Second Christmas- No Ayaza Turkey, just Christmas Dinner
Enjoy this Christmas Special!
"Deck the halls with bells and holly, lalalalalala~" Backlion sang happily as he up and down a dimly lit corridor with Christmas decorations; lines of shiny red and silver with green holly and red berries hanging off them. He was definitely in the Christmas spirit, despite being a bad person at heart... for some, strange and unknown reason. He clicked open a door to find all of his trusted members doing their own things in each sector of the black walled room with red streaks all around it. It was disturbingly pretty.
"You..." Ayato gave a tense stare at Backlion, having his black rabbit mask on. "Why? Why did you decorate the base? WHY?" He asked, agitated as he sat in the corner of the room, hating the Christmas tree, the shining lights and the spirit of it all. "WE AREN'T HERE FOR CHRISTMAS!"
"Indeed we aren't..." Zeon stood up from his kneeling position, holding boxes of presents in his hands. The person sitting on the floor beside him was Rukia, who was taping down wrapping paper on gifts. "But Backlion decided to have a peaceful meet up with our enemies, like in the world war. He wants to give everyone presents, have a nice meal and what not... in our base, of all places." He shook his head with a sigh.
"I didn't say that! I said we'd have the Christmas at the school." Backlion's eyebrow twitched.
"But our base is under the school you idiot..." Zeon huffed.
"So? We aren't getting them down here, are we?"
"Wouldn't they find it weird to have it at the school, of all places? When it's also closed?" Rukia spoke up from her sitting position. Her green eyes wandered to Backlion's face, which had a wide grin on his, then to Zeon's whose face was cold and stoic.
"Because we're special." Backlion replied with an honest answer. Rukia gently put her hand on her face, sighing a muffled sigh.
"Also, it's just us four that are meeting up with them..." Ayato added. "Rukia, Zeon, don't you guys have families to spend Christmas with?"
"My parents keep insisting to fly out to our other family back in America, but you know I hate flying." Zeon replied, as he got a present piled on his stack by Rukia. "So I decided to stay here."
"How about you, Rukia?" Ayato asked her.
"I thought it'd be nice to see some of my old friends." Rukia said quietly. "There's not much to that. I'll be leaving around 4pm anyways to join back with my family."
"I see... As for us two..." Ayato looked at Backlion then himself. "WE'RE LITERALLY FAMILY!" Backlion laughed.
"That is right!"
"So. Who are we meeting?" Zeon asked. "We got like eight presents... So who are we giving them too?"
Backlion grinned smugly. "We're meeting Ayaza, Serena, Rino and Wyvon!"
"Oh..?" Zeon raised a brow. Rukia had a slightly disappointed face on.
"No Yza, huh... I guess it won't be like last year with the festival, when it was me and him..." She thought, blushing at the memories.
"Awww, don't worry Rukia." Backlion grinned. "Yza'll be there. Not for very long though. He promised he'd spend as much time as he had with his poor old mother." He laughed. "How sad."
"You're one to speak..." Ayato mumbled.
"Quiet!" Backlion commanded. "While they think it's a peaceful meeting, it'll be a perfect opportunity for us."
"Really?" Zeon asked him. "How so?" Backlion smile turned into a smirk.
"This a bad idea..." Rino mumbled as he loaded the back of the car with presents. "R-really bad..."
Wyvon patted his back reassuringly. "Daijoubu, Rino!"
"Weeb..." He mumbled, annoyed by his friend's mannerisms.
"Oops... That slipped out, again..." Wyvon stared off into the distance with a sweatdrop. "Trying to quit weebism, drinking and doing destroy dick December is super hard..."
"Remember, No Japan January." Ayaza had a laugh as he snuck up behind the two.
"Waaah!" Rino said, flinching. He covered his mouth. "I mean... What the hell?!" Wyvon and Ayaza both burst into laughter hearing Rino.
"Oh my god, what was that?!" Wyvon giggled. Ayaza held his stomach with laughter.
