Prologue pt 4
Previously, Saike Shiro, a young prodigy, returned home from school, and reflected on her relations with her estranged family members. Will she reconnect with her older brothers? Find out!
Saike Shiro
Speaking of my brothers, perhaps I will pay them a visit. The youngest of my older brothers, Kuso, is constantly challenging the oldest, Kish, and Kieran, the middle of the three, wants desperately to prove himself to the others. I suppose this is mainly because Kieran has only truly been part of the family since a year ago when we discovered that Kieran was our long lost brother. Well, technically, Kish's long lost brother and mine and Kuso's long lost half brother.
When you start envying soap opera characters for their simplistic lives, you know something is wrong.
With those reminders of my confusing family tree, I pick up a coat and pull it on. I quickly grab the presents I planned to get for their birthdays, but have not managed to present to them due to many last-minute cancellations.
I pull out my phone, sending a relatively quick text to my best(?) friend: Good evening. It has been a while since I have contacted you, mainly since the time my thirteenth birthday celebration was canceled. I fully intend to deliver the presents that have been missed since the five of us, you, me, and my brothers have gathered together. Please bring yourself and inform Kuso as well, since he is far more likely to answer you than me. Meet me in front of our old home. Signed, Saike Shiro.
After that short text, I send similar texts to Kish and Kieran. Then I stop in front of the old Haiyokama children's home in the center of town. Broken and abandoned, nobody has set foot here since my older brothers bought me my own home. Kieran barely lived with us, while Kish had left the second he could and Kuso managed to circumvent the nice owner of the children's home. After the owner adopted my best friend and my brothers bought my house, nobody has been here.
Before long, I hear footsteps. I turn, expecting to see the black hair of Kuso and the blonde hair of Kieran and Kish, or perhaps whatever color my friend's was these days, but I do not see any familiar people at all.
Instead, I see three non-human figures in the distance. Upon closer inspection, one is a girl wearing a bra and knee-length pants. Her tanned figure is covered in grey markings that glow green whenever she takes a swig from a flask at her waist. Her shorts go to her knees and she's only wearing a bra, but somehow does not come across as a slut, even with the small whiplike tail curling from her pants. Her shoulder-length brown hair looks smooth, despite her drunkenness. She has two arcing horns that slide away from her face, down and back up.
The taller man next to her has similar horns and gray tattoos, but his hair is auburn and far closer to his head than the lady's hair. It's very clearly styled an effect that may-or-may-not diminish with his unshaven face. His most notable piece of clothing is his tattered cape, but to be honest, despite his clearly handsome facade, I barely paid him any heed, except to notice one of your typical 'demon' looking tail curling around his leg.
The third figure was another man, this one notably less of a superior specimen when it came to the physical aspect, and I suspected that he was equally less superior in his approach as well. This man was not well-muscled, but instead reasonably healthy. He had blonde hair he cut short and his eyes were small. He slouched a little and stuck his hands in his pockets. He was also smoking. Each time he took a puff, his own gray markings glow yellow. To accentuate his non-fit demeanor, he has a short, stubby tail and small pointed horns.
"Now, Cana, remember to introduce yourself properly." The noticeably more fit non-human male says to the female.
"I remember, Dad." She complains, before turning to me. "Call me Beer. I'm the demon representing the human addiction to ― you guessed it ― beer."
"Don't call me Dad,"
The girl ― Cana? Beer? ― rolls her eyes. "Whatever, Dad."
"Yeah, leave her be, Gildarts." The smoking non-human male chides the more athletic one.
"Hey, you stay out of this, Wakaba!" Gildarts-san growls back.
