Beast Deity, White Tiger (Starter) §
4x Shining Lady (Critical)
2x Red Lightning (Critical)
4x Twin Blader (Draw/Sentinel)
2x Three Minutes (Draw)
4x Wall Boy (Heal)
Grade 1
4x Beast Deity, Scarlet Bird §
4x Screamin' and Dancin' Announcer, Shout
3x Beast Deity, Glanz Dragon
Chabashira-sensei: Shout is an amazing card that lets you draw or soulcharge for free. The only downside is the RNG element, but with so many ways to restand him again - the order and Scarlet Bird come to mind - you'll have multiple chances to win.
Grade 2
1x Beast Deity, Typhoon Bird §
4x Giant Elephant Battler, Paon Mask
3x Brutal Jack
3x Kick Kick Typhoon
Grade 3
3x Beast Deity, Azure Dragon (Avatar) §
4x Ultra Beast Deity, Illuminal Dragon (Avatar Next)
4x Clear Frame "Whirling Wash of Curse Cleansing"
Consistency: A
Power: A
Recovery: B-
Protection: D
Versatility: C
(51)
Chabashira-sensei: A huge improvement over her old Incise Raizer deck. You can definitely see Jomko-san's growth through this deck, as it now runs less 3-ofs and 2-ofs and has a greater focus on high powered multi-attacking through combo pieces such as Illuminal, Brutal Jack, and Paon Mask.
V-BD16: HERE COMES THE PAIN TRAIN "John Fields"
Imaginary Gift: Force II
Phantom Hand: When your card effect would count the number of cards in your opponent's hand, it is regarded as ten.
Grade 0
1x Dimensional Robo, Goyusha (Starter) §
4x Dimensional Robo, Dairacer (Critical)
4x Dimensional Robo, Daibattles (Critical)
4x Diamond Ace (Draw/Sentinel)
4x Dimensional Robo, Gorescue (Heal)
Grade 1
4x Dimensional Robo, Daiscooper §
4x Dimensional Robo, Daijacker
4x Dimensional Robo, Gobiker
1x Dimensional Robo, Daigyro
Grade 2
1x Devourer of Planets, Zeal §
4x Dimensional Robo, Gofire
3x Dimensional Robo, Daidumper
Chabashira-sensei: Being subjective for a moment here, personally it bugs me that Zeal and Diamond Ace are the only non-Dimensional Robo cards in his deck since it ruins the aesthetic. A silly pet peeve to be annoyed about, I know. At the very least, I can feel some solace knowing that John-san was good enough to realise that Zeal was a better Ride Deck target than Daidumper.
Grade 3
4x Super Dimensional Robo, Dailiner (Avatar) §
4x Super Dimensional Robo, Daiarm
4x Super Dimensional Robo, Dairoller
Consistency: C+
Power: A+
Recovery: E
Protection: C-
Versatility: E
(35)
Chabashira-sensei: With the activation of his Skill, John-san's deck becomes an explosive powerhouse that forces you to have three perfect guards at the ready just to survive his turn. However, without his Skill, the deck is simply a much weaker version of the usual Dailiner build, as it is missing key cards such as Bradblack, Great Daiyusha, and Twin Order, in favour for more situational cards like Daiarm, Gofire, and Daijacker.
V-BD17: Genki Whirlwind "Katsumi Kou"
Imaginary Gift: Force I
Wide Kick: When the attack of your unit on circle with a force marker does not hit, draw a card.
Grade 0
1x Mecha Trainer (Starter) §
4x Killparade Mevis (Critical)
4x Silence Joker (Critical)
2x Liar Lips (Critical/Sentinel)
2x Cheer Girl, Marilyn (Draw/Sentinel)
4x Cheer Girl, Tiara (Heal)
Chabashira-sensei: The two-two split between the critical sentinel and the draw sentinel gives Katsumi-san access to the best of both worlds.
Grade 1
4x Ambush Dexter §
4x Wonder Boy
3x Commander, Garry Cannon
2x Offensive Punter
Grade 2
4x Adorbs Perm, Rona §
4x Highspeed, Brakki
4x Breach Spurt
Chabashira-sensei: Going first, Rona can tutor a Juggernaut to swing 23k against an 8k body on turn 2.
