Dear Matthew,

I have many things to say to you, but first thing's first: July first is your birthday, right? Well, I hope that you are having a brilliant birthday so far.

The second thing that I would like to do is apologise.

I know that I have never been the best brother. You don't have to accept this apology; in fact, don't even reply. My only request is that you read it.

I don't always notice you. Even when you were a child, I would rarely see you, and would forget about you. Everytime I realise it again, I feel the same thing again, just worse every time...

I know that this won't be the last time that this happens. Sooner or later, I'll forget you again. I'll confuse you with Alfred. I won't even see you. And for this, I am sorry.

I hope that despite all of this that you can have a happy birthday....
