After saving Italy, once again, from the Allies, Katrina and Rose were sitting in the living room. Rose was drawing a picture of Katrina, who begrudgingly agreed to sit still long enough for the portrait. "Are you almost done Rose?" Katrina questioned. "I've been sitting like this for an hour."

"Almost done Katrina~," Rose giggled. "Just stay like that for a few more minutes."

Katrina sighed. How did I get myself in this situation? Katrina thought as she tried to get her attention off her throbbing arms, since she was sitting with her arms holding up her head. She looked around the room and noticed the pictures that were on the end-table that was not too far away. The pictures were black and white and in a few of them there was a young woman standing next to a strong man. Both were smiling in the photos. A small smile came to Katrina's face. She liked to look at the few pictures her Father had of her Mother. Since Catherine died when Katrina was a little baby, she didn't remember anything about her Mother. All she could rely on were the rare stories her Father would tell her about her Mother and dreams where she caught glimpses of her in her dreams. In each story, Germany would make sure to reiterate on how she was beautiful, caring, and had the biggest heart.

What was strange was that Katrina had had a few strange dreams where she caught glimpses of her Mother and then heard what she assumed was her voice calling Katrina's name. Vhat are those dreams about? She thought.

"Katrina, I'm done," The 8-year old German was taken out of her thoughts by her friend, who was showing her the picture she had drawn. Katrina looked at the picture and saw that Rose had made it very realistic, except for the fact that she was smiling in the sketch. "What do you think?"

"...Vhy did you draw me smiling?" Katrina questioned.

"Because you were smiling~. You were looking over at those pictures and smiling."

A small blush began to form on Katrina's face. She hadn't realized that she was smiling.

"Why were you smiling at the pictures?" Rose asked her best friend.

Katrina sighed as she stood up and walked over to the table. Rose followed in her lead and went to the table. Katrina then picked up a picture and showed it to Rose; it was a picture of Germany and Catherine on their wedding day. "I vas just thinking about mein Mutti," Katrina explained. "Vati's told me stories about her."

"Wow," Rose gasped. "Your Mama is very pretty Katrina. I wish I had a picture of my Mama. All I have from her is the note she left with me when I was in the basket that Papa found me in. I've read the letter so many times that I have it memorized."

"..........Vhat's vorst; missing a Mother you knew, or missing a Mother you never knew?"

Rose looked at Katrina in confusion. "Why do you ask that?"

"No reason. Forget I said anything."

Poor Katrina, Rose thought. She misses her Mother so much.

Later that day, Katrina went to take a nap. Before she did fall into complete unconsciousness, she looked at the two pictures on her nightstand; one was of her Mother and Father when Catherine was pregnant with her, and the other was of her and Germany when she was 2-years old. It was sad that Catherine was not in both pictures.

"Mutti, I miss you so much," Katrina whispered as a small tear slid down her cheek before she closed her eyes.

As she did, a strange shadow creature lurked in the mirror that was in her room. It stepped out of the mirror and then walked over to Katrina's bed. It leaned over Katrina and whispered something inaudible into her ear that didn't even sound like it was human.

**************

The feeling of a bed was no longer present for Katrina. Instead, there seemed to be something different underneath her. It felt familiar, and at the same time, it felt foreign. The young girl's eyes fluttered open and she found herself in a green field. All around her, beautiful flowers grew that ranged to all the different colors known to man. The sky above was clear blue with a few clouds scattered about and ranging in different shapes and sizes.

"Vhere am I?" Katrina asked as she got to her feet. "Vhere is mein house?" As she looked around, Katrina realized there was not a person in sight. "Vhere is everyone?"

As she began walking around, Katrina felt a wave of safety come over her. She felt that this place would not be dangerous at all. "Vhy do I vant to sit down and lie in the grass?"

That's when Katrina saw a large tree. Underneath it stood a woman wearing a white dress. Her back was turned to Katrina and she had long, blonde hair that reached past her shoulder. Katrina cautiously went towards the woman and asked her, "Excuse me, do you know vhere I am?"

Before Katrina got an answer, she felt the woman's arms wrap around her small body. All Katrina could think was this; "Vhy is this voman hugging me?"

"My baby," the woman muttered in a voice that was as smooth as honey. "My little Katrina."

At that moment, Katrina registered what was going on; she was being hugged by her Mother. But, how was this possible? Her Mother had died. Yet here she was, holding Katrina in her arms. "Mutti," Katrina muttered as her Mother held her. She then looked up to see her Mother's beautiful blue eyes. "Mutti, how are you here? How are you alive? How is this-"

Catherine shushed Katrina as she caressed the child's left cheek. Even the way she shushed was delicate. "It's okay Katrina," Catherine told the child. "I'm here now. I'm never going to leave you. You're safe here my little baby. We won't ever be separated again."

Tears ran down Katrina's face as her Mother spoke. Oh how she longed to finally be with her Mother. She was so happy that she didn't ask anymore questions.

********************

Rose awoke to find that she was in a field that was similar to the one Katrina was in. However, the one Rose was in was a bit frightening. There was an eerie fog that covered the field, making seeing hard. Rose walked around, dragging her teddy bear right behind her. She was in her little pink night dress. "Hello?" Rose called out. "Is anyone here?"

As Rose walked around, she began to feel frightened. She then reached for her teddy bear and held it in her arms in a tight squeeze. "I'm scared Mr. Bear."

That's when she saw a figure not too far away. It was a tall figure, which made Rose suspect that it was an adult. As she slowly approached the figure, she soon realized it looked like her Father. "Papa?"

The man who looked to be her Father didn't turn to look at Rose.

"Papa? What's wrong? Are you okay?"

Italy remained silent, which frightened Rose. Then he said something; "You don't, want me." Then he ran away from the little girl.

"Papa, wait!" Rose gave chase, knowing that this had to be her Father. Who else could it have been? But why had he said that she didn't want him? Rose wanted her Papa more than anything.

The chase ended when Italy came to a stop in front of a tree. Rose slowly approached him, getting a better look. She could tell from the clothing and the hair that confirmed that this man was her Father. "Papa, why did you run?" Rose asked him. "I need you...Did I do something wrong? Please tell me."

He didn't reply. He just stood there, staring at the tree.

"Papa?"

Rose was about to reach for his hand when she saw something that made her drop her teddy bear; her "Father" had his entire right arm covered in darkness with his nails now claws, part of the left side of his face was covered in darkness as well, with his eye being replaced with a glowing, white orb, and there were a few hints of dark splotches all over his body. He turned around to stare at Rose, who could only shake in fear. "Is SoMeThInG WrOnG RoSe?" the creature asked.

Rose felt her throat dry up. Yet she was somehow able to let out one terrified shriek.

Not what you expected? Or did you expect it? Anyway, the story will be somewhat different from the original game so be warned. Until next time!