Grade 3
4x Deadheat Bullspike (Avatar) §
4x Juggernaut Maximum
Consistency: C
Power: C+
Recovery: D
Protection: C-
Versatility: C
(37)
Chabashira-sensei: An inoffensively mediocre Spike Brothers deck. It's very reminiscent of the first incarnation of Bullspike when it was first released, but with the addition of recent cards like Rona and Dexter, Katsumi-san's deck has gotten a good bump in both consistency and filtering.
V-BD18: Bad Boy "Albert Obama"
Imaginary Gift: Force I
Iron Inheritor: If your vanguard does not have an ability with (VC), triple your force markers. (If you have one, you get two)
Grade 0
1x Crisis Revenger, Fritz (Starter) §
4x Darkside Trumpeter (Critical)
4x Death Feather Eagle (Critical)
4x Howl Owl (Draw)
4x Abyss Healer (Heal)
Chabashira-sensei: I'd switch out the vanilla draws for Sentinel draws, since this deck lacks perfect guards.
Grade 1
1x Abyssal Owl §
4x Freezing Witch, Bendi
4x Gururubau
4x Invest Falcon
2x Foldbau
Chabashira-sensei: For a rush deck like this one, having Apocalypse Bat as the Ride Deck target would be better, since it can call your starter for another body on board.
Grade 2
1x Blaster Dark §
4x Knight of Fighting Spirit, Dordona
4x Gigantech Enforcer
4x Blaster Axe
Grade 3
4x Pulverise Knight, Daman §
1x Phantom Blaster Dragon
Chabashira-sensei: While Daman does have a Force gift, he's better off staying as a rear-guard, since his only skill activates on (RC). However, his lack of (VC) ability does allow Albert-san to activate his Skill to triple his Force markers.
Consistency: E+
Power: C+
Recovery: E
Protection: E
Versatility: E
(17)
Chabashira-sensei: An... "interesting" take on a Shadow Paladin rush deck. But it's extremely flawed and could do with some obvious improvements, such as running Nemain to field more bodies early, removing the vanilla grade 2s in favour of more proactive cards like Macha, and using a different main grade 3 since Daman is bad on the (VC).
V-BD19: The Golden ANNIHILATION "Demiza Taiga"
Imaginary Gift: Accel II
Hallowed Wound: Deal one damage to your vanguard. At the end of your turn, heal a damage. (Perform a damage check)
Grade 0
1x Knight of Early Dawn, Coel (Starter) §
4x Dantegal (Front)
4x Knight of Forceful Fight, Nalnes (Front)
4x Halo Shield, Mark (Draw/Sentinel)
4x Elixir Sommelier (Heal)
Grade 1
4x Scout of Darkness, Vortimer §
4x Stronghold of the Black Chains, Hoel
4x Listener of Truth, Dindrane
Grade 2
4x Black Dragon Knight, Vortimer §
4x Advance of the Black Chains, Kahedin
2x Oath Liberator, Aglovale
Grade 3
4x Spectral Duke Dragon §
4x Bluish Flame Liberator, Percival
3x Full Cavalier Dragon
Consistency: A+
Power: A
Recovery: C-
Protection: E
Versatility: A
(52)
Chabashira-sensei: A perfect textbook example of Spectral Duke. You can tell Demiza-san is the daughter of a pro-cardfighter. The only things that could be changed are all subjective, such as ratios or tech preferences. Some people like playing Mach Slash for the additional attacks or criticals over fronts to give the vanguard extra pressure for both of its attacks.
V-BD20: Savage Double Helix "Satou Ishigami"
Imaginary Gift: Accel II
Weapon Production: Put the top card of your deck face down as an equip gauge for one of your units.
Grade 0
1x Dragon Egg (Starter) §
4x Savage Aggressor (Critical)
4x Small Horn Dragon, Babytops (Critical)
4x Archbird (Draw/Sentinel)
4x Savage Shaman (Heal)
Grade 1
1x Savage Shooter §
4x Illuminating Dragon, Parasalamp
4x Light Blade Dragon, Zandilopho
4x Angry Roar Dragon, Roarbaryo
Grade 2
4x Turbo Smilodon §
4x Savage Raider
Grade 3
4x Ravenous Dragon, Gigarex §
4x Savage King (Avatar)
4x Clear Frame "Whirling Wash of Curse Cleaning"
Consistency: A-
Power: A+
Recovery: E
Protection: D+
Versatility: E
(38)
Chabashira-sensei: The whole point of this deck is to equip as much gauge as possible onto Savage King to make him a massive beatstick. This is done through cards such as Parasalamp, who get three gauge instantly, Smilodon, who consistently gives gauge on attack, and Zandilopho, who freely moves gauge to wherever you need it.
