"What the fuck are you doing? Get your ass up! Up! Up! Lift those arms, you weak motherfucker! Who taught you to punch? Your grandmother? You've got less strength in your legs than my dog has in his flat balls."

Bucky snorts dryly at the shouted insults he hears bouncing against the gymnasium walls. In the past few weeks The Butcher has been appointed final stage trainer for some of the newest SHIELD recruits. Maybe Director Coulson figures that if they can survive Y/N they can survive anything.

"What the hell are you doing lying there? Get up! Defend yourself! Do you think Hydra's gonna let you take a nap? NO!"

"She's going pretty hard on them out there," Steve surmises the obvious as he comes to join Bucky on one of the treadmills. He picks the one just to Bucky's right side.

Bucky scoffs. "You think?" He laughs lightly when the sound of a body hitting the mat makes Y/N clap. "She's been verbally abusing them for over two hours now."

"At least it's not physical abuse," Steve chuckles. He starts the running machine and starts at it.

"Not yet anyway. She'll probably save that for next week." Bucky risks a quick glance back at the sparring ring. Y/N is up there, dressed in all black, with her wild hair up in a ponytail and her eyes trained on the desperately fighting trainees. Then, as if able to sense Bucky's blue eyes, she looks his way. She smirks a bit when their eyes meet. She becomes distracted when one of the new agents knocks his opponent to the floor. She nods—deeming the take-down acceptable, apparently. "Nah—she'll yell at them for a while longer before getting personally physical."

"So how long has she been personally physical with you?"

Bucky's eyes dart to his best friend—making sure he's hearing him right. When he sees Steve wiggling his brows he lets out a choppy breath. "I don't know what you're..."

"Shut up! You know exactly what I'm talking about. You two are sleeping together and everyone knows it. Even Banner knows and he doesn't even know what day of the week it is sometimes."

Bucky snorts. "So much for keeping it on the down-low, then."

"You never answered me though. How long's it been?"

Bucky manages to shrug while keeping up a steady jogging pace. "Two weeks—that's it."

"Damn, okay. That's not as long as I thought. Nat said she'd thought it been around a month though so she was closer."

"Is this seriously what you guys choose to talk about?"

Steve nods. "Yeah—it's fun. At least we didn't place bets on you like Stark and Wilson did."

"What kind of bet?" Bucky hops off the treadmill.

"Ya know; who made the first move, who's the boss in the bedroom..."

"Woah! Woah, no way." Bucky shakes his head. "I'll tell you the first part but no way in hell am I letting you know the second." He glances back up at Y/N as she snaps her finger at another recruit. "It was her."

"She's the boss?" Steve raises an interested, curious eyebrow.

"What?! No!"

"So it's you!" Steve chuckles. "Tony was right. He was thinking she'd let you take the reins there. I'm kinda surprised though, considering how bossy she is..."

"I didn't say anything. You're surmising." Bucky snorts. He settles down onto a bench with a weight in his flesh arm. "And you're spending way too much time with Wilson. He's poisoning your mind."

Steve sits next to his buddy. "Not gonna lie, I kinda like it." He watches Y/N, the infamous Butcher, at the middle of the room. She strides around like a wild tiger—dangerous and primal. Her messy hair is pulled away from her sharp, stoic face as she yells at another poor recruit. "Damn, that's a woman."

Bucky's blue eyes flash away from Y/N. "Watch yourself there, Rogers." His voice is no where near kidding.

"No—I wasn't—I didn't mean—I was just saying it as a general compliment." He holds his hands up in surrender to show no harm.

Bucky nods. He moves his attention back to Y/N. She's leaning against the ring's elastic barrier with her arms crossed firmly. Dressed in all black she looks like a shadow. "Maybe if you hadn't been too much of a weak pansy to talk to her you'd be the one lucky enough to call her yours."

Steve chuckles. "I don't think Y/N is the kind of the woman that belongs to anyone."

"Oh you're right," Bucky agrees with a smirk, "That's the best fucking thing about her."

Once again The Butcher's voice is all that can be heard in the room. "Alright, you lazy losers. Take five laps around the compound and then I want you all to shower because you smell like fucking barnyard animals. And tomorrow I want each of you here at least an hour early. Your scrawny asses better be finished with your warmups before I've even finished my latte. Are we clear?"

Choruses of agreements sound from the scared recruits. When she waves them away with a flipping hand they scatter like scared little bugs.

Y/N gathers her things, a water bottle and towel, and then jogs to meet Steve and Bucky at the other end of the room.

"You two super soldier's having a fun time staring?" She pops a bubble of bright pink gum as she swaggers forward. She doesn't hesitate to shove Bucky's weights aside—making room for herself on his lap. She sits on his bent legs with her back arched against his chest while Steve's wide eyes take in the scene. "What? I saw you guys talking. I figured it was about us sleeping together. No more secrets, I guess. It was fun while it lasted. Although I'll be happy when I don't have to be so quiet."

Bucky's metal hand lowers to hold her hip. His thumb paws at her skin under the lightweight shirt.

"So you're just sleeping together?"

Y/N pops another bubble, interjecting before Bucky can respond. "Actually, we don't do a lot of sleeping. Mainly fucking. Sometimes there's a little cuddle, but I'm usually too tired for that." Steve's eyes are blown wide and his cheeks red. "There it is! The good boy blush. I told you I could get him to blush, Barnes."

Bucky rolls his eyes. "Yep, you did doll."

"So, uh, that means you guys are together...?"

"Together? Does it look like we're together?" Y/N gestures to their current arrangement impatiently.

Steve, worried to upset the scary woman, stutters unsurely, "Uh y-yes...?"

The Butcher opens her mouth to respond before hesitating. "I mean, we haven't really talked about it extensively." She turns around to face The Winter Soldier. "Barnes?"

"What?"

"Rogers' question: are we a thing?"

Bucky doesn't hesitate. "I'd like us to be." His thumb rubs circles on her waist. "I really would."

"We're on the same page then." She grins and Bucky's breath is clear swept away. He can hardly fathom the fact that she's sitting here on his lap, let alone agreeing to be officially together as a pair of amorous assassins. "Good, because I'd hate to have to kill you if you said something I didn't like." The light in her eyes is infectious. It makes Bucky chuckle.

"I'm glad we agree then."

Steve eyeballs the odd duo. "You two are so bizarre." He rises to his feet and goes to leave. "I'll see you two later—just don't do anything stupid while I'm not around."

After the gym door is closed up behind Steve Y/N grins down at Bucky. She turns around all the way to straddle him. Hands on his neck she cocks her head to one side. "Would taking me here on the floor count as something stupid?" She fiddles with his dogtag necklace, making him grin. She's taken off guard as he tosses her back onto the mat with his hands on her hips.

"Who the hell cares if it is?"

Then they're both smiling as their lips press together—hands in hair, bodies longing, and hearts finally happy after so many years of turmoil as The Butcher and The Winter Soldier.
