"I said too much, it overflowed..
"Why do I always spill?"
Sunday, January 2nd, 2022.
I arrived school about three hours ago, I had a philosophy and a history class so I didn't get the chance to encounter any of my friends.
Hopefully, I hadn't encounter Liam as well. And I wish I never do, in that matter.
Heading to the Cafeteria for lunch, I found Emma waving at me to sit with them as she grinned. Although, Mia's expression was not quite pleasing.
Olivia was not bothering as she was fixing her make-up with a small mirror.
I brought my favorite lunch and went to sit with them on the table.
"What's up?" I said, awkwardly placing my lunch.
Olivia stared at me with pity as she placed down her mirror. "Oh my god, Evelyn. Are you okay?"
"Yes, why?" I asked, knowing exactly why, but not bothering to focus on it.
Mia stood up, glaring at me. Then she headed to the bathroom without saying a word, as we all eyed her confusedly.
"About the break up!" Olivia pouted, "I'm sure it's been rough for you."
"Oh, no." I said, taking a bite of my sandwich as I looked away. "Actually, It's fine."
Emma and Olivia glanced at each other, silently. Then looked back at me.
They were probably confused of how unbotherd I was by the break up.
But as a matter of fact, I was horribly aching, just not because of me ditching him. It was because of the painful scars I had, but couldn't been able to show.
"Are you sure?" Emma questioned. "You and Liam were like the flawless couple."
I chuckled, chewing on my food. "To you, yeah we were. But it actually isn't the truth." I scoffed, then stopped eating as I leaned closer to them and whispered. "We were terrifyingly horrible."
Olivia and Emma stared at me with a curled lip, as though they were concerned about my mental state.
And they should have been.
"How much horrible?" Mia harshly asked, folding her arms at me. Olivia and Emma flinched at her sudden action, but I was too stunned to figure how suspicious Mia was acting that day.
"Uhh," I stuttered, not wanting to mention the abusive relationship I've been through. But also wanting to state a reason that would make sense to them. "Really horrible."
"What did he do for you to break up with him?" she asked, as though she was testing me to give her an answer that would satisfy her in a way.
"Well-..we had a big fight. And he was very mean to me." I sorrowfully cleared my throat, unable to make eye contact. "He humiliated me in so many ways."
"You're a liar." Mia curled her lip, her eyes were flaming in rage. "Fucking pathetic."
My eyes met her gaze, I couldn't handle more humiliation from anyone again.
I got up, violently smashing the lunch on the table. "What do you mean by that?"
Everyone's attention was on us as Olivia and Emma gasped in terror.
"Liam told me everything about your break up." she shouted, making everyone's eyes widen from such news, "You really think you're gonna get away with that?"
"Get away with what?" I frowned at her, as Olivia got up and tried to calm me down.
"Okay, both of you. Stop!" she yelled, standing between us.
I couldn't imagine the lies Liam must have told Mia to make her feel that he wasn't the reason for our break up.
I mean, she was closer too him than his actual sister. She would have believed anything he said after all.
Gritting my teeth, I gently pushed Olivia away from both us. "No, I really wanna know what lies he told you!"
"It doesn't matter what you know. You did it anyway." Mia said, "You betrayed both of us."
I shook my head, frowning at her words with much confusion. "The fuck are you talking about?!"
"I'm talking about you being a fucking slut!" she shouted at me, while everyone gasped and laughed at that.
"Mia what the hell?!" Olivia argued, and Emma glared at her.
I couldn't control my anger any longer, I felt my stomach aching in disgust as my teeth kept gritting together.
"I'll show you who's the real slut." I clenched my jaw, rushing to her as I proceeded to violently grab her hair, but I was startled with a punch from her that I gratefully avoided.
Everyone was video recording us, It didn't bother me, cause I was already boiling in rage.
I grabbed her by the edge of the jacket and slapped her face hard that it caused a smacking noise that made her fall down to the floor.
I got on my knees and shouted at her. "Don't you dare spit shit that you don't know nothing about!"
As I let go of her, I felt heavy hands gripping on my shoulder as they got me up. It was the school's security taking me to the principal's office.
Glancing back at the crowd, I found everyone rushing to Mia as their eyes were widened at me.
Shit. I just fricking slapped her.
What have I done?
...
Getting out of the principal's office, I silently hurried to the bathroom, making sure no one has saw me.
I entered the bathroom as I texted Olivia and Emma, hurrying them up to come and find me.
I never wanted to do this, but I also texted Mikhail for help.
Today.
Me : You need to come and pick me, right now!
Mikhail : Why do I have to?
Me : Don't bring your driver.
(Seen.)
Five minutes passed already and they still hadn't come yet.
I heard the bathroom's door getting opened, which made me a little bit frightened as I hid behind the door.
"Evelyn?" I heard Olivia searching for me with Emma.
"Here." I whispered, making sure the door was closed.
"What happened?" Emma questioned.