Re:V-CD03: Vampire Dancing in the Velvet Moon "Kazuraba Yukina"
Imaginary Gift: Protect I
Parting Treasure: When your rear-guard is retired by a card ability, Counter Charge (1).
Grade 0
1x Undying Departed, Grenache (Starter) §
4x Rampage Shade (Critical/Sentinel)
4x Rough Seas Banshee (Critical)
4x Knight Spirit (Critical)
4x Rick the Ghostie (Heal)
1x Chappie the Ghostie
Chabashira-sensei: Since Kazuraba-san is using the Ghostie engine, she's using the Ghostie Heal trigger since, at the end of her Beatrice combo, she can field them as 25k intercepters.
Grade 1
3x Damian the Ghostie §
4x Skeleton Sea Navigator
4x Witch Doctor of Powdered Bone, Negrobone
2x Ripple Banshee
1x Cyrille the Ghostie
Chabashira-sensei: Play Navigator. This isn't a suggestion, this is an order. Milling five for free is extremely powerful as not only does it set up your drop zone as a toolbox, but it also pays off in the late game where every card in drop makes Skull Dragon even stronger. Aside from this, a fun tech to include is Samurai Spirit, if you can find the space for it.
Grade 2
4x Pirate Swordsman, Colombard §
4x Greed Shade
2x Stormride Ghost Ship
1x Jessie the Ghostie
Chabashira-sensei: Use Damian's on ride skill to tutor Jessie from deck to drop.
Grade 3
3x Vampire Princess of Night Fog, Nightrose (True Avatar) §
2x Dragon Undead, Skull Dragon
2x Ghostie Leader, Beatrice
Chabashira-sensei: With or without Ride Deck, using three Nightrose is fine, since you have an alternate ride target in the form of Beatrice and it is very easy to tutor Nightrose to hand from drop with Greed, assuming you milled her off Navigator or Colombard.
Consistency: A+
Power: A
Recovery: B-
Protection: B
Versatility: A+
(65)
Chabashira-sensei: One of the strongest decks in the game currently. It's winning image - Quad Skull - is a very powerful finisher where you multi-attack with Skull Dragon four times in a turn to kill them. However, while this is the main game plan, Nightrose can deviate and adapt where necessary, making it both extremely versatile but difficult to pilot, since there are lots of decision trees to go down on.
V-BD21: The STRONGEST Running Back "Takenaka Mikitaka"
Imaginary Gift: Force I
Quarterback Sack: Switch the position of a trigger unit in your deck with the top card of your deck.
Grade 0
1x Running Sniper (Starter) §
4x Liar Lips (Critical/Sentinel)
4x Silence Joker (Critical)
4x Sonic Breaker (Critical)
4x Cheer Girl, Tiara (Heal)
Grade 1
1x Gyro Slinger §
4x Dudley William
4x Big Blow Ted
4x Ambush Dexter
Grade 2
1x Powerback Renaldo §
4x Flareblast Coyote (Avatar)
4x Dudley Davie
4x Highspeed, Brakki
4x Breach Spurt
Grade 3
3x General Seifried §
Chabashira-sensei: Thanks to the Ride Deck, Takenaka-san can get away with running three of his main grade 3.
Consistency: B
Power: A
Recovery: E
Protection: E+
Versatility: E
(32)
Chabashira-sensei: Obviously, the main point of this deck is to finish off the opponent with Coyote and the Skill. Surprisingly, this deck can easily fulfil the nine soul cost due to Takenaka-san's smart Ride Deck choices, the Dudley package, and cards such as Brakki and Spurt.
V-BD22: Snowy Angel from SILVER SKIES "Nora Takayuki"
Imaginary Gift: Force II
Armoured Blessing: When your other unit is placed on another unit's circle, that placed unit gets [Power]+5000.
Grade 0
1x Starting Legend, Ambrosius (Starter) §
4x Bringer of Good Luck, Epona (Critical)
4x Flogal (Critical)
4x Flash Shield, Iseult (Draw/Sentinel)
4x Yggdrasil Maiden, Elaine (Heal)
Grade 1
4x Charging Jewel Knight, Morvidus §
4x Flourishing Knight, Edith
4x Pongal
Chabashira-sensei: Using Edith's skill can guarantee a grade 3 in soul rather than relying on randomly soulcharging it. Her returning to hand means you open circles to call with for Hengist's skill.
