Caved In

Arabella's POV

"Gooch! Schwoz! Don't leave!" I yell as Gooch and Schwoz scurry out the door, leaving Henry and I alone in the store.

"Let's try to cheer Ray up!" Henry suggested, but they were gone. "Come on, guys, you won't even look back at us!"

Charlotte was standing at the door heavily confused by what was happening and approached us.

"What are Gooch and Schwoz running from?" She asked us and I sighed.

"My dad. Because he's in a really bad mood." I tell her.

"Why?"

"Because it's his super anniversary." Henry replied.

"Super..." Charlotte trailed.

"It's his anniversary of when he as eight years old, when he got densitized and became indestructible." I explained to her, as Henry and I take out the items from the box Henry brought up.

"Ooh, fun! We should celebrate!"

"No!" Henry and I exclaimed and her fade fell.

"I mean 'No.'" Charlotte corrected. "But why not?"

"Ray hates his super anniversary." Henry informs her.

"Why?"

"Because when my grandfather realized he was indestructible, he took him out of school and started training him to be a superhero." I explained to Charlotte, putting a vase on the self.

Charlotte put on a duck mask. "Yeah."

"And now he feels like he missed out on on all the fun of being a kid." Henry continues for me.

Charlotte removed the mask. "Aw, that's so sad."

"He never got to go camping, ride roller coasters, he never learned how to ride a bike." I explain to her and sigh.

Charlotte shrugs. "Hmm. My uncle Roscoe never learned how to ride a bike."

"How come?" Henry asked.

"Because when he was a kid he already weighed four hundred pounds." She responded and this confused me and Henry. "The bikes just couldn't take it."

"Poor bikes" I comment and she nodded.

The door opened and a little girl walked in.

"Hey." I greet. "Need some help?"

"I was just wondering if I can try out that piano over there." She asked.

"Sure, go ahead." Charlotte tells her and the little girl goes over to the piano.

"Will you help me organize these bamboo-"

Before Charlotte could finish my dad came marching in.

"Hey. Hey, hey!" He snaps. "What's all the racket out here?!"

"Oh, it's just a customer checking out the piano." Henry informs my dad.

"Hey! Hey you!" My dad calls and gets the girls attention. "Haven't you learned how to play that crummy song yet?!"

The girls face fell and she ran out of the store crying and we turned to my dad with disbelief.

"Dad!"

"Ray!"

"Must you torture the children!" Charlotte berates my dad.

"Ah, just forget everything!" My dad groans and walks away. "Stupid super anniversary-" He stops when he picks up the loose knob off the counter. "This knob is still loose! Oh!" He slams it back down and storms off, muttering to himself.

"Well, I see why Gooch and Schwoz got out of here." Charlotte mentioned and I nodded, glancing at the door.

"I know, right." I scoff and attempt to leave, but Henry picks me up and pulls me away from the door. "Aww, Henry!"

"Aww, Henry!" He mocks and sets me down. "Don't leave us with your dad."

"Don't leave us with your dad." I mock back and he flicks my nose, making me glare at him.

The door opens and an elderly man walked in. "Excuse me, kids. I left eight thousand dollars in a rolled up newspaper. Have you seen it?!"

"No."

"Sorry."

"We haven't."

He groaned. "Ah!" He turns to leave and bangs his head and cries. "Ah! I'm alright!" He runs out and we look at one another.

"Can you believe that?" I asked them.

"No!" They both exclaim.

"Who still reads newspapers?" Henry asked and we all chuckled.

"Right?"

——

"Can I take my blindfold off now?" My dad asked as Henry, Charlotte, and I dragged him down to the Man Cave. We have a surprise for him.

"No." I deny.

"But I can't see anything!" He protested.

"Don't worry, we're not gonna let you fall!" Henry chuckles.

"Can't I just-AH!"

I gasped when my dad slipped on a skateboard and fell on his back.

"Dad!" I gasp and help him as Charlotte and Henrya argue over who put the skateboard there.

"So, this is the surprise?" My dad asked, cutting off their argument. "You guys blindfold me and try to kill me?"

"No." Charlotte sighs.

