Chapter 4

During the trip, we talked a lot, enough to let Caspian knowing how Peter, Susan, Lucy and Eustace were, how my life was going in London, how Sophia and I met and "how did we get into Narnia." The conversation was also enough for me to know what was happening in Narnia. It had been six years since the adventure in Narnia Dawn Treader. Aslam has not appeared since.

Caspian said that in that morning, very early, a voice woke him, telling him to go to the West and now he understood it was to find myself and Sophia.

  - You know, Ed, I'm very happy to see you again, and the Narnians will rejoice like never before. But I am worried because, with your back means that something not very good is to come.

We arrived at Cair Paravel faster than I expected.

At night, Caspian was keen to give a dinner for our honor - to me and to Sophia.

The night had barely begun and was already busy. The dinner time spent in seconds, but did not end there.

 - Wow, this is more like with some parties in London. - Sophia said.

 - But with fauns, centaurs, dryads and all. - I said, making Sophia laugh.

Caspian approached with a drink in hand.

 - Looks like you're enjoying it, Sophia. I hope it's pleasant.

 - Yes, Your Majesty!

 - Please, just call me Caspian. - He said smiling gently.

 - Okay, Caspian. - She said, returning the smile.

 - Majesty - said a minotaur. - Excuse. Just arrived from the south this letter.

 - Thank you!

Caspian looked seriously at the letter. His countenance changed quickly from relaxed to concerned.

 - Excuse me. - He said, and withdrew.

Sophia looked at me. She had noticed, as I did, that something was wrong.

Minutes later, I looked for Caspian to see if everything was fine. I knocked on the door of his private office.

 - Who is?

 - Edmund.

 - You may come in.

He sat with his hands folded on the table and the letter was left out.

 - Caspian, something happened?

He took a deep breath. He stood up, gave me the letter and began to walk from one side to the other.

I began to read the letter.

"This is not my first letter to you, it's not my first warning. So I will not lengthen.

We are not your servants, and we do not have to accept your decisions. So I think you should fear, for we can act about it anytime we want.

                                                                                                                            Tisroc "

 - Tisroc? What ... What does that mean? It seems some kind of threat. ... But Calormen was not at peace with Narnia? ... I do not understand...

 - Edmund, sit down, please.

I did as he asked, he however, remained standing, still moving from one side to the other.

 - A month ago, Tisroc is showing signs of a new rebellion against Narnia. The reason is that he thinks that I, at least, should do something for them since I surrendered them a few years ago, you know.

 - And what should you do then?

 - Marry his daughter.

 - What?! How can he hold you to that?

 - Argh! Blackmailer who he is! Coward ... you saw the letter? This is the third this week.

I spent a hand on my head, worried.

 - There's nothing to do to reverse the situation, Caspian? - I asked.

 - I've tried a number of ways to persuade him to change his mind, to do some sort of agreement. But to no avail. He stays with the same idea in mind. Not like to admit this, but I think the Calormenes will attack us, and the way they are, they will try to do it the cunning and sneaky way possible. They are angry, especially because of my latest news. - Caspian said, finally stopping and looking at me.

 - What news?

 - I'm groom, Edmund! I will marry Lilliandil.
