TW: Death
Once Patton had disappeared, all the sides immediately ran over to Maddie, Virgil cradling her in his arms.
"No Maddie, don't die. You can't die. Please don't die" He whispered through the tears falling down his cheek.
"Deceit, can't you do something?!? Like use your magic to heal her?!?" Roman asked frantically.
"I can't! My magic's not strong enough" He explained. "I wish I could. And if I could, truly I would"
"Can't you at least try?" Roman asked.
"I-I guess" Deceit held his arms out in front if him and closed his eyes.
"No. It's no use" Maddie coughed as Deceit reopened his eyes, giving up.
"Shhhh. Don't speak. You need to save your strength" Virgil hushed her.
"Virgil, please just listen to me" Maddie begged.
"O-okay"
"I know of a way to reverse the spell on Patton"
"Y-you do?" Virgil raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah. Something similar happened to me and Jessie a while ago. All it takes is a kiss of true love"
"Are you sure it will work?" Virgil questioned, completely sceptical.
"Yes. Positive. I tried to tell you earlier but it was too late. Patton threw that knife and disappeared before I could. Oh and Virgil, one more thing"
"What is it?"
"Please tell Jessie I love her" And with that, all life was drained from Maddie's body as her eyes were now lifeless.
"I will" Virgil whispered, his tears falling onto her body. Deceit placed a hand on his shoulder in an attempt to comfort him. "She...she's gone!" Virgil cried. "She was only young. She didn't deserve to die. That should have been me, not her"
"Look Virgil, she was a strong girl. She knew what she was doing. Don't let her death be in vain...please" Deceit rubbed circles in Virgil's back, attempting to sooth him.
"I won't. I know exactly what I need to do"
Meanwhile
Jessie just sat in her cage, bored yet worried. Worry wasn't usual for Jessie as she was usually the fun, adventurous, fearless one, contradicting to Maddie's more shy, worrying, caring nature. But Jessie couldn't stop the worries and fears rushing through her mind. She was worried about Patton and what the Dragon Witch had done to him. She was worried about the other sides and how they were getting on in their adventure without her to guide them. But most of all, she was worried about her one true love Maddie. Maddie never really went on many adventures of her own without Jessie there to guide her and protect her so she just hoped that Maddie was coping okay and wasn't too worried about her. She dread to think of something happening to Maddie whilst she wasn't there to protect her.
Suddenly, the Dragon Witch strolled into the room in her human form, grinning wickedly. Jessie immediately tensed up at the sight of her and grasped onto the bars of the cage. "Where the heck is Patton?!?" She yelled through gritted teeth. "What have you done to him?!?"
"Oh my dear child, there is no need for you to worry your little head. Patton is fine. Different, but fine" The Dragon Witch smirked.
"What do you mean different?"
Suddenly, a puff of dark smoke clouded Jessie's vision. As soon as it disappeared, the new, darker Patton appeared in front of her, causing a small gasp to escape from her mouth.
"This...this isn't Patton. What did you do to him?!?" She yelled.
"Oh I'm Patton alright, just a little more confident, or darker some may say" Patton chuckled.
"You monster!" Jessie sneered at the Dragon Witch, who simply cackled before turning to Patton.
"So my little pet, did you cause any chaos?" The Dragon Witch asked, holding Patton's chin in her hand but he immediately slapped it away.
"I'm not your "little pet"" Patton snarled. "And all I managed to do was give Roman a few burns. I tried to murder Virgil but that stupid little girl with them jumped in front of him so she died instead" Jessie immediately gasped. It was Maddie. Something did happen to her. Something terrible.
"Maddie. You murdered Maddie? I'm gonna murder you!" She yelled as the two simply chuckled
"Really? And how do you plan on doing that?" The Dragon Witch asked as she approached the cage. Feeling intimidated, Jessie just sunk down. "Exactly what I thought" She then turned to Patton. "Come on Patton. Let's discuss things somewhere else" And with the click of her finger, both Patton and her disappeared in a puff of dark smoke, leaving Jessie alone.
Jessie pulled her knees to her chest and buried her head in them, beginning to sob. Her strong, fearless act had crumbled now that she was alone. The love of her life was gone forever. She was alone with no one there to comfort her so she just closed her eyes and cried. And cried. And cried.
She felt a gentle arm being wrapped around her from behind as a soft, familiar voice whspered "There there, everything will be okay, I promise" The voice so comforting and so familiar to her. It couldn't be...could it?
Wiping her tears away and slowly opening her eyes, she turned around to see a familiar face with a warm smile on their lips. "Maddie?" The person nodded as Jessie ran towards her, wrapping her arms around her and burrying her head into Maddie's chest. "I thought you were dead"
"I am"
"Wait I don't understand" Jessie looked up at her confused as Maddie gently brushed her hair out of her face.
"I'm not really here, this is just a vision. Look around you. Is this where you were before?" Jessie's eyes quickly darted around at her surroundings. It was just white. Pure and white. Jessie shook her head.
"Why are you here?" Jessie asked.
"Because, I know you need me right now to reassure you that I'll be okay. You'll be okay. Everything will turn out okay. All this mess will be over soon"
"How do you know?"
"Because I have hope" Maddie softly smiled, rubbing her back soothingly. "And we will be together again soon"
"What are you talking about? How?" Jessie asked, even more confused than before.
"There's a place for us.
Somewhere a place for us.
Peace and quiet and open air wait for us,
Somewhere" Maddie sang softly.
"There's a time for us.
Some day a time for us.
Time together and time to spare.
Time to learn.
Time to care.
Someday" Jessie sang, gazing into Maddie's beautiful, hazel brown eyes, a small smile growing on her lips.
"Somewhere, we'll find a new way of living" Maddie sang.
"We'll find a way of forgiving, somewhere" Jessie added. The two held hands, gazing into each other's hope-filled eyes before singing together.
"There's a place for us.
A time and place for us.
Hold my hand and we're halfway there.
Hold my hand and I'll take you there.
Somehow,
Someday,
Somewhere"
After they sung, Maddie planted a soft, gentle kiss on Jessie's lips before slowly fading away into nothingness, but not before whispering "I love you" to Jessie.
"I love you too" Jessie whispered before falling to her knees as Maddie disappeared. Her eyes slowly opened as she found herself back in the cage, alone. She brought her knees to her chest again before crying herself to sleep.
