Nineteen

Chaos.

Levi ran through a crowd of people, slashing his way through using a sword.

He thrusted his sword deep into a woman's stomach and ran it through her belly, spilling blood, flesh, and tattered intestines. The woman gritted her teeth in pain and locked eyes with her killer who's face was stone cold. It seemed like Levi's face was molded by Michaelangelo to look empty and cold...it will be forever like it is, unmoving and intimidating.

"Have you no remorse?" She inaudibly said. Blood was in her throat and she could barely croak anything but to this small boy she fought, she wanted to say a few words of solace.

Levi regarded the female with his blank and dark eyes. "Nay." He managed to understand the gibberish of the woman and even had the courage to reply in a low pitch, like the lowest of the notes of a piano made by ivory and ebony.

The woman chuckled but began to choke with her own blood, rendering her to cough. She hunched and continued coughing, even leaning on Levi's knee for support.  She glared at Levi, barely breathing. She clenched her teeth and gathered her last ounce of strength.

"You..." She shook as she tried to speak. She held Levi's ankle firmly. "You shall die a painful death like me..." She cursed the young lad.

"Oh?" Levi mused as he raised his sword and it glinted red and silver under the majestic noontime sun. "Fun." He muttered before swinging his sword down to her neck, lopping off her head.

Her head tumbled to the grass, her eyes still open in terror but when one stares at it long enough, it looked eerily content.

Levi kicked her body away, pulling her hand away from his ankle. He looked around, searching for his comrades but all he can see are people fighting who were covered in blood and unrecognizable corpses.

The air was putrid and filled with smoke from firing cannons and pistols. The grass was painted crimson by warriors who fight, abiding with their firm beliefs. Scattered limbs, ripped innards, decapitated heads, staring eyes that were out of their sockets, and broken bones littered the place.

Levi stood before the fray, lucky that he was not struck down as he stood in a trance. He never saw carnage as hellish as this. It was as if Hell has unleashed Cerberus to lay waste unto the living world. His hazy eyes cleared when he saw a man that was well-built, slowly approaching him like a lioness dashing her way to her prey, her meal.

Another one. He thought.

Upon his next's opponent hands was a huge axe that seemed as sharp as the guillotine that severed the heads of Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI, the rulers of France.

Levi readied himself as he saw a muscular man lunged at him with an axe.

Narrowing his eyes, he looked for weak points of his opponent which seemed like almost everywhere except the parts where the man can swing his axe to.

That is sad. Levi thought, his eyes still on the target.

The man was all screaming and raging and that is one opponent Levi dislikes.

The buffoon yelled and swung his axe around, advancing with one step with every swing he executed. Levi was not hit or even cut for he took a step back every time his opponent swung his weapon another time.

The young man with hair as black as the eyes of Nyx remained calm and he stood before his opponent, unfazed and unyielding.

Levi calmly reached into the pocket of his coat and pulled out a pistol and aimed it at the man and pulled the trigger.

The man armed with the axe was too occupied with screaming and being destructive that he couldn't process what happened. He looked down to his chest where blood gushed out. He looked back to Levi with disbelief carved unto his countenance before falling down to the ground.

Bullets flew in Levi's direction and all he got down on the grass. A futile attempt to protect himself. When his opponents stopped firing in order to reload, he rolled to his side, crouched and ran low.

"Fire!" The commander of rebels yelled and bullets cut through air, screaming and impaling humans.

Levi held his head in order to protect it though it sounded insufficient. He ran to the other side as quick as he could.

On the way he was running for was a tree, a thick oak tree. It was the only tree in the lowlands where the bloodshed is happening and he had concluded that it was a great place to hide.

To have a tree like it in the lowlands is strange but in this dire situation Levi is in, it was a blessing.

A few meters before he reached the said tree, he found guns pointed at him, ready to fire. He gulped, unsure of how to get out of this situation when two daggers flew to the heads of the men pointing guns at him. The daggers where thrown with such precision that it embedded itself deep into the heads of his almost killers.

Levi exhaled in relief and he craned his neck to see a horse galloping towards him and seeing it made him duck and began to crawl as fast as he could to the oak tree.

"Levi!" He heard a familiar voice say. "Why're you crawling like a babe?!" It was Severino.

Levi's head shot up to see Severino as the rider of the horse. "Oh..." That was all he can say.

"Have you gone dumb?" The brown haired boy exclaimed. "It is I, Severino! And are you heading for that tre—ARGH!" Severino's friendly face turned into pain as he reached for his side, clutching it. He looked down to it to see blood and his earthy eyes widened in terror. More gunshots followed his direction, causing the horse to panic and due to his affliction, he lost balance and fell off his horse before it galloped away from the fray.

"Severino!" Levi yelled as he tried to catch the boy from the horse but he couldn't. He was not quick enough.

