The Bucket Trap

Arabella's POV

Charlotte and I were waiting in the Man Cave for my dad and Henry to return. Soon enough, Henry and my dad returned and we went up to them.

"Hey. How did it go?" I asked them as they walked over to us.

"Oh, man, it was insane!" My dad smiled.

"It was nuts!" Henry expressed.

"Well, tell us! What happened?" Charlotte asked and I nodded with an eager smile.

"Okay. A news helicopter was falling over Swellview, just going in circles!" My dad began.

"Because the helicopter pilot fell asleep at the controls!" Henry continued.

"Did you guys figure out a way to wake him up?" I asked them.

"No." My dad denied. "We just watched the helicopter fly around in circles. " My dad walks by us and I gave him a look.

"Until it ran out of gas and fell right down into the Jandy River." Henry informed us.

"And you guys didn't do anything?" Charlotte questioned.

"I got a video of it going down." Henry mentioned.

"Can you send it to me?" I asked him and got a glare from Charlotte, but a nod from Henry.

"Sure thing."

"And what about the pilot? Was he hurt?"

"No, just wet." Henry shook his head and I heard my dad chuckle.

"So, very wet."

Henry got a message and checked it. "Ugh. Another text from Jasper. That's eleven texts in the last hour."

"I got nine." Charlotte said.

"And I got seven." I added holding my phone.

I've been spending a lot more time with Henry, Charlotte, and Jasper. At first, I thought Jasper was weird, but I've learned to find that weirdness is fun and unique, like myself. So, we get along great.

"Man, what's up with that Jasper kid?" My dad asked. "Doesn't he have other friends?"

"Yeah, but not that kind you'd be, you know, proud of." Charlotte remarked.

"We're his best friends and he was so excited when Bella was added to his 'best friends' list." Henry added and I grinned. "But now because we work for you, we end up having to leave him alone all the time."

"Do you know how bad it is that I can't tell him where I live? I have to dodge the question and try my best not to give it away." I rant and Henry pats my back as I sit next to him. "I have to say something about buckets to get his mind off it. It's awful."

"I feel really bad for him." Charlotte confesses.

"Yeah." My dad fake pouts. "You guys hungry? Who wants Greek food?!"

"Ray! We just told you about a real problem we have with our friend!" Henry berated.

"And all you can say is who wants Greek food?" Charlotte asked and my dad just raised his hand higher.

Honestly, I'm not opposed to the option.

——

We ordered Greek food and it was delicious. I feel bad for Jasper, but food tops over everything in life.

"Man, I love these Jye-Rose!" My dad expressed as we eat and moaned over the delicious food. "That's how you say it, you know, "Jye-Rose!" We nodded. "You try."

"Jye-Rose!" The three of us pronounced.

"Perfect." My dad said.

"Hey, so back to our problem with Jasper." I remind my dad who groaned.

"Don't groan. He's our friend." Charlotte berated.

"Yeah, and it's not cool how we always have to lie to him and leave him all alone when you need us at work or when you need Bella home." Henry criticized my dad, who thought for a second.

"Okay. Here's an idea." My dad said and we leaned forward in anticipation.

"Yeah?"

"What?"

"What you got?"

"One night soon, we go to Jasper's house..."

"Mh-mmm."

"I don't like this." I say.

"Let me finish." My dad tells me. "We sneak into his room.

"Mm-Hmm."

"Still don't like it." I repeat.

"And we brain wipe his memory so he doesn't remember either one of you!"

"What?"

"No."

"I knew it was bad from the start." I fold my arms and shake my head as my dad frowns. "Knew it."

"Friends don't wipe friends' brains!" Charlotte exclaimed.

"Yeah. Yeah. Pass the lamb balls." My dad rolled his eyes and I passed him the lamb balls.

"Poor lamb." I say as he eats one.

"Anyway, I got a better idea." Henry suggested.

"What?"

"I say we just tell Jasper I'm Kid Danger."

My dad spit out his drink right as Henry said that and glared at him.

"Thanks, now I gotta clean the floor." I sarcastically say.

"That was charming." Charlotte cringed.

