Chapter 12-Locked away (Birds- Ultimate Storytime)

"Gone! What do you mean they're gone?!?" Virgil asked, panic burning his eyes.

"The Dragon Witch's guards came storming in looking for us all. Logan, Maddie and I were all able to hide but Patton and Jessie weren't so lucky" Roman explained.

"Well we have to go and look for them!" Virgil tried to barge past but he was stopped by Roman.

"Virgil, I know Patton's your best friend but-"

"He's more than my best friend! I...you know what forget it. I'm going to look for him and you can't stop me!" He tried to barge past again but was stopped once more. "Move Princey! I have to find my friend!"

"Virgil, look I know you must be very upset, maybe even annoyed, but if you go running off now, we might loose you as well. That's what she wants. We have to go together otherwise we might never save them" Taking in a deep breath, Virgil managed to calm himself down. He knew that for once, Roman was right although he didn't want to admit it. "The other two have already hidden away in one of the classrooms to try and think things through. They sent me to come and get you. The guards have already gone, as well as the crowd. Stay close behind me" Groaning, Virgil followed Roman's instructions, the whole time worried about Patton, the love of his life. He hoped that he was ok because he couldn't bare to loose him.

Meanwhile

Darkness. That's all Patton could see. He must have been knocked out or something because he couldn't even see a small glimpse of light. That was until his eyes slowly opened and all he could see were metal bars in front of him and a beige, brick wall.

"Patton, is that you?" He heard a soft voice call his name from next to him. Curiously, he looked towards the source of the noise to see Jessie in a cage that seemed fit for an animal not a human, suspended from the ceiling.

"Jessie!" He smiled. It was kind of comforting knowing that he wasn't alone. "Are you okay?"

"Apart from being knocked out and thrown in a cage, I'm splendid" she replied sarcastically. "They didn't hurt you did they, the guards I mean?" She asked, concern lacing her voice.

"No I don't think so. What about you?"

"Nah I'm fine. I've had my fair sharing of being captured by guards so I know how to avoid getting hurt, although I usually manage to escape... But are you sure you're okay? I mean, the guards punched you pretty hard, you were out for way longer than I was. Besides, they weren't exactly gentle with you. Here, look in this" She took out a small pocket mirror from her pocket and threw it into his cage. He quickly picked it up and examined his face in it. He noticed a small, purple bruise covered up by his hair and bruises and scratches all over his arms.

"Just a few bruises and scratches here and there, that's all" he told her.

"As long as you're okay...do they hurt?"

Patton shook his head. "Not really"

Jessie let out a sigh of relief. "Phew. I was really wo-"

"SILENCE!" A voice yelled from the darkness, a menacing voice that sent shivers down their spines. They heard footsteps slowly approaching them as Patton cowered at the back of his cage whilst Jessie tried to make herself look as tall as she could. They both heard a chuckle before a cloaked figure came out of the darkness holding a whip in hand, hitting it against the other hand in a threatening fashion. "Well well well. Look what we have here. Wittle Jessie Parkinson. Not so tough now are we? And who's this with her. Well, if it isn't the one and only Patton Sanders. Wow, such a pleasure to meet you" The figure chuckled again. "Now, let's have a bit of fun, shall we?"

As the figure came even closer to them, a quick breeze of chilling air flew through the room as the flapping of wings was heard before another person joined the figure. However, they could actually see this person. She had dark, brown hair, blue eyes, pitch black wings sprouting from her back and two horns resting on her head. Patton gasped at the sudden realisation of who this was: the dragon witch. But instead of tormenting the two prisoners, she turned straight to the cloaked figure.

"Georgina, what did I say about torturing the prisoners?" The Dragon Witch scolded as the cloaked figure pulled down their hood to reveal none other than Georgina.

"But mum, I was just trying to have a bit of fun" she whined.

"Wait, the Dragon Witch is your mother?!?!?!?!?!?" Jessie asked in shock as Georgina slowly clapped her hands together.

"Wow. You figured it out. Want a medal or something?" she asked sarcastically. "Why else did you think I was so desperate to meet the sides? I was gonna report them to my mum. Who else do you think reported all of you?"

"You son of a-"

"Uh uh uh, language Jessica, language" Georgina smirked.

Growling, Jessie stayed quiet whilst Georgina continued to argue with her mother. Eventually, Georgina stropped off and the Dragon Witch turned to the two prisoners.

"My my, what do we have here?"

"Let us go...please" Patton pleaded, causing the Dragon Witch to cackle.

"Let you go? Fat chance. You're exactly where I want you. Now it's just a case of catching the others"

"Why do you want to capture us anyway when we're trying to save you?" Patton asked.

"Save me?" The Dragon Witch cackled. "Oh did you really believe that I was dying? Wow you sides really are stupid. No that was simply a trick to get you all here so I could finally get my revenge. Now make yourselves comfortable. You're going to be here a while" Without another word, she left, slamming the door behind her. Patton pulled his knees to his chest, a few tears trickling down his cheek. He was absolutely petrified and worried about what was going to happen to him and his friends. In an attempt to comfort himself and to calm himself down, he began to sing quietly to himself.

"I don't want to drive a fancy car today.
I don't wanna ride in a red corvette.
I don't wanna jog my Saturday away but I don't wanna go home yet.
Today is not the day to jump out of a plane.
I don't wanna parasail or play roulette.
I don't wanna risk it all or go insane but I don't wanna go home yet.
I just wanna watch the birds go by from my handy foldable blue canvas throne.
I wanna watch them fly and fly and see them soar up into the unknown.
But I feel just like a nerd watching birds,
Watching me here all alone"  He sung. Jessie heard him and his sweet voice brought a small smile to her lips.

"Wow that was beautiful Patton" She smiled.

"Th-thanks. I know it's kinda stupid but singing sometimes calms me down when I'm scared or worried and that's probably one of my favourite songs to sing. I guess I just relate to the lyrics and they lift my mood up whenever I'm upset. It's dumb I know but it really helps"

"No it's not dumb" she reassured him. "Mind if I join in?" She asked. "I mean it's such a beautiful song"

"If you want" He weakly smiled and the two began to sing together.

"I don't wanna breakdance or learn taekwondo.
I don't wanna fish till all the fish are gone.
I don't wanna roller skate even if it's slow.
I don't wanna pass out in a marathon.
I don't like soccer, baseball, track or field.
I'm not up for a match of polo.
I don't wanna seek or try to stay concealed.
I'm also not up for water polo.
I just wanna watch the birds up there.
Track the migratory patterns that they've flown.
I wanna watch them from my chair with my binoculars, my latte, and my phone,
Trying to spot a lark in the park, Parked in nature all alone.
Alone here with the doves and the sparrows, and the ospreys,
The owlets, the egrets, and my list
It's just me and Mr. Finch, the robins, the king fishers, the snipes,
Though I heard they don't exist.
Each little specie in its little way can teach me what awaits you if you can get away.
I wanna watch the birds do what they will,
Sorry if I'm ornithologically prone.
I wanna watch from somewhere undisturbing, quiet, calm, still.
Sit right here and gaze at the unknown.
I don't wanna fly in the sky.
I just wanna be alone.
It's not a big deal, or anything.
I just wanna be alone"