Grade 2
4x High Dog Breeder, Akane §
4x Explode Jewel Knight, Laile
Grade 3
4x Decorous Knight, Hengist (Avatar) §
4x Swordsman of the Explosive Flames, Palamedes
4x Filled Feather Dragon
1x Holy Disaster Dragon
Chabashira-sensei: Nora-san uses 13 grade 3s to increase his chance of soulcharging one through Morvidus, Pongal, Laile, and Palamedes. Filled Feather is excellent for using excess soul as it can fill the board and draw lots of cards.
Consistency: B+
Power: B
Recovery: D
Protection: E
Versatility: E
(32)
Chabashira-sensei: This deck leans heavily into the soulcharge aspect to ensure Hengist can be active on turn 4 to multi-attack the opponent. The Jewel Knight package is included for both its soulcharge skill and benefits when called over. However, sometimes you'll lack good cards to call off with Hengist.
V-BD23: Zodiac Forcefield "Shimizu Hoshimi"
Imaginary Gift: Force I
Divine Clairvoyance: When you Soul Blast, draw a card.
Grade 0
1x Aiming for the Stars, Artemis (Starter) §
4x Battle Maiden, Kukurihime (Critical)
3x Cyber Tiger (Critical)
4x Goddess of Self-sacrifice, Kushinada (Draw/Sentinel)
1x Talisman Angel (Draw)
4x Witch of Big Pots, Laurier (Heal)
Chabashira-sensei: The vanilla draw is used as fodder for Himiko's skill so you don't have to sacrifice a sentinel if you want to activate a draw trigger.
Grade 1
4x Supportive Sorcerer, Communis §
4x Battle Maiden, Mihikarihime
4x Mythic Beast, Hati
Chabashira-sensei: If you keep a draw or critical trigger in your starting hand, Communis can secure it into soul turn 1 with his (VC) skill.
Grade 2
1x Battle Maiden, Mutsuki §
4x Venus Witch, Reppler
4x Strong Bow of the Starry Night, Ulixes
Chabashira-sensei: Mutsuki is used to get a Force on turn 2.
Grade 3
4x Oracle Queen, Himiko (Avatar) §
4x Goddess of the Milky Way, Pleione
4x Mythical Destroyer Beast, Vanargandr
Consistency: A
Power: A
Recovery: C-
Protection: E+
Versatility: B+
(50)
Chabashira-sensei: A fine Himiko deck, but it can be made even better with the inclusion of the Regalia package.
V-BD24: Take Flight "Tadokoro Yumiko"
Imaginary Gift: Accel II
Emerald Wings: When your drive check reveals a trigger unit without [Heal], choose one of your rear-guards, and [Stand] it.
Grade 0
1x Blow Bubble Dracokid (Starter) §
4x Battleship Intelligence (Critical)
4x Blue Storm Marine General, Despina (Critical)
4x Supersonic Sailor (Critical)
4x Medical Officer of the Rainbow Elixir (Heal)
Chabashira-sensei: This deck needs sentinels. I'd advise using the critical sentinels.
Grade 1
4x Wheel Assault §
4x Blue Wings of Faith, Basilia
4x Blue Wings of Resonance, Maxios
4x Blue Wings of Empathy, Makarios
Chabashira-sensei: Basilia is an incredibly powerful card that has the potential to +3. She's your main way of getting more Blue Wings on board.
Grade 2
4x Blue Wings of Obduracy, Simeon §
4x Blue Wings of Great Cause, Phayllos
4x Coral Assault
Grade 3
1x Last Card, Revonn (Avatar) §
4x Navalgazer Dragon
Chabashira-sensei: I'd switch Revonn's and Navalgazer's ratios.
Consistency: C-
Power: C
Recovery: D-
Protection: D
Versatility: E
(26)
Chabashira-sensei: As a luck based deck, Tadokoro-san's main priority should be increasing her chances of drive checking Heals to capitalise on her archetype's gimmick. She has taken some steps towards it, such as Basilia filtering and Revonn getting triple drive.
V-BD25: A Gambler's Trick "Shigeru Zenkichi"
Imaginary Gift: Accel II
Bluff Dice: Roll a six-sided dice. If it lands on an odd number, your vanguard gets drive +1. If it lands on an even number, your vanguard cannot be hit until end of battle. If your soul has zero cards, you choose which number the dice lands on.