"I got a detention. The principal called my parents and they're supposed to arrive now." I nervously said, playing with my fingers. "I can't let them see me, I ran away from home."
"You what?!" Olivia questioned, frowning in shock.
"It's a long story. They are not satisfied with me breaking up with Liam. If I went back home, they will force me to get back with him and fix things. And I can't do that, I've had enough."
"Where are you going to stay then?!"Olivia asked with worry.
"I'm staying at a friend's house." I stated, knowing that if I told them it was a seventeen year old guy's mansion who's not just a mafia member but also an FBI agent, I'd seem suspiciously weird as hell.
"What kind of friend?" Olivia knitted her brows again.
"You have other friends?" Emma questioned with a pout.
I shook my head, "Look, I have no time to explain. They're a trusted friend. So don't worry about me."
"I'm not worrying about you, I'm worrying about your parents scolding you." Olivia clarified, which felt quite hurtful.
"That is gonna happen anyway." I scoffed, pointing my finger at her. "Just don't tell him who I am with, alright? Pretend you don't know anything."
"Well, they must have asked us about you yesterday." Olivia said, rubbing her chin. "But we never had the chance to answer cause of the party."
"Good thing you hadn't." I sighed.
"But what are we gonna say to Liam and Mia if they asked about you?" Emma questioned again.
"We shouldn't be talking to Mia, not after what she did!" Olivia stated to Emma with a frown.
"You're right she was a complete asshole!" Emma nodded at her.
"Neither do you have to say anything to Liam!" I commanded them, "Even if he acted clingy to both of you."
"Alright, got it." Olivia and Emma nodded.
The bathroom went silent for a moment, as I looked down, anxiously biting my lips.
"Speaking of Liam, where was he today?" I awkwardly asked.
"Mia told us he skipped school." Emma said, "He is not feeling alright."
I nodded. Liam never skipped school before, that meant he was truly furious at me.
"And neither should you, honestly." Olivia said, irritatingly looking at me. "Why do I feel like you're not even bothering with what happened?"
"A lot of shit happened that you don't know about." I frowned at her, "Don't assume what I'm feeling inside, unless I show it to you."
The room was again silent, then it got cut off with the sound of a car pulling over. It must have been Mikhail.
"I have to go." I rushed to the door and opened it, finding two security men standing in front of the principal's office.
"Evelyn, wait!" Olivia called out for me but I cared less as I sprinted to the door's exit, hearing the noise of the men's footsteps running after me.
I opened the door and closed it shut on their faces. I found Mikhail's car on the left side and my dad's car just pulling over on the other.
I hid my face with my back pack as I ran to Mikhail's car and hopefully got in.
"Drive!" I yelled, anxiously exhaling my heavy breath.
He noticed how terrified I was from my parents catching me so he started driving fastly.
"Fuck." I exhaustingly glanced back at them from the window and ran my fingers through my hair. "That was close."
...
Anxiously playing with my fingers, Mikhail glared at me with impatience.
We arrived at the mansion two hours later, I was nervously sitting on the couch while he stood in front of me, frustrated, crossing his arms at me.
"Mind explain what the heck happened at school?" he frowned.
I pursed my lips, looking down. "Nothing.."
"Nothing?" he mumbled, chuckling. As he ran his fingers through his hair, he kneeled down, looking into my eyes. "You slapped your best friend, Eve. You got a detention for it."
"Well, she was being a bitch!" I blurted out, irritated.
"Why?" he hissed, I could see how disgruntled he was through his impassioned eyes.
"It seemed that she didn't believe me when I told her me and Liam had a fight that caused us to break up." I uttered, "She thought it was my fault, she blamed me for everything."
"So you slap her in the face?!" he questioned, quite shocked at my manner. But what he didn't know was that, I can get too furious, too violent. It's not a good thing, but I can't help it. "Just tell me the real reason for why you did that." he said.
I didn't know how to explain to him that I uncontrollably slapped one of my closest friends because she humiliated me for breaking up with the one she claimed to be her brother who she had no idea about his abusive drug addiction. I could admit to anyone but Mikhail that I got abused by that trash bag.
Silently I still tilted my head down, he kept staring at me, looking for answers.
"Just forget it." I said with a painful voice.
As I proceeded to get up and leave, I felt his hand gripping on mine, and I looked back at him.
"I'm not going to forget how you easily slapped someone." he said, quite frustrated. "That's not you, Evelyn."
"Well, at least I don't kill them." I glared back at him for a moment, I felt how he immediately got tensed by my words, his eyes were full of agony and heartache.
Mikhail's jaw clenched and his eyes went glossy. He let go of my hand, avoiding eye contact with me as he got up, headed to the door and left the mansion.
I covered my face with my hands, letting out a sigh.
Fuck, I'm so sorry I said that.
Why did I even say that?!
He kind of deserved it, though..
God, why am I so cruel on him?
...
Hours and hours of being stuck in my bedroom, I kept thinking about what I said to Mikhail, about how badly I have hurt him.