"No!" My dad says as he wipes his mouth. "No, no, no, no, no, sir!"

"Oh, why not?" Charlotte asked. "What's the worst that can happen?"

"Oh god..." I mutter as I shove a lamb ball into my mouth.

"The worst thing is if Jasper blabs about it all over the place, and then everyone in the world knows Henry's Kid Danger, and then bad guys follow him and find out he works here, so then they know how to find both of us! Oh look, Bella is suddenly a target for all villains of the world or they could just blow up this whole place, and then they could also figure out where Henry's house is, which puts him and his whole family in major danger!" My dad rants and ends the rant with his body on the back of the couch, staring at us with fear and panic.

"Okay, but other than that?" Charlotte reasoned.

"Nobody is gonna tell Jasper or anyone else that Henry's Kid Danger." My dad declared, sternly and Henry got up to protest.

"Come on, what if I promise you he'll keep the secret?"

"You can't guarantee that." My dad reasoned.

"Okay!" I cut in. "Why don't we just test Jasper and see?"

"Yes. Good." Henry agreed.

"That's perfect!" Charlotte smiled.

"What are you guys talking about?" My dad exclaimed with anger and confusion.

"We'll make up some big old juicy secret." Charlotte explained and my dad groaned.

"And then if he keeps that secret for a week, we know we can trust him." Henry added.

"What do ya think?" I asked my dad.

"Okay." My dad agreed. "But I get to pick the fake secret."

"Sure."

"Done deal, man."

"I'm cool with whatever." I grin and my dad smirks at me.

"Okay, then."

"So, what secret do you want us to tell him?" Charlotte asked.

"That Bella and Henry are boyfriend and girlfriend." My dad smiled, making heart shape with his hands.

Shoot me. Now.

Charlotte immediately starts to laugh as Henry and I share a disgusted look.

"That's genius!"

"Ew!" Henry and I cringed, before gasping. "Hey!"

Seriously, please shoot me. This a nightmare.

——

The following day, Henry and I were gonna tell Jasper our fake secret. Henry is a great person, but I just don't see him as a significant other, he's just my friend and that's all. Besides, it'd be weird dating my dad's sidekick.

I was overreacting when I yelled at Henry, but I feel like he finds me gross and thinks I'm horrible in some ways. I'm probably overthinking it, but I've never had a boyfriend, so I don't know how a boy would truly react if he didn't want to be with me.

Henry and I were at his house that night and Jasper was gonna be here any minute.

"Okay, who's going to start?" Henry asked as I set three cups down.

"You start." I suggest.

"No, you start."

"I don't wanna start!"

"It's my house, I make the rules!"

"Well, why'd you ask me to start if you wanted me to start?!"

"Are you serious?!"

We began to argue over this and it got ridiculous. This is exactly why we shouldn't date, we would fight all the time.

"Hey, guys!"

We turn to Jasper and greet him with a smile as he walked in.

"Hola, Jasper!" I smile.

"Hi there, Jasper!" Henry greeted.

"So, why'd you guys invite me to dinner?" He asked and Henry and I share a look as we scoffed.

"Pfft!"

"What do you mean, "why?" Henry asked.

"Friends don't need a reason to invite a friend for dinner, right?" I asked him.

"I guess, but Charlotte isn't here." Jasper reasoned.

"Although, we have a reason and it explains why Charlotte isn't here." Henry explained.

"Yep, a reason." I repeated.

"But first, did you see we made your favorite dinner?" Henry questioned Jasper who gasped at the sight.

"Fish sticks and peas!" He clapped and I grinned.

Odd combination, but I like it. I would eat this.

"Yep! Sit down!" I say and we sit down at the table. Henry and I made eye contact and I verbally suggested he should go first. He understood and spoke.

"So, we have something that we kind of want to tell you. But first, you have to promise, you got to swear that you'll never tell anyone this secret." Henry strictly tells him.

"Except Charlotte." I chime. "She found out."

"Now worries. I can keep a secret." Jasper shrugs with a smile.

"Can you?" Henry asked

"Yeah, I never told Bella you finished watching Once Upon A Time without her." Jasper admitted and I gasped.

