Jeremy was walking down the hall confidently, a smirk on his face. For the past month, Jeremy had been acting drastically different and Michael noticed it immediately. He didn't know why though, an explanation never came to mind.
Michael smiled as he saw his best friend walking down the hall. "Jeremy!" Michael exclaimed, his smile widening slightly.
Jeremy didn't seem to see Michael and walked right past him. Michael's smile fell immediately as he stared at Jeremy walk off without a care in the world. The brunette didn't seem phased at all.
"Jeremy?" Michael repeated.
No response.
Michael huffed and shoved his hands in his pockets. He looked around, to see if anyone else was phased by Jeremy's new(ish) behavior.
However, no one seemed to care. It was practically a normal day. No one cared about michael. Except now, even Jeremy didn't care.
Jeremy was the only person in that whole school to ever care of his existence, but now Jeremy didn't even notice his presence in the halls. What was going on? Michael didn't know.
Michael pursed his lips, brows furrowed. He walked in the opposite direction, hoping no one saw him publicly humiliate himself.
The dark haired male made his way into his next class, not waiting for the bell to ring. You see, usually, he would be five seconds late for class because he and Jeremy would be talking and laughing about something stupid they did. However now, for obvious reasons that wasn't the case.
He couldn't wrap his head around why his supposed best friend was acting like this. They had been best friends since diapers, they had gone through everything together; family issues, lost friends, tons of video game levels and more. When Jeremy's mom left, Michael was there.
Now he wasn't, and that made Michael question a lot of things. What did he do? Why was Jeremy acting this way? There was nothing to lead up to his abnormal behavior.
Suddenly, practically the worst thing could've happened. Jake and Rich walked in.
"What are you doing?" Rich started, "You're in our way."
Actually, they were in Michael's way.
"I'm just trying to get to class." Michael responded quietly, not really in the mood to talk right then and there (especially to those dicks).
"Well, move out of the way, nerd." Rich pushed him aside as he and Jake barrelled through the space Michael used to be in.
Michael gulped, then continued on with his day, his mind clouded with thoughts throughout it.
The worst part was that Jeremy was about six or seven feet away, talking to a group of popular girls. Michael sniffed at the sight, and grabbed the arms of his backpack.
He still had the 'riends' on there and Jeremy still had the 'BOYF' on his backpack as well
--Timeskip--
Michael was walking out of a classroom, lips scrunched together and brows furrowed. He had a place to be in a few minutes, so he was in a bit of a rush. It so happened that Jeremy was turning the corner, the two nearly bumping into each other.
"Micael! Where have you been all day? I'm so glad to see you!" Jeremy smiled as he greeted his old friend.
"Really? So you're not the one who's been avoiding me?" Michael spoke up, bitterness in his voice.
"What are you talking about? I haven't seen you since--" Jeremy questioned, then his eyes went blank.
Michael blinked and look around. He has seen Jeremy's weird side, but nothing to the part where his eyes went totally blank and he stopped talking for a long period of time.
"Jeremy, why are you standing there. . . all creepy and stuff. . .?"
Jeremy blinked back into reality, looking normal again.
"Seriously, what's up with you? You've been acting shady ever since. . . Since. . ." Realization hit Michael like a boulder, "It worked! Didn't it?"
Michael grabbed Jeremy by the shoulders,"Huh, Jeremy, that's amazing!" He smiled widely, shaking the brunette back and forth quickly.
"We gotta test it out! No. . . We gotta celebrate! We gotta get stoned in my basement!" Michael continued.
The dark haired male stepped away and looked back at Jeremy, his smile still wide.
"Jeremy! Are you coming?"
Jeremy's expression hardened, "Optic nerve block on."
Jeremy looked Michael for a second or two, before scoffing and walking off. Michael's eyebrows furrowed. He watched as Jeremy went out one of the many doors of the school and putting his arms around Brooke, one of the popular slutty girls at school.
Michael frowned and continued to walk the other direction. Sadly, he bumped into tweedle dee and tweedle dumbass on the way. Jake looked around for a moment before looking down at Michael. "Aw Mikey whats wrong? Your boyfriend cheating on you with another girl." Jake and Rich snickered before pushing past the dark haired male.
Michael stuffed his hands in his pockets, sniffing. He brought his glasses up for a moment to wipe the skin under his eyes. He put his glasses back on, then walked off with his head down.
The bell rang. Michael cursed under his breath before running to class as fast as he could. His breaths were fast. His feet were on and off the ground faster than a flipping rabbit. He got into class and sat down quickly, however he paid no attention to the lesson, he just kept asking himself what was wrong with him, and why wasn't he good enough for Jeremy anymore.
He hated this feeling, and he had it all his life. He had the fear that the only person ever to care about him seeing past his goofy smiles and dirty jokes would turn on him. Now, that day has come.
Jeremy finally agreed with Michael's thoughts. Michael was nothing but a weak and pathetic boy.