"Forget it..." Rino shrugged them both off.
"Alright, everyone ready?" Serena announced to everyone.
"Nope." Ayaza replied with his laughter dying down. "Waiting for Yza."
"Coming!" Yza stumbled to the group, a letter in his hand. "Just had to grab this." He showed them the letter, with English etched on the front.
"What's that say?" Ayaza asked.
"Oh, nothing important." Yza shrugged. It had "To Rukia" on it. "Just a letter for someone...."
"Rukia?" Ayaza nudged him slightly with a sly smile.
"Maybe." Yza replied as the group of five clambered into the car.
"So, what's Yza's... "present"?" Zeon asked Backlion as the group prepared.
"Rukia'll give it to him. We're just setting it up." Backlion shrugged.
"Oh lord." Zeon snickered. "You sure you're okay with this? I mean, aren't you into Rukia?"
"Nope." Backlion shrugged. "Back at the camp that was an act to rile up Yza. I literally have no feelings like he does to her. Besides, it's Christmas. Let's just give everyone a mildly fun experience."
"Jeez, I can't tell whose talking, the Void or Backlion." Zeon laughed at himself.
"It's obviously the Void." Backlion said with a hint of sarcasm. Zeon knitted his eyebrows as a response, secretly hoping it was actually Backlion because of the sarcasm.
"Give me a straight answer."
"Backlion."
"Oh my god, you're back!" Zeon threw his arms into the air and hugged him tightly. "I've missed you!"
"Woah, I'm the Void, chill." Backlion pried him off.
"Oh...." Zeon depressively removed his arms.
"Haha." He laughed in a stone cold tone. At this point, Zeon gave up on figuring out who was who.
"I regret joining this place sometimes..." Zeon thought out loud. "Yet I'm glad I did."
"Well, that's an interesting thought to say the least." He replied with a shrug. Backlion walked over to the other two, and announced, "Alright, we're gonna to the school."
The group moved to an elevator in the wall, before cramming themselves inside and moving upwards.
Parking outside their school, Serena entered out with the rest of the group.
"I'm at school during Christmas Day... Ironic fate is ironic." Rino announced deadpan. "Why didn't I just stay home..."
"Because you'd be spending it with either me or doing it alone." Wyvon answered. "I think Christmas is better celebrated by lots of people."
"Good and bad?"
"Well, if World War One showed you anything, then yeah."
"Let's just get this over with..." Yza mumbled, growing impatient.
"You excited to see everyone else after so long?" Ayaza asked him with a bright smile.
"Yeah... But. I mainly want to see Rukia again." Yza admitted.
"Stop letting your dick guide you..." Ayaza glared at him. Yza shook his head.
"I'm not letting my dick guide me... I just want to spend Christmas with her, again."
"Fair enough... At least this is better than me dressing as a turkey..." Ayaza shivered.
"That was hilarious." Wyvon laughed at him. "I ended up in hospital!"
"And our restaurant was trashed..." Serena said with despair.
"Rest in spaghetti." Rino put his hands together.
"I forgot you left halfway through the festival to go back home." Wyvon said. "May I ask, why?" Everyone lined up at the front as the automatic doors slid open. Going together in a line, everyone continued to chat.
"Because I don't like social events." Rino said grumpy. "What's wrong with that?"
"Nothing. Just wondering why, sheesh..." Wyvon rolled his eyes.
"Whatever." Rino brushed it off as Backlion, Rukia, Zeon and Ayato stood there, all holding two gifts each.
"Merry Christmas!" Backlion, Rukia and Zeon called out to the rest of them, as Ayato shouted,
"May Christ die! Satan is the only salvation for you!"
"Shut up Ayato!" The three said simultaneously.
"This is for you, Serena." Backlion handed her two wrapped gifts.
"This is for you, Ayaza..." Ayato shoved two wrapped gifts into his arms.
"Here you go Rino!" Rukia carefully handed Rino two gifts.
"And these are for you, Wyvon. Sorry about Max." Zeon apologised as he gifted them.