I wanted him to come back home so I could talk to him about it, so I could apologize for my actions. But he never seemed to come back anytime soon.
Marcus wasn't home either, he was with Rafael helping him with some work. When I called him he told me that Mikhail wasn't with him and that he didn't know were he was, either.
I was worried he might be with the mafia, Implementing the boss's orders. Which might have caused him harm by any way at that matter.
I heard footsteps downstairs, It must have been Mikhail. I sprung up from bed and went down the stairs, finding Mikhail's bodyguards carrying a lot of shopping bags and heading up stairs to his room. While Mikhail slowly followed them, with no expression on his face.
"You're back." I nervously said, smiling a bit as I played with my fingers.
He took an unbotherd glance at my boring grey pyjama, then he looked away, shoving his hands in his pockets. "Get dressed. We're having important guests soon."
By that, he went up to his room. Not even caring about talking to me.
I sighed with frustration as I went up to dress something more appealing.
...
After about half an hour, I finished getting dressed. I was putting on my make-up as Marcus knocked on the door and hurried me to go downstairs and meet the guests with Mikhail.
I wasn't sure what kind of guests they were, but if Mikhail asked me to get dressed and wanted me to be there with him, it meant he wanted to show me off as his fake girlfriend like he always did.
As I went downstairs, I found Mikhail and Marcus standing with a very charming black haired guy, with a pale white skin and about 6'2 feet tall. His eyes were baby blue and he carried a very beautiful smile.
Beside him was a bald middle aged man who had a scar in his left eyebrow, carrying a cigar in his finger. He seemed to have eyebags, too. But he wasn't tall much. He kind of looked familiar to me.
Once I proceeded to meet them, I felt all eyes on me. A one that I didn't find pleasing was the bald man's look, he instantly frowned at me.
"Eve, meet Don Pietro and Adriano Elio." Mikhail said, and my heart felt down my stomach.
Don Pietro? His brutal mafia boss?
Who literally forced him to be his private killer instead of leaving him to death?
Who was the reason for him to live such an impetuous and heartless life?
Still is.
Nah, I can't deal with that.
I cleared my throat, trembling a bit. "H-..hi. Nice to meet you."
He inhaled his cigar, analyzing me. "Have we met before?" he asked with a harsh tone that sent shivers down my spine.
That's what I was wondering too, you middle aged man.
Clearing my throat again, I shook my head in denial. "I suppose not."
"I feel like I've known you somewhere." Don narrowed his eyes at me, exhaling nicotine.
For a moment, the room went silent. I caught Mikhail glaring at Don as I suddenly felt his hand holding me tight. Not letting go. I confusedly looked into his eyes, finding rage and fear in it. I never understood why.
He then let go of my hand. "This is Eve Thomas, Marcus's step sister."
What the heck?!
Weren't I his girlfriend weeks ago?
And now I am Marcus's step sister?
This keeps getting worse and worse. We don't even look alike.
Marcus's eyes widened as I heard him whispering to Mikhail. "But I'm an orphan."
"When we were searching for information about Marcus's father, we got informed that before two years of his death, Eve got born. And when their father died, she lived only with her mother." Mikhail said, as though it was too easy for him to make shit up. "Now that her mother died too, she is living with us. Please do consider her as a member of this family."
"That's bullshit." I mumbled, gritting my teeth as I glanced at Marcus, finding him shrugging at me.
I then found that Adriano guy proceeding to hold my hand, kissing the back of it. His lips seemed too soft. "You never told me your sister would be that gorgeous, Marcus." he said, grinning at me.
I tried not to blush at that.
Did he just call me gorgeous?
Mikhail curled his lips at us, looking at Don. "May I ask what you came here for? Is there some sort of problem?"
"Ah, don't worry about it." Don threw his hand at him, unconcerned. "I just came here to honor the success you accomplished with the last mission, by throwing a masquerade party next week."
And what success did he accomplish that deserved a whole ass masquerade party for him?
Mikhail looked down with frazzle. "You really don't have to. I was just doing my job."
"And for that, we have to throw a party." Don grinned, pointing out his finger. "Come on, don't you wanna have some fun?"
"Fun is not a thing I do, sir." Mikhail said, both his hand were behind his back.
His attitude got me too confusing when it came to dealing with Don. He seemed to be very invulnerable around him. Which raised my sympathy for him even more.
The room was again silent, Marcus and Adriano glanced at each other.
"At least we're going to have sometime together, the three of us, like the old days." Adriano said, trying to cheer Mikhail up. "I'll stay with you guys these few days before I get back to Italy."
"How about that Mikhail?" Don asked with a devilish smile.
Marcus and Adriano squealed, begging for Mikhail to accept as they kept shaking his shoulder. "Come on!" they both insisted.
With a sigh of irritation, Mikhail rolled his eyes. "Fine."
I never thought mafia members could sometimes be so...cheesy.