--Timeskip--
Michael strolled into a party, he had a fake mustache on and his jacket was different than usual. His glasses were slowly falling off his nose as he watched the various of people making out. Jeremy would always call it, "Real life Porn," And it always made Michael laugh. He was so happy when he was with Jeremy, no matter if they were at the movies, playing video games, getting stoned, as long as they were with each other, Michael could not be happier.
Michaels eyes widened as he saw Chloe giggling and touching around Jeremy's chest and neck. Something striked within Michael, and he let out a soft growl. Soon, he walked over to the food, his breath was shaky. Michael moved his hand away from the refreshments and stuffed his hands in his pockets. Maybe that was what was wrong with him, Jeremy hated the way Michael looked. . .that had to be it.
Michael engulfed himself in his own thoughts, trying not to think of the harsh reality facing him. His best friend left him because of some weird technical pill he took, and now 'optic nerve blocked' him or whatever. Michael honestly didn't know what he did, but he knew it couldn't have been good.
After a few minutes of standing there hopelessly, Michael managed to pick himself out of his thoughts and go to the bathroom. He didn't want to be around all the raging music, screaming drunk girls and all the steamy makeout sessions going on around him. Beer was flying in the air and puffs of smoke from drugs Michael didn't even want to think of were clouding up the room. He needed to escape, so he did.
Michael stepped inside the bathroom, and sighed, he looked to the left and saw Jeremy sitting on the bath tub.
The dark haired male shot up with glee and he made his way to the boy. He reached his hand out, only to have Jeremy scream and jump back into the bathtub.
"Sup!" Michael Smirked goofily at the brunette sitting in front of him.
"I never thought I'd see you here!" Michael continued, his smirk turning into a smile, "How're you doing, bud?"
Jeremy blinked, "You were invited to this party?"
"No." Michael snickered, "That's why I have this groovy disguise!" Michael snickered, and out in the glasses and mustache.
"Oh." Jeremy states before getting up and starting to walk out.
Michael hold him back, "No stop! I-Im tired of you pushing me out all the time no! You promised that if you got this weird techno thing you would still be my friend!" His voice was shaky.
"That was before-"
"And-And you know what! My friend knows a guy who knows a girl who knows a dog whose owner is a doctor who knows a patient at a psych ward! He had the same thing you have! That's why he went crazy!!
Jeremy rolled his eyes, "He went Crazy trying to get one-"
"No. He went Crazy trying to get it out."
Jeremy scoffed, "You wanna know what I think?" He started, "I think you're jealous that I have one and you don't! You're jealous because everyone loves me and you're the same lonely FREAK with a slushie and a game console!"
Michael blinked, taken aback.
"Now get out of my way, loser." Jeremy spat and pushed past him.
Michael's eyes were wide, his mouth a bit ajar. Jeremy got up and left the bathroom, slamming the door behind him.
"Good job, Jeremy." The squip's voice rang in Jeremy's head as he closed the door.
Michael's eyes filled up with tears as he flinched at the sound of the door closing. Did that really happen? He couldn't believe it.
He turned and looked at himself in the mirror. His glasses were foggy, because off all the quick hit breaths leaving his mouth, his face had tears running down, and he looked a mess.
Someone knocked on door, "SOME OF US HAVE TO PEE!"
"I'M HAVING MY PERIOD!" Michael screamed back
"Take your time honey!" The girl left.
Michael let out a breath, taking his glasses off to clean them and rid them of the newfound fog on them.
"Michael alone in the bathroom at the biggest party of the fall. . ." He muttered to himself, "How pathetic."
He whimpered and fell to his knees, sobbing uncontrollably. Once he got his composure, he stood up and walked out of the bathroom.
Only to see flames.
--Timeskip--
Jeremy's dad whisked up the stairs of Michael's porch. Michael had a drink in hand and was scrolling through his phone with a cig in his mouth.
"Michael!" Jeremy's dad exclaimed, Michael looking up as his name was called.
"What are you doing here?"
"I need you, 'cause I don't have the tools to help with what Jeremy's going through. And I know you know all the rules."
"But I'm not what he wants." Michael told him, sitting up.
"But you're what he needs!" Mr. He1ere exclaimed, "I need you to reach out to him. Jeremy won't listen to me. . .I can't blame him. . . But someone needs to watch his back."
Michael sighed, "If I try harder to be his friend, you have to try harder to be a dad. There's a Kohl's right down the street, I don't care what kind: jeans, khakis, leather- You're not leaving that store until you have a pair!"
"You drive a hard bargain, son." Mr. Heere said, scratching his chin.
"Deal?" Michael asked.
"Deal." Mr. Heere said
Michael and Mr. Heere's hands clasped together, them shaking on it. It was official.
Ooo
--Timeskip--
Mr. Heere (with a brand spankin' new pair of pants. Lookin' fine) and Michael walked into the auditorium where the play was being held.
"Excited to see Jeremy in the play?" Michael asked Mr.Heere, looking up at him
The older man nodded, "I'm happy for my son!"
"You should be!" The two of them sat down, Michael getting situated. His hoodie came up a bit due to him sliding down a tad.
