Beauty and The Bully
Arabella's POV
You're weird.
You're too skinny
Henry's dating you out of pity
Gain some weight, skinny freak
Ever heard of makeup?
It's been over a month since I've received the note in my locker, and the bullying has gotten worse. It's gone from notes in my locker, to finding notes in my bag, and somehow this person got my phone number. Throughout each day, I receive incredibly rude messages from this anonymous person and it's absolutely awful.
Charlotte's the only one who knows the whole story behind this and she is livid about it. Not only about this unknown bully, but also that I haven't told Henry or anyone else.
I want to, but I want to figure this out on my own. I'm independent and want to resolve this situation on my own, even if I do need actual help.
I literally have no idea who this bully is, but I'm determined to figure out who it is. It just bothers me, because I did nothing wrong and this person just decided to pick on me. What did I do to deserve this kind of treatment.
I get it, I'm weird and have a quirky and strange personality, but I don't see a reason to bully someone who's different. I get picked on for being myself and that's wrong.
I wish I could ignore this problem and wait for it to go away, but this is real life and that can't physically happen. This isn't a television show.
I was sat in Charlotte's room and we were discussing my problem. She was pacing around her room, thinking of ways to solve it without telling Henry or anyone else. She hated it, because all her plans involved Henry, Jasper, or my dad, but I told her not to.
"Bella, this is impossible." Charlotte groaned, finally stopping her pacing and sitting down on her bed. "We don't have any proof on who is sending these stupid notes. It'd be easy if we had more people to help us out-"
"No." I interrupt and lay down on her other bed that I was using. "This is my problem, I need to solve it."
"You've been saying that for over a month and look where we are?" Charlotte asked me and I shifted my eyes to her. "Nowhere!"
"I see that, but it takes time to solve mysteries." I reasoned.
"But this is serious." Charlotte protested. "This is about you and your life. It's affecting you, Bella."
"You don't know that." I remark and turn over to my side.
"When did you start wearing makeup?" She asked me and I flipped back over to face Charlotte.
"I've always worn makeup."
"You wore mascara, but ever since you've gotten those notes, you've been wearing a lot more." Charlotte reasoned and motioned to my face. "Eyeshadow, eye liner, concealer, foundation, blush, lips gloss, you never wore any of that. You said it took to much effort to put on any makeup for less than twelve hours a day, it's a waste of time. Now look at you."
I looked down at the quilt of the bed and sighed. She's right, I've been wearing too much makeup for one opinion that doesn't matter.
"I'm surprised Henry hasn't noticed the change."
"Henry doesn't like to point out stuff like that." I reasoned.
"He will point it out, if this gets worse and he asks you about why you're changing." Charlotte argued and I sat up to confront her, but she continued to talk. "Henry adores you and doesn't want you to change. None of us do, this is just one opinion and it shouldn't affect you and how you look or act."
I looked down at my hands and felt tears fill up in my eyes.
"What did I do?" I asked her and felt myself begin to cry.
Charlotte got up and embraced me in her arms.
"You did nothing." Charlotte said and rubbed my back, calming me down. "This person is just a loser who has nothing better to do and decides to pick on those who have everything they want."
Charlotte pulls away and wipes my tears away, ignoring my mascara that was running down my face.
This is why I hate makeup. It gets everywhere.
"Arabella, we need to tell someone." Charlotte declared and sat down next to me, taking a hold of my hands. "It doesn't need to be Henry, but-"
"No." I say and sniffle. "I need Henry."
I need Henry, I realized he's the person I need the most in this situation. I need him to comfort me and hold me and just be there for me
Charlotte smiles. "Good, because I wasn't gonna take no for an answer."
"Will he be upset?" I asked her.
"Oh, yes."
"Oh..."
"But not with you."
——
I left Charlotte's house and made my way to Henry's place. He was home alone for the night, because his parents went out for dinner and Piper is at a sleepover. I didn't bother to fix myself, because I didn't feel like it. My hair was a little messy and my makeup was ruined due to my crying.
I walked onto his porch and peaked through the window to see Henry siting on the couch. I knocked on his door and he turned his head, but I moved away so he couldn't see me.
"Who is it?"
"It's me."
Henry didn't reply after that and the door opened moments later. He had a smile on his face but it disappeared when he saw my tear stained face.
"Airy, baby." He said and grabbed my face. "What's wrong?"
"I'm sorry." I apologized, beginning to cry again. "I've should've told you this a while ago, but I was scared."
Henry didn't responded and took me into his arms. I immediately hugged back with my arms wrapping around his neck like my life depended on it.
"What is it, baby?" He asked, rubbing my back soothingly.
"I'm getting bullied at school."
"What?!"
