Meanwhile

"So, do you know what you have to do?" The Dragon Witch asked Patton.

"Of course I do! I'm not an idiot. Grab them one by one and bring them to you so that we can have some fun with them" He replied.

"Exactly" She smirked. "Best get to it then" With a click of his fingers and a dark puff of smoke, Patton had disappeared.

Meanwhile

"Virgil, are you clear on the plan?" Deceit asked the anxious side as he fiddled with his the ends of his sleeves. The others were all hidden behind Deceit's cottage so that they wouldn't get in the way or get caught. They had begun to dig a hole in order to burry Maddie's lifeless body since they thought that it would be the most respectful thing to do.

"Yep. As soon as Patton gets here, I kiss him" Virgil repeated their plan for the millionth time.

"More or less" Deceit shrugged. "Right, you stay here and I'll go join the others. Good luck" Just as he was leaving, he felt a hand on his shoulder stopping him.

"Wait!" Virgil stopped him, causing him to turn around. "What if he tries to kill me before I get the chance to kiss him?"

"Well, I could always put a protection spell on you if you want" Deceit suggested.

"Wait! There's a protection spell?!?!?!?!?" Virgil practically yelled in shock as Deceit nodded. "Why didn't you use it on us earlier?!?!?!?!?"

"I would have if I had known that Patton was some evil murderer but I didn't. Now do you want the spell or not?" Deceit barked.

"Yeah" 

Closing his eyes, Deceit held out his hand in front of him and waved it around Virgil, causing a purple light to glimmer around him. As soon as Deceit dropped his hand and opened his eyes, the light vanished.

"Okay now he shouldn't hurt you, or more like can't hurt you. Anymore questions?" Virgil shook his head. "Good. Now, good luck" Deceit patted Virgil's back before running behind his cottage to join the others.

"Thanks" Virgil called after him. Now it was just him practically standing in the middle of nowhere. Bored, he decided to sit down on a nearby rock, his elbows on his knees and his chin resting on his hands, as his eyes darted around the area, trying to stay alert at all times and ensure that he wasn't caught off guard.

"Miss me?" A dark voice asked from behind him as he felt a sudden rush of cold air. Sharply turning around, he saw no where there. Suddenly, he felt his arm being tightly grabbed, sharp nails digging into his skin. Looking up, he saw Patton grinning down at him, his arm firmly in his grasp. "Not so alert now are you Anxiety?" Patton chuckled. Virgil shuddered at the name. He hadn't been called Anxiety in a while, especially not by Patton. Patton knew he hated it, hence why he probably used it. Trying to forget about it, Virgil realised that this was his only chance. Just as Patton was about to click his fingers, transporting them both to the Dragon Witch's castle, Virgil leant and planted a soft, gentle kiss on Patton's lips. His eyes widening in shock, Patton accidently dropped Virgil to the floor. 

As Virgil quickly scrambled to his feet. Patton was lifted into the air and began to spin, a bright, white light surrounding him. Darkness flew off of him and onto the atmosphere as lightness flew towards him, latching onto him. Eventually, he stopped spinning and was slowly lowered to the ground. Every spot of darkness had vanished completely and the real Patton was back. A wide smile on his face, Virgil ran towards Patton, throwing his arms around him and engulfing him in a hug.

"You...you saved me!" Patton smiled. "Thank you Virgil. Thank you so much"

"Of course! I...you're my best friend! Of course I'd save you!" As these words flew out of his mouth, Virgil mentally scolded himself. After all this time, was he still too anxious to confess his feelings? He literally just kissed him and still didn't have the courage to say that he loved him.

"And you're my best friend too" Patton smiled even though on the inside, he was heart broken. He had already confessed his feelings to Virgil (even though he was dark then but he still thought it counted), actually had Virgil kiss him and Virgil still only saw them as friends. But Patton yearned to be much more than that. He couldn't show that or make Virgil feel guilty though so he just had to pretend that he was fine. Not that he didn't already though. "Um...sorry for trying to kill you" Patton awkwardly apologised.

"Patton, it's fine. I know that wasn't really you. It wasn't your fault" Just then, Patton remembered that he did actually kill someone.

"Maddie" He gasped before pulling away from Virgil. "Where is she? Is she okay?" He asked frantically.

"Well, not really"

"Is she dead?!?"

"Um...yeah" Virgil rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly.

"Oh gosh this is all my fault" Patton ran his fingers through his hair, tears trickling down his face.

