May#2 A whole new world
Hey Candies,
How are y'all doing?
My next review is going to be on "A whole new world" by IcecreamSundae5
First of all, I have to say that I totally love your username and your work...it's dope.
And secondly, I have to apologise cause this review was meant to be posted on the 3rd of this month, but unfortunately I fell ill. And worst of all, I'm still very down. I don't know if I'm getting better or worse, but I'm having a splitting headache. I guess it's the stress of everything...I read and still reading this book in bed...so I apologise to the wonderful writer IcecreamSundae5 cause I read and made corrections on only 7 chapters, though I'm still super pumped to read the rest.
I do promise to read the remaining chapters and maybe make corrections in the inline comments or Pm if you want. Just tell me which you prefer and I'll do my best.
I've been reading and typing with my phone and not my laptop, that's another reason why I wasn't able to read all the chapters and make corrections on everything. I do hope you understand.
However, I still suspect that it was the poisoned coke I took from thriller_mystery_ that worsened my situation 😂🖤...*me rn taking a mental note not to take a glass of coke from thriller_mystery_ *
so I'm going to review this book under the following headings.
Plot development:
I love the plot of the story, the title actually reminds me of that Disney princess, what's her name again...
Oh well I'm going to remember soon.
I love the storyline, and the fact that all events are following sequentially. The story isn't too fast or slow paced, and I was technically laughing while reading.
I love the way you balanced the opinion of the two major characters... I actually saw that coming cause Zee complained that Nick was cheated.
The title added to the flare of the book, and it fits it perfectly.
I also found it cute that your username is ice cream, and your characters love ice cream.
It seemed as though the characters were brought together by a common interest...ice cream. I love ice cream too...
Your book did invoke my visual and gustatory senses.
I can't help but keep wondering about what happened to Zee Meyers...that's why I'm still super pumped to keep reading.
As a reader, you had my rapt/full attention, and I can't help but say "Keep it up!" It's a 8/10
Character development:
I love every character used...I admire Nick and Zee's relationship.
I still wonder tho... What happened with the real Zee?
Did they actually exchange bodies, or is Zee dead.
This situation reminds me of a movie I watched, though I've forgotten the name.
I haven't met Olive yet, so I can't have a prejudice based on Zee's opinion alone...though I suspect that she's as terrible as Zee paints.
I also want to meet the other guy in the love triangle...though I only read 7 chapters, I can confidently say that this book is awesome and is definitely going somewhere. It isn't distorted, which is actually cool. I can't wait to finish reading tho...it's a 8/10
Book cover:
The book cover is awesome...you definitely are a genius with this cover art...
I was immediately interested just be looking at the book cover.
Yunno with the ice cream and all?
The cover fits the plot beautifully...it's a 9/10
Grammatical erorrs:
You're a good writer, and you actually did okay to some extent with the punctuations.
I did notice that you made use of full stops a lot. I wasn't confused while reading tho, but I will advise that you make use of commas than full stops. Don't get me wrong tho...both are equally important.
There were some places that required a comma but you made use of full stops...and also you made use of "toward" than "towards"...please scan through the corrections and the chapters during your free time and correct these minor errors.
Apart from these few mistakes, you're a brilliant writer.
The corrections to errors are in bold and additional explanation given in brackets... please if you are not clear about something, do try to bring my notice to it and I'll be happy to clarify your doubts.
Prologue:
Long story short, James and Nick both fell deeply madly in love with Nick, and she had to choose between them. (Take note of the position of the commas, and "fell" not "fall" cause the dependent clause is in the past tense)
The writer of this book tried really hard to show that Olive is just an innocent teenager, who's confused about her feelings (punctuation)
The book was from Olive's point of view, so you don't even know what the other characters are feeling until they say it, and Nick doesn't even get to have that. (Punctuation).
Other than this he was such a good person, like really good and he got hurt so many times. My heart broke at that.
(Take note of the punctuation, there's no need for a full stop after "good ")
I mean it's not like there's no other book with a character named "Zee" in it, but this book somehow stood out for me. (Note the quotation marks and yeah the punctuation)
I magically got trapped inside that book, and currently in the body of Zee. (Punctuation and take note of the "and")
Chapter 1:
It's not like I don't want to, I'm actually happy with the online one. And if I ever get time to breath, I spend it with myself
("Don't" fits better in the context and take note of the punctuations--full stops and commas)
Talking with myself, asking myself if I'm okay or not and taking care of myself. (Take note of the punctuation and conjunction)
And I don't know why but I wanted to read the book, so I said goodbye to Maya and searched for it. (Punctuation)
I have to run, like really fast.
You might be thinking I'll not reach it in time, but the fun fact about me is that I can run fast, like really fast.
(Punctuations and this fits better)
I woke up panting, trying to even my breath.
The room was huge with a giant TV on the wall.
I found a school bag, searched inside and saw a name. (This fits better)
I slapped myself really hard. That hurts!
(Take note of the exclamation mark and also "That hurts" makes more sense in italic... I think it's cool in italic)
She's 18 years old, both her parents are business partners and mostly stay busy.