Henry pulled away and pulled me inside, shutting the door. I stared up at him and could see the shock in his eyes.
"I'm sorry, I didn't tell you." I apologized again and he ran his fingers through his hair out of frustration.
"It's not that I'm upset about." Henry told me. "It's the fact that someone is bullying you."
I sniffled again and wiped my eyes, but the tears didn't stop.
Henry hugged me again and soothed my back, trying to calm me down.
"Who would do this? You're so amazing and beautiful." Henry told me and he sighed into my shoulder. He pulled away so we were at arms length and he kissed my forehead. "Baby, I'm so sorry."
"Don't be sorry, you did nothing." I tell him and pull a note out of my locker. "I've been getting this notes everyday for the past mouth."
Henry took the note and skimmed over it. His face formed an angry glare and I took a step a back, scared of how he would react.
"Henry..." I softly say and he crumbles the note, tossing it to the ground.
"We are finding this jerk and teaching them a lesson!" Henry exclaimed out of anger and I flinched at his tone of voice.
"Henry, calm down-"
"No!" He snapped and paced by me. "This disgraceful jerk can't say this about you!"
"But, we don't know who this person is." I reasoned with him and he turned to me. "I've been trying, but so far no luck."
"Well, now you have Kid Danger to help." Henry grinned and folded his arms.
"No." I denied him and his face falls. "This is my problem, my issue. I don't want or need a superhero to save me from it. This person is obviously too afraid to confront me themselves. I need to do it myself, Henry."
Henry's mouth formed into a proud smile and nodded. "That's my girl."
"But, I could use some help to get this makeup off my face." I added, gesturing to my makeup stained face.
"Of course!" Henry chuckled. "Piper has some makeup remover in her room."
"Thanks." I awkwardly say and Henry quickly grabs my arms before I could leave.
"Please stop wearing all this makeup, you don't need it." Henry told me and I blushed at his words. "Don't let this person affect you."
"Thanks, Hen."
I removed his hand and rushed upstairs to clean my face. I went into Piper's room and searched her vanity for makeup remover. I found the remover and started to remove the makeup off my face and took a long look at my face.
I did look different with all that makeup and I really didn't like it. All makeup is, is a mask that hides natural beauty that every person has and I let some jerk ruin my view on that.
I wiped most of the makeup off and I could see the natural beauty I have. I have bright browns, nice eyebrows, tan skin, soft pink lips, and a nice smile. My skin isn't flawless, I have pupils and zits, but that's normal for teenagers.
I gave myself a smile. "You are natural beautiful."
Once I finished wiping off all the makeup, I returned downstairs and saw Henry there.
"I'm back."
He turns to me and smiles. "There's my beautiful girlfriend." I blushed and Henry hugged me tightly.
I giggled as my arms wrapped around his neck. "Thank you."
Henry pulled away and kissed my lips.
"I think I figured on who sent this note."
My eyes lit up at his statement. "Really?! Who?"
"Amelia Okerlund." He told me and he pulled me over to the couch. "The handwriting on this note is similar to hers."
I looked over the note, but I was confused. "How can you tell?"
"Because, it's the same hand writing I've seen on her papers. She sits next to me in English class." Henry told me. "And look, she missed spell Beauty."
I noticed that the word 'beauty' was spelled 'beautey.'
"And?"
"Amelia spells 'beauty' the same way this person does." Henry reasoned, gesturing to the note. "It's the only explanation."
"But, why would she attack me?" I asked and Henry wraps his arm around me. "I did nothing to her."
"Who knows?" Henry asked and I leaned my head on his shoulder. "But, we have the identity of this bully and can take them down."
"But I don't want to hurt her." I protest. "I just want to shove her down a well and watch her drown."
Henry snickered at my comment and wrapped me in his arms.
"God, I love you."
——
The next day at school, Henry, Charlotte, Jasper, and I had a plan to catch Amelia in action. All of us were gonna scour the school, seeing if Amelia does anything suspicious by my locker. I was determined to catch her in action and confront her.
It was 7:45 in the morning, which is around the time most kids arrive at school and the perfect time to catch Amelia. I was leaning by the staircase of the school and sipping on my coffee when I got a call from Jasper.
"Hey, Jasp."
"I see Amelia."
"Where?"
"She's walking into the school entrance."
"Alright."
I ended the call and tried to hide myself from her. The doors opened and I saw Amelia walk in with a coffee in her hands. Amelia is a short, blonde girl with very shy personality. Every time I've seen her, she seems so sweet and kind, so it's surprising that she could be the bully.
Every coin has two sides, just like most people have two sides I guess.
I tossed my finished coffee into the trash and casually pretended to check my phone. I watched Amelia go up to her locker and do something, before she shut it and she went right up to my locker. I saw Henry walk into the school and her gave me a nod.