"What?!"

"You did not just say that!" Henry gasped with horror and Jasper looked down with shame.

"You finished Once Upon A Time without me?!" I asked with betrayal. "That's our show!"

"We're getting off track here!" Henry snapped and I glared at him as he lowered his voice. "Now, we want to tell you a big secret, but you got to seriously swear you'll never tell anyone."

"Ever, ever." I added.

Jasper licked his fingers and put them in the air. "I swear on your tv show pact's grave."

"Stop mentioning the show!" Henry cried.

"I can't believe you finished watching season 4 without me!" I exclaimed.

"We were planning on watching season 4, but you got sick and I couldn't help myself!" Henry protested with anxiousness. "I'm sorry!"

I folded my arms and motioned Henry to tell Jasper

"Bella and I are boyfriend and girlfriend."

Jasper's jaw dropped and was shocked. "You? She? You and she? You and him?"

We nodded softly at him. Jasper couldn't handle it and grabbed the bowl of peas and poured it down his shirt.

"AHHHH!"

He sighed before yelling.

"What?!"

"It's true." I say.

"You guys are dating!?"

"We are!" Henry agreed.

"We're deep in love." I reluctantly say and swallow any throw up that made its way up.

Kill me. Please.

"Wow." Jasper gasped. "So, you guys, like, kiss and stuff?"

Henry vigorously shook his head, while I nodded. "Mm-Hmm. We sure do."

"We kiss a lot!"

I sighed quietly as he said that and mentally wanted to stab Henry. Mental note for later.

"Can I see?" Jasper asked.

"Well, we can't kiss right now." I denied.

I don't want my first kiss to be here, that'd be weird and not romantic.

"Why not?" He asked.

"Because Bella has a mouth sore." Henry reasoned and I glared at him as I mouth 'What' to him.

"Ew, gross." Jasper cringed.

"Yeah, it's really gross." I agreed. "Henry, why don't you take me to the mouth doctor?"

"Sure, baby!" Henry agrees and we sprinted toward the door together.

"Wait, it's nighttime! I think all doctors are closed!" Jasper protested and we turned to him.

"Remember, you promised that's you'd never tell anyone that we're boyfriend and girlfriend!" Henry announced, before grabbing my hand and pulling out of the house.

That was nightmare.

I can't believe Henry watched the rest of season 4 of OUAT without me. That's our show.

——

The next day, Henry and I were in the store with my dad and Charlotte. Henry, Charlotte, and I were brushing the teeth of the dinosaur head on the wall as we were telling my dad and Charlotte what happened last night.

"So, you guys told Jasper yesterday, huh?" My dad asked.

"Yep."

"We did." I grin.

"Ha. I bet he's already blabbed it to every kid in your school." My dad laughs softly as we finished cleaning the teeth and went up to him. "And if he did, it means I was right and you were wrong, I was right and you were wrong, I was right and you were wrong-"

"Hey!" Henry snapped. "That songs really repetitive!"

I nodded at him and Jasper walked into the store. Henry, Charlotte, and I shushed my dad as we approached Jasper.

"I wasn't talking." My dad said.

"Hey, Jasper." Henry greeted and he idly placed his arm around my shoulder, but I smacked his hand away and he retreated. This is uncomfortable.

"What are doing here?" Charlotte asked him.

"I can't stop thinking about what you guys told me last night."

"Shh!" We shushed him.

"I didn't say anything." He remarked.

"But, man, this secret is hard to keep." Jasper admitted.

My dad cleared his throat and we turned to him. "Excuse me. Excuse me."

"Henry, Charlotte, Bella, sweetie, I'm going to need you guys to go down to the basement and mop the walls." My dad instructed us as he sipped his coffee.

"But I did that yesterday." I objected.

"You missed a wall."

"Since when do we have to mop that walls?" Henry asked. "Wait, you mop the walls?"

"Yeah." I simply stated.

"Since now." My dad shrugged. "Bella needs help, because she's not very good."

"Excuse me, dad." I objected. "I'll have you know-"

"Don't argue with me!"