Grade 0
1x Entertain Messenger (Starter) §
4x Darkside Sword Master (Critical/Sentinel)
4x Poison Juggler (Critical)
4x Dynamite Juggler (Critical)
4x Candy Clown (Heal)
Grade 1
3x Brassie Bunny §
4x Purple Trapezist
4x Tempting Hoopster
Grade 2
1x Miss Direction §
4x Double Head Unicorn
4x Fesbright Escaper
4x Silver Thorn Acrobat, Leonor
2x Endive Beast Tamer
2x Dancing Princess of the Night Sky
Chabashira-sensei: A very messy grade 2 line-up. Shigeru-san can probably afford to clean this up by cutting Dancing Princess for more copies of Brassie Bunny and Miss Direction.
Grade 3
1x Miracle Pop, Eva §
4x Gun Salute Dragon, End of Stage (Avatar)
Chabashira-sensei: By break riding End of Stage on Eva to give +10k, it makes End of Stage's guard restrict more threatening and harder to deal with.
Consistency: E+
Power: B+
Recovery: E-
Protection: E-
Versatility: D-
(21)
Chabashira-sensei: A well put together effort only let down by the weak card quality of End of Stage.
V-BD26: Bluish Flame of the Great ICE BARRIER "Kawaguchi Masaru"
Imaginary Gift: Accel II
Blue Reinforcements: Call the top card of your deck to (RC).
Grade 0
1x Crimson Lion Cub, Kyrph (Starter) §
4x Scarface Lion (Critical/Sentinel)
4x Flame of Victory (Critical)
4x Fortune Bell (Critical)
4x Knight of Blue Skies, Shanak (Critical)
Chabashira-sensei: For his new and improved rush deck, Kawaguchi-san has opted to play sixteen criticals to increase his chances of checking them early to blow out the opponent from nowhere.
Grade 1
1x Relentless Knight, Lulach §
4x Knight of Elegant Skills, Gareth
4x Crimson Lion Beast, Howell
Grade 2
4x Flame Wind Lion, Wonder Ezel §
4x Knight of Superior Skills, Beaumains
4x Oath Liberator, Aglovale
Chabashira-sensei: He still plays both versions of the Ezel superior ride to get Accel markers early and to activate Percival on turn 2.
Grade 3
4x Prominence Glare of the Azure Flames (Avatar Next) §
4x Bluish Flame Liberator, Percival
4x Incandescent Lion, Blond Ezel (Avatar)
Consistency: C+
Power: A
Recovery: E-
Protection: E-
Versatility: D
(30)
Chabashira-sensei: A much more bold and aggressive version of Ezel decks. The power output is certainly higher, thanks to Aglovale and Prominence Glare, but with the lack of draw power and an emphasis on your emptying hand to go ham, this deck has issues filling all the Accel circles it can open up. If only Kawaguchi-san was alive back when Brave was still a deck... that play-style would've suited him perfectly.
Re:V-CD02: Penumbra Mutant in Searing Pain "Ishima Akihiro"
Imaginary Gift: Protect II
Hidden Exchange: Discard a card from your hand, and draw a card.
Grade 0
1x Stealth Dragon, Madoi (Starter) §
4x Stealth Dragon, Ganbaku (Critical)
4x Stealth Dragon, Kurogane (Critical)
2x Stealth Dragon, Noroi (Critical/Sentinel)
2x Stealth Beast, Mijingakure (Draw/Sentinel)
4x Almsgiving Stealth Rogue, Jirokichi (Draw)
Chabashira-sensei: Instead of omitting heals to make the deck more aggressive, Ishima-san has actually removed heals so that it doesn't accidentally interfere with locking him out of Fuzen's skill, since it requires you to be on five damage to activate. Plus, the vanilla draws are good discard targets for Sakurafubuki.
Grade 1
4x Stealth Beast, Jadouneko §
4x Stealth Rogue of the Night, Sakurafubuki
4x Stealth Beast, Jagunrou
3x Stealth Dragon, Magatsu Breath
Chabashira-sensei: Sakurafubuki is an amazing card that lets you filter and countercharge for free. Jadouneko's skill to count as a grade 3 in soul means you can multi-attack with Magatsu on turn 3 now.
