🐾🧟♂️🧟♀️7. Baby Evelyn.🧟♀️🧟♂️🐾
I held my newborn baby girl to me, sweating from giving birth to her maybe an hour ago. She was absolutely beautiful and angelic. She looked so much like me, and I couldn't be happier of that fact. She hasn't opened her eyes yet, nor has she cried at all. The only way we could see her being alive, was the slow rise and fall of her chest. Sophia leaned on my shoulder as we both looked down at her. Sophia moved her hand up and stroked the small strands of hair on the baby's head.
"What are you going to name her?" Sophia asked curiously.
"Evelyn. Evelyn Jacqui Grimes." I kiss my baby's forehead.
"You named her after Jacqui?" Sophia asked, eyes looking at me.
"Jacqui saved my life. She... became a good friend to me, even though I knew her a short time." I say, ruffling Sophia's hair.
"Why didn't you name her Jacqui for her first name?"
"Evelyn is my adopted mother's name. Rick's mother." I sigh.
"Will we ever get back to them?" Sophia asked sadly, leaning into me again as she held a hand on Evelyn's head, the baby leaning into it.
"I'm sure we wi–" before I could finish what I was saying, someone broke the lock holding the walkers in the barn. As soon as the doors opened, there were numerous gunshots as walkers filed out. Sophia whimpered and I covered both her and Evelyn from any stray bullets.
"What happened?" Sophia whispered as we see all the walkers are gone from the barn. I shake my head as she stands and walks to the ladder.
"Sophia, we don't know if they're friendly!" I warn quietly.
"It'll be okay." Sophia smiles, turning to me as she stands by the ladder.
"Sophia!" I heard a woman cry out loudly. "Are you in there?!"
"Carol?" I whisper in confusion and Sophia scrambles out the barn.
"Mommy!" She yells and I hear exclaims as everyone sees her.
"Sophia!" I hear a man, Rick shout. "Have you seen Rosie?!"
"Sophia!" Carol cries as Sophia keeps shouting 'mommy!'.
"Y-yeah. She's in there." I hear Sophia whimper, and I can tell the others have taken it the wrong way as I hear people fall to their knees, sobbing.
"R-Rosie?" I hear his gruff voice ask as two people enter the barn. Before I can even respond to his voice, Evelyn already has. She wails in my arms.
"W-was that...?" Rick's voice cracks, assuming the worse.
"Hush, baby. Its alright..." I coo to her as I lean against the wall.
"Rosie?! Are ya alright?!" Daryl yells as he scrambles up the ladder.
"I'm fine, just tired is all." I smile weakly as Evelyn still cries.
"Is that...?" Rick asks, poking his head up from the ladder.
"Rick, come meet your niece, Evelyn." I cry as I hold her out.
"She's so... bloody, but still beautiful." He chuckles, taking her gently.
"Well yeah, she was just born not even an hour ago, and I have no water to wash her with!" I scold him as Daryl picks me up in his arms.
"Lets get ya both out of 'ere and cleaned up." He says, walking towards the ladder. He hesitantly lowers me into T-Dog's arms below. He then climbs down after and Rick hands baby Evelyn to Daryl before climbing down and taking her back, and Daryl takes me back too.
"What am I? A hot potato or something?" I joke.
"Or something." Daryl grumbles and I laugh loudly as we leave the barn.
"Rosie!" Carol, along with Sophia, Glenn and Carl rush over to me as Daryl brings me out of the barn. Rick not far behind us with Evelyn.
"Let her get cleaned up and fed first, alright?" He grunts, pushing past the group. Everyone coos at Evelyn and Daryl sighs. "Same for the baby."
"Rosie, can I carry baby Evelyn into the house?" Sophia asks softly.
"Kid–" Daryl begins in a warning voice but I cut him off.
"Sophia, you have to go in and get something to eat and some rest. Let her uncle carry her, we've had her for the first hour of her life, okay?"
"A-Alright." Sophia nods before hooking herself onto her mother.
We get inside the farm house and a nice man, Hershel, checks me and my baby over, and I make it easier for him by shifting into my caracal form, and find that Evelyn is linked with me, and she shifted into a baby caracal when I shifted into the adult form. He eagerly checks us up, but leaves right after. His 'nurse' Patricia takes care of the rest of our care. She has me shift back to human and gets me fed enough for my human body, and then sets me up in a room Daryl revealed to me was where he stayed when he came back here, wounded. Everyone gives me privacy, except Daryl, who just sits in front of the window, cleaning his arrows as I feed Evelyn. I looked out and saw everyone out there, giving Sophia and Carol hugs. Sophia looked up and met my eyes, waving at me excitedly. Daryl notices and looks back at me.
"Baby done?" He grunts, glancing at the small thing, bundled in my arms.
"Yeah..." I smile down at her. "Y'know, when she cried in the barn after you and Rick came in, that was the first time she cried. Not even when she was born, she just laid in my arms, only sign of life was her breathing chest." I look at him. "Thank you, for everything, Daryl."
"Didn't do nothing much." He shrugs, turning back to his arrows.
"You've saved my life, along with Sophia and my baby. You've done enough for us." I smile at him. "Plus, you're keeping Shane at bay."
"Yeah, bet he's pacing out that door, waitin' for me to leave." He sighs.
"I think it's time to go and introduce her to everyone." I say, standing up.
"Alright, but you're sitting as soon as we get to camp." He holds my waist.
"Ok boss." I nod and we walk out the house, Shane tailing us the whole way. I smile as the group all crowd around, except Glenn and Rick, who went after Hershel since the older man ran off and Beth needs him. "Everyone, I'd like you to meet my daughter, Evelyn Jacqui Grimes."
"Walsh." I heard Shane mutter under his breath as he stared at us.
"Shes beautiful." Lori coos as no one but me and Daryl heard Shane.
"Thank you." I hug my sister in law, since Rick had told me she was pregnant. "Its gonna be hard, but it is definitely worth it, Lori."
"Can I hold her?" Carl asked curiously. I nod and hand her over.
"Wow, her eyes are really pretty." Carl comments as Evelyn coos up at him.
"What?" I turn away from talking to Daryl. "She opened her eyes?"
I look down at my baby, and sure enough, her eyes are open to reveal one sky blue eye and one emerald eye. My throat closes up on itself seeing this. Shane's eyes are brown, while mine are blue, but hers are brighter than mine, and the emerald green eye comes from my birth mom.