"Sorry, our bad." Henry apologized and I pulled my dad to his feet.

"Sorry, dad," I apologized.

"All right, Ray." Henry announces and we move away from my dad.

"Now whip off that blindfold!" I beam and he takes off the blindfold.

"Happy Super Anniversary!" The three of us cheer, but he was unamused. We gestured to the crazy set up again but we got nothing.

"I don't get it."

We lowered our arms and Charlotte began.

"You are about to have the ultimate kid's weekend of fun!"

"What? What are you guys talking about?" He asked us.

"Since you missed out on being a real kid..." Henry started.

"This weekend we're going to do all the fun kid stuff you missed out on." I smile at him and he seemed surprised.

"What? Really?"

"Yeah." Charlotte nodded and points to the camping equipment . "Look, we got camping equipment."

"Tickets to Six Poles Over Swellview." Henry adds, pointing to the board advertising Six Poles.

"A cool new bike." I chime in, pointing to the red bike.

"Whoa." My dad says and goes over to the bike. "Hold up. I don't know how to ride a bike."

Henry, Charlotte, and I share a look.

"Bella told us." Henry says.

"So, we're going to teach you." Charlotte offered.

"Honest!" My dad beamed.

"Of course!" I smile.

"Totally!"

"Yeah!"

"Hey, you even got us matching t-shirts!" My dad points to the matching T-shirt's.

"Yep."

Henry picks one up. "For Ray's weekend of fum."

"Fum?"

"The T-shirt store messed up." Charlotte mentioned.

"Oh, okay." Ray nods. "But why are there six t-shirts?"

"Uh.....tell Ray who's coming!" Henry nudged my shoulder and I glared at him.

"Charlotte you tell him." I grin and push her forward.

"Our friend Jasper and Henry's little sister, Piper." Charlotte informs my dad and his face scrunches up.

"Aw, no. Why?!"

"Well, Piper sprained her ankle." Henry began.

"So?"

"She's on crutches. So, when we get to Six Poles, we get to go to the front of line for all the rides." Henry explained.

"Ah...." My dad smirked before frowning. "And why are we bringing your bucket-loving friend with the sweaty hands?"

"Because that's Jasper's camping stuff." I reasoned.

"And when you get to know him, he's a lot of fum." Henry added on.

"Now put on your t-shirt and let the fum begin!" Charlotte tells my dad.

"You know, you guys are really sweet to do this for me." My dad sincerely smiles at us and I smile back. "Is it really time for me to put on my special t-shirt?"

I giggle. "Do it!"

"Sure."

"Yeah, get in there!"

My dad grabbed a shirt and moved away from us to get changed. A bell was ringing and I looked up.

"Someone's ringing the bell upstairs." I mentioned.

"I'll check it." Henry runs over to the monitor and checks who rang the bell. It was Jasper and Piper. "It's Jasper and Piper. I'll let them in."

He unlocks the door and they walk in. We turn to walk away, but we stop when we see my dad pulling on a small t-shirt that was a few sizes to small.

He grunted and looked at us. "This one might be Piper's."

——

Ray changed shirts and put on the right sized one. We were getting ready to leave, when a loud and annoying buzzing occurred and the room flashed red. We all immediately covered our ears, dropping everything.

"What's going on?" Henry asked.

That alarm means one thing and I hope it's not what I think it is.

"I don't know, but I hope its not what I think it is." My dad responded and went up to the monitor. He pressed a few buttons and the alarm stopped. "There."

"What happened?" Henry asked and my eyes grew.

"Dad..." I say and he knew.

"Go see if the elevator works." My dad told Charlotte and Henry.

"Got it."

"On it."

They went over to the elevator and Charlotte touched the button only for it to shock her.

"Ow!" She flinched. "The button shocked me."

Henry chuckled. "No way." He touched the button and it shocked him. "Ow! The button shocked me!"

"Henry, try the big sprocket." My dad ordered Henry. "Charlotte go see if the secret do opens. Bella try the tubes with me."

We all raced over to our specific places but we ran into each other and my dad pushed Charlotte and Henry away.

"Dah, it won't go up!" I heard Henry groan.

"Why won't this door open?" Charlotte asked, pushing on the door.

