Captain Jerk
Arabella's POV
"Ooh, here's a good one!" Schwoz smiles at his tablet.
Here's the situation that's going down. My dad was filmed destroying two kids lemonade stand with a mailbox and everyone in Swellview thinks he purposely destroyed it, which is not the case. He saw a dangerous spider and tried to kill it with a mailbox, but no one knows this and it's turned into one huge misconception. Now everyone hates my dad.
"Read it." My dad rolled his eyes.
"Captain Man, the only difference between you and a box of poop is the box." Schwoz read and I snickered.
"Don't snicker." My dad snapped and I became silent. The elevator doors opened and Henry and Charlotte walked in.
"We're here! Did you guys see the news?" Henry asked us.
"Yea, we saw the news. Everyone hates me now". My dad bitterly replied.
"Well, why'd you smash those kid's lemonade stand?" Charlotte asks my dad.
"A dollar a cup's that not much." Henry reasoned.
"I didn't smash the lemonade because of the price." My dad objected.
"Then why'd you do it?" Henry asked.
"Because when the little girl said 'one dollar', I noticed a spider on the lemonade stand. A red jabber!" My dad explained, making hands like a spider.
"A red jabber?!" Henry asked.
"Those are deadly." Charlotte mentioned.
"I know!" My dad said. "That's why I smashed it
before it could hurt those kids!"
"Oh." Henry and Charlotte say and Gooch, Schwoz, and I nod.
Schwoz stood up. "Well, then I say, who cares?"
"Apparently all of Swellview cares." I mumble, earning a glare from my dad.
"So, what if everybody hates you know." Schwoz shrugged, ignoring my comment.
"I'm a superhero! I don't want to be hated by everybody!" My dad protested.
"Well, you are." Schwoz said and my dad groaned.
"Dah! What am I going to do?!"
"Why don't you just make a video apologizing?" I suggested, standing up from the couch.
"Yeah. That's good." Henry agreed and Charlotte nodded. "The public loves it when famous people beg for forgiveness."
"No. No!" My dad disagreed, stubbornly. "I did nothing wrong! I don't care what people think of me!"
——
"I'm Captain Man, and I care very much what you, the people, think of me."
——
"So, most of you have seen the viral video of me in which I used a mailbox to demolish a lemonade stand run by two small children. Since then, I've read many of your comments, very hurtful comments, some suggesting that I should do things to myself, some which are physically impossible. But that video didn't tell the real story, I spotted a dangerous spider, and used the mailbox to beat the spider to death. That's the truth. And if any of you were upset by the video, I am truly sorry."
The video ended and my dad slapped the monitor and smiled at us.
"Huh?!"
"That was perfect!" I smile.
"Yeah?"
We all started talking at once, agreeing that it was a great video.
"Thanks, guys." My dad smiled. "Hey, go online and check what people are saying about me now."
We all agreed and got out our phones or other mobile devices. I scrolled through the comments and articles and they weren't exactly good. They were the opposite of good.
"Well? Bella?"
I looked up and gave him a friendly smile. "Uh...this one says. 'I can't believe Captain Man would lie to us like that. He's still a big jerk.'"
My dad shrugged. "Well, that's a little negative."
"Henry?"
"Uh, this one says. Captain Man, you liar. I hate you." Henry reads and I cringe, rubbing the back of my neck.
"Still negative." My dad nods. "Charlotte?"
"This one says, 'Oh, please. The only reason Captain Man apologized is to make us think he's sorry." Charlotte read.
"Well, yeah!" My dad remarked like it was obvious. "Gooch. Read."
"Yo, Captain Man, why don't you..." Gooch trails off and turns to us, closing the screen. "My religious beliefs prevent me from reading the rest out loud."
Gooch stands up and heads for the elevator.
"Schwoz?" My dad asked with barely any hope
"This guy just posted a picture of you, but he changed your head to something else." Schwoz explained.
"Changed my head? What did he change it to?" My dad frowned at the screen and Henry and I joined him. "Oh! That's horrible! What is that?"
We see my dad on the screen with a giant poop emoji covering his face.
"That's poop." I simply say and my dad groaned loudly.
——
Later, we were upstairs in the store, eating corn on a cobs, trying to figure out ways to make people forgive my dad.
I don't question our food choices, because I suggested the corn. I love corn.
"Oh, I have an idea!" Charlotte suddenly said and we went up to her. "Okay, what do people want to know most about Captain Man?"
"What he wears under his man suit?" Schwoz answered and we looked at him, muttering disgust.
"Ew!"
"What? No!"
"Schwoz!"
