Chapter 1 - 1943

My story starts in Brooklyn, May 1st, 1943.

I was born in a small hospital to my mother, Peggy Carter. She named me Sarah Katlyin Carter/Rogers, in rememberence of my late father. I remember her saying it was the happiest moment over her life. Besides meeting her love, my father, Steve Rogers.

She thought of me as her last peice of her love. She would always take me out dancing, saying "Your father never danced with me but you will".

I remember faintly in 1948, at the age of five going to a celebration for the soilders and members of the army's heroic actions during the war.

I was quite confused as to why they congratulated a man that I found no where in the room. So I asked my mother, "Momma, why they happy, he no here?".

She just smiled with a tears in her eyes and said "He's in heaven dear, their congratulating him because he saved us even though he's not here to except the honor".

To a five year old this shouldn't have made much sense. For some reason though, I remember completely understanding ever word of it.

I grew up in the small town my mother moved to after my fathers death. Playing outside with the boys on our block, not caring of my gender.

In 1952, on my ninth birthday I remember finding myself crying in my room. This was because the fathers of the boys did not think it was right for them to be playing with a girl like that. They thought I should be playing inside with dolls and learning how to cook I suppose.

My mother had said to them "How would you feel if that was your daughter out there just trying to make friends". To which one of them responded "My daughter wouldn't be out there in the first place".

I didn't see what was so wrong with me playing outside and having fun. My mother didn't either, but apparently the world didn't want women succeeding at anything.

The years went on as I began to grow into a respected young lady. Niether the perfect wife material or the worst wife material.

Everything seemed to be working out just fine till 1957. An investigation had been launched to see if they could recover my fathers body.

The only issue was only one person alive at the time knew the location where it went down and that person was my mother.

She was shocked at first as to why now they decded to look for his body and I knew she had her suspicions but she abliged. Telling me it would "be my way of seeing for myself, can't let the men do everything now can we".

Since I was now fourteen she let me join her. I knew my mother was still an agent. That was why I was left with my aunt so much. Now that I was old enough she was proud to show me what she worked for and why she did it.

When we arrived at the location all the agents flooded out into the icy sea to see for themselves. I was just as curious as they were but had no clue what I was doing. So clumsily I stepped out onto the ice and began to look around. Not paying attention to the cracks that began to emerge.

I remember mother calling out my name "Sarah!" before it all "look out!" came crashing down.

I fell into the ice and thats the last thing I remember....