"But our friends Jasper's friend here." Charlotte reasoned.

"Oh, hey, no worries." My dad said and grinned. "I'll keep your little friend company."

I don't trust this.

The three of us scooted our way to the basement and motioned Jasper to keep quiet. We entered the elevator with unsure looks.

Once we got down to the basement, we found the mops and we went over to the monitor to spy on my dad and Jasper.

"See, here's the thing, I think you know something about Henry and Bella. Like maybe a secret!" My dad leaned in close to Jasper, who groaned. My dad had a golden bucket in his hands.

"Aw, Ray's playing dirty!" Henry sighed.

"We should've made a rule against bucket temptation!" I shake my head.

"Yeah, I think Henry and Bella have a secret, and I think you know what it is. Charlotte might know, but she's one tough cookie to crack." My dad told Jasper and I saw Charlotte nod at his statement. "And I'm not gonna sell Kind Tut's bucket to a boy who would keep secrets from me."

"But that's not fair!" Jasper exclaimed.

"Life isn't fair, son." My dad retorted. "You know what life often is?"

"What?"

"Unfair."

Jasper groaned, staring at the bucket.

"Come on, Jasp." Henry encouraged.

"You got this!" I cheered.

"Stay strong!" Charlotte said.

"Just tell me what you know and you'll be walking out of here with King Tut's golden bucket right in your sweaty hands!" My dad continuously teased Jasper by tossing the bucket around and Jasper's eyes didn't leave the bucket.

"Can I tell you a secret about someone else?" Jasper asked.

"No."

"My mom steals butter from restaurants." Jasper admitted.

"Don't care."

"Not surprised." I say.

"Will you please sell me the bucket?!" Jasper pleaded.

"Tell me the secret!" My dad said with eagerness.

Jasper grunted and stuttered over his words, before yelling and running around the store and exited the store in agony. Henry, Charlotte, and I smiled in relief, as my dad mentally kicked himself.

Jasper did the right thing.

——

The next day, we were back in the store and Henry and I were sweeping the floor. Charlotte got a message and Henry and I looked at her.

"Who's that?" I asked her.

"Jasper. He just got off the bus and he's on his way here." She told us, setting down her phone.

"Oh. You mean our friend who's kept the secret we told him." Henry mocked to my dad.

"I remember him." I grinned.

"That's Jasper." Charlotte smirked.

"The deal is he's got to keep your fake secret for a whole week." My dad reminded us.

"Only two days to go." Henry teases.

"Only two days to go." My dad mocked him and Jasper walked in.

"Hey, guys." He greeted.

"Oh, hey."

"Yo." I greet.

"Come to hang?" Henry asked him.

"No. I'm here to talk to your boss" Jasper denied, staring at my dad with intensity.

"Well, good." My dad fake smiled. "I like talking to you."

"Well, actually, my dad's really busy and we got a lot of work-"

"Hey!" I paused and looked at my dad. "Bella, Henry, Charlotte, please go down to the basement and rotate the lightbulbs."

"But I did that this morning." I object.

"Seriously? You actually do these weird jobs?"

"Yes, yes I do." I answered Henry.

"What does that even mean?" Charlotte asked my dad.

"It means I want you to unscrew all the light bulbs and fix Bella's terrible job of screwing them in." My dad explained. "Off you go!"

"Terrible?" I gasped and my dad rolled his eyed. "I'll have you know, I spent hours and hours fixing those light bulbs for you!"

As I complained, Henry picked me up and walked to the back with Charlotte trailing behind us.

"I don't appreciate you dishonoring my beautiful work!" I yell, but got cut off by Henry and Charlotte.

"Shut up, Bella!"

"But my work..."

"It's a freaking lightbulb." Charlotte told me as we stood by the elevator.

"Exactly." I say and they sigh.

We got down to the basement and immediately spied in my dad and Jasper.

"-I know you have a secret. If you want me to sell you this bucket, you better start talking!" My dad snapped at Jasper.

"Come on, Jasp!" I say.

"Keep the secret, buddy!" Henry encouraged.

"Don't break, Jasper."