"Well, they want to know where I live and work and who my daughter is, but no one is finding out about Bella." My dad replies and I laugh.
"That would be chaotic and bad." I added.
"Okay. So, we have a contest." Charlotte began.
"So, we have a contest." Henry repeated.
"And the winners get a private tour of the Man Cave." Charlotte continued.
"Of the Man Cave!" Henry repeated and I rolled my eyes.
"Wait, we can't reveal the secret location of the Man Cave." My dad objected.
"We don't have too. Gooch will meet the winners somewhere else, put them in sacks."
"And then he can bring them here and send them down the tubes." Henry finishes for Charlotte.
"And send them down the tubes!" Charlotte repeated and glared at Henry. "Annoying, isn't it?"
"But everybody hates me." My dad protested, tossing his corn over the counter. "Why is a tour of the Man Cave going to make people like me again?"
"Because you know how people are." I reasoned. "They get mad about stuff."
"But as soon as you give them something new to talk about..."
"They forget they were mad and focus on new things." Charlotte concluded for Henry and I.
My dad nodded with a grin. "Okay! But what kind of contest to pick the winners?"
"We put up a website so people can go online and try to guess some big number." Charlotte explained. "The first three people who get it right, win."
"And I know the perfect URL for the website." Henry chimed in. "Guessthatnumber.com."
Charlotte and I just stood there while my dad and Henry liked the name.
"That's pretty clever." I sarcastically remark and Henry made a face.
——
"Number guessing fever is taking Swellview by storm. As people all over town try to win a special VIP tour of Captain Man and Kid Danger's secret headquarters. So far, two people have guessed the secret number, which leaves only one spot left. Here's Trent with more details."
Trent wasn't paying instead he was trying to guess the secret number
"Trent?"
"Shh! Don't bug me! I'm trying to guess the number! Agh!"
——
This number guessing contest has gone insane. People are addicted to this contest and have spent days trying to figure it out and only two people haven't figured out the number. It's been four days, and people haven't left their homes for anything.
Henry was worried Jasper might win, and figure out Henry is Kid Danger, but that will most likely never happen.
——
'Well, three luck winners will soon be VIP guests in the secret headquarters of Captain Man and Kid Danger."
My dad, Schwoz, and I all smiled at one another.
"You know, it's so great of Captain Man to do this." Mary interrupted.
"I wasn't done reading the story." Trent mentioned.
"Oh, sorry." Mary apologized, hanging her head.
"Are you?" Trent asked. "Because you do this all the time."
My dad shut off the tv and yelled with excitement. "Dah! Did you hear that? They love me now! BOOSH!"
"Yeah, they didn't even mention the horrible thing you did to those kids lemonade stand!" Schwoz beamed.
"I know!" My dad laughed and karate chopped the air. "Hiy-Ah!" My dad began to dance happily and I smiled at my phone.
"And your facepage has four thousand new thumbs ups!" I inform my dad and he laughs.
"Oh! This whole VIP tour thing was the perfect idea!"
The elevator doors opened and Henry and Charlotte ran in.
"We got to cancel the VIP tour thing!" Henry exclaimed.
"What?" I asked as our faces fall.
"One of the winners is my little sister, Piper."
"Really? Who's she going to bring as her guest?" My dad wondered and smirked. "She going to bring your mom?"
"I don't know who she's bringing". Henry shrugged.
"Henry's afraid that Piper's going to recognize him." Charlotte explained.
"She won't." I denied. "You'll be in your Kid Danger suit and mask."
"Well, yeah, but she's gonna be down here with us for, like, an hour!" Henry panicked and my dad approached him.
"Calm down your pants." My dad assured him. "Schwoz can disguise your face."
"Really?" Henry asked.
"Yeah, I give you good face disguise." Schwoz offered.
"What about my voice?" Henry asked.
"Can you disguise his voice, too?" Charlotte asked.
"Easy." Schwoz pulled it a small device. "Look." He places it in his next and cleared his throat. "Excuse me!" It was a young and female voice he was using. "Henry, will you help me find my mommy?"
"Ooh! Quit it!" Henry cringed, backing away with my dad. "That's so creepy!"
"Will you buy me a pony?"
My dad jumps back in fear. "Aah!"
"Stop that!"
"Haha." I laughed and got a glare from my dad and Henry. "A little girl's voice scares you."
——
The following day was the VIP tour thing and Charlotte and I were helping finish the final touches of the set up. There was a big banner, a food table, decorations, chairs for the guests, and more.
Charlotte told me that Piper is bringing Jasper as her plus one and now Henry is nervous that they might recognize him, but Schwoz is busy disguising his face so that might help his problem.
