Fifty

The sound of a heavy door opening filled the silence.

Your head moved.

He moved as well, as if he was trying to hide from you.

Only the devil knew how much time had passed, but Price refused to talk to you.

He was mad.

He didn't want to waste his last minutes by arguing.

This mission was a fail.

And it was your fault.

Steps sounded.

Shadows spread across the overgrown concrete floor.

With one eye you glanced up. It still made you feel nauseous to open both eyes.

The woman from earlier appeared.

"You...", you mumbled with your eyebrows pulled together as she gifted you a smile and walked to the other side to give her attention to John.

"What a pity...", she purred and forced him by the chin to look her in the eyes. "What a handsome man. Not one of us."

His face was like a mask of stone.

But you couldn't help and feel annoyed. A low growl got stuck in your throat.

"Hands off, lady.", you smirked to hide the fact that it bothered you how close she was. "I've called shots on him already."

She chuckled.

"He can be all yours.", she walked to a spot where both you and Price could see her. "But it won't be for long."

A strange spot of light appeared behind her.

Your lips twitched.

"I know this isn't a movie...", you said and followed the ray of light with your eyes. "But I'd like to know why."

The source of the light was a circle that shone through one of the broken windows.

It seemed like you and Price had been dragged into a basement.

It came from a flashlight.

Someone send codes.

"Keep distracted.", the message said.

Price noticed too.

As the woman moved her head, he cleared his throat.

One of her eyebrows rose.

"Why what?", she asked, returning to the topic.

You shrugged.

"Why everything. This seems extreme for someone who's a bit right."

A snort escaped her.

"We're not a bit right. We're nationalists."

"National socialists?", Price asked in a sober manner. "Are you international nazis?"

Now it was you who couldn't hide a smirk.

The shadows in the windows started moving. They spread left and right. Some disappeared entirely.

The woman didn't notice.

At least not yet.

Shaking her head, she returned to his side. She seemed to have a rather big interest in him.

"We want to destroy this union.", she said, lowering herself so that her and his face were floating next to each other. "It is destroying our counties."

You frowned.

"Our?", you asked.

"Yes. We are many. All around Europe. We want to be independent again."

Price huffed.

"Hate to disappoint you, mate, but everyone on this continent is independent."

"Not anymore. We're slaves to one another.", she straightened her back to stand up again and walked around the two of you as if there was a value to be judged. "The union made us weak, less polish, less German, less French. We gave up on ourselves. Instead, it's we. Not my country, but our continent. This has to end. The Americans support us too."

You rolled your eyes.

"Of course the republicans do...", you groaned.

All of a sudden, she pulled out a gun.

You stiffened.

Price's shoulders tensed.

He tried to lean into your direction, but it wouldn't be enough to protect you from a bullet.

Nervously, you glanced up to the windows again.

Nobody was to be seen.

The sound of a gun being loaded filled the tense silence.

Your heart started to beat like crazy.

They had to be quick or otherwise there wouldn't be people to save anymore.

With an amused smirk, she put the barrel of the gun to your forehead.

Not giving her the satisfaction of a reaction, you stared into her eyes. You didn't dare to move.

"You're a threat.", she said. "I'll fix that."

Her finger pressed down on the trigger.

"Take me first!", Price suddenly said. "Take me first."

With a sigh, you closed your eyes.

"Don't listen to him.", you said. "He's senile already."

Price pulled a face.

"You bloody fuckin' midge!"

"Shut it, John."

The woman rolled her eyes.

"You'll get a bullet too.", she said. "Listen to your friend and keep quite."

The barrel of the gun returned to your forehead.

The metal felt cold.

Her finger twitched to apply pressure.

But all of a sudden, steps sounded.

Your ears moved, took in all the sounds.

Confused, she frowned.

And she hesitated.

"Pull your head in.", Price said in a low voice.

You did as he said.

All at once, someone on the other side of the door opened fire.

Bullets came raining through the door.

The sudden noise took her by surprise.

Without being able to react, she just stood there as metal pieces her body and tore it apart.

Blood splattered everywhere.

The floor soon was drenched in red.

In one swift movement, Price put all his weight to the side and made the tied together chairs fall over.

A groan escaped you as you hit the ground.

Light and noise mixed before you.

It felt like torture to keep your eyes open.

With bated breath you squeezed them shut and started to count.

Ten.

Nine.

Eight.

The vibration of the shots chased through your body.

Someone called something out.

Seven.

Six.

Again, someone called out.

The vibrations started to loose strength.

Heat hit you in the face instead.

Five.

Four.

"(Y/N)!", Price deep voice suddenly cut through the mess. "Keep your head down. We're gettin' outa here!"

With lowered eyes and your head pulled in, you crawled over the floor while the weight of Price's hand pressed down on your back.

The air burned while shots danced through the room.

The exit seemed to be so far away.

Two soldiers waited for the two of you to make it out, Gaz and Alex stood by while providing cover for the other soldiers.

Enemy bullets chased after you. They hit the ground only mere inches from your feet.

For the first time in your life you thought you wouldn't make it.

All of a sudden, a rough hand grabbed you by the collar and dragged you through the door.

Breathing heavily, you let your back fall against the wall and sunk to the ground.

"Fuckin' hell, captain!", Price gasped. "Once this is over I'll treat you to a nice pint."

You couldn't help but smirk.

"Is this a date?", you asked, chuckling.

"Maybe.", he huffed. "Let's roll."