I watched Amelia take out a small note and slid it inside my locker.
With her being oblivious, I walked right up to her and folded my arms.
"Need something?"
She jumped at the sound of my voice and dropped the note right on the floor, near my feet.
"Bella!" She smiled and awkwardly chuckled. "You scared me."
"What are you doing?" I asked her and bent down, grabbing the note. Her eyes grew at the note, before smiling.
"I just had to get my French textbook." She informed me.
I laughed lightheartedly. "From my locker?" Her eyes shifted to the ground, nervously. "And I thought you were taking German?"
"Why would I need to take that class? I'm part German." She reasoned and I raised an eyebrow at her, folding my arms. She realized her mistake and groaned.
"Oh...."
I sighed and she seemed nervous. "Now that I've caught you, what are you really doing?"
"Nothing really, just putting these notes into your locker." She smiled and gestured to the note I had in my hand.
"You mean these hurtful and rude notes that I've been receiving for a month?" I asked her and she shifted her weight onto one side, giving me a smug look.
"Looks like I've been caught." She said and I glared at her.
"Why, Amelia? Why?" I asked her and glanced behind me to see Henry, Charlotte, and Jasper standing by, casually. "What did I do to you to deserve this?"
"What did you do?" She asked me and scoffed. "You stole Henry from me."
I laughed. "Stole? He was never yours and Henry is not an object."
"No, he's not, but you don't deserve him." She protested and slammed her hand on the lockers beside us. "You're so weird and ugly, I don't understand why Henry likes you."
I bit my lip at her words and looked down in sorrow.
"Hey!"
We both turned and Henry was walking up to us. "Are you the one who's bullying, Bella?"
Amelia pretended to act innocent. "Of course not! She's just asking me about some notes I borrowed from her."
I gave her a look and she just smiled up at Henry.
"You liar!" I exclaimed at her and Charlotte and Jasper came up to us.
She noticed the small crowd of the four of us and panicked. "Fine! It's me, but she deserves it!"
"No, she doesn't." Charlotte protested and. "And if you continue to do this, I'm gonna send this to the entire school and the principal." Charlotte held up her phone and I smirked.
Yep, we recorded our entire conversation.
"You wouldn't." Amelia snarled and I chuckled.
"We won't, unless you promise to stop doing this to me." I negotiated with her and she glared at me.
"You can't make me."
"Really?" I laughed and took Charlotte's phone "Because, all I have to do it hit send and the entire school and the principal will know that you're not so sweet and innocent like everyone thinks you are."
"And, everyone knows Bella's friends with Kid Danger." Henry added and I grinned. "So, he can step in and take care of this situation."
"Okay! Okay!" She exclaimed and huffed. "I'll stop sending the notes."
"You promise?" I asked her.
"I promise." She said and walked by us with a heavy glare. "Now leave me alone!"
We watched her walk away and the four of us cheered.
Henry and I hugged and he kissed my head.
"Thank you, guys." I smiled. "And I'm sorry for not telling you about this. I just didn't know how."
"No worries." Jasper assured me and rubbed my shoulder. "All that matters, is that it's taken care of."
"Exactly." Charlotte smiled and the bell rang. "See ya in class."
Jasper and Charlotte walked away, leaving Henry and I alone.
"I'm proud of you." Henry said and pushed a piece of hair behind my ear.
"Thanks." I smile and leaned my head into his hand. "Couldn't have done it without you."
"Just know that I'm always here for you." Henry told me with a smile. "Never leaving you."
"And I'm never leaving you." I tell him and he pulls me in for a kiss. "I love you." I say as we pull away.
"I love you too."
Henry wraps his arm around me and and we make our way to class.
——
That night, I was in my room and I was gazing at the unopened note Amelia had wrote me. I decided not to open it and throw it away instead. I got up to throw it away and I saw myself in my mirror.
I lifted up my shirt and rubbed my hand over my stomach.
There's no doubt that I'm incredibly skinny, but it's not a healthy skinny. I eat like crazy, but don't gain any weight and it's a little sad. I'm only 85 pounds and I don't have a lot of muscle mass either.
What Amelia had been saying to me is hurtful, but it's also mostly true. Henry can say whatever he wants about me, but I don't like the way my stomach or body looks. Maybe it's a medical issue that just makes me skinny and not have a lot of body fat, or I'm just a skinny person.
Either why, I don't like my body and I want to change it.
——
Bullying is solved, but the body image is still an issue. What lengths will Bella go through to change her body before she goes to far and severely hurts herself? Can Henry save her? How does Ray react to this? Is this the last time we'll see Amelia?
You will find out as the season continues forward.