I'm honestly surprised no one has figured out Henry is Kid Danger. I mean, is Charlotte the only smart person in swellview, or is it just me that sees that, because Henry and Kid Danger look very similar. The mask and different styled hair doesn't do much, but I guess people don't bother to decode it.
Imagine if Piper found out? She has a crush on Kid Danger, let's not forget that. Piper has a crush on her brother.
I need a few moments to process that.
As we were finishing setting up, Schwoz ran out and smiled. "Hey, look who's here."
Henry appeared from the storage room and he actually looked different. It's a good different, he looked some what attractive. Oh, that's weird for me to say. I'll shut up.
"Wow." I say as Charlotte and I approach him.
"Woah." She says and we both touch him face that was fake.
"How do I look?" Henry asked.
"Completely unrecognizable." My father tells him.
"It's impressive." I tell Henry and he grins at me.
"Good."
"Wait, what about his voice?" My dad asked.
"Oh, yeah." Schwoz said and pulled out the voice manipulation device and he placed it inside Henry's suit. "Now, sing the little pea pod song."
"I'm a little green pea pod green and flat..." We were all taken back by his incredibly deep voice and I smiled. "Squeeze me in the middle and squirt out my beans! Oh, man! This is crazy!"
I feel like it's a little much, considering Kid Danger is only thirteen years old, but if helps him not get recognized then you take what you can get.
"Henry, good luck." Schwoz told Henry and looked at us. "Bella, Charlotte, let's go."
"Okay." We both say and head toward the elevator.
"Woah. Where are you taking them? They can just stay in Bella's room until the tour is over." My father explained and we looked at him.
"To pick my sister up from the airport." Schwoz told us.
"You're sister who looks like a horse?" My dad asked.
"Yeah, that one." Schwoz said.
"Come on." Charlotte remarked. "It's not nice to say your sister looks like a horse."
"Show her a pic." I tell Schwoz and Charlotte looks at me. Schwoz pulled up a photo and Charlotte gasped.
"Oh!"
Henry came over and was shocked. "That is one crazy looking lady!"
"Her name is Winnie." Schwoz told us Henry and my dad began to laugh while I just grinned.
"For real?" My dad asked and they laughed, as they teased her name and made horse noises.
"That's unfortunate." I tell Schwoz and smile under my hand.
——
Driving with Schwoz is a little strange, because his head is barely taller then the wheel and it feels unsafe. Charlotte and I were uncomfortable about the situation, but didn't say anything.
"Hey, if we get pulled over by a cop, one of you switch places with me real quick, okay?" Schwoz told us and this confused us.
"Why?" We asked.
"Because I'm not legally aloud to drive." He admitted.
"You don't have a driver's license?" I asked him with disbelief.
"No. I do, I do." He assured this and this relieved Charlotte and I.
"But it says I have to be wearing my glasses because I can't see at night." Schwoz informed us and this scared me.
We're gonna die.
"You can't see!?" Charlotte asked him.
"No, I can see." He protested. "I know we're in a car."
We looked ahead and we saw some trash cans ahead.
"Can you see those trash cans?" I asked him.
"Huh?"
Schwoz ran into the trash cans, making the car hit the curb and causing the trash cans to hit the car. Charlotte and I grabbed each other for a few seconds.
"We'll try to warn you sooner next time." I bitterly tell Schwoz who had wide eyes.
"Yeah, I'd appreciate it!" He snapped and I rolled my eyes.
——
We picked up Winnie from the airport and she looked weirder in person. It makes me wonder if one of Schwoz parents wasn't human and he just got lucky to be human. Because her face, appetite, voice, and all around aroma just says 'horse.'
Winnie say in the back while Charlotte and I stayed up front with Schwoz.
I glanced back at Winnie and she smiled at me with her horse like teeth. I turned forward and cringed.
"So, how was your flight?" Charlotte asked, cutting the silence.
"Bad. They gave me no snacks." She remarked. "Schwoz, you bring me a snack?"
"Yeah, yeah." Schwoz sighed. "Bella, there's some sugar cubes in that bag there."
"Okay." I awkwardly say and pick up the bag. I took out some sugar cubes and handed them to Winnie. "Here you go."
She smiled at me, before she ate them from my hand and this disgusted me. I could feel her saliva and tongue all over my hand.
"Oh!" I cringe and Charlotte wrinkled her nose in disgust. "Her tongue feels weird on my hand."
She finished and I pulled my hand away. I wiped it on the car seat and shivered.
"Tell me about it." Schwoz scoffed and Winnie began to laugh. It wasn't a normal laugh, it sounded like a horse whinning and I sighed.
"Oh, boy..."
