chapter 11 [1/2]
"Crapcrapcrap, I'll be dead, I'm going to die!"
Jeongyeon and Tzuyu rose from bed when Momo burst in. They approached the girl who looked distressed.
"What happened?" Tzuyu asked.
"I'mgoingtodieI'mgoingtodieI'mgoingtodiehewouldkillmeandwe'llloseourhopewe'llnevermakeittojypentertainment."
"Whoa, calm down dude, can you repeat in slow pace please, we're not Superman," Jeongyeon said.
"Slow down."
Momo took deep breath. "My father wants to visit."
"That's great," Jeongyeon said but then it hit her. "OH OH CRAP! YOUR FATHER WANTS TO MEET YOU!?"
Momo groaned. "That's what I'm saying!!!"
"But you're here, and he thinks you're in another school. That's big problem. We should do something!" Tzuyu said, hands on waist, thinking. "When will he come for visit?"
"This weekend," Momo said. She slumped on bed, palming face. "He'd be mad at me if he knows I'm lying and never enter the other school."
Tzuyu and Jeongyeon seated beside the distressed girl. "We have three days until weekend," Tzuyu said.
"What should we do?"
Jeongyeon pursed her lips. "I got an idea; ask Jinyoung. I think he can help us."
"It's the only way. We'll ask Jinyoung tomorrow, what do you think?"
Momo nodded at Tzuyu. "Thanks guys." Tzuyu and Jeongyeon patted her shoulders. She hoped the teacher would help them for she had no idea neither had courage to face her father.
-
The next day, they went to meet Jinyoung before class. Jinyoung promised he would help since it was his idea they came to the Academy. Momo trusted the teacher and they left his office in relief.
"See, he will help us. Don't worry besides we have your back," Jeongyeon said. She took Momo's shoulder.
Momo smiled gratefully. "Thanks guys, really."
"Okay, now we better go to School of Theatre building," Tzuyu said.
Momo nodded and they headed for white building school. Today they had class together with School of Theatre fourth-year students for the first time. As soon as they entered the building they were amazed by ancient till modern statues. Nayeon who was waiting for them near stairs, together they headed to class.
Momo glanced over the class. She gave smile and wave at basket team boys they were students of School of Theatre and once again looked at the room. The class was three times bigger than usual class. It had stage at the front.
"Is all classrooms here like this?" she asked Nayeon.
"Yes, you'll see stage in every room here. Have you ever done drama class before?" Nayeon asked Haru.
"I heard this class is interesting and Mr. Hwang is funny."
"Mr. Hwang?" Momo asked. Before Nayeon could reply the door opened and a man with bowl hairstyle, dressing in unbelievable bright red suit walked in.
"That is Mr. Hwang?"
Nayeon nodded, pressing lips together. They stood up and bowed, greeting the teacher.
Momo sat back to her chair and watched as the teacher looked at them, clapping hands once, smiling brightly.
"Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind, and therefore, is winged Cupid painted blind. Good morning ladies and gentlemen. What a lovely day today, isn't it? A day without sunshine is like, you know, night."
Jeongyeon's sudden claps broke silence of the room. Momo turned to Jeongyeon, frowned.
"It's Steve Martin's, you know," Jeongyeon said, confused that no one knew the famous quote.
Momo tilted head in confusion. Tzuyu mirrored her, confused as well. Nayeon just giggled. They turned their gazes back when the teacher cleared his throat to get their attention.
"Usually my students won't recognize the quote, thank you Mr..."
Jeongyeon rose to feet. "Yoo sir, Yoo Kyungwan."
"Mr. Yoo, thank you."
Momo pressed lips together watched as Jeongyeon grinned proudly. "Since when do you read books?"
"Hey, I can read a book too you know," Jeongyeon said to Momo and wriggled brows at Nayeon. "I think I like this teacher." They looked at her as if she had said weird thing. The teacher voice brought their attention back to class.
"Since today is joint class so I want to introduce you the essence of theatre, which is expression. There are ways to express one's feeling, with words," Kwang Hee said, looking over at students. "Gestures and facial. A great actor could speak even only with eyes..."