My dad groaned when the tubes wouldn't work.

"What? The tubes not working either?" Henry asked.

"Nope." I deny and walk away from the tubes. "We're on emergency lock down."

"What does that mean?" Charlotte asked.

"It's part of our security system. If some criminal finds out that I work down and he tries to force his way in, or if a criminal wants to kidnap Bella, Gooch can flip a switch upstairs and lock the whole place down." My dad explained. "We designed this system when the Toddler found out about Bella."

I shivered at that name and folded my arms.

"But the only people upstairs now are Piper and..." Charlotte trailed off and rolled her eyes.

"Jasper." Charlotte, Henry, and I sigh as my dad rubs his face. Henry got out his phone.

"Who you calling?"

"Jasper." Henry tells Charlotte. "To let him know to flip-"

"Nope!" I cut him off.

"What?"

"Emergency lock down mode blocks all transmitters and receivers, including cell phones." My dad informed them.

Seconds later, I heard a very loud shriek from upstairs and I immediately knew it was Piper. That girl will lose her mind without her phone.

——

My dad constantly tried to cancel the lock down, but nothing worked. This system is very strict and can not be broken, unless the power is cut or someone flips the switch upstairs. No one is going anywhere.

"Can't you cancel the lockdown?" Henry asked my dad who grunted.

"Arg! No. Not for 48 hours."

"That's two days." Charlotte pointed out.

"Yes. Your math is perfect." I sarcastically remark, standing up.

"Well, I don't get why we can't just-"

"Listen, the lock down is on a timer!" My dad interrupts Henry. "Once you flip that switch, this whole place is like a bank vault. Sealed tight. Nobody gets in or out." He sits down. "And there's nothing on this earth that can change that."

"Except for Schwoz, and he's with Gooch in Palm Springs." I add on.

"So, upstairs, Junk-N-Stuff is on lock down, too?" Henry asked.

"Uh-huh." My dad and I nod.

"Which means Jasper and Piper are trapped up there together." Charlotte tells us and my eyes grow.

"Oh my god!" Henry and I gasp.

Piper will murder Jasper.

My dad quickly races over to the monitor and switches on the camera for the store. We see Piper chasing Jasper around the store with her crutch.

"This is your fault!"

"I didn't know!"

"You ruined everything!"

"I didn't know!"

"You tried to kill me with drums!"

"I didn't know!"

My dad looks back at us with a glare and I sigh, shaking my head

This is gonna be a long two days.

——

After awhile of just sitting here, my dad had an idea. Using a generator could generate enough power to make one of us shoot up the tube and hopefully escape this place to get help and call Schwoz.

"And just one more battery to connect..." My dad says as he connects a battery to a wire.

"Okay, the panel's all set." I tell my dad.

"Good. Now, hopefully these batteries will produce enough power to get one tube working so we can get out of here." My dad explained.

"Who's going up the tube?" Henry asked.

"Bella or Charlotte." My dad mentioned.

"Why?" Henry asked.

"Because we don't have much power here, and they're the lightest." My dad remarked. "So, choose who's going up."

"You are." Charlotte and I both say and then frown.

"Okay. Rock Paper Scissors." I say and we play Rock Paper Scissors.

"Rock paper scissors." We say and she chose rock and I chose scissors.

She laughs. "I win."

I grumble and wrinkle my nose. "Whatever."

"Okay, Bella. Get up there." My dad says as I throw on my jacket.

"Fine." I agreed and stood under the tube slot.

"You better come back for us." Henry warned me.

"And bring a pizza!" My dad added.

"A big pizza!" Charlotte chimes in.

"Just get me out of here first." I tell them.

"Stand by." My dad stays and turns on the machine, causing all the lights to flicker. The tube slowly encased me and I was nervous.

"Good." My dad says. "Now, go for it."

"Up the tube!" I shout and I was slowly being sucked up the tube. I was barley moving, but it was something. My body was almost up the tube and I couldn't see the others anymore.

"Increase suckage!" I heard Henry shout.

"Increasing suckage!" My dad says and I felt the suckage increase by a lot and I was completely sucked in.

"Bye!" I yell.