Severino was now on the ground, holding his side while blinking tears from his eyes. His body shook in the tremendous pain that originated from his side as he took deep yet panicked breaths.

Levi crawled to him, and dragged him to the oak tree that had dead humans with daggers in their brains resting by the oak tree's roots.  Levi grunted as he propped Severino's back to the trunk of the tree.

Severino's wound wasn't as fatal as it seems but his face was absolutely struck with terror and Levi tried his best to look as calm as possible to avoid scaring the wounded boy more.

Levi cursed to himself since he did not have any cloth that can help stop the bleeding on Severino's side. He cursed as he unbuttoned his shirt and quickly taking it off from him. He pressed his shirt to Severino's side and applied pressure to it.

"Ow!" Severino winced and cried some more.

"Shhhh..." Levi tried his best to not sound mean. He looked around, trying to find something that can help to keep the cloth in place. Like a rope or something. He touched the ground. It was like his hands are searching for something unavailable. Then, he saw Severino's belt. "May I please borrow your belt?" He asked the boy in pain.

"As long as it helps..." Was the reply he got so he took the belt and wrapped it around Severino's waist that looked unnaturally feminine but Levi shrugged it off, blaming it on his distressed brain.

He tied the belt as tight as he could and carved a hole to the leather using his knife so that he can secure the prong of the belt into the leather. This way, it would be easier than having it slip away from time to time.

Then, he hoisted the wounded Severino on his back. He walked as fast as he could even if Severino's weight was making him slower.

From the top of the oak tree, a thin boy with a mace jumped and hit Levi on his left foot.

Levi yelled in anger and dropped Severino. He rummaged at his pockets, panicking. It was naturally a human impulse so he could die from anything that as of the moment.

Severino grunted as he was dropped and more tears streamed from his eyes when he saw the thin boy with a bloody bludgeon.

The rebel dragged his bloodied weapon to the ground, digging up the grass, weeds, and dirt as he went. He flashed Levi a cocky and dirty smile as he saw Levi desperately limping away from him, muttering curses under his breath.

"You...fucking...bitch." Levi hissed as he looked down to his bloodied toe. It was a minimal injury in his opinion but it hurt too bad.

His opponent laughed heartily, cleared his throat, and spat phlegm on the ground. He raised his bludgeon and aimed it at Levi's head who was frozen. A spilt second and he'll lose his head——

"Look out!" Severino yelled as he pushed the dazed Levi away. He yelled in anguish when the bludgeon shattered his ribs. Blood dripped to his lips and he coughed really hard. Levi watched with wide eyes as he quickly unscathed a spare knife he kept and lunged at Severino's attacker.

Levi gathered all the anger he could as he yelled loudly. He knew he would probably get both of them killed, however, he longed to impale his opponent to let him hear Levi's wrath.

The sun made his beloved blade glisten as he blinked when he saw a rapier's end stab through the thorax of the beefy man.

A hiss was heard and the man tried his best with his hands to pry the knife away from himself but it just just his hands instead which made him howl loudly. Levi kicked his enemy on the head, wincing as he felt his bludgeoned toe ache as he did it.

"Levi!" He heard Jean yelled, feeling that the brown haired boy is rushing to his and Severino's aid. "What's happened?"

Levi panted as he pulled the knife out of the man he just stabbed. "It's...Severino...His ribs were shattered..."

Jean's light eyes hardened in fear and realization. "I see." He said grimly as he crouched down to the wounded boy who was shivering in the ground, writhing in pain and cowering in fear. "Severino, let me help you up."

Severino shook his head fervently. "Just get me fucking outta here!" He yelled in a very effeminate voice that left Levi and Jean questioning who Severino is.

"Sir Erwin told us to regroup in the rendezvous just across the other side of the forest. There are many who are wounded but so far, it seems like we have the upper hand." Jean reported though Levi felt like the boy added that unto his statement to hopefully provide hope to Levi but it seems like Jean was only convincing himself.

They helped Severino as they hoisted him up a horse. Jean climbed on the horse where Severino is on and Levi mounted on to his own horse.

As they rode through the glade, Levi saw all the bodies strewn across the grassy ground. Scarlet overlapped green, like a painter adding layers to their canvas. It was awful. He narrowed his eyes and turned to see if Severino was doing alright with Jean instead.

Severino's eyes were closed, as if he was trying to seek out any comfort he can find.

"Jean."

"Yeah?" He echoed and slightly glanced at Levi.

"Do you think Severino is Severino?" He asked curiously, his ears being deafened by the clattering hooves of their horses.

Jean exhaled and shook his head. "That is such a strange question but I think we will find out the answer to that soon enough."

Sup, guys. I am back. I hope you all stay safe, mask up, drink Vitamin C, and wash your hands.