Momo listened earnestly as Kwang Hee walked from side to side of stage, explaining the importance of expression in high tension. "Is he always like that?" she whispered to Nayeon. The girl nodded as reply and giggled. She looked back at Kwang Hee and saw he was taking a book from desk. She wondered what kind of class they would have.
"So, I need volunteers, anyone? Anyone wants to give a try?"
Momo jolted up from her chair when Jeongyeon suddenly pinched her thigh. "What was that?"
"We got a volunteer! everyone give applause! Come over here gentleman."
"No sir, I..." Momo shook head but Kwang Hee beckoned her to come and the class was encouraging her. After sending glare toward Jeongyeon, she reluctantly walked toward stage. Kwang Hee took her shoulder, turning her around to face the class.
"So, what is your name?"
"Hirai Haru," Momo replied, trying not to glare when she spotted Jeongyeon giving thumbs up, encouraging her.
"Okay, and now we need the partner, a girl I wish, anyone?"
Momo couldn't decide if she was surprised or annoyed as every girl in the class lifted their hands eagerly. Kwang Hee didn't help at all, he patted her back.
"Wow, we have many here, how to choose Mr. Hirai?"
Momo rolled her eyes mentally. Kwang Hee chose student of School of Theatre and other girls lowered their hands in disappointment. The girl stepped on the stage, smiling at her.
"Mr. Hirai, I need you to read this poetry to Ms. Park, think as if she is your girlfriend," Kwang Hee said.
Momo dropped her jaw a little and heard squeals and whistles from the class. She turned to Rose. The girl was looking at her shyly. Kwang Hee handed the book to her, giving nod. 'Damn you Jeongyeon'
"Silent please," Kwang Hee said to the class. "Mr. Hirai in three, two, one, and action."
Momo cleared her throat and looked down at the book. However, as she read the romance poetry she felt dizzy, too romantic for her taste. Kwang Hee cleared his throat, telling her to start. She sucked in deep breath and read the poetry out.
"I don't know how, or when, or where it comes. But when..."
"No, no, no," Kwang Hee cut in. "What just I've told you earlier? It needs not only words to express your feeling, but also emotion. Once again Mr. Hirai, with emotion."
Momo rolled her eyes mentally. 'Easier said than done' She took another deep breath, trying to pull her emotion. But it vanished when she looked at the shyly smiling girl in front of her. 'How could I? I don't have feeling for this girl' She turned to Kwang Hee and he gave nod. 'With emotion Momo, you can do it, just think as if you say to someone you like'
Momo closed her eyes, imagining that she would read the poetry to someone she liked. "I don't know how, or when, or where it comes, but when I open my eyes it is always you," she said. Slowly she opened her eyes and froze for a moment as it was the student representative girl who stood before her. Mina was grinning at her. Her brain was confused but the words kept flowing out from her mouth. "I am not perfect, but if you want me I will be your best." Mina's grin turned to warm smile and she smiled back.
"You are not perfect either, but I love all of you, even your imperfection."
Claps and squeals from the class snapped Momo out from her imagination. She blinked and found Rose before her, blushing even deeper. She felt disappointed a little. Kwang Hee patted her back in proud.
"Bravo Mr. Hirai, bravo! That was wonderful, you really put the emotion. Oh my heart,"
Momo lifted eyebrow a little as Kwang Hee wiped his tears. He then took her shoulder.
"Do you have interest in theatre? Because we would glad if you join us. Those words come from you and your expression, I believe will hypnotize audience."
"And make our student representative fall head over heels!"
At Jengyeon's statement all girls started to squeal. Momo felt her face turned hot from embarrassment. She gave stern face to Jeongyeon but the girl just grinned widely at her. Even Tzuyu and Nayeon were also laughing. 'I'll kill that girl!' A pat from Kwang Hee reminded her that she was still on stage.
"Wait a minute, you're that famous new student? No wonder. It's a pleasure to finally can meet you," Kwang Hee said to the boy and turned to the class.
"Give a big applause to Mr. Hirai!"
"That's our hyung! Hyung, you are the best!"
