Limping back to our house, we lean against each other, trying hard to stand upright. Blood trailed behind me, dripping from the large, deep cut on my left calf. A tickling sensation falls down my right forearm, a gash on my bicep. Red liquid stained my shirt from the horizontal cut on my stomach. Small cuts were all over my face, arms and legs. Keith, however, had less damage than I did. Only half of the small cuts and only one deep cut just above his left knee. Grabbing the key under the mat, Keith unlocks the door and drags me inside and towards the large couch. He lays me down and starts to limp to the bathroom. I grab his sleeve, pulling myself up, and pushing him down. I went to grab the first aid kit. I leaned on walls and grabbed onto anything that can help me stand. One arm cradled my stomach as my other arm held onto my opposite bicep. Some of my blood stained the kit as I waddled back to my lover. As I was fixing up his wounds, I fought to stay awake as more blood ran down my body. I blinked repeatedly, already knowing that Keith was watching my every move, a smirk on his face, yet his eyes were flaring with worry. My vision soon turned black and I felt myself fall.

"Hey there." His deep voice filled the elevator we were standing in. I nod politely, not wanting to speak to him. "You know we agreed to be friends, right?"

I nod once more, no longer trusting my voice as my blue eyes filled with salty water. I kept me face down and away from him. He stared straight at the door as he spoke. "Since we did, why haven't we talked?"

Truth is that, Keith and I used to date, and it was going so well until that one unfaithful day.

We were partners at first, forced to bunk with each other. Forced to learn as much as we can. We knew everything about each other. We knew so much it was hard to have a secret around the other because we could instantly tell when something's wrong. It was a flaw to the both of us. Compassion.

"Yea. Whatever. I was gonna go find the library. What are you going to do?" My eyes were steady with curiosity, yet my entire body was shaking.

"Im going to visit an old friend of ours." A smile crawled onto his rough (c major) lips. My tears instantly disappeared and I stopped shaking. Confusion covered my face, lightly hiding the fear I was earlier wearing.
"Who?"

Arriving at the Coastal Branch, Forensics Lab, we walk into one of the offices. I watched as a body, covered with a clean white sheet, with the tag of 'John Doe' on one of its toes, being pushed away and out my eye site. I cringed and unknowingly grabbed onto Keith's sleeve. He chuckled at me. I huffed, but kept my grip. "I agree."

I look up to find the source of the voice, seeing a very pale man in a pure white lab coat and a dark long sleeve, sitting and writing on small pile of papers stacked neatly on the desk. He was looking down while talking with a nurse or another doctor behind him, since she, too, was wearing a lab coat and holding most likely important papers on her clipboard. Some of the male's pale white hair hung in front of his face while the rest was jelled back. However, hearing the brunette's chuckle, he looks up, showing off his ice cold blue eyes. Keith looks over, saying clearly with sarcasm, "You sure got old."

And in response, "Genie. Scout."

I just smile and wave, my left hand releasing the sleeve. "Hello again, Gilbert Ross."

"There aren't any ashtrays around here." Keith states, pointing it out to Dr. Ross. Something he has mentioned to me earlier when we were walking in.

Gilbert keeps looking out the window as he speaks, "Everywhere's a no smoking zone now, which works since I quit some time ago. "

I scoff quietly as Keith sighs. The messy haired male takes a sip of the warm coffee in the white paper cup. I hold the warm cup in my cold hands, hoping it would warm them up, just slightly.

"Still bitter. Somethings never change." I nod, agreeing with him.

"I actually think it got worse." I joked, a small smile on my face as I kept my eyes on the deep, brown liquid inside the light cup.

"Then don't drink it. Either of you." We both took another sip of the coffee, not acknowledging him. He finally looks over, watching the two of us take a full gulp of the bitter liquid. His ice eyes staring straight through me. Chills traveled down my spine, making the brunet quickly glance at me.

"Hmm. Its the anniversary of her death. Time sure flies by." He just had to mention her. I stay silent, not wanting to engage in conversation any longer, but still noting any facial changes in both men.

The sound of a cell phone breaks the silence we had. Keith grabs his phone, since his was the one ringing. The sound of a second phone goes off, this time the one in my pocket. I hold mine out, showing it to Keith. He holds his phone in his right hand, elbow on his knee. The doctor looks over, the noise of the phones bringing him back from a memory

"I see that you're both already hard at work. But if you ever want bitter coffee, drop by anytime." I smile and nod. Standing and pulling the tall male up with me. Keith stands, leaving his cup behind, and we walk away. "Sure"

The pale man watching us go. I quickly toss the empty cup into a nearby trash can, finally answering the phone call and walking ahead slightly.

Keith stops, "Oh, almost forgot."
Keith throws a packet of cigarettes over at the man. He caught it with ease. Keith keeps on walking forward, now trying to pull me along by my wrist, waving his right hand back towards the doctor. I look back and watch as Doc watches us leave, finally looks at the packet. Seeing it was cigarettes, he sniffs his right arm, confused on how he knew. He looked straight at me and mouthed, "Could he tell that i was lying?"

I nod.