Michael was psyched, he wanted to see Jeremy, he had not seen him in more than a week, not even in the halls. After Jeremy's episode at the party, Michael didn't know if he particularly wanted to see Jeremy in the halls, but he was over it now.
The first act was good. Almost. . . Too good.
"WAIT! You can't have anyone drink that!" Jeremy exclaimed, his voice ringing in Michael's ears.
Michael cocked a brow, his fingers clenching around the Mountain Dew Red in his hand. Though it was hard, after him finding out about Jeremy's squip being successful, he did his research on it. He even knew how to disable the squip, and he had the answer right in his hand.
"Why not? It's completely safe! I tested it myself." The drama teacher responded, seeming sure in his answer.
"Oh no. . ." Jeremy muttered.
Michael's senses were on high alert. He was ready for anything at the moment.
"You needy, pathetic, self-centered students!" Mr.Reyes roared, even Michael hearing it, "You think I WANT to teach high school drama? My squip says I can go all theway to Broadway! . . . I just have to keep you from ruining my big night!"
"You're going to squip the whole cast!" Jeremy warned.
And that's when Michael got up. He was on the move, leaving Mr. Heere in the dust. He watched as Michael went off, a look of determination on his face.
He jumped up the flight of stairs and kicked open the doors, he held up the Mountain Dew Red.
"MICHAEL MAKES AN ENTRANCE!" He screamed, and chuckled.
"Michael!" Jeremy smiled and looked over at the dark haired male.
"I was just in the audience thinking 'This is pretty good for a school play!'. Then I was like. . . 'This is WAY too good for a school play!!!'. They've all been squi
ped, right?"
"W-W-Wait, you came to see me in the play?"
"Even brought my own refreshments!" Michael exclaimed pridefully.
"Is that?" Jeremy's voice trailed
"Mountain Dew Red! Told you I did my research!"
"This is amazing! Give it to me!"
"Okay! Wait- no." Michael blinked and held the bottle back for a second. Staring at the brunettes blue eyes sternly.
"What are you doing, Michael? Give me the bottle!" Jeremy exclaimed.
The brunette gulped as Michael stood there, feet planted into the ground.
Michael turned his head, "Jake, this is going to sound weird, but can you give this Mountain Dew Red to Jeremy while I hold him down?"
"That doesn't sound weird at all!" Jake exclaimed.
"Up, up, down, down, right, right, A." Squip said quickly. After the squip said that, it was like a lightbulb went off in Jake's head. His face blanked out and his demeanor changed completely
Jake smirked and tossed his crutches to the side, "I'M LIVIN THE UPGRADE!" He screeched, before pouring the bottle of Mountain Dew Red on the ground.
"There you are Jeremy." Two Familiar voices filled the room. Jeremy and Michael looked up and saw Chloe and Brooke
"I just want you to know that I'm not mad that you broke my heart and slept with my best friend." Brooke said
"And I'm not mad that you dated my best friend and didn't sleep with me." Chloe added.
"He didn't sleep with you?" Brooke asked, her voice almost sounding robotic.
"No." Her voice was robotic too.
"He didn't sleep with me!" Brooke exclaimed.
"No" Chloe gasped and put a hand on her chest.
"Oh my god! I can't believe I was so jealous of you! Sister forever! Jinx!" Their robotic like voices said together and happily.
"sheesh." Jeremy groaned.
Jeremy shook it off, "Michael!" He exclaimed, "The bottle! There's still a few drops in the bottle left!" He pointed out.
"How am I supposed to get past them?" Michael asked.
"Apocalypse of the Damned! Level nine!"
"The Cafetorium!" They exclaimed in unison.
"Got it!" Michael responded.
Michael and Jeremy made their way through the Zombie-Like students and finally got to the Red Iridescent bottle.
Suddenly, Jenna Rolan grabbed into Michael.
"JEREMY! CATCH!" The dark haired male screamed and threw Jeremy the bottle.
Jeremy was about to drink it when. . .
"You don't want to drink that, Jeremy." His squip said.
"Why not?"
"Because you'll never be with HER!"
The doors opened, revealing Christine.
Christine looked at Jeremy, her eyes were no longer the same brown that Jeremy could get lost in for hours, but a electro blue, that resembled the squips.
"You are the person I want to be with every day." She smiled and looked up at Jeremy.
"That is not Christine. . ." Jeremy said, his voice shaky.
"Yes it is! I assure you, just her fears and insecurities have been removed!"
"You're the guy I'm so kinda into. The guy I'm totally into. This feeling is new. Jeremy, I love you." Christine admitted sincerely.
"That's your cue!" The squip exclaimed
"She'll do whatever I want!" Jeremy pointed out.
"That's what I promised." The squip responded.
Christine and Jeremy got real close, then he brought up the Mountain Dew. "Take this." He whispered softly into her ear.
She cocked her head to the side and took a sip, Then everyone started screaming
Including Michael who was hiding under a table.
People dropped like flies, falling to the ground. Jeremy was the last to fall.
"Jeremy?" Michael crawled out of the table, "Jeremy?" Michael shook the brunette.