"Patton, you can't blame yourself. You didn't mean for any of this to happen. If anyone's to blame, it's the Dragon Witch"

"Can I see her?" Patton asked. "Maddie I mean"

"The others are burying her behind the cottage but you should be able to" Grabbing Virgil's arm, Patton pulled him towards the back of the cottage, gasping as he looked down at Maddie's lifeless body lying on the ground next to a hole that had been dug for her. As soon as they heard the gasp, the three looked up to see Patton standing there.

"Patton! You're back!" Roman exclaimed as the three ran towards him to hug him. But Patton simply pushed past them and fell to his knees next to Maddie's body, tears flooding his face.

"Oh Maddie, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean for this to happen. I'm so sorry. You were too young to die" As these words spilled out his mouth, he held Maddie's lifeless body close to him. What he didn't notice was her eyes slowly fluttering open. As soon as she looked up at him, a soft smile was planted onto he lips.

"Patton" She smiled. "You're back"

"Maddie!" Patton looked down at her and squeezed her in a bone crushing hug. "You're alive!!!!"

"H-how?" The others asked, both amazed and confused. Maddie pulled away from Patton and turned to the other four, pulling them into a group hug, Patton quickly joining.

"You guys are okay!" She exclaimed.

"And you're alive!" Roman smiled.

"But how is that even possible?" Logan questioned.

"It was Patton" Maddie told them.

"Me? How?" Patton sent her a confused look.

"When you were dark, you had powers right?" Patton nodded. "I think your powers stuck with you, except now they're light powers that can be used for good instead of bad. And you are very powerful"

"I'm just glad we're all okay!" Virgil softly smiled.

"Me too!"

Time skip

It was getting late and after all that had just happened, everyone decided to set up camp for the night. Even though Jessie was still captured, they had come up with a plan to save her. They were yet to figure out what they would do afterwards though. Everyone had gathered twigs and sticks and logs and, using Patton's fire powers, they had created a small campfire to warm them all up. Since his cottage was too small, Deceit used his powers and Roman's ability to create objects in order to create a few tents for them to sleep in over night. As everyone sat around the campfire, Virgil gently nudged Patton's side. He had decided to finally do it. He was finally going to  confess his love to Patton. "Hey Pat"

"Yeah Virge" Patton smiled.

"Can I talk to you a sec, in private?"

"Of course kiddo!"

The two quietly slipped away from the group and hide behind Deceit's cottage.

"So what is it kiddo?" Patton asked.

"I..." Virgil inhaled a deep intake of breath to calm himself down before continuing. "I know I'm not good enough for you but...I think I like you. Like really like you. I think I might even love you. I know you probably don't love me back but-" Virgil was interrupted by a soft kiss being planted on his lips, which he returned without hesitation. A few minutes past and eventually the two were forced to pull away for oxygen.

"Oh Virgil, I love you too! So much!"

"Y-you do?" Virgil asked, shocked.

"Of course! Who wouldn't?"

"I always thought that I wasn't good enough for you"

"Oh Virgil" Patton sighed as he brushed Virgil's hair out of his face. "Of course you are! You're better than enough. And as soon as all of this is over, I want to spend the rest of my life with you" Soon enough, Patton's words transformed into a sweet melody.

"I don't need you to sell me on reasons to want you.
I don't need you to search for the proof that I should.
You don't have to convince me.
You don't have to be scared you're not enough cause what we've got going is good.
I don't need more reminders of all that's been broken.
I don't need you to fix what I'd rather forget.
Clear the slate and start over, try to quiet the noises in your head.
We can't compete with all that.
So what if it's us?

What do you say?"  Patton sung, looking up at Virgil hopefully.

"I never thought there'd be someone like you who would want me"  Virgil sang, wrapping his arms around Patton.

"Well?"  Patton giggled.

"So I give you ten thousand reasons to not let me go.
But if you really see me.
If you like me for me and nothing else, well, that's all that I've wanted for longer that you could possibly know.
So it can be us.
It can be us and only us.
And what came before won't count anymore or matter.
We can try that"

"It's not so impossible"  They both sung in unison, staring into each other's eyes.

"Nobody else but the two of us here"  Virgil sung.

"'Cause you're saying it's possible"  They sung in unison again.

"We can just watch the whole world disappear"  Patton sung.

"'Til you're the only one I still know how to see"  They both sweetly sung together.

"It's just you and me"  Virgil sung, smiling.

"It'll be us.
It'll be us and only us.
And what came before won't count anymore"  Patton added before they both sung together yet again, their hearts fluttering and their stomachs filled with butterflies.

"We can try that.
You and me.
That's all that we need it to be.
And the rest of the world falls away.

Smiling widely, after the two sung together, Virgil pulled Patton closer towards him as their lips met in a tender kiss.