Grade 2
4x Stealth Dragon, Fuurai §
4x Stealth Dragon, Magatsu Gale
3x Stealth Dragon, Daidoku
Chabashira-sensei: Both Fuurai and Gale are vital for having a powerful turn 2. Combining their skills to bounce means you can rush your opponent turn 2 and return them to your hand safely end of turn. This also lets you recycle on place skills, such as Sakurafubuki's.
Grade 3
4x Covert Demonic Dragon, Magatsu Storm §
3x Shura Stealth Dragon, Fuzencongo (True Avatar)
Chabashira-sensei: Because of Storm's skill to perfect guard, Ishima-san can get away with choosing Protect II, which is actually quite strong in this deck as the +5k can be useful during multi-attacking turns. Getting two on the same circle makes it a pseudo-Force marker, which is good for Fuzen, since it makes hard guarding her attack more difficult.
Consistency: B+
Power: B+
Recovery: D-
Protection: A
Versatility: C+
(51)
Chabashira-sensei: The main goal of this deck is to build a massive drop zone for Fuzen's skill, so she can bind and gain huge amounts of power to finish the opponent off. An alternative win condition is winning through Magatsu's multi-attack.
V-CD06: REAPER "Kishou Arashi"
Imaginary Gift: Accel II
Monochrome Dream: Activate an [Over] trigger. Additional Effect - Deal one damage to your opponent's vanguard.
Grade 0
1x Harbinger Dracokid (Starter) §
4x Dragon Dancer, Catharina (Front)
4x Zephyr Kid, Hayate (Front)
4x Wyvern Guard, Guld (Draw)
4x Dragon Dancer, Jirina (Heal)
Grade 1
4x Chain-bolt Dragoon §
4x Mighty Bolt Dragoon
3x Rising Phoenix
Grade 2
4x Rockclimb Dragoon §
4x Demonic Dragon Berserker, Chatura
3x Dragon Dancer, Barca
Grade 3
4x Dragonic Vanquisher §
4x Jaggy Shot Dragoon
3x Dragonic Vanquisher "FULLBRONTO"
Consistency: A
Power: A
Recovery: A
Protection: A
Versatility: A
(70)
Chabashira-sensei: As expected of the King, he has provided us with the near perfect model Vanquisher deck. Everything here has been optimised as much as possible. There are honestly no flaws, and the ones you could argue for are subjective at best. The gaps in this deck's evaluation is the fault of Vanquisher's own limitations, not Kishou-sama. An excellent deck.
Re:V-CD01: Caged Dictator Damned for Eternity "Takanori Yuuto"
Imaginary Gift: Force II
Third Fist: When you bind a card, your vanguard gets drive +1.
Grade 0
1x Promising Knight, David (Starter) §
4x Belial Owl (Critical/Sentinel)
4x Darkside Trumpeter (Critical)
2x Death Feather Eagle (Critical)
2x Grim Revenger (Critical)
4x Abyss Healer (Heal)
Chabashira-sensei: By playing four different types of critical triggers, it may mislead the opponent into thinking you're running sixteen critical, making them more inclined to over compensate guard for the vanguard attack out of fear.
Grade 1
4x Cherishing Knight, Branwen §
4x Skull Witch, Nemain
4x Strict Order Knight, Lluails
4x Mage of Entwined Roots, Awalgin
4x Perennial Knight, Rimmon
4x Blue Espada Dragon
3x Abyssal Owl
Grade 2
1x Blaster Dark §
1x Dumphood Dragon
Chabashira-sensei: With the addition of the Ride Deck, Dumphood isn't necessary anymore and could be replaced with either Bat or Macdobar for a better grade 1 ride target than Branwen.
Grade 3
4x Claret Sword Dragon (True Avatar) §
Consistency: A+
Power: A+
Recovery: D
Protection: D
Versatility: A
(54)
Chabashira-sensei: Much to my surprise, Takanori-san has put his own very unique spin on Claret. He has completely leaned into the grade 1 aspect of the deck, somehow managing to find a way to only run two grade 2s to make getting seven grade 1s in drop zone as consistent as possible. Not only that, but the rush potential of his deck is even greater than Demiza-san's due to this absurdly high grade 1 count. The compression of this deck to filter down to just triggers is insane too. Well done, Takanori-san.
Yuuto: Getting complemented by sensei... it feels good.
Yza: I knew it, you do have a teacher fetish! But it's cool, I have one too. Seeing Rukia as a teacher awoke something in me.
