Jungkook's eyes water for some reason while reading Tae's texts. He's never been called beautiful before. He's been called handsome by his mom, but no child takes their parent's compliments seriously. It's different when someone else compliments you. Someone you aren't related to. Someone you're crushing on seriously hard.

He almost feels like Taehyung is lying, and maybe he would believe that if he didn't already know how sincere the boy is. It's not in Taehyung's character description to lie. It's simply unfathomable.

Jungkook doesn't answer the texts. He doesn't know how to reply. He's still shaking from the anxiety of revealing himself.

And then...

His phone rings.

Jungkook wipes at his eyes, laughing at Tae's number but simultaneously dreading the moment he answers. He taps the green button, bracing himself.

"Jeon Jungkook," Taehyung says as soon as Jungkook answers. "Jeon Jungkook. God, it feels really nice to call you by your name. I don't expect you to answer me at all throughout this call, by the way. I'm fully anticipating this to be one-sided. I'm surprised you answered at all, but I'm glad you did. I'm really happy right now, can you tell?"

Jungkook smiles to himself, his cheeks flushing as he spins lazily in his desk chair.

"I don't know how I'm going to keep my promise, I'll be honest. But I'll try, okay? I wish you would just trust me and stop being so nervous, but I understand. However, I don't understand why you're so insecure because really... You know the first time I saw you, you took my breath away? I swear to God, you did. The funniest thing about this whole ordeal is that I've always wanted to get to know you more.

"Do you always have your camera with you? Truthfully, I'm convinced you sleep with it. But it's cute how you love taking pictures. I really admire you for that. I love the arts, and photography is definitely high up on my list. You should show me your pictures one day. I'd really love to see them."

Jungkook can hardly process the words leaving Taehyung's lips, all of it being so kind and endearing. The comment about his pictures, though, make him blush even harder. He doubts Taehyung would be so kind if he knew Jungkook has spent the entire year taking photographs of the boy.

"Jungkook," Taehyung mumbles, as if testing out his name. "Jungkook. I don't know why I'm so fascinated. Honestly, I'm kind of annoyed. We've literally been face-to-face and I had no idea, meanwhile you played stupid."

Jungkook feels bad when he puts it that way.

"You know how you can pay me back? Snapchat me again, but this time with pictures. I want to see your face when I wake up and before I go to sleep. Got it?"

Jungkook inhales a breath, the only sound he's made throughout the entirety of the phonecall.

"If I can't talk to you in person yet, then yes. You owe me some Snapchat pictures," Taehyung says, partially teasing and partially serious. "Geez, how can you not be confident with a face like yours? It's unbelievable, Jeon Jungkook. Truly unbelievable."

Jimin bombards Jungkook the second he steps into the courtyard.

"I need Life Alert," Jimin says in a panic. "I feel like I'm about to collapse, and I won't be able to get up when I do."

Jungkook frowns, then starts laughing. "Are you meeting up with Yoongi or something?"

"We're having lunch together and it's our first one on one interaction and... how'd you guess?" Jimin gawks at him.

"Well, I couldn't think of another reason why you would make a reference to 'Life Alert'," Jungkook says, only slightly judging his best friend.

"Fair point. But really. What should I do?"

Jungkook gives him a look. "Have lunch with him, obviously."

Jimin pouts. "But I'm scared. I've never liked anyone before, so I don't know how to act around a crush."

"No one knows how to act around a crush, Jiminie," Jungkook says. "Just be how you are in your texts. You're always good at being yourself."

"Yeah, yeah, you're right." Jimin takes a deep breath and lets it out slow. "Sorry I won't be with you for lunch, Jungkookie."

"It's okay," Jungkook replies with a small smile. "I have to take yearbook pictures of the student government setting up for the dance in the gym anyways."

"Ew, that sounds boring. Too bad I won't be there to spice it up for you."

"You got sent to the principal's office the last time you tried to 'spice up' one of my photo projects."

"True, but I spiced it up, didn't I?"

"You're unbelievable."

Jimin laughs just as the first bell rings.

And as the two start to walk towards their classes, Jungkook's eyes catch on another pair, his heart faltering.

Taehyung smiles brightly at him.