Momo forced a smile despite the need to dig a hole and hide inside. Finally Kwang Hee released her and she half ran back to her seat. As soon as she reached their table she thought to slap Jeongyeon's head but the girl quickly grabbed Nayeon as a shield. Well, she would have plenty time after they get back to dorm, she thought devilishly.
-
The bell rang and everyone sighed, relieved. Jeongyeon closed her notebook and textbook.
"You think we'll have steak sometimes?"
Nayeon turned to Kyungwan, shaking head.
"But I want to eat steak," Jeongyeon said.
"Buy it yourself," Momo said.
"You're still mad at me because of yesterday class?"
"No, I'm not angry with you." Momo rose from chair, walking toward Jeonyeon's desk. "Just want to give you this."
Jeongyeon quickly ran away when Momo tried to grab her shirt.
"NAYEON! HELP ME!"
"Kyungwan," Nayeon laughed as the boy ran behind her, avoiding Haru. She glanced at Xiumin and the boy just shook his head. She turned her gaze when she saw Kei at doorway.
"Haru," she called to stop the blonde boy and pointed toward door.
Momo turned around and saw the senior girl. "Hi Kei," she greeted. She ignored Jeongyeon's whistle.
"Hi, Haru. Can we talk for moment?"
Momo nodded, following the girl outside. "So, you want to talk?"
"Actually I want to ask you to have lunch together, if you don't mind," Kei said. "I want to ask you before honestly, as a thank you for saving me, but you know you're always busy." She giggled when Haru pressed his lips in annoyance. Found his face cute.
"I'm glad can help but it isn't necessary," Momo said and quickly added. "I mean you don't have to, but of course I would like it."
"Really?" Kei couldn't help a grin. Haru nodded, smiling back. "Good. I'll be waiting for you at back garden."
Momo nodded, watching as the senior girl left with big grin on face. Kei had helped her with her homework before. Besides, Kei was her senior she thought it would be impolite to reject.
"So, having date with another girl. Be careful someone will get jealous," Jeongyeon teased.
Momo turned around and stuck tongue out. She ignored grin from Tzuyu and Nayeon.
"See you later guys!"
Momo walked toward back garden. She found Kei sitting on bench near pond with lunch box on lap. The girl waved hand.
"Sorry, making you wait," she said.
"No, not at all," Kei said. She put the lunch box between them and took chopsticks for him.
"Thank you," Momo said. "It looks delicious. Do you make it yourself?"
Kei nodded. "I borrowed kitchen, I hope it tastes good." She giggled when Haru took a piece of kimbap and eyes widened, nodding.
Meanwhile, Tzuyu and Jeongyeon walked across formal garden toward back garden Jeongyeon insisted. Tzuyu could tell what the real purpose but decided to let Jeongyeon with whatever plan she had.
"Hi, boys."
Tzuyu stopped when she heard familiar voice. Sana waved hands, approaching them. She thought to run but it would be rude so she stood there but held gaze to ground.
"Where are you going?" Sana asked. "Hi, Xiumin," she greeted the tallest boy.
"I'm sorry but I forgot something in dining room, gotta go," Tzuyu said and left after giving a polite bow.
Sana was disappointed when Xiumin left. 'Is it just me or he's avoiding me?' she wondered. She then turned to Kyungwan.
"By the way, where's Haru?"
"Having lunch at back garden," Jeongyeon replied.
"Oh, lunch?" Sana grinned. Kyungwan nodded back and excused himself. She then pulled out her phone, deciding to tease the girl. It was five seconds later that a reply from Mina came.
"Mina's with Principal Kahi? It means..." She looked up and grinned.
Jeongyeon let out a sigh. Momo was having lunch date with Kei; Tzuyu was god knew where, hiding from Sana: and she couldn't find Nayeon. She was bored alone. She decided to look for Momo. Perhaps she could have some pictures for future purpose, she thought. She walked toward back garden. However, her grin vanished when she spotted Nayeon with a boy. 'What are they doing?' Curiously she approached the two and stood behind a cherry tree.
"So, uh, will you go out with me?"
Nayeon pushed her glasses up. The boy asked her out this weekend, a date. This was the first time someone asked her out and she didn't know what to reply. She knew him. Still she never had a date before. "I..."