Moments later, I felt all the power stop and I was shot back down the tube. I landed on the ground with a thud and grunted as I made contact.

My dad, Charlotte, and Henry stood there with shocked expressions when I landed.

"Ugh!" I groaned and they didn't move.

"You didn't get the big pizza." Henry mentioned.

"No, I didn't get the big pizza!" I snap and brush my hair back. "I'm fine! Thanks for asking!"

My dad rushes over and helps me to my feet.

——

It's been officially eight hours since Jasper set off the emergency lock down mode and I'm starving. Henry, Charlotte, and I were watching Jasper and Piper on the monitor. I tuned out their conversation until they mentioned their food situation and I turned off the monitor.

"We all better get out of here before those two kill each other." I tell Henry and Charlotte agreed.

"They won't kill each other." Henry protested. "She'll kill him."

I heard something move and we turn to my dad, who was in a downcast and upset attitude.

"I knew I never should've got excited about my dumb super anniversary." My dad sighs.

"Dad." I say. "Don't be upset. It makes me sad."

"Hey. I'm really sorry Jasper got us trapped down here." Charlotte apologized.

"And ruined the fun weekend we had planned for you." Henry added on.

"It's not your guys' fault." My dad dismisses, walking up to us. "My Super Anniversary is cursed."

"Hey. Maybe the weekend's not ruined." Henry smiles.

"What do you mean?" My dad asked.

"What do you mean?" Charlotte and I repeat to the sidekick.

"All the stuff we planned for your super anniversary can still happened right here in the Man Cave." Henry explained to us.

"No it can't." My dad objected.

"What are you saying, kid." I asked.

"Words!" Henry exclaimed. "We got all this cool stuff we brought and there's other junk around here we an use."

"Kid-"

"We can still go camping just indoors." Henry continue our excitement. "There's even enough room down here to reach Ray how to ride a bike."

"His enthusiasm's infectious!" I beam and Charlotte nodded.

"What do you say, Ray?!" Henry asked my dad, smiling.

"I say..." He trails off and picks up three shirts. "Let's have some fum!"

We all cheer with excitement and let the fum begin.

——

"Don't let go." My dad frantically tells Henry and I as we hold him on the bike. "Don't let go!"

"You're fine!" I assure him.

"You're also indestructible." Charlotte reminds him.

"Well, I still don't wanna fall!" Ray objects.

"Just look ahead, keep your back straight, your butt rigid, and pump your legs until you get to Charlotte." Henry instructed my dad and he exhales.

"Okay." Henry and I gently lead my dad forward until he as balanced enough on the bike and let him go. "I'm riding! I'm riding!"

The three of us applauded my father, who was successfully riding his bike.

Proud daughter moment. Even with training wheels, I'm still proud of him.

After Ray rode around the Man Cave a few times, we took off the training wheels.

"Okay, dad." I tell him. "No training wheels."

"Ready?" Charlotte asked him.

"Locked and loaded, baby." My dad stated.

"Okay." Henry says.

"Do it!" My dad declared and we gently pushed my dad forward. He was wobbling quite a bit, but managed to stay steady.

We cheered him on as he rode forward.

"I'm doing it! I'm riding on two wheels! Ah!"

We stopped cheering him when he ran into the monitor and crashed. He landed upside down with the bike on the monitor chair and his foot in the wheel.

"I'm okay."

The bike caught on fire and this just confused us.

——

After teaching my dad to ride a bike, sort of, Henry, Charlotte, and I set up a ride similar to one at Six Poles. My dad was watching Jasper and Piper attempt to cry for help by screaming and playing the drums. It wasn't doing anything, because no one can hear them.

"That is the worst cover of 'Help' I've ever heard." My dad mentioned.

"Ray, come on, we're ready." Henry tells my dad, who excitedly ran over to us.

"Welcome to..."

"Six Poles Over Swellview!" The three of us announced and gestured to the very downgraded makeshift of The Flume.

"You ready to ride The Flume?" Henry asked Ray.

"Yeah. What's a flume?" My dad asked.

"Just get in the log." Charlotte told my dad.

"That's a cooler." My dad protested.

"Pretend it's a log." I argue.

