Chapter 26
Tris' POV (this was written entirely on my phone so sorry for any grammar / spelling mistakes)
He holds my hand as we walk along the evening beach, the soft sand cushioning my bare feet. Our fingers are intertwined as our arms swing gently back and forth.
The sound of the waves soothes me and the smell of the ocean is so unfamiliar yet welcoming all at once.
Stars are starting to dot the sky and the sun's leaving behind a trail of amber.
Laughter echoes out from the beach house where the rest of our friends are currently lighting fire pit.
We continue to walk and Tobias is humming the tune to 'Beating Heart' as he continues to smile down at me.
"Wanna hear your beating heart tonight..."
His arms wrap around my waist and his face nuzzles into my neck. Goosebumps form on my skin as his lips brush my neck and he continues to sing.
"Before the bleeding sun comes alive..."
He spins me round so I'm facing him and he sways us back and forth.
"I want to make the best of what is left, hold tight..."
He bows and places a kiss over my engagement ring.
"And hear my beating heart one last time."
He pulls me closer and my breath catches before he steals it with a passionate kiss.
"Come on, Tris," he says and licks his lips. "Dance with me."
"I can't," I say. "I don't know how."
"Let me teach you."
His hand reach down to behind my knees and he help me to jump and wrap my short legs round his waist. His hands rest under my bum whilst mine drape round his neck.
He starts to sway and spin as his steps leave trails in the sand.
"You see, it's easy," he smirks and places a kiss on the tip of my nose. "Two forward, one left and back. Two forward, one right and spin." On 'spin' he lifts me above his head and my hands press into his shoulders, but he doesn't put me down once he's stopped spining, instead he continues to hold me in the air. "What's the world like from up there, Tris?"
"Beautiful." the night air caresses my skin and the wind ruffles my cropped hair. "I've never seen it like this before..."
"That's because you're so short."
"I don't mean the height, silly. I mean the grace, inocence, freedom that just calms the soul and purifies the mind."
"So you like it here?" He says and lowers me back down to rest on his hips.
"Mhm," I hum and pepper kisses down his neck.
"Then what would you say if I said I'd found a beach house here, just for us? For a family?"
"I'd say I'm the luckiest girl alive."
"Then... I've found a beach house," he says and our lips collide.
"Wow, Tobias, are you for real?"
"Yes, come on, I'll show you the house."
We continue to walk along the beach but this time, he's practically dragging me across the silky sand.
"Slow down!" I call out in between fits of giggles as my feet stumble clumsily.
He lets out a low chuckle before stoping and quickly scooping me up in his arms, "for God's sake, I'll just carry you," and he runs.
Tobias races across the beach as we cheer and laughter in tune with one another until a beautifully light up house glows in the distance.
"Is that it?" I ask and grin hopeful.
"Yep."
Old jam jars hang on strings with candles lit inside each are strewn around the roof and porch banisters. The wooden wall are painted a place blue and the windows white. The porch banister is make from old pieces of drift wood and the steps leading up to it are drift wood too.
We make our way up to the front door and Tobias hands me a small key. it slots perfectly into the lock and the aged piece of oak swings open. "It's beautiful," I breath out and his arms snake around my waist.
Overall, it's fairly small but the open plan makes it seem humongous. the entire bottom floor is made up of the kitchen, dining and living room. There's a wooden spiral staircase that sits neatly in the left hand corner where a set of patio door open on to a balcony that extends out over the ocean, forming a doc.
The countertops in the kitchen and breakfast bar are all made of a light wood and overhead cupboards are painted white.
In the dining section is a large circular table with many chairs that surround it.
In the living room are two grey couches, a fireplace and a small tv that sits above it.
I slowly make my way up the stairs am am greeted by a long hallway with five doors. "Which one's ours?" I ask and his hand rest on my hips from behind.
"Straight ahead," he says and guides me towards the small door.
Before me is a large room. The back wall is almost an entire window that looks out over the ocean. There's a queen sized bed with white sheets and a grey comforter in the center, a door to the right leads to a wardrobe that I can already see is stacked to the brim with both clothes for Tobias and I and to the left is an end unite bathroom.
"Christina helped me to decorate and pick clothes for you," Tobias says as his him rests on top of my head.
"I love it," I say as I spin and capture his lips with my own. "I love you."
"I love you too, Tris. But theres one more thing."
He leads me back down the stairs and out onto the doc where the edges are lined with even more of the jam jar lights. At the far end of it is sat a picnic basket and a soft blanket. "after you, ma' lady," he says and wiggles his eyebrows at the same time.
Once we're both seated and comfortable - I'm nuzzled into his side as his arms hold my waist - he removes a green bottle and two long glasses from the basket. At the cork is removed, it lets out a loud bang and he pours the fixing liquid into the two dainty glasses.
He hand me one of them and I take a quick sniff if it before asking, "ooh, what's this?"
"Champagne," he responds and places a soft kiss on my forehead.
"Fancy," I sing and we both laugh softly as the waves continue to roll in and out of the small cove where our house is located.
"Let's make a toaste," he says and raises his glass.
"Yes, let's."
"To us,"
"To the future,"
"To the now,"
"Yes, Tobias... To the spectacular now."
We clink our glasses and take a small sip of the fizzing liquid.
"What do you think?" He says and takes a few more sips of bathe drink.
"I'm tasting the stars."
A/N
Hello, you beautiful people! Our story is sadly coming to an end... only one more chapter and a prologue are left of it )':
On to a happier note... Exams are over and the summer holidays are only 2.5 weeks away! (I live in England where our schools have crappy timing when it comes to vacations... I miss America so much! Someone please take me back to Vermont... anybody? Anybody? Nope? Fine.)
As always, I do not own Divergent because my name is not Veronica Roth and I haven't written an amazing trilogy that had one if the most traumatizing endings known to fangirls, ever.