"If you want to ask her out, you've gotta go through me first."
Nayeon turned around when she heard the voice. "Kyungwan," she said. Kyungwan took her shoulder. 'Is he glaring?'
"Do you like Nayeon? If you don't seriously like her then I say you back off, because I won't give her easily to anyone," Jeongyeon said to the boy.
'Kyungwan..' Nayeon was taken aback. She could only stare at the boy who held her shoulder protectively. Nobody ever said those words to her.
Jeongyeon glanced at Nayeon and smiled before looking back at the other boy, an eyebrow up.
The small smile from Kyungwan made Nayeon blush and at the same time feel safe. Kyungwan gave light squeeze on her shoulder and her heart fluttered at the small gesture.
"He's gone."
Nayeon blinked and finally realized they were alone. The other boy had left. She released a breath. "He's gone?"
"Yup," Jeongyeon folded arms before chest. "You like that kind of guy? I think he's not your type, not cool, and looks weak. He just ran off when I scared him. I won't give my friend to that type of guy."
"Friend." The word came out in a whisper from Nayeon's mouth. She looked aside and felt the happy feeling was taken away from her.
"Hey, what's wrong?" Jeongyeon asked the suddenly turned quiet girl.
Nayeon turned to Kyungwan, giving a punch on his forearm.
"Ah! Hey! what was that for?"
"You ruined my almost first date." Nayeon pushed Kyungwan's shoulder and walked past him. She knew they were just friend and there was no way Kyungwan would look at her that way, still it hurt her a little.
"Nayeon, wait!"
Nayeon stopped and sighed. "What?" she said in annoyance but when Kyungwan pushed his lower lip out she couldn't help a smile. She would never get angry at him.
"You look bad when pouting you know."
"Sorry?" Jeongyeon's face lit up when Nayeon nodded. "Thanks." She was about to grab the girl's shoulder when she caught Momo with Kei sitting on bench in front of pound.
"Hey, it's them." She pulled Nayeon with her.
Nayeon looked down at his hand. It didn't matter even they were just friend, she thought, as long as this hand always held her. They stood behind tree, hiding.
"Don't you think we should give them privacy?"
Nayeon narrowed her eyes when Kyungwan grinned. She knew what was in his head. She thought to pull him away but saw another person.
"Mina..."
Jeongyeon turned around and saw the student representative girl and Sana. "Oh man, this is gonna be fun," she said. But Nayeon slapped her forearm, pulling her away from the crime scene.
"Where are we going? I wanna see...ouch!"
Nayeon pinched Kyungwan's arm, quickly dragging him away.
"At least let me take a picture," Jeongyeon said but another pinch replied her. "Nayeon!"
Meanwhile, Mina stopped when she saw Haru. Next to him was the same girl who was with Haru at library the other day. They were chatting and laughing, and she could tell now that the girl had hit on Haru.
"Who's that girl?"
"Kim Ji-yeon, but people calls her Kei, fifth-year. Looks like someone's trying to take your precious boy," Sana teased. When Mina didn't send a glare, still staring at the other two she added. "It's just lunch between senior and junior, between friends," she said but then closed mouth tight.
Haru, however, didn't realize Mina's presence. "Thank you for the lunch," she said to Kei.
"You're welcome, I'm glad can finally thank you properly," Kei said. "I didn't make someone else jealous, did I?"
"Who? No," Momo said but then wondered herself. 'Nah, it wasn't like we're dating'
"So, it means I have chance."
Momo turned to Kei at the sudden statement. The girl surprised her by kissing her cheek. She only watched as Kei leaned back, smiling shyly.
"See you around, Haru," Kei said and left after glancing at the stunned boy.
After a moment the realization that Kei had kissed her finally hit Momo and she jerked head aside.
"What was..."
Momo's word was caught in her throat when her eyes met Mina's. Mina just looked at her for moment and turned on heel.
Sana shook her head, offering small smile to Haru, and following the pissed Mina.
Momo was confused. 'Why did she get angry?' She then slapped head mentally. "You know exactly what the reason is, idiot." She looked toward the direction Mina had left to, and breathed out a heavy sigh.