"I'll get in the log." My dad agreed and got settled in the log by using our careful instructions. We had to make sure he didn't unhook it or else he would slide down.

"Okay." I smile and the three of us run over to the end of ride.

"Now what?" My dad asked and Henry grabbed a microphone.

"Please keep your hands and feet inside the log at all times." Henry announces. "Mantegna los mangos y los pies adentro del tronco en todo moments, por favor."

"Gracias!" My dad shouted and sent down the microphone. Charlotte and I were both holding a cup of water to splash him at the end.

"Now, pull the pin!" I inform him.

My dad pulls the pin out and the cooler slides down the ramp and right as it runs into the pillows, Charlotte and I splash him with water as Henry snaps a picture.

"Yes!" My dad cheers. "That was a lot of fum!"

——

After the Six Poles experience, we set up the tents and camping equipment. I've been camping once and that was with my grandpa, he took me camping when my dad was busy.

Right now, we were roasting marshmallows over a fire we set up. We made sure it was carefully set up so it wouldn't burst into flames.

"I didn't know that camping involved marshmallows and fire." My dad mentioned. "This is fantastic."

"Yeah." Henry nod. "Are you sure it's cool to have this fire in here?"

"Oh yeah." My dad scoffed. "But because I'm an adult and I'm supervising this activity."

Well, he's a man child, who is consider an adult to the world. I see him as a big, tall, goofy, man child.

"So, you're saying that no kid should ever try this without adult supervision?" I clarified with my dad.

"Exactly."

We all stare ahead for a few seconds before returning to this activity.

"So, you having a good time?" Charlotte asked my dad.

"Because, you know, this isn't exactly the weekend we planned." Henry tells him.

"We wanted it to be a lot more than this." I add on.

"Are you three kidding me?" My dad asked us. "This is amazing. You guys taught me how to ride and crash a bike. You showed me what riding a Flume is like. We're camping."

"Yeah!" Henry nodded. "And I bet we helped you forget that you never had a normal childhood."

"Yeah. Until you said that." My dad commented with his smile fading. Suddenly, all the lights began to flash again and this caught our attention.

"Uh-oh" Henry and I say.

"What's with the lights?" Charlotte asked.

"The generators must be giving out." My dad remarked. "There must be a flashlight in that cabinet over there."

"I'll check." Henry offered and set down his marshmallow, before running over to the cabinet. "Hey, what's this?"

I stopped making my s'more and looked at Henry. He was holding a clock with wires attached to it.

"What do you got there?" My dad asked as we stand up and approach him.

"A clock with wires coming out of it." Henry answered.

"Let me see that." My dad said and took the clock from Henry. "There's something written on the back."

"This is Schwoz's handwriting." I point to the handwriting.

"Lock down timer. Do not touch." My dad reads and my eyes grow.

"Timer?" Henry and I asked.

"You said the lock down was forty-eight hours." Henry questioned my dad.

"And that nothing could change that." Charlotte added on.

"Yeah, but if this clock is the timer for the lock down..." My dad began and we all realized what that meant.

We can change the time.

"Try moving the hands forward!" I eagerly suggest and my dad moves the hands forward until the room buzzed and all the machines and devices switched back on.

We all cheered with excitement and Charlotte and I rushed over to the tubes together.

"The elevator works!" Henry beams as the elevator doors open.

"So does my sprocket!" My day smiles as he opens the sprocket.

Charlotte and I made tubes encase our bodies.

"So do the tubes!" I smile and they turn to us. "Bye!

"Bye!" Charlotte waves.

"Up the tube!" We both shouted and got shot up the tubes.

Despite being trapped in the Man Cave for hours upon hours, it was a fun day. My dad experienced a lot and had a small taste of what it was like to be a kid.

——

FYI! Bella did a lot of normal kid stuff with her grandfather or grandmother(if she was alive or something, idk), because they wanted their granddaughter to have a normal childhood. Yes, Bella was adopted when Ray was a superhero, but her grandfather took her to many kid places and such when Ray was busy being a superhero.

This is just to clarify any confusion. I'm unaware if Ray's father is still alive or not, but I believe he is.
