Adam: Through the millennia, legends were passed of a source of unlimited energy: the Promised Land. Unfortunately, all hope of finding this sacred ground had been lost, until the Shinra Electric Power Company excavated the remains of a being believed to hail from the very land they sought.

Randy: They called this weird, naked, purple lady Jenova and thought that if they could bring her back to life, she could help them find the Promised Land. But apparently, they just didn't have any Phoenix Downs.

Adam: If they couldn't resurrect a being who could lead them to the Promised Land, Shinra decided they would simply create their own. After many experiments in fusing Jenova's cells with those of a human's, they finally found their savior. His name was Sephiroth. With his abilities, Sephiroth was instrumental in ensuring Shinra's victory in the Wutai war, conquering the last free nation on the planet; he returned home a legend.

Randy: But all those warm, fuzzy feelings of victory didn't last long. While on a mission to the town of Nibelheim, Sephiroth found a bunch of books on the Jenova project. That's when he discovered he was a secret science project the whole time.

Adam: The truth crushed Sephiroth and drove him mad. In a rage, he annihilated Nibelheim, but was stopped by a mercenary named Cloud Strife. Sephiroth was impaled by the Buster Sword and fell to his death. But this wouldn't be the end as Sephiroth merged with the Lifestream that lies beneath Gaia, which is a river of energy that connects all life.

Randy: Normally merging with the Lifestream is a death sentence, but not this guy. Oh no, he absorbed energy from the Lifestream for years until he got a new body and a new powers to boot.

Adam: Along with his already superhuman capabilities, Sephiroth wields a long odachi named Masamune which he wields with one hand. Gold Armlet increases his defense and the Tough Ring ups his vitality and spirit. He can cast illusions, use elemental attacks with Fire, Earth, Ice and Lightning Materias, and heal himself with Revive or Restore. And thanks to the Lifestream, he has an infinite pool of magic to pull from meaning he's got no fear of running out.

Popup: Sephiroth can also mind control those who are infected with Jenova's cells.

Randy: He's also got the Black Materia, the one of strongest Materias in Final Fantasy VII which he can summon planet busting Meteors with, well Meteor and can tap into his Bizarro and Safer-Sephiroth forms for even more power. Octoslash is where Sephiroth delivers multiple sword slashes though it actually doesn't hit eight times despite the name and Heartless Angel reduces an opponent's HP down to one.

Adam: And there's his ultimate attack and Limit Break, Supernova, which is powerful enough to destroy an entire solar system! Now it's complicated how this works, but official guidebooks confirmed Sephiroth transports his targets to another dimension where said solar system is being obliterated and reality shatters like glass as Supernova destroys dimensional space all together.

Randy: Sephiroth is one of the strongest characters in Final Fantasy VII. He's defeated a dragon that one-shotted Zack Flair, whom he also bested, survived Genesis' fireballs, and survived being impaled by Cloud's Buster Sword. He's battled both Genesis and Angeal at the same time and won, beat Tifa Lockhart with ease and in his rematch with Cloud Strife, he was mostly dominating the fight.

Popup: Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of Final Fantasy, has said Sephiroth was nowhere near his full power in Advent Children.

Adam: This is important as Cloud scales to Zack Flair who defeated Bahamut Fury, whose Exaflare destroyed the moon has sustained a personal space large enough to contain countless stars and travelled from Neptune to Gaia at 1,200 times FTL. But even that pales to Zack defeating Minerva, whose considered to be above the Summons.

Randy:This includes Zirconiade, a Summon that would scorch all life on the Planet and whose summoning was an apocalyptic threat like none before, while Summons like Bahamut Fury were treated as little more than another obstacle to overcome.

Adam: And we can't forget Sephiroth's most famous feat, killing Aerith.

Randy: Motherfucker!

Weaknesses

Despite his calm demeanor, he is completely insane

Extremely arrogant

Cloud's Buster Sword has impaled him despite his durability

Omnislash is the one attack he can't defend himself from

Many of his stronger powers require outside Materia he 

Like many Final Fantasy characters, his magic is limited to his mana and Materia use (Though the Lifestream provides infinite magic which negates the limitations)

Adam: Sephiroth in undeniably powerful, but far from invincible. Despite his incredible power, Cloud has bested him on three separate occasions and was vulnerable to Omnislash whenever Cloud uses it. He's also extremely arrogant and many of his stronger attacks require Materia he doesn't always carry in person.

Randy: And while's he looks okay, Sephiroth is completely insane and has been  impaled by Cloud's Buster Sword despite his insane healing factor.

Adam: But no matter his weaknesses, you can be sure of one thing. Sephiroth, the dreaded One-Winged Angel, will never be a memory to those who fought him.
