#2: The Lonely Vigilante

It's now daylight, and police cars are at the abandoned church. They also brought a truck with a crane installed to dispose of the blown-up car, and an ambulance to treat the injured criminals. The one leading the operation is Police Captain Dubois, a thin old man with white beard, and standing in front of all the C4 explosives, already removed from the church and on the ground.

_Dubois: How many kilos in total, cadet?

_Officer: Sir, it's a total of 54.2 kilograms, sir.

_Dubois: ...Seriously, that many? Damn, these bastards only need about 35 kilos to blow that church sky high, and yet they clearly wanted to overdo it. My God, back in my days they only did the necessary amount, but these ones are getting crazier and crazier.

_Officer: Oh, and also sir, we found an AR-15 rifle, but it's been broken in half.

_Dubois: See? That's what I mean. "Police brutality" my ass, these men take the cake and run with it. Tch, bastards.

A sound makes them turn around, and see the broken car finally placed on the truck.

_Dubois: Hey cadet, make sure that those guys handle the car with care, it may still contain additional equipment from the criminals.

_Officer: Yes sir.

The officer heads to the truck, and leaves. Dubois looks at the explosives again. Then, footsteps are heard, and Canabel approaches the captain! Dramatic pause.

_DUBOIS: CANABEL, IT WAS YOU WHO STOPPED THE CRIMININALS, RIGHT?

_CANABEL: Yes, captain DUBOIS.

(Silence)

_Dubois: Canabel, say... don't you think that this is a sign from God?

_Canabel: ...why?

_Dubois: Because many times I've been asking for your help, and yesterday you just happened to meet these criminals and stopped them. Don't you think that God is telling you to fight crime with us?

_Canabel: ...

_Dubois: Name your price. You want money? We can pay anything. A house? No problem. You want to be chief of the operations? WE WILL GIVE IT TO YOU.

_Canabel: ...

_Dubois: But trust me, son, the world needs people like you right now. The police will never admit it, but we're struggling to keep up with all these criminals popping up here and there, attacking churches all over France. And not just here, Spain and Italy are being targeted too, all possibly done by the same criminal organization.

_Canabel: ...

_Dubois: So? How does it sound? You wanna help?

Silence. Canabel approaches him even closer.

_Canabel: MARK 12:17, "Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and TO God what belongs to God". There is nothing in this human world that could ever CONVICE me, CAPTAIN.

Canabel turns and leaves, heading back towards the church. Dubois stares.

_Dubois: If you ever change your mind, come to the police office!

_Canabel: (waves while still showing his back) Yees, I know!

(Next Scene)

Transition to the afternoon, as sunset begins to occur. What follows are numerous scenes meant to flow alongside the next narration.

"Among police officers in all of France, rumors talk about a mysterious man in a trench coat, invading numerous abandoned churches throughout the country. Witnesses claim that he is very dangerous and has superhuman strength, as well as an infinite supply of guns and ammunition. However, it is said that if you offer him alcohol, especially black wine, he will be friendly and let you talk to him.

However, that is not all. For some reason, he cleans and wipes the floors of the churches he invades, as well as cutting its grass and even repainting some of the decayed walls. And once he finishes restoring them as much as he can, he leaves, moving onto the next abandoned church. His name, according to the very few policemen who managed to talk to him...

IS CANABEL."

Show Canabel through various scenes swiping the floors of the main hall with an old broom, later cutting very tall grass with a scythe and the bushes with a gardening scissor. He also grabs a wooden ladder, paint, a paint roller, and begins to brush a very large, decayed wall. Zoom out to show there are a lot of walls in that state as well. Finally, Canabel sits on the main hall's upmost forward bench, staring emotionlessly at the beautiful shrine in front of him, for a very long time.

(Note: Sync the final line of the narration with a high angle shot of Canabel, as if the shrine is looking back at him)