(Take note of the punctuation and conjunction "and")
This is really happening, I am in a new world (punctuation)
She doesn't, she only has vanilla ice cream.
So I can just go and buy ice cream, Can't I?
Even if I fall I wouldn't have that many injuries, I can risk it.
Dark eyes, black fluffy hair, the kind I'm really jealous of, leather jacket and jeans. (Take note of the words and punctuations)
That's the reason why I didn't call the cops the moment I saw you climbing out the window. ("You" was omitted)
I walked towards him and he gave me a helmet.
He nodded towards my house
I turned around and walked towards the house
Chapter 2:
I threw the bag out the window, ready to sneak out the house.
I mostly tell my mom before going anywhere, but today is different.
After thinking for 5 whole minutes, I've decided what I want to do. (Punctuation)
Even when I was watching a show or something, I always used to stress about what I had to do next (punctuation and tense "had")
One bag almost fell from her hands when I reached her, but luckily I caught it.
She was walking ahead of me and towards her house
You're our neighbor, Michelle's daughter. Zee right? (Punctuation)
I headed towards the living room
Uhh it was clear that you didn't want me there and I got it, so I left. (Punctuation)
Mum's been nagging me since the minute you left the house, that I was the reason you left.
(Comma)
I was going to climb down my window, cause it saves time and I'm lazy when he said.
I don't, Mum told me today. Use the door. ("Don't" not "didn't" cause it's present tense and also note the punctuation)
I remember the scene in the book where Sara slapped Nick, because he and Olive had an accident (comma)
He told everyone that he was driving, and Sara slapped him for risking Olive's life.
I can't just sit here and watch this beautiful bond get broken.
I looked between them, they were still talking.
Chapter 3:
I haven't thought about how I would do that, but I'll think of something.
It'll be best if the never meet, but I don't know how I will stop the two main characters from ever meeting. (Note the comma and also "ever meeting" is better than "meeting ever")
I really don't want that accident to happen, or any accident for that matter.
With that thought in mind, I pressed the bell and to my surprise didn't run away.
And friendships don't start from lies, do they? (There's meant to be a comma)
I don't know the purpose of this prank, but I can surely say it's stupid.
This is not a prank, everything I'm telling you is the truth. (This fits better)
I took a step towards her
I was walking towards my house when she called me
But he still makes me feel bad, makes me feel like I made the wrong choice.
And she's walking towards me.
We walked together towards my house.
I opened the door and saw her walking towards her house.
You shut the door at her face Nick, what did you expect?
I didn't know if you had a first aid kit, so I brought mine.
Do whatever you want Zee, but it's not just because of that.
So you're saying you're a little idiotic? (Note the question mark and "idiotic")
Chapter 4:
At first I thought that after hearing the truth, Nick will never talk to me again.
You've raised him really well, you must know how charming he is.
Yeah, of course I miss them.
And you won't be able to go into the club, you're underage remember? (Take note of the comma)
Not Nick's mom, just Sara. (Punctuation)
This is your first time in a long time coming to a club, that's why you're anxious. (Punctuation)
Give it time, you'll feel better.
I held Sara's hand and dragged her towards the bar.
I said, my voice dangerously low.
I never thought she'd be stupid enough to bring my mum to a club ("she'd" fits better than"she'll")
I wrapped my arm around See and pulled her towards me before glaring at the guy. (This fits better)
Well since we're all here, let's sit together. I've booked a table, let's go.
I said, being confused.
You saw me at a club with her and immediately thought the worst of me. You thought that I brought Sara into a club with me without thinking about her wishes and just did what I wanted to do. (Take note of the full stop and words in bold)
Chapter 5:
I followed his gaze and saw a girl with a boy walking towards a cafe.
I looked at Zach and he was throwing daggers at the boy with his eyes. ("At" not "on")
I don't think it's stupid, you're just worried about your sister.
I nodded towards the girl who just gave us our ice cream.
I didn't think about getting rid of it, but then you told me to think about it and I did.
Mom really hates it and I realized I'm stressing her out. And again, if I'm also not happy with it, then why am I keeping it? (Take note of the punctuation and the words in bold)
I'm really sorry Zee, I have a problem.
Chapter 6:
I thought it'll be a good idea if we got ice cream
And it was a big deal, it was irresponsible and dangerous
It was my first day driving and I was too excited
I didn't know what I was thinking, I'm sorry.
I asked him if he had any second thoughts (past tense is better)
His eyes looked even dark from close.
Not failing to notice a hint of smile on his face (take note of the words in bold)
On top of that, he also offered to give me a ride to school.
General Review:
I totally recommend this book to ice cream, high school romance and should I say paranormal/sci-fi lovers. Especially ice cream lovers... it's also totally safe for all genders.
It's totally amazing and I was hooked while reading it
Overall rating: 8/10
Take care of yourself y'all, and it might take time before I drop another review, cause of my health status right now.
Nonetheless, I'm going to be as quick as possible. Have a lovely day!