Rukia: Please stop giving our son weird ideas...
D-CD01: The World Only God Knows "Mikazuchi Ryuzaki"
Shadow Army Token
Chronos Coffin: Call a Shadow Army token to (RC).
Chabashira-sensei: Being honest, I don't know much about overDress, so I'll let Mikazuchi-sensei handle this.
Ryuzaki: Poggies
Grade 0
1x Cardinal Fang, Phovi (Starter) §
4x Cardinal Draco, Barbizonde (Critical)
4x Cardinal Draco, Enpyro (Front)
3x Cardinal Draco, Aeblood (Front)
4x Cardinal Prima, Nabilem (Heal)
1x Star Dragon Deity of Infinitude, Eldobreath (Over)
Ryuzaki: Basically, I hate the new oD starters, give me back Chrono Dran, I think Over triggers are dummy toxic for the game, except when it works in my favour, and 20k shield Fronts has been the best thing to exist since sliced bread. Why did Heal trigger's shield have to get nerfed for Stand trigger's sins...
Grade 1
1x Cardinal Noid, Routis §
4x Cardinal Noid, Thumborino
4x Detonation Mutant, Bobalmine
4x Violate Dragon (Sentinel)
Ryuzaki: Don't you dare run more than 1 Routis. This is directly for you, Fox. The new sentinels are also really good, it's one of the few flexes I have on V.
Grade 2
4x Cardinal Noid, Cubisia §
4x Cardinal Draco, Alviderd
4x Hollowing Moonlit Night
2x Eclipsed Moonlight
Ryuzaki: You can play 3 Marisma over 3 Cubisia if you want. Alviderd being able to blow stuff up is pog, retire is great to remove really annoying cards like Nemain and Lenard.
Chabashira-sensei: Who's Lenard?
Ryuzaki: My sweet summer child, you do not want to know. :wut:
Grade 3
4x Cardinal Deus, Orfist (Avatar) §
2x In the Darkness Nobody Knows
Ryuzaki: PERSONA RIDEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE is actually a pretty good mechanic, who knew that a static +10k to the front row and a draw would feel like playing the love child born from a gang bang between three Force I markers and half an Accel II marker?
Ryuuga: I coined this term, Bushi totally ripped off my thing, it's time to sue them for it!
Izuru: Stop making yourself even more overworked onii-san
Kaido: I'll pay for the lawyer
Rouga: I am the lawyer
Akari: *squeals* It's my boyfriend!
Imaishi: I can't believe I lost to this chad
Rouga: Who are you?
Chabashira-sensei: Where did you all come from...? This is supposed to be my extra lesson on vanguard decks, not a QnA session.
Ryuzaki: Man, remember when we used to do those? Thank god we don't anymore. *sips*
Chabashira-sensei: You're giving the audience ideas and I don't like it.
Ryuzaki: Orfist is a good card, CB2 to call three Shadow Army tokens is massive value, trust me. This is the same cost as the Whale in Lyrical Monasterio, and all he does is give away money to gacha companies and +5k to your rear-guards!
Chabashira-sensei: ...there's a whale card? *eyes turn sparkly*
Ryuzaki: Have I piqued your interest, Chabashira-san?
Chabashira-sensei: *goes back to her serious self* N-no! Okay, maybe... um... just a little...
Ryuzaki: It's okay to be honest! *grabs her round the shoulder* Come, let me show you the world of... overDress!
Chabashira-sensei: *gasps* W-what is this?!
Ryuzaki: An egg.
Consistency: A
Power: A
Recovery: A-
Protection: B
Versatility: C-

Ryuzaki: Obviously, my deck is best, this rating system is rigged, overDress is sick, catch y'all in volume 3!

Chabashira-sensei: The winner of today's super competitive twenty deck line-up is Kishou-sama's Vanquisher. Just remember that none of these decks are wrong, and I simply evaluate decks on a competitive level due to my job. Diversity and creativity is one of Vanguard's strongest points, so feel free to use weaker decks for fun. I want everyone to improve in their own ways.
Yami: Sensei, when are you doing one for Premium?
Chabashira-sensei: ...we'll get there when we get there. Comment your thoughts or your own deck-list for me to analyse below, and I'll see you all in the next (hopefully shorter) Character Deck segment. Lastly, thank you for attending today's extra lesson. Sensei's very happy you've come. Now, class is dismissed.