"Ah, don't worry about it." Wyvon shook his head with a smile. "It's all good now."
"I wonder what's inside?" Rino rattled the box gently to see what he could hear.
"No Gift for me?" Yza looked at his bare hands.
Serena and Ayaza simply thanked their givers.
"This reminds me." Wyvon put down his gifts and opened his duffle bag. "We got gifts too! Two for each of you!"
"Oh?" Rukia raised a brow.
"For Ayato, it's a cutting knife and sticks of craft wood!" Wyvon handed Ayato the wrapped set of gifts.
"Wood, useless, knife, useful." Ayato deducted.
"For Backlion, it's four bottles of blue hair dye!" Wyvon handed him a large box.
"Aaaah! I was running out! THANK YOU!!" Backlion hugged the present.
"For Zeon it's-"
"I don't want to know right now." Zeon butted in.
"It's a fillable body pillow!" Wyvon continued as Zeon took it with a blunt expression.
"Jee, thanks for the sex toy..." Zeon looked at his present, very annoyed by it.
"And for you Rukia, it's... Its... Not in my bag?" Wyvon blinked. Ayaza kicked the kneeling Wyvon in the back. "Ow!" Ayaza gave him a stern look as the puzzle pieces clicked together.
"So I guess me and Yza are gift-less." She laughed at the thought.
"Well... Not exactly..." Yza stepped forward and handed her a letter. "Merry Christmas, Rukia... Sorry it's not much."
"Ah... Well, it's something, is it not?" She smiled at him gently. Ayaza clapped his hands.
"Okay, okay couple, stop the romantic gifts and let's start having Christmas!"
Yza and Rukia turned to Ayaza.
"We aren't a couple...."
"As long as Rukia isn't reversed, you guys totally are." Ayaza replied as he had an idea. "Time to become Ryu..." He swiftly picked up a white towel and tied it around his head. "Okay, Yza, Rukia, stay here for a bit. Me and everyone else will be in the other room."
"Oh thanks for leaving us alone..." Rukia said in a sarcastic manner as everyone else looked confused at Ayaza.
"Like I said, other room!" Ayaza commanded as he marched forth to the nearest room in the school.
"We'll be in the canteen then." Yza looked at Rukia, signalling her to come over as well. The two groups parted.
"Why the hell did he leave us alone?" Yza sighed in frustration as he sat across Rukia.
"Because he thinks we're a couple." Rukia replied in a bored manner.
"Well, we aren't now, are we..." Yza mumbled.
"Are we even friends?" Rukia asked suddenly. Yza looked at her with a questioned face.
"Well..."
"Sorry. Let's forget I asked that-"
"No!" Yza cut her off. "I... would like to know too. Are we still friends?"
"Depends." Rukia replied quietly. "We've been well... childhood ones before this whole ordeal we had...."
"Yeah, we have..." Yza mumbled. "I...." Yza swallowed. "Rukia... It hurt when I saw you betray us."
"I imagine." Rukia replied, her gaze averting his. Yza noticed this and sighed.
"It hurt me a lot."
"I imagine." She replied again.
"...don't you have any other words?"
"I'm sorry." Rukia replied, wiping her left eye. "I don't know how to respond."
"..." Yza took a deep breath. "Even if our time together was short, I'll always remember it."
"I will too." Rukia replied with a weak smile. Her body trembled slightly. "Even if I have to destroy you... I'll never forget you."
"I swear I won't ever forget you too Rukia."
"What's... What's the meaning of this?" Backlion stared at the mistletoe.
"RuZa is happening, obviously." Zeon replied unimpressed.
"I would prefer to stay out of this crazy plan of yours, Ayaza..." Rino stepped away as he strolled over to Wyvon who was sitting in a chair, a bottle of juice in his hand.
"Oh, you also skipping this?" Wyvon asked him.
"Yeah. Screw whatever he's doing..." Rino shook his head. "He's just forcing two people to be together."
"...isn't that what R- Nevermind..." Wyvon shook his head.