"I will not tell you my secret. This is a simple business transaction. My sixty dollars for King Tut's bucket." Jasper negotiated.

"No deal." My dad took the bucket away.

"Come on!" Jasper cried.

"I'll tell you what. You can have it for free."

"Free?"

"Just tell me your little secret!" My dad glared at him and Jasper looked like he was gonna explode.

"Aw man, this is intense." Henry said.

"Do we really have to unscrew and rescrew all these lightbulbs?" Charlotte asked, changing the subject.

"No, don't mess up my beautiful art!" I snap. "Now, shh!"

"What's it gonna be, boy?!"

Jasper groaned but didn't say anything.

"Bucket for the secret."

Jasper groaned. "One sec!"

Jasper moved away and suddenly tased himself with a taser. We shared a confused look but didn't question it.

Jasper exhaled and returned to my dad.

"I will not tell you my secret."

"Atta boy, Jasper!" Henry smiled and my dad sighed, setting down the bucket.

"Hold on, I'll be right back." My dad went to leave, but he took the bucket with him and walked away.

We knew my dad was coming down, so we sat on the couch and waited for him to exit the elevator. The doors opened and he stopped when he saw us.

He chuckles as he stepped over the couch. "Oh, you guys think you're so smart."

"No, we think we're so right." I grinned, leaning my chin on the back of the couch.

"You're just mad because we proved Jasper can keep a secret." Charlotte remarked.

"It's not over yet." My dad said and pressed the snack machine. "One French fry."

"One French fry."

My dad grabbed the single fry and started walking back to the elevator.

"What are you gonna do with that French fry?" Charlotte asked him.

"This."

My dad ate the fry and we stood up to speak to my dad.

"Aw, Ray, don't feel bad just cause..." Henry paused and my dad looked as we sang and danced.

"We were right and you were wrong, we were right and you were wrong, we were right and you were wrong, we were right and you were wrong!"

"Ja!" We hi-fived and my dad walked into the elevator.

"Don't count your Jasper's before they hatch." My dad simply said before the door closed.

This confused and worried us.

"What do you think he meant by that?" I asked Henry and Charlotte.

"I don't know." Henry said. "But I think it's from the Bible."

We went back to the monitor and watched my dad and Jasper.

"All right. I have one hundred dollars here. If you'll—"

"Stop!" My dad cut Jasper off. "I'll sell it to you for ten bucks."

"Just ten dollars?"

"Why'd he drop the price to ten?" Henry asked with worry.

"That's too low for a tut bucket!" Charlotte exclaimed and I gazed up the the lightbulbs.

"Those are some beautiful screwed in lightbulbs."

"Bella, focus!" Henry and Charlotte snap at me and I jump at their voices.

"I'm sorry!"

"Well, you going to buy the bucket?" My dad asked Jasper, who was confused.

"I'm not telling you my secret." Jasper declared.

"Don't need to. Henry and Bella just told me down in the basement." My dad informed Jasper.

"Really? They told you they're boyfriend and girlfriend?" Jasper admitted and my dad smirked at Jasper.

"No. But you just did." My dad laughs and Jasper was in disbelief and shock.

"No!"

"Dang it!" The three of us yell in agony.

My dad went up to the camera and did that annoying song and dance to brag about him winning. Henry took the remote and tried to mute him.

"Will you mute him?" I asked Henry.

"I'm trying!" Henry exclaimed.

Eventually my dad stopped and walked away. I shut off the monitor and groaned.

——

That night, we told Jasper, Henry and I broke up. We were this close to having another person know the secret, but my dad is a huge jerk-face and doesn't
like Jasper.

"So..." Jasper began as we watched tv. "Why'd you guys break up?"

Henry and I shared a look.

"Because he killed my love for OUAT." I bitterly say.

"She has mouth sores."

"That's a stupid reason." I say to Henry.

"You're a stupid reason."

"Wow." I say and shake my head.

"Well, even though you guys broke up, can't I just see you kiss once?" Jasper begged.

"No." We both denied.

"Can't stop me from thinking about it." Jasper says and we both look at the boy, who was smirking.

Oh my gosh. Now Jasper possible ships us.
