I sighed, sitting on the famous couch of my lovely little shop. I squinted my eyes at the thoughts that graced my mind. My Aunt was coming today. My father's side. It had been too long since I had seen her. I didn't know if she was as crazy as my ex-father but rumor has it she was raised by her friend's mom more than her own. My mom washed her hands in the sink and headed to the storefront.
"(Y/n), want to make some macarons for your friends? The kitchen is ready for you. Amane can help you. He's coming over, right?" She dried her hands with her apron and leaned against the counter.
"Yes, he's coming over. He should be here any minute now." I looked at my non-existent watch and sighed.
My mind drifted off to the other day. My eyes had been so swollen from crying that it was hard to see. Akane and Tsukasa helped guide me around the house to rooms that I needed to be in. It was so embarrassing! I whined and kicked my legs back and forth. They have evidence about my father, so why was I acting like such a child?
"What's going on here?" Amane's voice interrupted my blushing mess and he looked at me with his nervous smile. I quickly fixed myself and shuffled over to the side of the couch closest to the door.
"Amane!" I quickly positioned myself and launched. Tackling him down in a bear hug. We both slammed into the door but I didn't really care. "I missed you. Wanna make macarons?"
"Yeah, that sounds good. What flavor?" He patted my head and walked in to place his bag down on the couch.
"Hmmmmm." I placed my finger to my chin in contemplation. "All of them?"
"All of them?!?!" He turned his head quickly in my direction while he stopped himself on the way to the kitchen. I was following close behind I bumped into his chest but it hurt my nose.
"Owww..." I held my nose and tried not to sneeze. "We can sell them, and eat them!" I passed Amane into the kitchen. He followed close behind me with one of those charming smiles plastered on his face.
"That's gonna take forever. Isn't your aunt coming over soon?" He asked, taking out the necessary bowls to make the macarons.
My mood changed within seconds and my smile flattened. It scared me to think she was like my father. I couldn't even deal with one much less two. I just nodded shyly and got out the massive bags of ingredients.
My hip suddenly bumped into the corner of our metal cooling table. I yelped in pain and dropped one of the bags of flour. The bad broke and flour poofed from the bag like I had just cast a spell. Within the second, both Amane and I were covered in the white powder. I coughed a little bit and wiped at my eyes.
"You missed a spot." He reached down and grabbed a handful of the flour, patting my head with the bunch. I gripped my side at the lingering pain but laughed anyway.
"That's very thoughtful of you. Here, I would love to offer you more." I grabbed my own fist full and threw it at the poor boy. We both ended up just brutally throwing flour at each other. I quickly tackled him to the floor, holding his hands over his head to prevent him from throwing anymore.
Amane observed our position with a smirk on his face. "Aren't I supposed to be on the top?" He asked. Amane stopped fighting me and enjoyed my flustered expression.
I quickly put my hands to my cheeks. But this gave him the opportunity to get what he wanted. We switched places easily and I laid on my back with a thud.
"(Y/n)?" a voice called from the storefront. With panic, both of us stood up and started to dust each other off.
"I-I'm in here!" I called. She was here, My aunt. The last time she was here was when I was a child.
"Ahhh. Oh? What happened here? Who is he?" My Aunt started shooting out questions one after the other.
I waved my hands to try and calm her down. "I accidentally dropped the flour bag and Amane and I ended up having a battle to the death. As you can see." I motioned to the pile of flour on the floor.
My Aunt looked at me un-amused. her eyes switched between Amane, the flour, and I.
The poor boy just stood there and coughed awkwardly. He shoved his hands into his pants pocket.
"Hello. My name is Yugi Amane. It's nice to meet you. I've heard great things about you from Mrs. (L/n)" Amane introduced himself. "May I ask what brings you here?"
My Aunt was caught off guard by Amane's manners. She softened her look. "Oh...It's nice to meet you as well. My name is Fuji (L/n)... I came here for my job and simply asked if I could have a place to stay. Can I ask who you are to my family?" The grown women cautiously made her way to the both of us and started to rub at my cheeks in hopes of cleaning some of the flour on my face.
I froze but turned away and hugged the boy from behind, giving him a quick dry kiss on the cheek due to the flour. "He's my boyfriend. I figured since you were coming over you would want to meet him one way or another."
My head peaked from his shoulder and his face flushed.
"Wha-...H-Hey. You ca-" But Amane's attempts to speak were pushed to the side. He was too flustered to function. He was worried though. I wouldn't normally be so forward with actions such as this. He wanted to know what was going through my head.
My aunt nodded solemnly and patted my head. "The last time I saw you, you were right here." She bent down and waved her hand to her knee. This is the most classic family conversation starter.
"Of course. After 12 years I'm sure I would've grown by now." I huffed.
"Where is your mother," She asked me after laughing a bit.
"Mrs. (L/n) is upstairs." Amane came back to the conversation.
The intimidating women glared at the black-haired boy as if saying 'I didn't ask you.'
I fell to my knees once she left. That woman was scarier than any nightmares I've had. But I was glad she wasn't my father. Thank God for that.