In the corner, Ayato and Serena were cardfighting.
"This time imma beat you..." Serena grumbled as she fought Ayato.
"I drink bleach with my shreddies." He rolled his eyes.
"C'mon, three man team!" Ayaza pointed his finger outwards. "WE'RE GONNA HOOK UP RUKIA AND YZA!"
"WHOOO!!" Backlion screamed.
Zeon cheered weakly.
In the silent canteen, Yza and Rukia kept their eyes from each other.
"Maybe I should start up a conversation and convince her to join us...."
"This is so awkward..."
Yza looked at her with a neutral face. "So um..."
"It's awkward, isn't it?" Rukia replied with a nervous smile.
"Yeah..." Yza replied quietly. "It wasn't like this when it was just us two."
"Yep. It was so loud and just... You know." Rukia reminisced the times they were together, and that made her smile some more.
"I get what you mean..." He nodded. "Okay. This may sound weird of me, but uh.." Yza started to speak, standing up.
"Go on." She looked up at his face.
"I uh..." Yza's face twitched with nervousness and anxiety, his cheeks flushing hot red. "I STILL KEPT THE PHOTOS YOU GAVE ME!!"
Rukia started to giggle and laugh. "What? You're embarrassed about those photos? C'mon, you're joking right? There's way more things you could be embarrassed about, rather than stupid photos I gave you."
"Yeah but those photos meant a lot to me... since we were children in them."
"Much simpler times, isn't it?" Rukia stood up in front of him with a wide grin.
"Yeah, it was." Yza grinned back.
"Oh, I forgot." Rukia took out a small, wrapped box from her pocket and handed it to him. "Merry Christmas, Yza."
"Merry Christmas, Rukia. And thank you. For not just this, but for everything else you gave me." Yza replied to her gently, looking at the box with a small smile. Tears filled his eyes as they slowly dropped on it.
"...Yza?" Rukia asked, gently putting a hand on his cheek to wipe the tears.
"Sorry... I just... I don't know how to feel right now..." Yza sobbed, his tears streaming down his face.
"You can tell me, Yza." Rukia replied with a gentle and calming voice. "You can tell me." The two slowly drifted back into their seats, her hand not leaving his cheek.
"I'm not ready to tell you..." Yza wiped his eye as he placed the present down on the table. "I don't think so, anyways."
"It'll help you feel better." Rukia smiled at him.
"Well... I think... I think I still like you... I still like you a lot... my heart hurts whenever I think about you, and it hurts the most when I'm talking to you right now... But it feels warm." Yza spluttered quickly in rapid succession, his words almost a blur.
"I feel almost the same. Don't tell them this, but I somewhat regret joining the Reverse..." Rukia whispered to him. "But I miss you the most. I also still like you a lot... friends, or lovers. I know I like you and I miss your company." The two silently looked at each other. Rukia's hand started to part from his cheek, as his hand grabbed her wrist and kept hold of it.
"...can we just stay like this for awhile..." He muttered in embarrassment.
"Alright." Rukia replied, nodding. She kept her hand on his cheek, running it over the scar. "It's gotten better... Much better."
"Yeah, it has. Wounds heal." He joked. Rukia let a small laugh escape.
"Well, wounds on the outside... Emotional wounds, not so much..."
"Yep."
The air grew silent and distant, as eventually the hand drifted apart. Yza rubbed his cheek gently.
"Thank you, Rukia." Yza stood up and grabbed his small box. "I appreciate what happened today. Maybe we can meet again, sometime... Or something like that. I miss you, a lot." Rukia stood up too.
"We don't have to end it here." Rukia replied. "We still have each other's contacts! We can call or text!"
"Yeah, I guess we could... But it's not the same as talking to you face to face..." Yza laughed nervously.
"You're right in that part." She grinned.
"Well, I better get home for my mom. See you, Rukia."
"See you, Yza."
Walking out of the school building, Yza looked at the shining sky. He shook his head, and walked back to his house.
