Ippo Makunouchi Steps First in DEATH BATTLE
(Under Star - Shocking Lemon)

Jack: Makunouchi Ippo lived alone with his mother, looking after the boating and fishing shop that his dad left behind. Ippo had only one question on his mind: What is it like to be strong?
Emma: Ya see, Ippo got the shit kicked out of him every day by the school bullies. Ya gotta feel weak after that.
Jack: It was another day of getting beaten up, but this time it was more brutal when suddenly-
Emma: Lemme guess, somebody came out of nowhere to help him like in The Karate Kid?
Jack: Well..... yes, actually. His savior was Takamura Mamoru, a boxer at a local boxing gym. Awestruck by Takamura's strength and bravery, Ippo begged to be brought to the gym.
Emma: He was introduced to veteran boxer and trainer, Kamogawa Genji. Genji discovered that Ippo had a natural talent for powerful punches. In fact, his natural affinity for boxing came from working on fishing boats his whole life. He developed an inhuman strength from carrying coolers filled with ice and fish, and a natural balance by standing on rocking boats out in the sea.

Emma: Ippo specializes in the In-Fighter boxing style where he prefers getting up close and pressuring his opponents with hard blows. This style relies on power and what Ippo relies to get knockouts. He uses Peek-a-Boo stance alongside the Turtle strategy to block while maintaining his center of gravity. He can knock you on your ass with Gazelle Punch, slow you down with a Liver Blow, lure you in with a feint technique via Sakki or even stun you with a well placed Heartbreak Shot.
Jack: But Ippo's not all offense. He can take hits as strong as he dishes it out. The guy will literally use his own face as a shield just so he can find the opportunity to strike. And there's the infamous Dempsey Roll. Ippo can sway his body side to side to confuse his opponent while dealing a flurry of blows. All while they hear the sound of jet engines.
Emma: The only problem is that it's predictable and repetitive so more skilled opponents can counter it. And once it's weakness became known after Ippo became champion, he had to develop two different forms of it: New Dempsey Roll and Free Form Dempsey Roll.

He's matched and defeated Miyata who was able to punch fast enough to break the sound barrier which is clocked at 767 mph or Mach 1.
Emma: He's also taken ten shots to the face from Keigo Okita and took hits from Takamura who can KO a black bear. A fully grown black bear weighs 902 lbs. Oh and after Dr. Tomoko saw his boner, an embarrassed Ippo repeatedly punches it with no visible signs of damage afterwards.
Jack: Oooh~ I can feel the pain from here.
Emma: ..... Is that what you humans mean by the phrase "beating your meat"?
Jack: .....
Emma: .....
Jack: ..... *blushes*
Emma: Uh Ja-
Jack: WE'RE MOVING ON!
Weaknesses
Still human
Dempsey Roll is easy to predict and countered
Fighting style is predictable
His incredible endurance has caused him to fight until his body literally cannot continue, causing bad cases of accumulated damage. At some point in his career, he was even liable to suffer brain damage, though nothing majorly life-changing came of it.
Emma: But Ippo is by no means a superhuman. He's still possess the same weakness as any other human like getting exhausted. The Dempsey Roll technique is pretty easy to predict and counter, same with Heartbreak Shot.
Jack: And while his endurance is something to be in awe at, it's also what leads him to take more serious body damage in the long run to the point he's liable for suffer punch drunk syndrome. He would retire after his third loss. But even then, Ippo would still fight on.
Ippo: Until I understand what true strength is. I'm the challenger! So I'll always stand up!
